I searched online for a fave breakfast spot on Dekalb Ave that I discovered during my search, no longer exists. Punta Cana shows up in the search now. I had a huge breakfast craving so I made my way there. I ordered a breakfast platter of grits and scrambled eggs, bacon, buttered toast. I also requested a cup of orange juice with ice. Overall my food wasn't bad. Grits were unremarkable. My bacon was just o-kay, eggs were perfectly scrambled. The toast is made with those jailhouse/school cafeteria slices. It's not a pleasant looking place at all- really dry, drab, blah. I'll probably never eat inside. There's plenty of other dishes available, Dominican standards. Roast pork, chicken, arroz con gandules. Breakfast is served until 1PM. They'll see me again. read more

I am so sad to even have to post this review because my partner and I have been long time customers of Punta Cana. Lately our orders have all had major issues like items completely missing, food not prepared properly or quality of food horrible. I just received a large order that included sour potato salad and a "burrito" that was mostly the tortilla wrap. The fries that came with our burgers looked old and my BLT arrived on stale bread with crumbled up bacon -no full strips. It looked like they ran out of bacon and crumbled up the last couple of pieces they had to make it look like a full sandwich. This is the last time we will spend money there. read more

I don't usually try places with 3 stars but every morning I pass this place on my bike route and the aroma is mesmerizing. I had to check it out. I went during lunch and it's pretty much a take out spot. I opted to eat in cause there were some tables. The Pernil with rice and beans were delicious. Pernil had a lemon flavor. Rice was not super soft but still quality and tasty. Beans had a nice seasoning on them. Even better was the homemade hot sauce. Staff was cool. I will be back! Uhm. Uhm. They don't know it, but punta and I have been together for a while. Like TIGHT. So, I used to only order breakfast. Because it's fast! Hot! Generous! And they have hash browns (most times, a bit over cooked, but still!). Breakfast sandwiches! Trust me. And then I discovered their chicken soup. It has probably saved my life! Or from cold viruses, idk. It's the best. Also, the Mexican entrees, apps and breakfast items are great. I'm guessing if you go into the place, it might be better, but DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY! 1. It took 1 hour and 37 minutes for my food to be delivered. The estimated delivery time on Seamless is 30-45 minutes. 2. I called after 1 hour. The woman told me I was wrong and that it usually takes 1 1/2 hours. She then said "sorry" and hung up the phone immediately after. Perhaps Punta Cana should update their Seamless information. 3. I ordered: Huevos con Chorizo - ehh. Decent, nothing special. Luke warm by the time it arrived. -Guac & Chips - Guac was fine. If you like having more onion and huge chunks of tomato than you do avocado, then this wannabe guacamole is for you. Chips were inedible. They were tough and moist, probably due to being inside a paper bag with hot food for 1 1/2 hours. My dog was confused about the chips when one of them fell to the floor and hesitantly ate it. -Fried Yellow Plantains - fine but lukewarm. I would not recommend for any one to take a chance on Punta Cana because of their poor service, falsely advertised estimated delivery time, and hardly warm, mediocre food. read more

I have NEVER had a more awful experience with delivery. I placed an order and two hours later called to see where it was. The guy on the phone lied repeatedly to me. When I called back one final time AFTER WAITING THREE HOURS, the guy told me he had cancelled my order after our previous phone conversation and that the food was in the trash. I asked for a manager, he said there was none. I asked when one would be in, he said he didn't know. I asked for his name, he covered the phone and said to his friend (in Spanish) "give me a name", and then told me his name was Elvis. Are you kidding me? I have ordered from this place now several times for lunch delivery. I don't get the bad reviews. The food is cheap and very good. It has never been delivered late an usual shows up about 10 minutes early. There are some things they don't do well (like never ever try and be healthy and order the vegetable side versus their plantains or beans and rice options, because all you'll get is some slimy cabbage) BUT that said, their entrees have always been hot, authentic and good. I also highly recommend ordering their iced coffees for delivery, they are like crack for your tastebuds. Items i've ordered that are particularly good: 1/2 roasted chicken ox-tail soup - only on mon, weds and fri their fried plantains are delicious, I always prefer them over the mashed green one's. Don't expect a freakin' 5 star meal, since for three people you can eat for under $25 and you'll end up a happy camper. read more

After 50 minutes of waiting, we called the restaurant and the man who answered - and who sounded like the manager - informed us that the delivery guy just left. And this is after almost ONE HOUR AFTER WE PLACED OUR ORDER. We asked how long it would take for the food to arrive and the guy said he only has two delivery guys and it'll take that guy TWENTY MINUTES to reach out. Like Kelly S., I don't get the bad reviews for this place at all. I'm a new resident to Brooklyn from the UWS and Punta Cana was the first place I discovered here and it has never done me wrong. The iced coffee is delicious - especially if Elvis is there behind the counter - and cheap! This is the ONLY place in the 'hood I get my iced coffee fix on - and it is 2-3X cheaper than Dough or the Brooklyn Kolache Co nearby. As a breakfast food fan, this has definitely become my go-to breakfast place in the hood. The Breakfast Combo #2 is an amazing deal with many delicious items and the breakfast sandwiches I could eat every day. Of course, if you're wanting a healthy salad or organic food this is not the place for you. The place is called Punta Cana after all. :-) And, what I like best about Punta Cana is that the people here are incredibly nice (and, I find it charming they call me and my friends 'Mami' and 'Papi' - hello it's a neighborhood joint - they're laid back here)! I placed my order online using Grubhub. I specifically said "nothing spicy, please and thank you." About 10 minutes later some very rude, old woman calls me, screaming into the phone saying "you said you wanted nothing spicy? But the burrito is spicy" I said "okay did you already start making it? Because I cannot eat spicy food." She said "no mami that is why I am calling you. All mexican food is spicy" first off do not call me "mami" and secondly, not all mexican food is spicy you uneducated bitch. So I said "K cancel my order." As soon as I said that she changes her tune all of a sudden saying "oh but we can make it without being spicy" OK so wtf why didn't you just do that from the jump? Are you literally that slow? I told her "so yes why don't you do that" obviously hungry and frustrated at this point by her stupidity. She then says, "but you don't have to scream mami" OK but weren't YOU screaming since the minute I got on the phone? I then just said to cancel that order and hung up. You should probably have someone a little more educated working there. There's no reason to call and tell me its spicy and whenI decide to cancel my order it magically became the way I wanted. From reading the other reviews, I know to never order delivery from here, but take out is great. For the price, the food is surprisingly good. There are a few places in the area that serve Dominican food and they are not half as good. I like the stewed chicken and the Italian sausages. I just want to begin by saying that I've always ordered from this place and never had an issue. Today I order something I usually always order and found a screw in my food!! That is disgusting! I called this place and notified them about what I found and was told that nothing can be done about it and I have to come in to the restaurant myself because they can't have someone pick this up! I recently ordered from here a turkey cheeseburger Deluxe. I got old fries look like they had been reheated. The roll was not toasted and there was no mayo or cheese on the cold turkey burger. I got a dry patty with bread and lettuce. After ordering through grub hub with them. I gave them the chance to correct it. They stated they would put in a refund for me I called grubhub no refund request was put in . I even ask could they just send me another burger with fresh fries. They said they do not know when it would get to me they are busy. So basically I paid them 14.85, but they did not want to do the right thing in bring me back the correct order . So I had to contact Grubhub. If you are using them especially through grubhub do not. If your order is messed up they wont fix it. They do not value grubhub customers. Once they get their money they do not care. Stop taking people hard earned money and take your time preparing food. read more
