We stopped through town from Mammoth, looking for a dog friendly location for brunch. Pupfish was perfect! We sat outside in the back by the parking lot where there were misters on due to the heat. We had the Mediterranean toast and the tuna melt along with a vanilla iced latte. The food was delicious and so was the latte! Perfect spot, the cafe is located in the back of the bookstore. This is a charming place behind the book store. The menu is interesting with some healthy, unique foods. Scoring on that would be a 5. The service I received from the owner is a zero. She was exceptionally rude. The gentleman taking my order was great - she was not. After hearing excellent reviews from friends I was left nothing but disappointed upon visiting PugFish this morning. One female staff member on the cashier was extremely cold, rude and unfriendly towards us. Having travelled a long distance in the early hours of the morning, she pushed for us to sit outside in the rain. When we asked if it was cold outside to sit in the rain she replied with a rude 'ok' and failed to answer the question asked. Our coffees were absolutely disgusting. Possibly the worst coffee ive ever drank. Extremely unsatisfied with the service & coffee. Food was middling. Will not be returning. To the nice guy who thanked us upon leaving, thank you for being kind to us, unlike the rest of the staff. read more

Egg and cheese panini with ham and red pepper sauce: I found everything about this panini to be perfect. I am always a little sad ordering sandwiches like this because either the meat is too dry, or they don't put enough of one item. However, this panini was proportioned PERFECTLY. every bite was better than the last lol. Smooth and warm in the inside with the amazing panini bread crisp on the outside. Tuna melt sandwich: I was worried about this one as well since a lot of places can have some dull tasting tuna, but not this place! The relish, celery and whatever else is it in tasted amazing. Pupfish is a super cute cafe in Bishop, located right behind the Spellbinder bookstore. The breakfast sandwiches hit the spot. We were in town for a day hike and the egg and cheese panini with avocado was the perfect meal to start my day. As with anything avocado, it was a little messy, but worth it. The coffee is great too - they make a solid cappuccino. The cafe itself is nicely decorated with cute pictures on the walls, and the staff is really friendly. My only note is that the entrance can be elusive, unless you go through the bookstore, or you know to check the back of the building. Regardless, this is a great stop for a sandwich or a decent cup of coffee in the Bishop area. read more

We just found this great little cafe in the back of the Spellbinders book store. it was perfection on every level, food delicious, quaint atmosphere and fast, friendly service. My husband had the eggs on avacado and I had the avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich on sourdough toast. it came with mixed greens with a gently sweet, vinegarette dressing. Their breakfast and lunch menu was more extensive than one would think walking into this special cafe. Disappointed with customer service, we were asked to sit outside despite the fact that it was raining... I then received a half filled coffee which had a taste resembling what I can only imagine dirt to taste like. Food was overpriced for the quality and quantity received leaving me disappointed overall with my experience here. Every time we stay in the area for trips, we always go here for breakfast! Their avocado toast is the best. It just tastes so good atop their sourdough bread and drizzle of olive oil. It is not a small meal and will leave you full! My son had it with the salmon, me with egg and my husband with egg and mushrooms. They are generous with the avocado and leave it chunky on your toast. On top of the food, service is always great! They are always so nice and friendly. I'm so happy they are still around after the pandemic! read more

My niece lives in Bishop, and I really owe her one for introducing me to this cafe over Easter weekend. I loved the avocado toast to which I added feta and kalamata olives; sourdough bread comes from the Great Basin Bakery, and I found its crunch and subtle taste blended well with the creamy, ripe avocados. I enjoyed it so much that I showed up the next day on my way out of town to order the liege waffle to go. Freakin' Friday, what a sweet delight! We were excited to try their waffles but were out at the moment. I decided to get their turkey panini and added avocado it, was delicious! My only criticism about this place is that their lunches are more like snacks. Very cute and tiny paninis but not enough to fill my boyfriends hungry stomach. I wouldn't know hot flat my panini would be without the inch of added avocado I put in. Also the salad was lacking dressing/flavor. I did appreciate the freshness though! read more

Prices is are fair, the food is tasty, and the staff is very nice. They delayed a drink order once and asked to provide a complimentary one of choice. I politely declined. We have a "usual" brunch order now: the panini sandwich + soup combo. For $8.95, you get a hot panini grilled cheese (extra $ for turkey/ham and avocado) and soup du hour (usually tomato bisque) We usually make a visit at least once during a climbing trip. What a hidden gem. We wanted to stop by Bishop for breakfast before heading home on President's Day from Mammoth. E-mailed the business to make sure they would be open. Got a response right away from Janette (owner). Love supporting "mom and pop" businesses. Food was excellent. We had 8 in our party and everyone loved what they ordered. My son is a picky eater and he thoroughly enjoyed his grilled cheese and tomato soup. We ordered two portobello paninis (one gluten free for my daughter). They were able to customize hers with ham too. They can make most of their sandwiches gluten free which is a big plus. We all enjoyed our specialty coffees. Well balanced and not too sweet. The bread was fresh, and the veggies were very crisp and flavorful (great tomatoes!). The dressing was also top notch. I had iced tea to drink, and it wasn't just Lipton's - you could actually get a very nice tea flavor, which is a nice change from most fast-food iced tea drinks. We're definitely heading back again. We stopped here for lunch during our drive home from Mammoth Lakes. I ordered the Egg, Cheese, and Avocado Panini and my boyfriend ordered the Mushroom Feta and Avocado Panini. They were soooo good!! The different spreads they have are great with the sandwiches. Well worth the $7-8 per sandwich in my opinion. And it's connected to a cute bookstore which is convenient for any book lover. The almond milk substitution turned out to be a wise choice, considering that it gave the mocha a satisfying hint of almond flavoring. Also, if you can, try their Liêge waffles. These waffles are richer and have a caramelized sugar coating that leaves your mouth tantalized. They're also far superior to the plain American waffles!
