Love this place! Didn't want to fill up too much on the typical breakfast items. Saw this on yelp and so glad I did. Had the Norwegian toast and some tea to begin with. Who knew you could get healthy, fresh, vegetarian/pescetarian friendly food in Bishop? Was driving through town en route back from Mammoth when we decided to take a pitstop for lunch. My BF is pescetarian and we were looking for a place that was vege/pesc friendly and we were lucky to stumble upon Pupfish Cafe! Located in the back of a quaint little bookstore, this place served up some huge fresh yummy salads which really hit the spot! We had the Spinach salad (+avocado) and the Paleo Breakfast salad (+avocado, +smoked salmon). Both were fantastic! The Spinach salad had walnuts, red onion, feta, hard boiled egg and balsamic dressing, and the Paleo breakfast had poached egg w/ pesto, and a light vinaigrette. Service is super friendly, and you can even pick up a copy of The NY Times or The New Yorker to read while you wait for your food :) read more

Our new favorite place to stop on our way to or from Mammoth. What a delightful, independently owned coffee shop and cafe. Walk through the fun and funky bookshop to the back where you will find a small but well thought out menu of healthy items for breakfast and lunch . Clean and paleo friendly items are offered and we could not resist splitting one of those delicious waffles. We stopped at Pupfish on our drive from LA to Mammoth after reading the reviews on Yelp. The food was excellent. My wife and I split a few different items so we could sample more of the menu. Like others, I highly recommend the open face avocado sandwich with calamati olives. Who knew those would go together, but they really do. Also enjoyed the waffles and a scone. Great coffee and cappuccinos! My only complaint...it is easy to drive past. The sign out in front is very small. Look for the bookstore and swing around back for best access to Pupfish. I really love this little place. It's situated at the back of a book shop (Spellbinder Books) which is exactly how all cafes should be. I got the "Mediterranean" avocado toast which is sourdough toast with avocado and kalamata olives and had it topped with two eggs. The description says "thick-cut toast" which it is not, but the bread is really delicious anyways and is from Great Basin Bakery about a half of a block away. The avocados were really fresh and the olives were a tasty compliment. The eggs were cooked just the way I like them despite being cooked in the microwave. That is, solid yokes but no crispy weird edges and a nice fluffy white. The wait is a little on the long side, but they seem to be a relatively new place and have about three people working behind the counter. Just go browse the books in the bookstore or look at the art on their walls to pass the time. No need to rush. It also looked like they take phone orders (though I can't be sure) as someone came in to pick up something. Friendly service plus fresh, tasty, and not greasy food is a total win. read more

Hands down best and most uniquely amazing waffles I have ever had in my entire life! Don't know how they do it but they are pure magic. Eat them plain or with toppings (I tried both). Also incredible coffee and delicious sandwiches. The sandwiches were perfect for the trail. Truly a gem. read more

Passing through Bishop and stayed overnight. Found this place for breakfast. Stupid good. The paleo breakfast with salmon was the perfect start to our hiking trip -- tasty mix of greens & healthy protein. Excellent coffee options to satisfy the real addict. Secret local spot filled with love, beautiful art work all exemplifying the multi-facets of one powerful woman, loving light filled vibes, and waffles that I never thought possible. My dear friend John who lived in Bishop took me to Pupfish. He told me to get the salmon and eggs with pesto, but I got the avocado toast instead and when his salmon came out, I was jealous. It looked so delicious. Pupfish is a hidden gem only a local or wonderer off the main street will find. It's just so good in every way. I hope to go back one day... And again, the waffles... I'm so happy to add my own 5 star rating to these already amazing reviews. 8 of us came in ~10 minutes before closing on our way home from Mammoth (on MLK day nonetheless) and the two women working were so pleasant and welcoming! They were so accommodating and we all enjoyed our meals. They were unfortunately out of waffles but I was just as content with a grilled cheese & tomato soup. We didn't feel rushed at all. Must stop for WAFFLES!!! We were driving home from mammoth this morning, saw this place on yelp and decided to try it out. It was a little tricky to find PS : it's on the backside of the building behind the bookstore. The ladies working were really nice! We of course had the waffles. I had the dessert waffle because I prefer the fruit and whipped cream addition. It was surgery and sweet and soft yet crisp on the outside. Such perfection! Waited for over 35 minutes for our food, which we ended up just not getting at all. We watched several parties that came in after us get their food first. Boyfriend went to check on our food and the girl said it would be "just another minute." Clearly she didn't really check on our food because we got up and asked again 5 minutes later to find out that they had completely missed our order. They did give us a refund and offered to make our food, but at this point after waiting for so long we didn't want to chance having to wait another 20 mins for a sandwich and a waffle. I understand that there's a lot of travelers coming through, but the place is not huge, and it just seemed a little disorganized. There was also no water out where the cups were placed out for the self-serve water. We're definitely not the complaining type, but this was kind of too much bad service to let it go without a review. read more

All I can say is YUM! We typically stop by Schatt's on the way to and from Mammoth but each time I find myself disappointed with the food and crowds.... Decided to try pupfish cafe this time and boy did it deliver. Got both the tuna salad sandwich and the egg salad with olive spread and they were both outstanding! I'm so happy to be back in the area and there's a new place to eat! This is a must try if you like fresh tasting food that is full of flavor. I had the portobello panini and holy shit it was amazing. I can't get over how delicious the sandwich was, the bread was the perfect amouny of crispy and the mushrooms...the mushrooms! I can't even describe the deliciousness. It came with a salad that had a really tasty dressing, very light with the right amount of flavor. The service was fantastic. I asked for no cheese and the person taking my order was so thoughtful and asked if i wanted cucumbers in it instead of the cheese.
