The owner/groomer is wonderfully talented. I have been using her for 20+ years and all my dogs have always looked fantastically groomed!

Avoid "Puppy Love" in Encinitas on ECR near the Sheriff's station. Very high priced, slow, with an arrogant woman in charge. They don't want to "work" on anything but a micro-size dog because it's not profitable to put in any time on a larger dog, especially not one with longer hair that needs combing out. i am very disappointed with Puppy Love. The first time I brought my 3-1/2 lb. Yorkie (less than a year old and adorable), I brought him close to Thanksgiving. The woman (Jodi) was warm and inviting and when I picked him up, I thought my dogs are forever getting groomed at Puppy Love! His 'haircut was adorable and I could tell she spent a lot of time grooming him and took pride in her work. I was very appreciative and I liked her alot. I also have a Morkie who resembles the white fluffy dog displayed on their site.He was next to see Jodie and once more, he looked perfect with a short adorable cut perfectly trimmed. The second visit was just before Christmas and I specifically asked for Jodie once more. I asked if they keep a record of how my dogs were trimmed and the answer was yes so I thought my dogs would look just as spectacular as the first time.... WRONG! My Yorkie didn't have that detailed 'puppy look' and I was very disappointed when I picked him up. At my Christmas party several of my friends commented he looked like he had a bad haircut day! And he had! I didn't like the way I was feeling! I felt ripped off and lied to. There was no way Jodie groomed my dogs! They didn't look anywhere near well trimmed as the first trim with Jody, They were very very busy and I thought maybe that was the reason for such a bad haircut! So the woman took my dog in the back and hands me my Yorkie with one side of his muzzle CHOPPED ROUGHLY AND UNEVENLY and the other side looked completely different The woman was exhausted because of Christmas and I was the last person to pick up a dog. I walked toward my car with the pups and stopped in my tracks and went back in and asked if she could do something with his cut. She did her best but for $130 for both my dogs, I felt ripped off and angry. It was obvious Jodie didn't cut their hair! My Morkie's cut wasn't nearly as great as my first visit either. My excite- ment over Puppy Love went from estatic to grim dissappointment I was mad! Why do people try to one over on you??? I called three days later and left the message I was unhappy with my Yorkie's cut. Next day a kurt, nasty woman told me they would fix it but it couldn't be fixed. It would have to grow out because of the choppy. I asked her if they take care of their undercoat and her nastiness turned from resentment to anger stating harshly 'of course we work on the undercoat! I was so startled by her attitude, I stammered back at her...'well it was Christas and everyone was very busy so I understood and left. The third and last time at PUPPY LOVE was February 3rd. I SPECIFIC- LY ASKED FOR JODIE ONCE MORE! Thinking they surely wouldn't have the gall to pull the wool over my eyes. The minute I walked in I could feel a wave of resentment hit me - it wasn't a good feeling! Jodie walked over but I could tell she wasn't the kind, understanding women I met the first time! I showed her a picture of a Yorkie with a very similar cut as she had done the first time. Well...same-o, same-o! Picked up my dogs and they looked awful. This time I didn't say anything thinking I might bring them one last time to see if they'd do right by me. I even gave the woman who was responsible for the awful cuts a 'tip for Jodie' and handed her $20 cash for the tip asking her to make sure Jodie re- ceives the $20! I knew damn well Jodie might or might not even know about the tip since she didn't work on my dogs.The 'played me and I was fuming as you can tell from the tone of this review.So $150 later, I had to pay another $100 (a lot less expensive) to another shop and they worked hard on my dogs. The long stringy white fur on the Yorkie almost hit the floor UNDER his sloppy anus; his top black coat was un-evenly 'shagged' and covered most of his beautiful carmel/silver haunches with the fur dragging on the floor! I have to think they all were annoyed with me because of the awful Christmas experience and they never got over it! Touchy, touchy ladies. I built a huge company and one thing I learned is the customer is always right no matter what. It's all about attitude and service, service and more service! Oh one last thing....When I arrived the third time after they chopped my Yorkies hair, I assumed there would be no charge as the snippy woman on the phone implied and guess what? They acted like I had some nerve asking for what that nasty woman that " they'd fix after his hair when it had grown long enough to fix because it was chopped so short.Why on earth would I return 3 or 4 days to have them chop off the already unbalanced cut. Some nerve of them to actually tell me I was suppose to bring him a few days after. After this fiasco, I will never ever go to PUPPY LOVE! And I certainly won't recommend them! All I can say is BUYER BEWARE and certainly ask reasonably to have something cut that obviously wasn't! Good luck! read more

I have am almost 6 month old yorkie pup that needed a trim badly. I passed by this place on El Camino Real and saw a sign and called. I am usually worried when I take my dogs in for a trim as they usually cut it too short and sometimes crooked. I called on Tuesday and got an appointment the next day at 9am. Unfortunately I couldn't make it right at 9 and changed it to 11 and they accommodated me. I came and showed a picture of how I wanted the hair done. I dropped my little pup off for his first ever trim. I got a call nearly 3 hours later saying he was done. When I came to pick him up, I was so happy. They cut his hair perfectly. They did everything I asked and my pup was looking oh so cute. They gave him the perfect puppy cut. They bathed him, brushed him and clipped his nails. He was looking super cute, clean and happy. They did charge me much more than I expected, as it was $59 total, and I was quoted $38. However, I let it pass because this was my pups first cut and they did an excellent job. After we lost our golden retriever Cody in 1998, who had been a regular customer of Puppy Love, I called, in 2018 to book an appointment in our old standby. The lady on the phone kind of rudely said they were not accepting new appointments. Given the lapse in our interest in grooming, I asked if she could please give us a referral. She told me that they had no referrals. My take ... pretty much the rudest treatment a business could give a former client. I owned a business for 30+ years and would never, never, ever have treated a customer that way. That's my story on this place. Hopefully the new management gets it together. read more

I've been taking my dog to Barbara for six + years. She is a genuine, honest professional and I highly recommend her. I also appreciate the fact that I always call last minute (because I forget to plan ahead) and Barbara takes care of everything. She use to show dogs so she knows what needs to be done, and she always gives me good advice about other matters. For example, when my first Bichon was nearing the end of her life, Barbara talked with me about all my options and gave me really good advice. Over the years we have used Puppy Love for our golden retriever who has since passed. We adopted a shelter dog and he has been groomed there several times with and now without our golden. Today I was told that we did not come regularly enough. I asked if It would help if I set a monthly appointment. They said no, he was nervous and didn't like to be groomed so they would no longer allow us there. Perhaps they should be "Perfect Puppy" Most certainly drop the love. Love is patient, love is kind. My husband and I are from Phoenix and summer in Carlsbad. We tried several places before finding Puppy Love. We had NOT been happy with anyplace and the worst was Pe-tCo in Oceanside. Our dogs come back all matted! Then we had someone recommend Puppy Love. OMG, the dogs were beautiful when we picked them up and were still beautiful a week later! Their products are amazing. The dogs smelled great and did not matt up again! I have a maltase/shihzu and a yorkie/bischon. Puppy Love is not inexpensive, so if your looking for "cheap" don't go there!! But if you want the BEST GROOMING meticulously done, a happy dog, and wonderful ladies that do an amazing job then I highly recommend Puppy Love. I love this place. I have ayorkiepoo and she is not an easy cut. Every other place I have taken her to butchers her and makes her look horrible. Ive been here like 10 times and not once have I ever been disapointed. I would recomend this place to anyone. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is expensive. I used to pay 30-40 for nails and a grooming at a place in Northpark and my old place in Clairmont. I pay 62 here. It kind of sucks to dock them a star for that because the rent in Encinitas versus Clairmont and Northpark are not even comparable. But I don't have a lot of money. I use to bring my Brussels Griffon to Puppy Love. The first time they cut his hair, he looked absolutely adorable but then again he was still a puppy. After that, it all went down hill. One time they gave him a schnauzer cut and then the other time, I have no clue what they did but they made my dog look like a HOT MESS. I also found this place to be over priced compared to other groomers. The owner is nice but such a disappointment on how they groomed my Brussels. The haircut excluding gratuity was around $65. Nail trims alone use to cost me $20 not including tip..... I discovered I can take my dog to get his nail trimmed for $8.00 with the clippers or $10 with the file..... I took my Standard Poodle here because I had seen dogs they did and the cuts were really nice. I had been taking him to Carlsbad and wanted someone closer When I picked him up they told me the price and I told her, "I only brought one dog" I was serious, I thought there was a mistake. She said that was the price and everyone charged that in Encinitas. OUCH! Not my experience. When I sucked it up and called to make another appointment. She would not schedule me. My dog gets groomed every 8 weeks and I was told they wouldn't see take a dog that wasn't groomed more frequently. I think a note about my sticker shock was more likely. I have been taking my Maltese to Puppy Love for the past 8 years. The whole team is amazing. I have had some horrible experiences with other groomers years ago therefore I don't trust anyone else but Puppy love. First off, I brought my little maltese, Sophie, in for a bath only. To my surprise, when I picked her up, she had also been groomed at a cost of $63!!! Imagine my surprise. This was our first experience at this groomer and will be our last. Regulary, a bath runs about $25, $40 if she is groomed. Her hair was already short and I told them that they could cut any long or straggly hairs. I am completely dissatisfied and will continue to take her to Pet Cuts.... read more

Most AMAZING pet grooming in North County! My entire family has been bringing our dogs to Puppy Love for 20 years now. The owner treats us like family and she and her staff treat our dogs like their own. They are professional and their work is superb! They truly go above and beyond; when my mother was no longer able to drive, they would actually go to her home to pick up her pups for grooming. Absolutely terrible!!! The owner is a horrible shrew of a woman who lies and over charges for the terrible work they do or lie about and never actually do. Our dogs were traumatized by her. I don't know what happened exactly but she clearly mistreated by her, kept them caged up all day neglected and in their own feces only to be given a quick rinse when we paid for full deluxe grooming. I kind of feel like they've been grooming for so long that they are just going thru the motions...it's a job, it's a living so to speak. They have customers that have been going there for years which is great...that's their bread and butter. I started coming here about 6 months ago based off a friends recommendation. I'm very happy with the service here. While I was taking my furbabies to another groomers across town, I was always feeling like the service was not very personalized. In other words, I thought every dog kind of got the same cut. Here at Puppy Love, every dog gets a "custom" cut. Barbara and her staff always, always pull out my profile card and check notes from their last cut. She then asks me if there's anything I'd like to change or do differently. Sometimes I like to mix things up a little depending on the season. Leave their hair longer in winter or shorter in summer. I appreciate that Barbara and her staff always ask me questions and listen for my answers. Here at Puppy Love each dog gets individual attention/treatment. Also I have never been turned away for an appt. even when I call the day of. They are so accomodating! I love that! Much more personal than where I was going before!
