My 15 yr old, Buster!
Lisa S.

No complaints other than I wish they had walk-in vaccine clinics which tend to be a lot more affordable from previous veterinarian offices I've been to before I moved here to Modesto. They took my dog in the day after called for a rabies shot that was due. The office is clean and well kept, the staff and doctor were very nice. The price was OK. I was thankful that they didn't make me do a whole well check visit just for one vaccine. I hesitated getting the vaccine at all since my dog is 15 years old but he's in good condition and still sees a groomer so they need to have that shot on file. :( My dog didn't seem stressed out after the shot, and he was perfectly normal!

I had been looking for a new vet after my long term vet (Salida Vet) retired at the start of COVID. It was so difficult to get in anywhere. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Higgins and all of the staff. I originally just brought in my cat who stopped eating and have since brought four other pets there too. The office has been consistently kind and attentive to my needs and questions. They referred me out to Monte Vista Vet when my cat needed an ultrasound that was not offered in house and the collaboration between the two offices was seamless. They have helped me with a full spectrum of needs, from basic needs such as vaccination updates, to complicated issues such as a cancer diagnosis. I could go on and on. Dr. Higgins is exudes kindness and compassion while at the same time being honest and informative. This is my vet and I recommend them to everyone any chance I get.

Today was our first visit to Modeato Family Pet, and I am beyond thankful for their service! My 2.5 yr old Husky/Shepherd mix has been suffering from some skin allergies, and we had exhausted all of the OTC remedies, so we decided it was time to take her in to be seen by a professional. The office staff were extremely kind and helpful, and everyone was very understanding of my pups anxiety, which put me at ease as well. The technician and Dr. Were extremely thorough and didn't try to sell me the farm when it came to treatment options. A great experience all around! I would highly recommend Modesto Family Pet!!

I take my pug puppy here. They have been great. Very nice and friendly. Prices are reasonable. So far so good.

The single most positive and amazing experience that I have ever had at the vet. This is my second visit. The doctor is extremely patient, extremely helpful and the staff as a whole are awesome to deal with. You can tell that they really really care about your pet. My dog is difficult to deal with and they didn't give up on him. I am thankful that I came here instead of the other places in Modesto. If you are looking for a vet, I wouldn't consider any other place. I was very nervous about bringing my dog in and they really made it easy.

We absolutely love Dr Gurman Josan ! And most of the staff ! I only say most because we haven't meet everyone yet ! 2 weeks after we acquired our Belgian Malinios he broke his toe ! We visited very often and they literally went above and beyond for us ! He loves going there ! And when we had to take our older dog there they formed and understood his needs. He's a very nervous dog and reacts to his nervousness with a not so friendly smile, then being aware of this they take their time with greeting him and allow us to visit (we call first of coarse) to help him get the socialization he needs and the visit to the vet without the stress of having to stay or for shots ! As we add to our clan or help get dogs off the streets Modesto Family pet is our very first thought. With a warm getting for the receptionist Suzanne (sorry if I spell it wrong ) we always know our pups are in the best care !

Great staff, easy to get appointments, decent pricing. Reminds me of the old fashioned vet offices - not a big corporation!

They really care about your pet and recognize that they are family to us.... Without using this to gouge you with unnecessarily huge billing

I see quite a bit of negative reviews here, but I had a very different experience. I took my dog in…read morebecause she was obviously in pain, but I didn't know what the cause was. Ultrasound showed she had liver tumors and was heavily bleeding into her abdomen. She had to be put down. All the staff members were very kind to me. The vet (unfortunately did not get her name) was super professional, straight forward, and as nice as possible about everything. She has a very difficult job. Nobody wants to put an animal down!! This was at 5am and it's an emergency medicine vet. Of course they charged more than a regular vet. However, they partially refunded what they initially charged me when they realized she had to be put down and no longer needed further workup/treatment. The bill went from $850 to $640. They could have just stuck with the initial charge and said they did x, y, and z to justify it but they did not. I didn't even ask and I was in no position to know any better. So if anyone reads these reviews, know that there are honest people working there. Maybe there's some bad apples I don't know, but this was my experience.

I'm not sure what has happened to this place recently, but the service has really gone downhill. We…read morebrought our dog in for a quality-of-life situation and understood there might be a wait since it's an emergency vet. However, once we were placed in a room, we waited for an hour and a half and no technician or veterinarian came in to check on us. No one provided any updates or explained what was going on. We ultimately decided to leave and go somewhere else. This was not how we wanted our little dog's final moments to be handled. It felt like there was very little communication or urgency. It was a very disappointing and upsetting experience during an already difficult time.

Even sweeter, they sent a card with the paw prints. Class act. So sweet, they all signed it.read more

Actually the worst vet. We've been going here for years and before they were all about money, they…read moreactually seemed to care. We took our cat here and did a bunch of tests and he was ok but had some sneezes. Took him in for a follow up bloodwork a few months later and his ALT liver enzyme was over 600. We saw doctor Pam who recommended shots and a CT scan as "top line treatment" because immediately they thought it was a congenial issue. Spent money on the Ct scan and it was negative but his liver enzymes were still going up. NOT ONCE did they start any treatment but they sure did run more tests. All negative and NOT ONCE did doctor Pam recommend any type of plan other than a $5000 invasive biopsy on our 1 year old cat. The enzymes went up over 1000 and I went online and found out info about steroids on my own since nothing was being done and asked Doctor Pam, who insisted we HAVE to do a biopsy and she had the nerve to say steroids might inflame his liver and it would be too much to give him steroids...but a full liver biopsy is fine? Ok. We got a second opinion and this new vet who actually cares about animals over money started him on an empirical treatment immediately and now his liver enzymes are back to normal a month and a half later...with a steroid called Prednisolone that bypasses the liver anyway. I feel so frustrated. For one, I'm mad she didn't even try to start him on anything, no treatment plan at all cuz they knew we loved this baby and would pay to help him. They messed with our vulnerability. For two, we paid a ton of money thinking we were trusting someone who actually cared, and for three and maybe the most aggravating and upsetting part, we put our little cat through so much and so many treatments because THIS VET told us it was needed it...and almost put him through a biopsy for no reason. Shame on you and the whole practice for valuing money over animals. Go to a vet who actually cares. Doctor Pam and this horrible place only care about your money and not your babies. Never again. The only thing they did do was help us with insurance because God knows they want their money. Unbelievable. Go to Village Oak or Waterford Vet or Animal Medical instead of this money hungry practice. We are lucky we actually still even have our little baby after this.
