I moved to Modesto and needed a vet for my dog. I had one in Tracy previous but preferred one closer to home. I read reviews on so many places for weeks trying to find the right place. I heard good things about a bigger one in the area, but I prefer the smaller offices. Since this is a mile from my house, I went here. So glad I did. Dr. Higgins was friendly and really liked it. No complaints other than I wish they had walk-in vaccine clinics which tend to be a lot more affordable from previous veterinarian offices I've been to before I moved here to Modesto. They took my dog in the day after called for a rabies shot that was due. The office is clean and well kept, the staff and doctor were very nice. The price was OK. I was thankful that they didn't make me do a whole well check visit just for one vaccine. I hesitated getting the vaccine at all since my dog is 15 years old but he's in good condition and still sees a groomer so they need to have that shot on file. :( My dog didn't seem stressed out after the shot, and he was perfectly normal! read more

I had been looking for a new vet after my long term vet (Salida Vet) retired at the start of COVID. It was so difficult to get in anywhere. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Higgins and all of the staff. I originally just brought in my cat who stopped eating and have since brought four other pets there too. The office has been consistently kind and attentive to my needs and questions. They referred me out to Monte Vista Vet when my cat needed an ultrasound that was not offered in house and the collaboration between the two offices was seamless. They have helped me with a full spectrum of needs, from basic needs such as vaccination updates, to complicated issues such as a cancer diagnosis. I could go on and on. Dr. Higgins is exudes kindness and compassion while at the same time being honest and informative. This is my vet and I recommend them to everyone any chance I get. read more

I recommend this vet. The base price for a vet visit is fair and that is what attracted me Here. I made an appointment for my dog and was able to be seen really quickly- within a short time frame. The staff was friendly and kind. The only reason there isn't a 5 star review is I feel that sometimes things can be left off to save money but vets always try and push to sell the most medicine and things they can. I get it they want to make sure your pet is happy- but I am not able to spend $500 in one visit. I think they did a great job with my dog and I will Definitely be back. read more

Today was our first visit to Modeato Family Pet, and I am beyond thankful for their service! My 2.5 yr old Husky/Shepherd mix has been suffering from some skin allergies, and we had exhausted all of the OTC remedies, so we decided it was time to take her in to be seen by a professional. The office staff were extremely kind and helpful, and everyone was very understanding of my pups anxiety, which put me at ease as well. Highly unethical!!! They gave me an estimate with a range. They made sure to charge me at the top of the range even though all services weren't performed by adding something I didn't authorize and wasn't on the original estimate. I only know this because I asked for an itemized receipt, which they didnt offer when I paid, and compared it to what they told me and I signed. Make sure you get a copy of the estimate or take a picture of it so you can compare it to the charges when you leave. Or better yet, find an ethical vet! They must be under corporate management and told to do anything they can to swindle people. read more

After being referred here when my vet called in sick.... I was a bit concerned but needed a vet check TODAY. Time crunch. I learned: 1. As a breeder, make sure that wherever you go to pick up your vaccines, for your puppies, that it is properly stored and refrigerated at proper temperatures. I will make sure when people buy puppies from me, To let them know that the vaccine has been properly stored and administered. 2. When giving the puppy a dewormer I will make sure that the dewormer is properly refrigerated and not expired and I will make sure my buyer knows that it is properly stored and not expired. 3. Dog food and brands I will make sure to point out the reasons I choose the brands that I do to my puppy buyers and point out why certain brands are not good such as royal canine is not good it has corn filler which causes terrible allergies that can resemble arthritis. It can cause swollen ears and swollen paws. And when buyers look at my beautiful dogs and their condition I will show them which dog food I choose which is Kirkland salmon adult dog food. None of my dogs have ever had allergies on that dog food and I will continue to use it because of my experience not because I want to make any money off of any allergy of any kind that can be picked up like those picked up from Royal canine, science diet and Purina (caused my dogs fur to dry out and shed). 4. If your dog is showing signs of skin allergies make sure you do not give the puppy steroids. it causes terrible behavioral issues irregular growth pattern such as small heads and big bodies on French bulldogs which makes them look odd. instead the puppy needs to be referred to a dermatologist. The dermatologist can then give the puppy the appropriate dose and type of antibiotic. 5. Bravecto is great if your dog is experiencing skin mites (mange)which makes the skin look rough like an elephant possibly even get blisters. However if your dog does not have any kind of bugs do not treat it with anything. bravecto causes seizures. The seizures could come immediately or the seizures can come later in life. ( RIP Conner, Henry, Dinky, miss Piggy...) You know the old saying? "If it ain't broke don't fix it." 6. Heartworms and heartworm medication research that before you get heartworm medication. Heartworm medication causes all kinds of problems in dogs$$$$. It is very rare around here now if you're in Mississippi swamps you might want to think about it. 7. Bordetella, always make sure you get the shot and not the nasal if you have a brachiocephalic pet. You don't want liquids going into the lungs of your animal, now do you? there's been reported incidences where the Bordetella caused pneumonia. (that requires two shots.) 8. When you do a puppy check make sure you remind the vet to look and check the puppies palette check the puppies heart, Check the puppies back leg joints, check the puppy for a hernia, check the ears for mites, eyes and nose for discharge, look through the fur and skin for flea dirt, .... Etc this vet really taught me a lot thank you! enjoyed the visit. read more

We first started going to this veterinary office when Dr. Kwayne Stewart came to town. He was great and I was so disappointed when he moved back to Southern California. But then the new vets came- doctors Higgins and Josan, and they are great, too!! My pets get the best of care here, I feel their furry lives are truly valued and that it's not all about operating a business for a take home salary. And it is not just the vets who are great, but the entire staff! The ladies at the front desk are always so helpful and friendly and Sam, the gentleman who answers the phones, even sent me a bunch of pet education literature. We love this office! The only thing I would change if I could, is to encourage the staff to participate in lower cost spay and neuter to help address pet overpopulation in our community. Here it is 2 years later and my bulldogs legs are in perfect condition (contrary to what Dr Higgins said) glad I didn't go ahead and subject my dog to two knee surgeries and pain n suffering that goes along with it ! This vet needs to go back to school she is an embarrassment to the veterinary community and she is a liar! Exaggerating pets injuries to get the customer to pay for surgeries and extended treatment all in the name of GREED !!! $$$$$$ hungry!!! First I want to say that the office staff and the vet tech were very kind and I appreciated them. I brought in this stray that my family and I have been feeding for the last few months because he gets into a lot of fights, and this last one his eye was damaged. I called on Monday, they couldn't get him in until Friday. It was really looking bad on Monday, but by the time we brought him in, the eye itself had healed quite a bit, but there was still a lump on the side of his face. We thought perhaps there could be an infection. Our appointment was at 2:15, they checked us in right away, and within a few minutes we were in an exam room. The vet tech was very friendly and asked questions, took notes, took the cat's temperature, and looked at his eye and a small scab he had under his ear. Then, we waited. And waited. Finally after about 35 minutes, the vet came in. She was friendly enough, but never looked at or touched our cat. She just started talking about how he was going to need surgery, anesthesia, an antibiotic injection, an anti-inflammatory injection, a cone, ointment, etc etc. She started writing down a list and even stopped to think a few times about what else she could add to it! She really pushed about the surgery, saying it was probably an abscess and we could "try" antibiotics, but more than likely antibiotics alone wouldn't work and we'd need to cut his face open and drain the fluid. When I got the estimate for the treatment plan, it was, as I knew it would be, astronomical. Almost 600.00. The exam fee alone was 55.00. I told the vet tech that this was was essentially a stray cat and I couldn't afford to spend that much money. She was very nice and asked me what we could spend. I said about one hundred dollars. So, we were charged for the exam, the oral antibiotics (which were 60.00 less than the injection the vet was pushing), and an ointment for his eye. 103.00. It is only day two, he's had three doses of oral antibiotics, and the swelling on his face is virtually gone. I am so disappointed because this office is very close to our home, but this felt like we were being pressured to spend more money, not to mention lied to about what was actually necessary. We won't be going back to this veterinary clinic. read more

We absolutely love Dr Gurman Josan ! And most of the staff ! I only say most because we haven't meet everyone yet ! 2 weeks after we acquired our Belgian Malinios he broke his toe ! We visited very often and they literally went above and beyond for us ! He loves going there ! And when we had to take our older dog there they formed and understood his needs. He's a very nervous dog and reacts to his nervousness with a not so friendly smile, then being aware of this they take their time with greeting him and allow us to visit (we call first of coarse) to help him get the socialization he needs and the visit to the vet without the stress of having to stay or for shots ! As we add to our clan or help get dogs off the streets Modesto Family pet is our very first thought. With a warm getting for the receptionist Suzanne (sorry if I spell it wrong ) we always know our pups are in the best care ! read more

Such a terrible service. I have an English bulldog who developed cherry eye. I called and let them know and they set me an appointment only to turn me away because they don't do procedures. I felt off when I first entered this place but gave it a shot. Felt like they needed my money more than they wanted to help my pet. Second the Dr assistant proceeds to tell me all the shots she has from her breeder are no good. And I need to start all her shots over and no one would accept them. That's was a lie. I would like to begin my review by stating that the staff and Vet that I dealt with were extremely kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. My 5 year old husky went in to have a foxtail removed from her ear. It was embedded in her eardrum and she was in a lot of pain. They did a great job removing it and treating my pup kindly. My only issue is that she was prescribed an antibiotic antifugal ear medication that they could not provide to me as it is on back order. I was told that my dog needed this medication for her ear infection and that I should look up sights like Chewy or Petsmart etc to get her the meds she needs. I do have a prescription note from the Vet but I can't get the meds he ordered for her on any website for at least 3 days. All in all my dog was treated very well and I will be back for any of her needs. I would highly recommend this office. read more

They are very good with pets but as far as follow up care after a procedure that did nothing for my pet but cause her more pain With no results from it. When I tried to get her back in for asap recheck as it is not healing they had no urgent appointments stating they are only for general care?... Why did they do procedure then!! With appointments A week away if I wanted to bring her in and it was going to cost me another x amount to be seen..when its for same reason as last visit. Not happy with their care at all.. I called to make a appointment for my dog. I told them his gums were bleeding. They got me in that day around noon. They we're running late so I had to wait. That doesn't bother me! What does bother me is the procedure that they had to do to my dog they couldn't do for a couple of months. They we're booked !My dog mouth is bleeding and I had to make another appointment with another vet. Of course, they charge me for the office visit. Basically, it was a waste of my time and money. We called to get our mastiff in as a new patient and they got him in the very next day! Within a week he was having his surgery he needed. When the vet walked into the exam room there was an instant calmness about him. He has a very calm aura and an amazing vet! The staff are all so very sweet and very competent. He has seen both of my dogs and they just absolutely love him. That is saying a lot because my mastiff doesn't usually like new people! MFP is excellent. Doctors and staff are professional, friendly, and loving with animals. Front office person is patient and always polite, in spite of being very busy. This is an older office that is immaculate and well run. I found MFP when I was told by one of the better known vets that a tiny kitten I'd found would have to wait three weeks to be seen. I'm really conflicted about writing this review. I got a one yr. old labrador last week and wanted a vet check up immediately. I also told the receptionist at the time I wanted to make arrangements to have my dog spayed. Plus I got right in, the vet and tech were great. As my dog is adjusting to my home I was hoping that the vet we saw and the location we were at would be the place the dog was spayed. We agreed i should wait maybe a month while the dog adjusts. I checked out, paid and then the receptionist informed me that my 52 pound dog is too large for them to preform the operation and that I would need a speciality referral. Oops! I'm going to find a full service veterinarian who can attend to my dogs needs unless something rare pops up. So great compassionate vet care, but a heads up and asking about the breed and size of my pet would have been better! read more

I took my dog here (Boxer 2yo) because he was coughing a lot and I could get a same day appointment at my regular vet. The Tech asked me usual questions about his health and food. As soon as Dr. Higgins came in the room she said the food I was feeding my dog is killing him. Kirkland grain free yellow bag from Costco. She said that it's more than likely giving him heart disease and a murmur. She went in for what seemed like forever about heart disease and murmurs and he would need to see a cardiologist and do X-rays. When she finally examined him the first thing she did was check his heartbeat. She said yep he has a murmur and definitely heart disease. She said his murmur was a grade 3. She said his throat felt a little swollen so could be kennel cough and maybe finding the murmur was a surprise finding. She said she would treat him for kennel cough with antibiotics and something to help with the coughing. She said we would need to get X-rays but I said I would be able to afford it. She left the room and the tech came back and gave me the estimate for the day and an estimate if I wanted to do the X-rays (1100 dollars). I just got the medicine. It was $153 for the day. After one week my dog now coughing up mucus a brown-green color. I called back and they said Dr. Higgins wanted to see him again. I called my regular vet and they were able to accommodate sooner. When my regular vet examined him they said he has no sing of a heart murmur or heart disease. They said he has some kind of respiratory infection possibly covid. They prescribed stronger antibiotic. And hopefully it will subside in a week or so. I felt that Modesto Family Pet was taking advantage of me. I know boxers are prone to all sorts of illnesses, but she had made up her mind before even examining g him. read more
