I only had the hedgehogs which are apparently one of their signature products. I just found it so dense and sugary and silky. It's a good chocolate and good quality it's just not the type of chocolate I like and can eat a lot of without getting a bit overwhelmed by the chocolate taste. The store is small and only allowed 4 people at a time. It wasn't busy at all when I visited and I was served promptly but I did wonder why there was only one employee to deal with everything. I love this small and bright store. And yes, ice cream too. As my friend is coming to Canada for business trip, I wanted to buy something. But from my experience, Japanese summer is brutal for assortment of Purdys chocolate. So I'm glad to find Ice wine truffles (in case) so that she can enjoy in the hotel room here. read more

The seasonal frozen bananas are to die for! I crave them on a daily basis no joke. However I find the quality of the customer service not as consistent. I usually like my bananas double coated in the chocolate syrup making it 200% cover in the chocolate, but sometimes I get bananas with little holes without the chocolate. I don't know how that happens with double dippings. Kinda disappointing But when they do it right, it is absolutely amazing and I would rather eat 8 of those than having a cinnamon bun, and I love cinnamon buns read more

Very nice staff. Although I tried the ultimate ice cream bar, I didn't think it was exceptionally delicious, but it wasn't bad either. They dip a vanilla bar in either chocolate or white chocolate and then roll it in nuts. The Mayan butter toffee crunch was decent, but a bit too sweet for me. 3 stars for the ultimate bar, 4 for staff. read more

This place knows all about Christmas. It's so easy to walk into Purdy's and find easy-to-select gifts that you know the person's going to love. It's delicious chocolate -- how can you go wrong? The other thing I love about Purdy's is that they always have chocolate covered ginger, in dark and milk chocolate. Still my fave. chain to buy chocolates in Vancouver and it's been a Vancouver staple since 1907. It might not be the most decadent compared to so many, but you really can't go wrong with anything here. Sadly, the staff here are "bitter" older ladies of Sogra who should learn to mellow out like one of their yummy marshmallow eggs; hence the measly three star rating. The chocolates themselves are closer to a five star, especially anything with milk, nuts of any kind or caramel. I put this on my Van list as this is where I go when bringing authentic chocolates to sentimental Vancouverites living in the US; it's also where I go to bring any chocolates over the country. So move over-you-know-who-you-are shops! My fave remains the chocolate pb anything. The mint melties are so good, and so is everything but the fruit creams, (blah) mind you. Right now with Easter approaching, of course there are the "cream eggs" and mini eggs, too. And what about the mac nut chocolates? Almost as good as Hawaiian Host, but not quite. The lady promised me that they wouldn't run out of mini chocolate eggs, either, which is always a grave concern this time of year. Unfortunately, it only gets three stars, as whenever I make a purchase, the women working here are never too friendly, and are reluctant to give you a sample of anything. Umm, I don't exactly look like a homeless person begging for candy. In fact, I am a responsible, chocolate buying, chocolate loving, citizen. It doesn't make me want to rush to return, and given the nature of the products, that's probably a good thing. :) read more

It's kind of crazy but i have been coming to Purdy's for my chocolate fix forever. I know there are better places out there but like there big billboard adds say.. "Everyone has a favourite" . Right now it's the Caramel covered in milk chocolate and dusted with Himalayan sea salt. It used to be peppermint paddy, or their peanut butter squares. I also enjoy their ice cream bars covered in nuts. So good. Service is always excellent. read more

What does one say about Purdy's Chocolates. Scrumptious... As I work in the area I come here when I want to pick up a little fix or a small gift for someone or just end up wandering in as I am walking by. None the less the chocolate is always good and is always consumed pretty quick. Besides for the great chocolate the staff is also quite friendly and willing to help. Vanilla milk chocolate carmels are amazing. The sea salt carmels and dark chocolate one are also pretty good. If you buy a bag of mixed caramels it is cheaper than buying the caramels behind the counter (cost by weight). You will get some other flavors mixed in the bag - cherry, almond. Good chocolates . Local to Vancouver. Himalayan pink salt chocolates are nice for a salt chocolate. The chili chocolates are also nice for a spicy. I would say Purdy's is better than Godiva. They defiantly have a more interesting selection of flavors. read more

seriously whats not to like about sweets and chocolates. Best chocolate bar is mint chocate bar adn best ice cream is dipped in chocolate and covered with nuts. Also the hedgehogs are amazing too. Tried 12 different types of chocolates from the collection they offer. Their chocolates are very disappointing. Their marzipan had a taste of artificial flavor. Chocolates were over sweet and if you keep it in refrigerator, you're going to have hard time biting it. read more

This Purdy's is a bit out of my way for me, however, when I'm in the area I'm satisfied even though this is a small store. They carry my favorite sugar free dark chocolate mint bars which are a guilt free treat for me when I need that chocolate hit. read more

I think this is the right location but Jazz is just awesome! I've been to Purdy's in Toronto to pick up treats for friends (they love the Hedgehogs and the Sweet Georgia Browns) but I've never sampled their solo chocolates in the display cases. Jazz helped with some selections that I was totally happy with (the himalayan caramel, and a vanilla caramel, mini pecan caramel). I just wished I bought more! I was waiting outside with our dog while my 11 year old went in to get a ice cream. There were two ladies working behind the counter. One was handing out samples to a couple (the only other people in the store). The other was boxing chocolates. Both ignored my daughter. She was not offered a sample and it took forever to get served. By the time we got to Chapters on Broadway, she found a hair imbedded in the very thin layer of chocolate. She wanted to throw up. yeah whatever to all you food snobs... it's not 91% dark with virgin cocoa butter, sweetened with raw golden sugar from the sugarcane grown in the balmy south pasific air, but hey who cares? It does the job. Maybe I'm a bit partial to the stuff since I associate it with the annual easter factory tour from my childhood or the or the search for the coconut cluster in the mix boxed leaving lots of half eatens for my sis... ah the memories if you like mint you can't do too bad with the mint melties - dark chocolate. tiger butter which I recently found out is white chocolate and peanut butter, the same stuff that in the peanut butter daisy. I'm secure enought in my manhood to say I eat the daisy. Coconut cluster are more nostalgic than good these days. The ones at Chocolate Arts on 4th are better, but I haven't been there in a while. Jen loves the ice cream dipped in dark chocolate with nuts. I never leave without and arm full of nutty mac white , sweet geogia browns (like a turtle on crack) and toffee. read more
