We just returned from our 1st trip ever to Hawaii and Pure Aloha and, more specifically, Guide Ava is why we will be returning. We booked a snorkeling excursion through Groupon and I can tell you that this was, by far, our best excursion while there. There were only 3 of us in our group--me, my wife, and my son, and it was much more enjoyable than those bigger groups. Incredible experience! Our instructor, Alia, picked us up from the neighborhood before Hanauma Bay since the parking lot was fully packed. We got off to a slow start but she more than made up for it and our time didn't start until we were in the water. Things were explained well and in a friendly manner. Our gear was ready and organized. I was with my parents who were nervous about snorkeling for the first time as were the other 2 people in our group but Alia was very patient and made them feel comfortable. I did my own thing while she helped them. It was a wonderful time and I would recommend it to anyone. Can't wait to return for another experience! read more

My friends and I had an awesome time snorkeling with our tour guide, Alia! She was so nice, friendly, and professional! We were all beginners and her calm and patient demeanor helped to relieve our beginner jitters as she was teaching us how to snorkel. She explained everything we were going to do and also gave us tips on how to better navigate through the water. Don't worry if you're not a strong swimmer like myself, Alia was prepared with extra floaties! I felt safe, especially with Alia guiding us. I felt like Alia really went above and beyond, and I could tell that she loves to snorkel. Her passion for the ocean and its inhabitants really shines through when she talks about her experiences. I made a reservation the day before and there was still spots left!!! We got lucky!! We choose the snorkeling (swimming with turtles) and I am so happy that we did. The crew was extremely nice and you could tell they knew what they were doing. The captain Steve was nice and made sure we were safe. Kali and Chris were very knowledgeable and helpful as well. Snacks and drinks were provided which was nice. Once we got to the "cleaning station" as they call it we were there for a good amount of time. We saw a total of 4 sea turtles and many reef fish. It was an unforgettable experience. I recommend having a waterproof case if you want any pictures or videos. I did not have a waterproof case so I did not get any, but the experience itself was amazing and it's going to stay with me for life :) read more

Great experience. The pricing was just right for a two and a half hour excursion with provided snorkeling equipment and snacks. The captain Krash and the owner who assisted him and joined us in the water were so friendly and fun! Although the swells made visibility a bit difficult we still got our eyes on several large turtles and plenty of fish. I did get a bit sea sick but who cares! Used this company to book a snorkeling trip. The trip promised seeing sea turtles. I didn't think that would be guaranteed, but was definitively hoping to see some fish. We probably saw at least seven sea turtles. It was amazing. They took us to a great spot and we saw a ton of fish and the beautiful turtles. Needless to say, they have the best SUP lessons on the island and worth every penny for their outstanding services! My husband and I had to ask for their help because we previously attempted to rent a SUP from another company (North Shore Surf Shop) and ended up stranded in the open ocean and was helped by a lifeguard. The rentals shop gave us bad advice on the wind & current conditions and the ideal beach for beginner SUP. Eva of Pure Aloha Adventures advised us to change the lesson date to a less windy day. She also gave us advice on which locations on the island are suitable for SUP and gave us very detailed instructions on how to control the paddle. Now I feel very confident with SUP. We were surprised to see so many turtles at Ala Moana Beach, which we had never experienced before even though we live nearby. read more

Our first time as a family in Hawaii and of the several excursions this was the kids favorite. The kids are good swimmers, but never formally snorkeled but the crew was patient and gave great instructions. Make sure you arrive on time(kudos they provide detail instructions on how to get to the boat, you won't get lost). Shoes stay on the dock but locked away. It's a 15 minute beautiful boat ride out to the reef. There are plenty of snacks and water/soft drinks/juice on board. Not rough riding at all for anyone concerned about sea sickness. Once anchored, you get your gear on and then swim about 100 feet out to the reef area. There is a guide and 2 life guards in the water with the group at all times. There are also other boats/groups out at the same time and it seems like they know to take turns. One group is out there on the reef area at a time so its not crowded and also not lonely either. There is also a lily pad for those who want to get in the water but not swim out. The guide will point our turtles as well as give you hints and tips on how to free dive. On our trip we saw about 8-10 turtles at about 10-15 feet depth. We were out there a hour but we couldn't believe how fast time flew while we were out in the ocean. The water was definitely cold (it's December after all) but if you keep swimming you'll stay warm. All in all, this is a must do, highly recommend this small business owned by husband and wife and well worth the time and money and we would 100% do this again! read more

We went on the Honolulu Snorkel with Turtles Adventure! The location they have chosen is full of turtles, a variety of fish and a lot of other sea life! We had a first time snorkeler in our group who immediately felt comfortable in the water. Captain Krash was extremely funny and we loved Sushi! Sal was in the water the entire time for safety but was also quick to get our attention when turtles were surfacing! I can't count how many turtles we got to see! On the way back to the harbor we were lucky enough to come across Bottlenose Spinner Dolphins doing tricks and swimming along side the boat! My family and I booked the Turtle Swim. We had such a nice time. It was a short boat ride to our destination. We saw about 8 turtles. Two of the 8 were huge. That made the trip so worth it. Ask for Eva as the tour guide she is awesome!!! Driving up into this parking lot before our destined time we met with the parking lot attendant and he told us there were already 52 jelly-fish stings. It was only 10AM so we were definitely alarmed. I honestly didn't want my vacation to be wasted with a day dreading a jelly-fish sting. So we paid our $1 and parked the car with my heart pounding. I then met at the gift shop and saw Eva our guide for the snorkeling adventure she had just arrived. She gave us the you shouldn't or should speech as anyone that doesn't want to be liable for any health issues would. We proceeded to ask her many questions about the jelly-fish stings and then decided we will stick with our snorkeling appointment. Eva remained calm and tried to sooth our worries after deciding to stick to our appointment time. (There are THOUSANDS of people visiting this location everyday so 52 stings may sound like a lot but its a small fraction of people doing dumb things). Eva went over all the necessary things to know to snorkel and not to panic if anything happens and just to flop on your back and slowly compose yourself. We got to see so many different fishes and even an eel? I'm not too sure because it was hiding under a rock. No sea turtles :(. I personally would definitely be back and try scuba diving the next time around. For the first experience and patience big props to Eva for taking care of me! Will recommend this service to anyone trying snorkeling for the first time. Tip: Stick to your guide! Don't do your own thing you will end up regretting it. read more

First of all, we did not really tour with Pure Aloha. But I am still giving it a 5 star because of its customer service. We found the snorkeling deal through Groupon. However, due to some miscommunication between the tour guide (who was on her first day) and us, we missed each other. We ended up renting the equipment and tried ourselves, and Hanauma Bay was breathtaking. Eva and I communicated about what happened and we received full refund from Groupon (unfortunately, we only rent the car for today and tomorrow, but tomorrow is a Tuesday). At the beginning, I was disappointed but since it turned out the visibility was not that great (:p) due to a sea storm, and that we still had a good time there, and most importantly the considerate costumer service, we still very much enjoyed our day! read more

This was our first time snorkeling and definitely won't be our last. Eva was very informative, kind, attentive, and most of all caring. I had a couple of moment when I panicked (that's just the type of person I am- super cautious) and Eva was always there to check on me. She even allowed me to use her body to balance myself a few times. This snorkeling tour was hands down the best part of our trip- it is a MUST. I felt like I was inside a National Geographic episode. Most of all, you can tell Eva loves her job, it shows in her work ethic. We saw a sea turtle which was absolutely incredible. We also saw several species of fish. Just beautiful! Amazing snorkeling experience! We were picked up by Eva at our hotel in Waikiki at 7am for the 7:30 tour so that we wouldn't have to worry about the parking situation. She was so warm, friendly, and helpful. When we got there she parked and took us up to the ticket line and we got to go to the front of the line in front of everyone. So we saved a lot of time that way. Afterwards, we met up with the rest of our group (they only do snorkeling in groups of 5 -- which is such a plus!!), watched the mandatory info video and met up with Hollis our amazing tour guide! She set us up with snorkeling gear -- snorkel, mask, fins and a floatie if you're a less experienced swimmer -- and got us in the water. She definitely took us to areas of the bay we wouldn't have dared to venture alone. We saw so many fish and had so much fun! We also got some awesome pictures with their GoPro cam. Overall, highly recommend pure aloha if you're snorkeling for the first time! Oh and if you can get the Groupon!! That's what we did. read more

Had a nice experience on our Hanauma Bay guided snorkeling tour. Booking was easy and the directions provided through email was detailed and helpful planning for the trip out. We went on a Monday in mid September. A couple of things to keep in mind, Hanauma Bay is a very popular spot on the island. It was fairly busy with other visitors during our late morning/early afternoon tour. I'd recommend taking the early morning tour as we were told the fish and turtles tend to get scared off with the snorkel traffic. Also, the parking lot can fill quickly and spots are not available. We will definitely consider going back in the winter when the tides are calmer and there's a chance to see whales. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves with our friendly tour guide snorkeling in the bay. -Gratuity is appreciated read more

I worked with Ava when it came to Paddle boarding. She was so fun and professional at the same time. In addition she walked you through everything step by step that as long as you followed her instruction, you'd be pro no time. This is better than many other classes because she teaches in Ala Moana, where the waves are calmer so it's great to learn Paddle boarding there!!!
