Great service. Isaac helped me order a whole Ora king salmon to be delivered to my house in CA. Fish arrived overnight in beautiful shape, packed with care, fresh and delicious. Will order again, thank you!

Pure Food fish monger by the Athenian Restaurant
    Martin R.

First, let me say I'm a strong believer in supporting local businesses. And I'm a big fan of Pike Place Market, the nation's longest continuously operating farmer's market. Sometimes, I let things slide on good will. But when a line is crossed I feel it is my duty to say something. This is the fish monger right by the Athenian restaurant. Today, September 21, 2024, I bought over a pound of King Salmon, and realized at home it had such a strong fishy stench that it never saw the inside of a pot because I had to threw it out. Over $40 straight into the trash. Based on other reviews here I believe it's incompetent inventory management to maximize profits. It's not how to build a base of local, loyal customers. Sadly, I heard that the stand downstream from that location, City Fish Company, is now also owned by Pure Food. Good luck to all but I will cease doing business with this fish monger - there are other choices for fish at this market. Enough said.

Salmon filet which was supposed to be cut into 1 lb pieces
    Bob S.

Pure disappointment for me. As a seafood lover, we eat a lot different stuff but we really enjoy salmon. During my last visit to Seattle, I purchased some smoked salmon from them for my sister which was good. Although the piece we sampled in the store wasn't as salty as the one we received. Since that trip, I have ordered from them twice. The first box arrived damaged and wet. They also didn't cut the order as requested. This last order was for 4 - 1lb pieces of Alaskan King Salmon. Unfortunately, I received a large filet. I also wanted to buy more and add a 1 lb piece of smoked salmon & they require you to order 3 lbs which is rediculous since the box is paid for with extra room and they have 1 lb pieces. When I called and emailed them, they really didn't seem to care and I get inconsistent stories depending on who answers the phone. We have plenty of choices out there to order great seafood, I'm afraid others seem to care about the customer more and also offer special deals.

Yeah idk what's up with these other reviews but I've order from them idk how many times over the last 4-5 years but I've never had an issue at all. Great service if you call! lobster was amazing and the scampi shrimp are so damn big they're easily as big as some low end steak house lobsters imo. Their actually lobsters are as big as my forearm (of course you need to order ones these big 2 pounders)

sold me all end pieces and I purchased 6 lbs of mostly end pieces. called and reported and the manager asked for photos, I sent and he claimed he never received photos of garbage salmon. don't purchase always an issue. I have received spoiled fish over the years. Managers hide behind the phone and rip you off selling butchered pieces as in the photos and almost spoiled smelling as well. Told manager all of this and no response. When there is free shipping, the company ups the prices on the fish as well.

Well, let me tell you - the hype is real! You can't go wrong with any option, but my personal favorite is the spicy salmon. And that's just the tip of the iceberg, my friends. Smoked salmon belly bowl is to die for. Same with the eel. So are ALL of the sushi bombs. Did I mention the smoked salmon mac salad is the undisputed king of mac salads? Don't even get me started on Sal's specials. From the crab rolls, to the Salmon Sinigang - the lunch options just don't miss. All of the smoked salmon is some of the best I've had in my 15 years living in Seattle. Especially the salmon jerky. I put the smoked fish up there with the best in PNW. All of the seafood here is so fresh, no matter what you're looking for you're getting the best the city has to offer. The staff are all amazing at what they do and are so friendly. You can tell they really love what they are doing and that speaks to how great the owners are. Love supporting good businesses. One trip and it won't be long before you have a new go-to take out spot and you'll be rocking fish guys gear. Trust me, just go...now.

But the lunch omakase special is what I really wanted I think. But even so. The poke bowl was mixed. I have to unfortunately knock off the stars/taste because the rice I got was literally the worst rice I've ever had touching raw fish. The rice was like hard and stale. I even had a clump that looked like it was the burnt part from leaving it on the cooker for too long and it couldn't bite it. I know this place is for the fish, but there's a bare minimum expectation on rice quality. And the fish itself was good? Maybe cuz it's the poke and not the omakase (so mixed chopped pieces) but there were pieces that tasted super fresh and delicious and then there were pieces that had so much tendon I couldn't bite through it. The folks there were super nice and friendly especially since I had no idea what to order. Just wish I was more delighted by the meal, especially cuz it was like $18 poke bowl. I'll give it another try with hopes it's better next time.

Located a few blocks from Amtrak's King Street Station, Taylor Shellfish offered an inviting mix of lunch and dinner menu items. In its website, we learn that this is the brand's Oyster Saloon "because it is the perfect place to enjoy our specialty cocktails or a drink of your choice from our extensive bar offerings with freshly shucked oysters during an after work happy hour." I was looking for a light lunch, and selected Classic Clam Steamers, served in a shallot, butter, garlic and white wine broth ($19). Fit the bill perfectly. The seating was ample, vibe was friendly (FIFA's World Cup was in full gear), conversations were easy to participate in, and service was excellent. The creamy dip in the head crab shell got us intrigued, so we headed there for dinner. After a short wait for a table, we got seated and got our waters. The server gave us a run down of the popular items, one of which was their sampler for MP ($160). It has a dozen oysters, a whole crab, geoduck, shrimp cocktail, and more. Good deal for sharing. That was way to much food, so we just ordered the whole crab and geoduck sashimi. We also got a couple side orders of rice. The crab was pretty small to share, but it was fresh. The dip was pretty good. The crab "fat" flavor was a little too subtle, but it was still a tasty dip for the crab meat. I had imagined that it would be a kind of crab chowder, but it's more of a mayonnaise mixture. I thought $71 for the crab was a bit pricey though. The geoduck sashimi was really good. There were portions of both the siphon and belly fat. This isn't a typical menu item, so I was glad they offered it. The staff is so friendly. They made us feel at home. I wish they could just hang and chat with us lol. They were so busy though. Anyway, we were satisfied with our meal and enjoyed our time there.

What immediately caught our attention (for obvious reasons) was the bold sign: LIVE KING CRAB. We walked in and were instantly impressed. Large water tanks filled with live Dungeness crab and live king crab, crystal-clear water, and absolutely no fishy smell--always an excellent sign. The space feels more like a clean, well-run warehouse set up for both wholesale and retail, not a typical seafood market. A gentleman working there quickly came over and started chatting with us about crab. Super knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a wide selection: live, fresh, and frozen crab, Japanese scallops, fish, and a variety of shellfish. We considered the live king crab, but it was honestly too big for the two of us to handle in a hotel kitchen--and definitely would've been a splurge. So, plan B: I called my sister-in-law to see if she'd like some frozen king crab legs. She said yes immediately. The gentleman showed us the frozen options, and the king crab legs were long, meaty, and impressive--similar in size to what Costco carries, but priced better. We ended up negotiating a great deal and purchased a box of their Party Pack King Jumbo Crab Legs for her. Later that evening, she surprised her daughter with a king crab birthday dinner, and they reported the legs were super meaty and absolutely delicious. Safe to say, we'll definitely keep Seattle Seafood Center in mind for future seafood splurges.
