This is a gem hidden in Oculus. It has a great variety of wines and liquors with good prices. The gentleman there is always so friendly, polite, and has great customer service. I stopped by Pure Liquid Wine & Spirits to pick up a few thank you gifts for some folks I was seeing while visiting New York. I was looking for a liquor store in the Financial District and was pleased to find this place in the Oculus, where I was already running another errand. The shop was great, attractive and peaceful with a large selection of wine and a smaller but still robust selection of liquor. I got a lot of help from the woman running the place, who was the only other person there when I dropped in just after noon on a Thursday. She recommended some bottles, and I ended up leaving with a couple Scotches, a tequila, and a mezcal. The liquor was expensive--the bottles I recognized seemed to cost 10-15% more than what I tend to pay in L.A.--but I feel like the prices were in keeping with other fancy New York liquor stores, at least in this neighborhood. I could be wrong, but I was also paying for my laziness and lack of planning, so can't really complain. I'd recommend Pure Liquid if you're looking to buy some nice wine or liquor on your way in or out of the Financial District. read more

I don't really understand the good reviews here. I usually go to Chambers Street Wines or Archive, but figured I would give this spot a try. The selection is mediocre, and there are WILD markups. When I walked in I saw the salesman standing in the middle of the store stuffing his face with food, which set the tone and level of professionalism for the rest of the encounter. I told him I was looking for a particular Bastianich wine, and he said, "what's that?" He acted as if he didn't know what or who that was. I explained that someone referred me there, and I was looking for a particular wine. He said, "If you want Italian wine, I have Italian wine." Interesting how he didn't know what it was but could tell you it was Italian wine. He then said, "We are not allowed to sell Bastianich wine. Well, you could have saved us both some time by saying, sorry we don't carry it and he could have saved me the trouble of having to deal with him, albeit for a short time. He was unhelpful, rude, obnoxious, and generally couldn't be bothered, and had the attitude, as if to say, why are you here and bothering me? Ok, you are middle aged, and working in a wine store on a Sunday afternoon; I get it. Your life didn't turn out as you imagine it would, but really! Rude and racist. Would not recommend at all. Older gentleman had an issue with one of my friends who happens to be black. Would not come over to him when he had a question, was snippy to him when he tried to ask him a question. I WAS looking to purchase a nice Pinot Grigio but not from this place. On my latest NYC trip, I had a chance to stop in and try a few wines. I was quite impressed with the great selection of wines and spirits here. The staff was also knowledgeable and friendly when flooded with questions. This store is well maintained, well stocked, and I liked that their prices span the low and high end of the spectrum. I stopped in one evening after work to grab a bottle of wine after passing by the store on numerous occasions. When compared to the stark white, modernist interior of the rest of the Oculus, Pure Liquid feels like an old school wine cellar with dark woods and bottles lining the walls. Further, due to its location (and its offer of a discount for PATH riders, which I am not one of, unfortunately) it is a great option for commuters looking to grab something quick on their way home. The selection was fairly broad (though did not have many choices from Alsace; my preferred region) and I found most of the prices to be reasonable when compared to other stores in this area. I did not look at the liquors, but for wines between $15-$30, Liquid Spirit seemed to be well stocked. Unlike others' experiences below, I found the clerk to be very knowledgeable of regions and varietals, and I was even offered a sample of one of the wines I was curious about. I'm sure I'll stop back in soon after they've had an opportunity to rotate some of their selection. read more

I'm quite pleased that a wine and spirit shop opened in the oculus. Super easy to grab a bottle or two on the way home. Small store but very nicely done. They have tastings every night and the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable. A small selection but well curated both in wines and in spirits. They also have wines for under $20 up front. The organization of the store is pretty cool. NY State wines towards the back are a particularly nice surprise. I bought a dry Riesling based on a staff recommendation. It was exactly what I wanted and was within my price range. Really worth a visit if your in the oculus. read more

Horrible attitude from the sales clerk! In passing by the store, I noticed a sign outside that offers a 10% discount for all path riders. I proceeded to pick up a bottle and presented my path card and was asked for the full price. I pointed to the sign and was responded with "A discount on a $15 bottle?" This place was highly disappointing. I am a woman of color and the person who worked there was helping another patron who was white. I KNEW what I came for and I politely said excuse me when I was ready to pay. I was brushed off and stood at the counter to wait while he still helped the other patron, completely ignoring me. The clerk working the counter (longer hair with a ponytail) was an insufferable jerk who seemed like he enjoys making people feel unwelcome. He continuously made passive aggressive and rude comments to me and my family while we were shopping. Something tells me nobody has ever called him out because when I did he seemed shocked but continued to be rude. I told him his attitude and "jokes" were rude and unnecessary. He told me my humor was lacking because I didn't find it funny to disrespect my family? Very obvious this man gets into it with customers on a daily basis based off the reviews. I'm literally shaking because I've never experienced such disrespect from a service worker, and we purchased quite a lot from him. Instead of thanking us he threatened to kick us out because I told him he was being rude. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE MAN. Agree with other reviewers concerning the customer service. I live in the area and frequent this shop because I think the wines are well cultivated at varying price points (even if generally marked up - a function of NYC and also the location). Sometimes I'll buy a $100 bottle of champagne or Cabernet for a special occasion. But most times I want a nice inexpensive table wine because I, you know, work for a living and wine isn't my prioritized expense. I notice a marked increase in condescension from the gray-haired gentleman behind the counter when I'm purchasing the latter. On one particular occasion, I asked if they had a certain bottle that they normally have stocked and displayed in the front, and marketed as one of their "under $20" bottles of red. The response I got was, "do you see it? Then we don't have it," and then he proceeded to bury his head in his computer. I then picked up a bottle of Billecart Rose that I was buying for a friend's birthday. His attitude immediately changed: he got chatty and told me when they expected the next shipment of said red. Needless to say, I still continue to shop here for now due to lack of options in the area. But another experience or two like this and I'll probably reconsider. I do wish that they'd work on the customer service because apparently this is a theme throughout the reviews on Yelp. I like to support local businesses, so maybe go to a class or something for some additional training. Sheesh. read more

Incredibly rude man on the phone. I called to inquire about a non-printed/regular Blue Label bottle after mistakenly purchasing a limited edition NYC printed bottle. Man on phone said only the box was printed and the bottle on the inside was the same. I started to explain that the bottle was printed on as well and if he pulled the bottle out of the box he would see the printed part (the front has no print on it). He replied, "I don't have time for that," and hung up on me. Uhm, you can be rude but you should also know your products. So you can spend $250 here but don't expect any customer service. They'll take your money and then tell you they don't have time for you, that is literally what happened. read more

I had a variety of wine shipped to San Francisco. Fast, excellent (light weight) packaging and a surprise gift in the box. I was bought a bottle of white Chardonnay over $50 last night and open with friends, find out this wine must seller over hearted, the wine flavor was totally destroy and taste like a bottle of water mix with a shot of vodka. I was embarrassed in front of my friends，but it's ok, I know it will happened sometime in my wine tasting journey. I was trying notify them, check the other bottles in the same case, I don't want those bad wines hurt their reputation, because i kinda like that store. I call the store, no one answered.
