It was Amelia's Gotcha Day... the closest thing any little adopted dog has to a birthday... and truthfully even more important. Anyone who knows me, knows that my life revolves around that little spaniel mix. We had a weekend-long celebration with her doggy group, cake and presents at home, and we wanted another outing... so we checked out Pure Pawsh. Pure Pawsh is sort of an all-around doggie playground. They have a gate when you walk in, so it is fully off-leash if you would like. When we walked in, we were asked if we were there for trivia. Apparently there was dog-themed trivia from the French Bulldog rescue. Despite having no idea there was dog trivia, we contributed to the rescue and decided to participate. Amelia tried a dog beer (chicken broth with a few treats on top), but it wasn't her favorite. Luckily, they also had peanut banana doggy ice cream which she devoured. I enjoyed a hard kombucha to start.. Later, my husband and I both enjoyed some local Bivouac Cider. They also serve some beer and wine, and very light snacks. You are welcome to bring your own food. I saw several people had ordered Sister's Pizza from across the street. We had fun playing along with the dog trivia. I thought I knew a ton about dogs, but I guess not so much compared to the rescue people, as we didn't even place in the top three teams. However, it was fun and it was to raise money for the rescue. Amelia enjoyed socializing with other dogs, but, even more, getting lots of attention and treats. It's always great to see her so happy! If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be there each week. I recently had my first visit to Pure Pawsh after seeing a music bingo event being held there on social media. I'll preface my review by saying that the only unfavorable thing I have to say is about the parking, which is understandable because it's in North Park. It can be difficult to find street parking although there are pay lots scattered around. This is such a cute cozy place that offers many different services, including a store, grooming, event space and nice place to hang out with your furry friend. The outdoor and indoor seating is a plus and is great for people/dog watching since it's right on 30th st. Comfy couches and other areas to sit along with a bar with both humans and dog beverages really adds. It's also nice that they allow outside food and there's a lot of restaurants to choose from within a few blocks. The music bingo event itself was unique and fun and everyone had a great time (not to mention some pretty cool prizes!) I also met the owner who was so nice and helpful and love that she brings her own dogs to the shop. I will definitely be back! read more

Okay, the fact that I'm just now reviewing my weekly hangout spot is wild. Pure Pawsh is truly one of a kind, and I hope it never leaves. It's more than a bar, doggy day care, or a pet shop -- it's a full-on community hub that supports some of the best local rescues. The staff is so fun and chill that every visit feels like catching up with friends. Yes, San Diego has plenty of dog‑friendly bars, but this is a dog place. The bar is literally made for dogs. Your pups can be off‑leash, mingle, and even enjoy their own brew and snacks right alongside you. My partner and our dog Enzo are here weekly, sipping on a bevy, watching sports, and of course, petting dogs. I leave with a serotonin boost every single time from being around so many happy pups and their people. And lastly -- Ashley, the owner, is awesome. She created a dream space I didn't even know we needed in our community. My new Pomeranian to me here to check out the scenery. This is the scene my previous Pomeranian and I would look for and since I have a new dog, perfect opportunity to check it out. We came on a day they had another dog breed meetup but the place is still open to the public even if there are scheduled gathers here. This place offered washing stations, a human and dog bar serving human and dog concoctions, indoor and outdoor seating, retail, and very cool and unique animal treats (not just for dogs). My new Pomeranian enjoyed interacting with other dogs that were unleashed and enjoying the space as their humans socialize and drank beer. It was a chill vibe! We had an amazing birthday celebration for our best girl, and we are so glad we chose Pure Pawsh! From the beginning, Ashley was so communicative and helpful with planning every detail. We had plenty of space for our group (including some furry friends!) and loved the amount of seating and how open the whole space is. Personally, I am a cat dad but I love all animals and I am glad that my wife and I happened to stop into Pure Pawsh. We are also beer drinkers and we couldn't resist getting a pint at the bar. The fellow patron was amiable (also an employee?) as was the bartender. I think Pure Pawsh just attracts cool people. Dog Friendly Bar? No, I would say that PP is a dog bar that is people-friendly. Either that, or a dogs' version of Chuck E Cheese (they have an off-leash playroom). For humans, they also serve cider, hard kombucha, and mocktails. Yappy Hour is Tues-Sun 3-6 PM with $6 drafts and $2 dog beers. Yes, dog beers! If you get hungry, Crazee Burger and Brother's Mexican deliver. Both have vegan options. They have Meetups here that are organized by breed, but I would bet that the Mutt Meetup is the most fun. They also host fundraisers for animal nonprofits. Very cool! PP also provides services like grooming and doggie daycare. Came here a couple weeks ago just to hang out with my fur baby and loved the atmosphere. Besides the staff being great, people inside were really kind. Even though my baby is still getting used to other dogs, the environment felt safe for socialization. I had the cali creamin fall flavor and my partner had a hard cider. I was most excited about the single dog grooming happening at a time (my guy is anxious and needs someone's full attention) and the awesome space to hang out and be cozy. The groomer was amazing with him and even let me stand with him at the end when we got to the dreaded nail trim. Okay getting this out of the way, parking sucks and is not part of the 5 star rating. The dogs are well mannered and the people are acceptable. Showed up after a good run at Grape St dog park. Harper and Scooby loved it, from the patio with dog games to the back area that is off leash albeit a bit small. But hey it's northpark and you can't afford land here either. Stephanie and Sophie were amazing. One took a chicken treat and the other helped us with all the flavors of adult beverage. Will come again. Wish they had dog paw valet service. read more

I mean it was a pug meetup so it doesn't get much better than that. This place is cute though and has beer so u can hang with your pup. Normally the pups don't run around and u have them on leash but this was a special event so they had everything closed up so they could run. Pure Pawsh just opened and it's such a cute place to bring and shop for your dog! The gated area is really nice so your dog can be off leash while you relax in the beautiful San Diego weather. Theres also a cute photo opportunity for your dog in the outside area (take a look at my pup!). They have a cute selection of dog accessories and unique treats that I can't wait for my pup to try once he's a little older. I chatted a bit with the owner and she was very friendly. DO NOT BEING YOUR PETS HERE. BE CAREFUL. I brought my moms mini toy poodle to get groomed. I asked for recommendations on Facebook & Samantha the groomer said she colors dogs for $20 additional to grooming of $50. Which is the cheapest I've heard in San Diego. Penny looked so cute once done, bows in her ears and paws purple and black. She walked out of the place looking super excited. Within hours she looked very sad, I didn't know why. The following day, she had a limp, confused but nothing was visibly wrong. 3 days later her paw is completely swollen and red from her biting it, I panic. Finally took her to the vet and they found a rubber band on her leg!!! Right on the line where the groomer had dyed it black. Her circulation was being cut off!!! It was so tight we couldn't see it, it wasn't until the vet had to shave her entire leg to see it. Then the back left leg also had a rubber band but this one actually cut through to a ligament! She required stitches and a cone. It's been weeks and she still has a limp, the vet said it may or may not ever heal again. Spoke to the owner & she denied the whole thing. Refunded us the money & said maybe one of our kids put a rubber band on her??? We have no kids.... The EXACT RUBBER BAND THAT WAS ON HER EARS. This dog may be hurt for the rest of her life due to the incompetence of the dog groomer who used to be a hair dresser. Probably has little to no experience with dogs. I do not recommend anyone to support this business in any form. read more

We bring our dog to Pure Pawsh for daycare and it's hands down the best thing we've done for him. He is obsessed with everyone who works there. He literally melts into their laps everytime we show up and sprints to see his dog friends. It's so sweet. They take him on walks throughout the day, they incorporate enrichment activities and he plays his little heart out with his dog friends. We appreciate that they only take a limited number of pups at a time and it's not 16 dogs per human like other places. We decided to try Pure Pawsh for grooming after we had a great experience at the store and interacting with the kind gal working! At the time their yelp was absolutely spammed by one individual and all of her family and friends she had write negative reviews from a single experience and I thought that was extremely unfair. I brought my two shih tzus (1 puppy and 1 senior) with me and had initially just scheduled my puppy but they were able to take my senior girl to do a nail clipping which I was super excited about because I am fearful of taking her anywhere since her last grooming experience left her literally burned and limping. Their groomer (samantha I think?) did AMAZING! She handled both of my dogs with care and Versace came out looking floofier and better than ever and seemed to be on cloud 9 which is unusual he had 2 grooming experiences previously that left him shaky and anxious! I was finally able to trust a place enough to get my baby girl Dior (14 yo) groomed and she did great! She looked and smelled fabulous and I brought both dogs back again a few weeks ago and had another amazing experience. Pure pawsh is amazing all around and I am so grateful to have found them! Fair prices, great positive environment and most importantly A GROOMER THAT WE CAN TRUST!
