Everyone was very nice and very attentive. We ordered 4 items: orange ginza roll, una don, inari and the annin dofu dessert Orange ginza: oh yeah!! I usually hesitate getting citrusy rolls because they end up tasting the same as any other place or the citrus part over powers everything, but this was unique and the flavors balanced each other out. Tempura was also nice and crispy. Also love that they used lemon zest(?). Would order again. Una don: Their sauce for this is SO good and the unagi was cooked perfectly. Would order again. Inari set. I LOVE tofu and you don't see inaris in SD. We were very happy with this. Would order again. Annin dofu - this one was unique. Very almond heavy (not a bad thing). This is the only item I wouldn't get again. The tofu was tasty but I think a lot was going on with this dessert. There was a lot of texture, flavors, and color Not sure if this is normal for this dessert lots going on. there were mochi bits, tofu, matcha sauce, granola, raisins, dried strawberries(?). Fun to look at and try but kind of a lot going on. Overall: Would definitely come back. I wouldn't come with a group larger than 4! The staff were welcoming and noted that they were making more rice due to the fact they were busier than expected on a Wednesday night. The server offered to comp a drink or an appetizer for the wait, but at the end it looked like they ended up not comping anything. - FOOD - We got a few rolls to share and they were all pretty good. We also ordered the Seadragon Roll (eel and avocado) and the Rainbow Roll, both of which were classic favorites with fresh ingredients. The unadon was another standout, with rich pieces of eel that were perfectly glazed. We also ordered a poke bowl with rice, three scoops of salmon, all the standard toppings, garlic ponzu, and a side of yuzu wasabi aioli. I ordered take out over the phone and my food was ready in 25 minutes. Service was very friendly and warm. The quality of the food was incredible. The attention to detail and flavors exceeded my expectations. - Orange Ginza Line speciality roll - This roll is a must have and my favorite item that I ordered. There was so much flavor between the salmon, orange slices, and garlic aioli. Everything blended together like a unique piece of art. - Rainbow Roll - solid and what you'd expect. Not my favorite item of the day. - Sea dragon roll - delicious: the attention to detail with the avocado slices to the perfect grilled eel this one blended together really nicely. - Poke Bowl - I ordered 3 scoops of Salmon (extra $5 for the third scoop) - this was really delicious. The salmon marinade blended together nicely with the flavored rice. Una Don - the unagi pieces had the perfect smoky and sweet flavor blend. One of the best unagi pieces I've ever had. Overall five stars for the quality of food, creativity especially with the Orange Ginza Line, and service. I will caveat that the portion sizes are quite small for the price point. I was out the door $118 for this meal for two. I'd recommend ordering like you would at an elevated dining restaurant. Try a bowl and a couple of rolls per person and splurge a little. The interior of the shop is clean and minimal and on the smaller side. Be warned there was no AC on a warm summer day when I came. This place is one of my new favorite spots! It's pretty hidden, tucked away in an unassuming little plaza in an industrial area. I think the people there were also surprised to have us come by, because they asked how we came across the place. Apparently it's recently gotten taken over by a new owner and remodeled. The interior and exterior is super cute, with kawaii Japanese decorations all throughout. There's also a cute cat theme throughout, with a little paw print stamped into the wasabi and little ceramic cat chopstick holders. The food was reasonably priced and also delicious. My favorite was the Inari set, which were very plump and full of delicious fish and juicy tofu skin. The Ajitama eggs were also yummy, and the sauce it's marinated was good enough to drink up after. When it came to the rolls, there were so many good ones to choose from, I'll have to come back to try more of them. We went with the Sanji's roll and the Buldak roll. Both of them are really well done, but I still think the Inari set was the star of the show for this meal. I also saw they sold other rice dishes/dons, which looked good, and I'll have to try that another time. There was also a selection of sakes and beers to try. Didn't try it this time, but there was a yuzu sorbet that I would want next time. Overall, this place is a hidden gem, the staff is friendly, the interior is cozy, and the food is affordable and good quality. Great sushi spot that I would say is a hidden gem! The rolls are really tasty and the fish is fresh! You can taste the quality and the detail in every roll. You can tell the sushi chef cares. I like this place cause you don't have to drive far to get great sushi. The inside is super chill lots of smaller tables, I'd say it's not for bigger parties more than 5 people. Incredible atmosphere, just to start off. Not in the fancy sense, but in that it genuinely felt like I was back in Japan. Either the owner or some other member of the staff clearly lived in Japan or has been there multiple times, because out of all the sushi places I've been in the USA, few have fit the feeling of Japan as good as this one. And it doesn't stop there; the food, while decidedly Americanized with lots of topping on the sushi, was Japan-quality in taste. Didn't get a chance to check out the shitter or pisser there, if they even have one, but I'm sure if they do that the bathrooms would probably have a bidet to blast my ass with how good the service and food was there. Not the cheapest place to go eat, but definitely not the most expensive, and the food is well above the amount you're paying. Also, be sure to make a reservation: only 3 people working there from what I saw and there's not too many seats, so you're looking at hours-long wait time if you go in the evening on some days. Easily the best sushi place in the area. If you like sushi, and you haven't been here, and you don't go here in the next week, then you're really just being an asshole to yourself. read more

And I MEAN THIS when I say it: I could eat 25 of those. Sincerely the tastiest thing I've had in a long time! Then we had the avocado roll, rainbow roll, and broiled eel nigiri. All the cuts for the rolls were tasty and fresh. Tremendous quality. The eel nigiri was melt in your mouth with a great flame broiled flavor. Really tasty sushi. Then had the chashu don (the pork bowl). Dang. Like the flavor in the sauce for that was 10/10. The meat was also very yummy. Ended the night with the homemade yuzu ice cream. Solid sushi spot in Mira Mesa! We walked in without a resy on a weekday night and surprised the restaurant was pretty filled. There was ample of parking in the lot surrounded by breweries. We were immediately seated at one table by the speakers. The music was blaring right at us, it was a bit loud and the owner noticed and turned it down a notch. Service is an area of improvement and could use a little more support. Nonetheless I think they are family owned and really tried their best! I thought the rolls were a bit on the pricier end. This is what we ordered: - Daruma Roll (5/5): This was my favorite dish of the night! I like scallops and might be a little biased but this worked out perfectly with the ikura and yuzu aioli. - Citrus Hamachi Roll (4.5/5): This was my fiancés favorite and my runnerup. After seating ourselves, thankfully there were menus on the table next to us, so we used those, Other than that, after 7 mins. I watched the server check up on the other couple MULTIPLE TIMES and never really checked up on me and my daughter unless we 1. Made direct eye contact, and 2. Actually flag him down. Also, I have to agree with the other person in regards to the temperature inside the restaurant, air flow wasn't really flowing. It was quite hot in there. Oh! I really liked this place - food was fantastic and I loved all the Japanese cat themed things. It was relatively empty on a weekday for lunch and we were able to pick any table. You order at the counter (because we could only see two people working) and then they bring you your order. For our group, we tried a few rolls and had the tempura shrimp and seaweed salad appetizers. The citrus hamachi and protein rolls were Mt favorites. Everything tasted really fresh and well put together. I loved how when it was presented, each roll was on a tray with a cat chopstick stand, ginger, and sauce bowl. Cui-daoré ('eat until you drop') is a part of The Miralani Makers District which is a set of small businesses located at an industrial warehouse complex in the Miramar neighborhood. This eatery happens to be a Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar and a few tables for seating. The ambiance resembled more of a cafe with plenty of open space. The shared lot in front of the suite had about a dozen spots. A two page food menu offered appetizers, classic rolls, specialty rolls, sashimi, nigiri, and a poke bowl. Another menu listed the beers, sake, and soju for alcoholic beverages. I chose the Salmon Belly nigiri to start my meal. It was served as two good quality pieces although for a belly cut, I have seen lengthier portions. I also order two of the specialty rolls... a Hachiko's Roll and a Protein Roll. The first consisted of yellowtail, avocado, and cucumber on the inside. Albacore, shiso leaf, bonito flakes, spicy ponzu, crispy onions, and green onions topped this roll. I thought the presentation was muddied by the bonito flakes as it was difficult to make out the eight pieces if you look at my photo of the item. The second was a soy-paper wrapped roll with spicy tuna, imitation crab, albacore, hotate (scallop), salmon, cucumber, avocado, and ponzu. Usually, such a riceless creation comes in five or six pieces. The version here had eight pieces which was a good deal, especially with multiple seafood items included in the filling. The staff was very pleasant as they were catching up with takeout orders during my visit. I gave a four star rating for my dining experience at Cui-daoré. read more

I found this cute new Japanese restaurant while I stopped by for Jaunt Coffee! Their logo with the boy and cat caught my eye and the owner Calvin (apologies for the potential wrong spelling) was super kind with introducing me to his new store and going over the menu! The inside is spacious and so cute with all the small cat figure and popmart figure decorations. I ended up ordering the inari set togo and I really enjoyed it for the price and taste! The salmon one was my favorite and I especially loved the extra touch where the wasabi is shaped like a cat paw! The owner recommended me to go on Thursdays while they still have limited hours throughout the week because more menu items are available compared to Sundays. I can't wait to visit again! read more

I love Cui Daore. If you've ever read my old reviews, I did not like the sushi establishment at this location prior to CD so this is Heaven-sent for me. Cui-daore Sushi is hands down my go-to sushi spot. I come here every week on my lunch break, and after trying about half the menu so far, I can confidently say the artistry and care that Calvin (the owner) and his staff put into each roll really stands out. Calvin owns and operates Cui-daore, and he once shared with me his vision of opening a small sushi restaurant focused on flavor and an intimate dining experience. You can feel that intention in everything. He's constantly refining the menu and tweaking his specialty rolls, which keeps things exciting even if you come in often. I will say, this restaurant isn't set up for large parties at one time... maybe 4 people in a group at a time. The reason being that there is usually only 2 people working at a time... so bring a friend or two... just not the whole neighborhood at once. Right now, my favorite is the Citrus Hamachi Roll. Spicy tuna topped with yellowtail and lemon. The flavors are bright, clean, and honestly perfect for waking me up after screen fatigue from work. The atmosphere is calm, inviting, and contemporary. There are a lot of wooden elements that make the space feel warm and relaxed without being visually busy. It's the kind of place you actually want to sit and enjoy your meal. Five stars consistently for the past seven months of eating here weekly. This is the sushi restaurant to try and return to. I like to think that this place is definitely a new sleeper in Miramar. It's located in a small makers market, and just recently opened. So far, I've been here twice, just because of their Inari pockets! They use a sweet tofu skin that's charred, leaving a little smokey taste and it's filled with great quality fish. I've had some of their sashimi and one of their rolls, and you can definitely tell that the quality of the ingredients is on the better side. The service is fine, and the servers and shelf are very friendly. I spoke to one of the servers about the restaurant and he seemed pretty enthusiastic and we talked about how we wanted the place to grow. The ambiance is nice too. It's kind of a more open concept, and has nicer Japanese esque decoration, and is kind of that performative kind of vibe.
