I came here at the beginning of the week for a regular manicure. I knew I had a few social commitments where my nails would be on display. Usually, I can get by with a cut and file, but after doing some chores around the house, a few of my nails were oddly shaped, so I thought that I would leave it to the professionals. The polish selection is tightly edited which works for me, as facing down a large wall of polish can at times be overwhelming. I decided to branch out, with a greenish-gray shade for autumn. The nail technician listened when I said I wanted my nails cut short, and minimal cutting to the cuticle. The polish itself lasted almost a week and a half, which is almost a record for me. I arrived in Chicago a day before my conference began and visited Pure Rain as a walk-in. Sometimes salons advertise that they "welcome walk-ins", but they don't really mean it. The staff at Pure Rain mean it. I was greeted warmly & the salon had a very clean & calm atmosphere. My technician was friendly and extremely thorough & professional. This was my first time here and it was an okay experience. I did the lavender pedicure with added foot massage and gel polish! They offered a nice variety of available time slots! They also had a nice variety of colors! I was disappointed they didn't have individual massage chairs, I always love sitting in them when I get a pedicure. Also, I paid for extra massage time but the pressure wasn't as much as I had wished. In addition my heels are still cracked after having them scrubbed and what not. Price point was typical and the treatment was nice, the minty cream with hot towels on top. Overall, fine service with fine prices. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND ARE A POC. I debated writing this review because, while my nails look nice, the experience did not sit right with me, and I feel compelled to address it given the price I paid and how nail salons are consistently hiking their prices.. I made an appointment for the evening and arrived 20 minutes early. By the time it was my turn, I had to wait an additional 30 minutes past my scheduled time for service. What was the point of making an appointment if I was going to be made to wait? While I was sitting there, a white woman walked in and was offered water and given all the gel color options by the receptionist. I was not offered water once, even after waiting 30 minutes, nor handed the selection of colors. The treatment was appalling and highlighted the obvious disparity in customer service. When I finally got to the technician, I requested a fill for my gel extensions. He acted like he didn't understand me and instead explained something irrelevant--how to put my nails under the UV light (seriously, lol). As a result, I ended up getting a regular gel fill instead. I know he rushed through my service because there was only an hour left until closing, but servicing me at my scheduled time would have made a huge difference. Overall, I can't recommend this salon, especially if you value respectful and equitable treatment. It's clear they have a long way to go in terms of customer service and inclusivity. read more

I have always loved Pure Rain Nail Spa and I still do! The salon has gotten a makeover which looks fantastic. It's light and airy with a lot of white and lavender. The street front windows allow a ton of light in and it also makes it easy to watch the street scene nearby. I saw Amy on this last visit. I LOVED her! She was so friendly and personable. We chatted during the entire service. It was so refreshing to have light conversation during my relaxing service. My manicure is perfect. I love the shape of my nails - just as I had requested. She expertly applied my polish on the entire nail. My pet peeve is when they miss the sides. Amy did an incredible job. I don't live in the neighborhood but will try to become a regular here. One thing to know- Aida will not uphold your appointments and is unprofessional. I went online and booked an appointment that specifically said for her to be the technician. This appointment was confirmed. When I went to the salon, I was told that Aida decided to take a last minute appointment with another client at 2:30 pm. My confirmed appointment was at 2:45 pm. As a result, they attempted to have a different technician do my nails. It was very disappointing to have such unprofessionalism from Aida and for the salon to not recognize how rude it was to not uphold a client's appointment and preferences. I super glued them, then called them the next morning to tell them what happened. They told me to come back. (Please note I had to spend money on train tickets there and back, both times.) I went back and they fixed the nails that had peeled for free but then a few other nails peeled, in the end everything but my thumbs peeled and all my nails got weird divots in the sides and broke. I hate leaving bad reviews for small businesses, but I spent too much $$ for that to happen. UPDATE: Pure Rain contacted me right after I posted my review and I went back and got a regular mani free of charge, they are super nice and were very pleasant about the whole thing. Location is super easy to find and accessible for my relatively new to the city self! However, I am disappointed and a bit confused by the service I received. I had the no-chip pedi and mani, pedi service was great and 6 days later no complaints. The finger nails however are quite disappointing. Though no chipping has occurred, one of my nails came all the way off the next day. The nails have all lifted and it appears to be like a bubble is forming under all of my finger nails. I went back in to have the one nail that originally came off repaired, today it is lifting almost completely off alongside just about every other nail. The no-chip gel nail is not a great option, not only is it over priced but it's a terrible manicure. read more

I can't say enough positive things about Pure Rain Nail Spa. My daughter and I stopped in on a Wednesday evening, inquiring if they had availability for two walk-in mani pedis. They didn't have availability for that evening, but graciously made us an appointment for the following morning--which worked to our advantage. At 10am on a Thursday, we had the entire nail salon to ourselves for the duration of our appointment--very relaxing and enjoyable! The facility is very clean with tasteful decor. Mani and pedi stations are very comfortable. We felt right at home. The staff really sets this salon apart from other nail salons we've visited in differing locales. Everyone that helped us was highly friendly, polite and accommodating. The nail technicians were very talented, paying exquisite attention to even the most minute detail. My cat eye no-chip (aka gel) manicure was one of the best I've ever seen. Not everyone can get this type of manicure right. During our manicures, we wore collagen gloves which made our hands very soft. Though we live out of state, we'll be sure to frequent Pure Rain Nail Spa whenever we return to Chicago. For years I went to this place every two weeks. Not anymore. Print out the prices before you go in because they aren't posted in the store and you get a different price each time. The last time I called for an appointment, they told me that they no longer did the Monday special (It's posted on their website). A French no chip was going to cost me $65 (according to their website, it should be $43 for the no chip and $10 extra for the French). A regular pedicure would cost $55 (the website price is $38). The thing that made me hung up was that they were going to charge me to remove gel that THEY put on two weeks ago. It's obvious the workers are gouging their customers and putting the difference in their pockets along with the gratuities. It's hard to be more disrespectful to your customers. read more
