I loved how easy it was to get an appointment for Monday during my lunch hour. The one thing to keep in mind is, that the no chip and pedicure will take about an hour and half. But it's definitely worth going on Monday to take advantage of special - $65 for no chip and pedicure. read more

Best mani pedi I have ever received. Super attentive and detail oriented. Loved the hot stone massage on both hands and feet as well as the collagen gloves on the hands. Nails chipped very quickly after my second time here. In a day or two. Also, the (Polish?) woman who was at the front desk was a huge bitch, not sure how else to put it. She ignored me when I walked in and they were not busy. When she transitioned from front desk to nail tech, I was sitting right behind her and she shoved her chair back so hard at one point she knocked my belongings over. Not coming back. read more

I do not like this place! I bought 2 Groupons not knowing how horrible the service is. The first time I visited, the nail tech cut the hell out of 2 cuticles. I was irritated because it STUNG like crazy. She put some kind of "ointment" over the bleeding spots that made them burn even more. She apologized but that was just freaking careless. One of the ladies at the front desk is really arrogant and rude. When I arrived and signed my name, a feather from my glove fell on the counter...she brushed it off the counter with utter disgust. Wow, really??? Rude. If the work wasn't so shoddy, I might overlook the rudeness of the front desk staff, but the nail techs suck so why waste my money. I wont be back, that's for sure. read more

This was heading towards being a 4, maybe 5 star experience but wasn't. I'm hoping to come back in the future and upgrade, but not if today's experience was repeated. I had an 11 AM appointment. I walked in, on time, just after another girl (I don't know if she had an appt). She was immediately started on - it took them 5 minutes just to notice me. All of the technicians were busy, so someone started some water for me and I soaked an extra 10 minutes. That's not such a problem. The pedicure was great. On to the manicure... In the middle of my manicure (and at the end of hers) the girl at the table next to me asks if she can get her eyebrows waxed right now. So my manicurist GOT UP AND LEFT ME SOAKING MY HANDS FOR 15 MINUTES while she waxed this girl's eyebrows. Excuse me?? Shouldn't she have been the one who had to wait? The rest of the experience was ok, but that left a bad bad taste. The manicurist didn't even apologize. Anyway, my nails look great and it should have been a good experience. Against my better judgment, I bought a groupon a few weeks ago and decided to save it for my birthday. MISTAKE! The pedicure was rushed (less than 30 minutes) and the girl that did my manicure spent more time running around and answering the phone than she did on my nails. Furthermore, my nails were cut and filed crooked! Imagine my embarrassment when my boyfriend asked me why my nails "looked funny". Plus, the price I paid for the groupon was exactly the same as what I pay for a mani/pedi at FULL PRICE at my normal nail spa, and I get a 45-60 minute pedicure there EVERY TIME! I'm all about trying new places, but this was hands down the biggest disappointment in the 10 years I've been getting my nails done. Earlier this week, my coworker brought me a flyer from when she got a no-chip manicure here. She's already told me great things about this place. I decided I would try them out yesterday because I needed a pedicure badly. Well, not real badly, maybe fake badly... After work, I called beforehand to know when they took the last customer for pedicures and if I could come the same day. I don't frequent the area much but I do remember this spot used to be Ossama's Hair Design MANY years ago. The salon is nice-looking and the staff was pleasant. While I was soaking my feet, the nail tech asked if I wanted something to drink. I took the red wine. (Now I already knew they served this because my coworker told me, so I was actually waiting to be asked.) What I didn't know was they also have free wifi for customers. I seen another patron with a laptop so I asked if they did and they had no issue giving me the password. After awhile of enjoying my service, I requested a manicure as well. The regular mani/pedi deal is $45. I also found out the mani/pedi deal decreases to $35 on Wednesdays. It was no hesitation to get the manicure because the pedicure is $35 alone. The only service that could be pricey is anything no-chip. I'm not a fan of no-chip; tried it only once in my 13 years of getting my nails done. Also, unless it's an 'American manicure', I don't care to have the same nail polish on for more than two weeks. With any product or service you are trying to sell, in any industry, there are many others trying to do the same thing, so customer service and quality is key. Your complimentary extras, as in this instance - the wine, TV, wifi and hot stone massages, gives an additional boost for your brand and keeps people coming back. I don't frequent a nail shop often, maybe every 2 months, but when I did in the past I went to those cheap hole in the wall nail salons on the Southside or some of the few subpar ones in the Loop. For fifteen dollars I decided to spice up my slow afternoon with a manicure. Nothing "no-chip" this time, just a plain-old, straight-up manicure. I walked straight in off the street -no appointment - and was sitting at a manicure station in about 5 minutes (which was perfect, honestly, as I needed at least five minutes to decide on polish color - they have a full wall from which to choose). My manicure-lady was sweet and the process was nice, if standard (I think everyone does the hand massages now - not sure if everyone wraps your hand in a hot towel, though, and that was pretty blissy). Basically, manicure-lady just let me zone out and watch TV while she worked. Very relax-y, and that's what I had wanted. The end result? Definitely not perfect - there are these little air bubble dent thingys (?) on several nails - but surely better than I could have done alone. Plus, I got to watch 1.25 episodes of Sex and the City in the middle of a workday! Pure Rain will likely remain my go-to place. read more

I'm in the group of people that gave this place a try because of a Groupon. I called ahead and made a Saturday appointment with no problem, and I'm glad I did because the place was jamming. There were plenty of nail colors to choose from for my mani/pedi and I was soon handed over to Emma for my pedicure. Here is my breakdown: Pedicure seats: No vibrating massage chairs, just a padded bench. That's a little disappointing since I love a good fake back massage while my tootsies are being pampered. Entertainment: SATC on all tvs, but not so stupid loud that you can't ignore it if you want. Plenty of gossipy rags that you pretend you don't like to read but you immediately grab as soon as you see it. Cleanliness: Everything seemed very clean and there were plenty of staff members walking around taking things back and forth for sterilization. Extras: It's BOYB and someone is there to offer you water, soda or wine. Super nice perk. The actual 'cures: Emma's work on my cuticles, filing, etc. was METICULOUS. She spend boatloads of time making sure I had no hangnails. Then the first coat of polish was put on with such care and such focused attention that I thought this would be longest lasting mani/pedi known to man. However, after leaving and upon inspection, it looks like the second coat and topcoat weren't given as much attention as the first and I got a few teeny tiny chips by the next day. I can usually make a mani last without incident for 4-6 days. By day 3, it was showing some wear. All in all, I'll be back. I may slap on my own topcoat at home next time, but the attention given to me is worth the trip back. And yes, I'll have that glass of wine. read more

I have been to this nail salon several times. They give great service -- wine is an option with your mani and pedi. My nail polish always lasts longer than expected even on natural nails and no gel. I enjoy the spa like feel of the salon along with the comfortable chairs. This nail salon is newly renovated and very clean. I've met the owner several times, she is very friendly and cares about her clients. They do have Wednesday night specials. I would recommend this nail salon, you typically need to make an appointment because they have such great service. read more

I would've kept it, but it was written out of frustration of the service I had received two weeks ago; it was REALLY REALLY bad that I almost decided not to return to them. But that was the work of one technician and not the business overall. The owner, Nadiya, did her absolute best to make it right, offering me a free Manicure that went so well, as usual, minus the bad experience. This is a really great place with an even better No-Chip procedure. The ones I'd get before coming to them would damage the top layer of my nail. I don't have that problem here at Pure Rain. I prefer Lucy to handle my nails, she's personable and has a really warm spirit AND she's puts a lot of effort into making sure your nails are done to perfection. read more

This place saved the day yesterday! I made an appointment to redeem a YouSwoop for a mani/pedi at a different salon, and I received a phone call about an hour before my appointment, letting me know that they were closing early for the day and could no longer keep my appointment. Awesome. I hopped on Yelp, frantically searcing for a salon downtown that wouldn't cost me a fortune, but would make my hands, feet and eyebrows look human again. I called a couple of places, but they were totally booked for the night. I called Pure Rain, and they were happy to take me. This place is very nice! The space is open and I don't feel like I'm constantly bumping into things, like at other salons. They play Sex and the City episodes on the TVs, which is quite fun and relaxing. My mani/pedi was well done. I felt like the technician spent a lot of time making sure that my nails looked just right, and they look really pretty today. My eyebrow wax was quick and painless, and the blonde caterpillars above my eyes actually look like eyebrows now. Mani/pedis are $35 on Monday-Wednesday, and $45 on Thursday-Sunday. They used to be super flexible and eager to provide service. Now, they act like they are doing me a favor by scheduling me and taking my money. I called 1hour before my appointment to see if I could push it back 15 min or later in the evening. "No." They were sooooo busy the entire evening. It was not swamped when I got there at my original time. I had a coupon and asked if I could pay the difference and upgrade my manicure to no chip. "No." I would have to pay for again for a no chip. It doesn't take any more time... Why wouldn't they take my extra money???!!!?? What happened to pleasing the customer? This particular spa gets high marks from me, because the ladies weren't scared of my ticklish, kicky feet. In fact, I didn't get squirmy and giggly until the end. Impeccable job on the polish as well. Like a previous reviewer, I too was treated to the Sex and the City movie while I got one of the most relaxing pedi's ever, in a clean, well-decorated environment. As far as the manicure went, I stupidly bumped one of my nails against a counter and screwed up my nail polish. Liz offered to fix the whole thing, but I told her a touch up would be fine. You can't even tell I messed it up at all! The last thing that makes this salon worthwhile in my book was that they did not try to push additional services on me. Any time I've gone for a similar treatment at a different salon, they're trying to talk me into getting my eyebrows waxed. But not here. And I really appreciated that. I have been living in the south loop for almost 8 years and I have been waiting for a quality nail salon to open up. Pure Rain surpasses all of the nail salons that I have frequented all of these years. The decor is simple yet elegant. The owner put a lot of time and thought into the interior design. For example, there is a striking custom bench that makes up the pedicure spa. The facilities are very clean and their instruments and basins are sterilized and disinfected with care. The best part of the experience was the level of professionalism and quality of the technicians that work there. They are perfectionist and they make sure that your nails are flawless. I took advantage of the $35 grand opening special (mani-pedi) but I will be back for services in the future without the special price because of the obvious high standard of service that this salon upholds. read more

I've been to Pure Rain about six times in the last year or so. I honestly don't know why I keep going back because they never do an exceptional job with my manicure or pedicure. I'm always a little disappointed. I guess it's their prices and location that bring me back - at $15 for a manicure, they're one of the most affordable places near South Loop. They're nice enough to make the experience pleasant, and have a great color selection. I have to echo the reviews of fellow Yelpers -- the ladies seem bored with their jobs and never paint close enough to the cuticle. I had my nails done yesterday, and the top of my nail is clearly visible. I stopped in here on a Friday around 4:30 without an appointment and did not have to wait more than 5 minutes before my name was called. Not only did I receive a fantastic, affordable manicure but they also have wine on hand. Wonderful surprise on a Friday after work! I searched out a new nail salon after the young woman that I really liked at another salon moved on. Pure Rain is a lovely, intimate, sanitary salon. They have a large variety of nail colors to choose from. I was able to get a same day appointment on a Wednesday afternoon. I chose to get a No-chip manicure and a spa pedicure which cost $80. Now, aside from being a bit of a snob about my manicure, I also feel quite strongly about ambiance when I'm spending nearly $100 including tip. That being said I have had the same services for considerably less and been just slightly more impressed. If you're not bound by a budget and not as persnickety about your manicure you will absolutely love this place. By the way the wine service definitely advances the experience! read more

Everyone I encountered, from the reception till end was really nice and pleasant. The lady that did my nails did an amazing job and was really detail oriented which is so rare! I ventured over to Pure Rain after a particularly hard Tuesday at work... you know how it is post-Holidays. It's as if your body suddenly rejects doing work, depression and misery ensue. First, this little salon is adorable inside! And BYOB! Which, lucky for me, I forgot--hence I was able to stay awake and tip an appropriate amount. Rather then pass out from exhaustion and empty my wallet because they provided the only enjoyable moments of my day. I think $35 for a mani/pedi is pretty good for the area, I also thought the service was fantastic. Not rushed, even though we got there only 45 minutes before closing. Best place to get mani and pedi in the city. They use collagen gloves for the gel manicure which is protect from uv light and mousturize the hand as well. Quality is good, staffs are friendly and the best thing is they offer tea and wine fun environment whether you're in with your friends or by urself. I came here for a bikini wax once. I was looking for a new waxing place because I moved, but I do not recommend this place. The woman would blow on the wax if it was too hot, which I don't think is sanitary and I've never seen that at another waxing salon. The room was small and disorganized. It didn't look good, which was a poor first impression. She also waxed over the same areas twice, which is a big no-no if it's not hard wax. When I left, my bikini area was itchy and bumpy. That has never happened to me before, and I have been waxing my bikini area for years. I didn't go back. I give it 2 stars because their nail services are at a low price and they have a clean salon area. I haven't experienced their nail services, so I can't speak to that. It's not the least expensive in the area, but my nails look fantastic and last longer than any other place I've been to. So, clearly worth it. I booked an appointment here with a groupon back in Feb before my trip to Florida. First, props to them for not treating me differently because of the groupon (shouldn't need to say anything, but have been hearing about a lot of businesses that have been crappy to groupon users lately). Second, they played Sex and the City, one of my favorite shows. I've seen them all, but the ones they were playing were ones I hadn't seen in a while, so that was a nice bonus. They offered me something to drink (I had water), which I liked. The salon is clean, the people I spoke with/saw were friendly, and they have great products. I thoroughly enjoyed my pedicure, but the manicure was iffy. My only issue with my experience was my nail tech cutting the heck out of my cuticles during my manicure. They looked fine right after, but a few days later my cuticles looked awful. I rarely get manicures because they chip usually that day, but this one lasted a full day and a half before any chipping whatsoever, which is a record for me. My pedicure was great. It lasted a few weeks, which is what I like. I've been to other cheaper nail salons and had it last less than a week (which I think was based on their finishing product, the only difference between them and the fancy place I used to frequent), but they must have awesome finishing products because it lasted two weeks with minimal peeling, save for my big toes because I stupidly wore the wrong shoes to the salon. The problem with business and groupons is that most people seem to want to go pretty much right away. I like to save my groupons for at least a month after issue because I know the salon will be busy then, and that I'll get a more relaxed experience (read: nobody rushes me) if I wait. That seems to be the case for pretty much anywhere that has groupons. If you want the most out of your groupon for Pure Rain, go when they're not going to be busy. An off hour during the week is a great time, and don't save it until the last minute. They'll be super busy then too, accommodating all those who forgot they purchased it. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again if I'm in the area. read more

Not really sure about my take on this place because I was only there for a short time. I walked in and was able to get a quick brow wax immediately, which was awesome. The thing that bothered me was cleanliness. I was brought back to the wax room where someone had obviously just been laying - the disposable paper table cover was still crumpled on the table, over a stained blanket - and I was told to go ahead and lie down. I asked the lady politely to change the paper, and she looked at me like I was from Mars before complying, saying she'd never been told to do so in the past. Considering that the point of the paper was to ensure that people didn't have to sit on other people's funk (especially if they're getting something more intimate waxed and have their pants off), I found that a bit odd. That incident aside, the service was fast and well done, and the price wasn't terrible. What really got me over the cringe factor of the paper thing is the fact that the rest of the place was clean, and it was only about 1/2 a block from my work. I would also like to try out the 'byob' manicures/pedicures; having some beers while getting the toes done with friends after work sounds kind of nice. I'm sure there will be a more positive update later, judging by the other reviews on here - I may have had the odd one-off my first time. Despite the two star initial review, I will give this spot a second chance to see. read more
