A few weeks ago, My boyfriend and I took a trip to Laguna Beach. I decided it was time to lose my jet-ski-virginity and what better place than the sunny warm beaches of LA? :-) After browsing through many sites, we headed to Dana Point. The water was freezing that day. So I ended up getting the wetsuit for an extra 10 bucks. It's hard to find wetsuits that fit me well because of my breast but they found the perfect one for me. The service was extremely fast and they were super friendly. After a 10 minute brief introduction on how to use the jet ski we were right on our way. Their jet ski price is $95 an hour before 12pm and $110 after 12pm , but they were generous enough to waive the extra fee . My only bad experience was seeing the sea lions, there were so many of them. They were just floating around the dock and all over the ocean, they were just huge. Overall, I had a great experience here. Please note; there is no supervision here. Once you go on the jet ski you are on your own. They helped get me setup the first time explaining how to use the pedal drives and properly get it in and out of the water without damaging the rudder or pedal drives. Isabelle the young girl at the front desk was very rude and unprofessional with a terrible attitude, almost as if doing business with them was inconvenient. She also wore her mask under her chin while she spoke to us, completely pointless to have on at all. The older man named Guy who was handing out life jackets also had an awful attitude, upset at all of our questions, throwing life jackets on the counter and slamming the oars down, again like our desire to do business with them was an inconvenience. Very rude for no reason multiple times and largely turned us off to ever utilizing this business again. Nothing was wrong with the jet skis or kayaks though, and the dock boys were very nice. read more

Not safe to enter! We ended up having to leave with two disappointed kids. One girl behind the desk was not wearing a mask. The other girl had hers hanging below her chin. The customers were not wearing masks and piling into the store close together. I called and asked if they could help us out of the side door and after much back and forth, she finally agreed. But ultimately, we had to boycott this business on principle. There is considerable research that Coronavirus accumulates via breath in enclosed spaces and this place is not taking anything seriously. I don't usually share my bad experiences however this one was such a waste of time and money for us. Customer service is below 0. We had a reservation for 1:30 which we made a day before, paid beforehand. We got to our appointment on time, checked in got to the deck waited for 6 people from our group of 1:30 to be seated when we were told they are overbooked and can't accommodate us. And only because we didnt ho ahead of the group my husband and I were not seated. We tried to solve this with the customer rep however there was no support even when we told them we drove for an hour and a half from LA just for the jetski. They started calling other people to cancel however did not show us any support except for the refund. Can they refund for our wasted time which was an hour and a half on the road and an hour and a half waiting for them to sit us on a jetski?!?!?TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. I am so sorry that this could have been a great business and entertainment but instead their customer service ruined our day. Things happen, jet skis get damaged however you shouldnt wait for the customer to drive all the way to cancel or if you did then make sure to take care of them. read more

Not considerate and confusing and overcharge you on their own miscommunications between their staff. We brought our own stand up paddle board but forgot our paddle at home. We walked in asking them if we can rent a paddle for the stand up paddle we brought they said no we have for purchase only and they were all $100+. We wanted to paddle board still since that's why we came to Dana point so we asked if we can rent one for an hour, they said yes we paid the price ect. They gave us 2 paddles knowing it was two people, we confirmed with them that we can use both. As they helped us load, we even told the guys helping us that we rented one and have our other own personal paddle board that we are going to meet in the water to paddle board together. They said no problem saw me go into the water to paddle and my friend keep the paddle to join me in the water on his own personal paddle board. About 25 mins into the rental, they call him rudely saying he needs to immediately return the paddle. Why didn't they make this clear when we were leaving the dock? Why didn't they say address their rules, regulations, insurance policy, ect? Then us trying to be considerate rushed back didn't even finish our 1 hour paddle board rental, returned everything & they proceeded to charge my friend for another paddle board rental session even though we only rented one paddle board. (Be careful because they may overcharge you) If we would have been aware that that was prohibited or was an additional charge we would haven't done that. We had fun on the jet skis and appreciated the free parking but be warned...not all employees wear face masks and/or practice social distancing. They don't enforce these mandatory safety measures on guests either so we felt very uncomfortable walking past groups of people with no masks or having an employee without a mask help us out on the jet ski. Is that too much to ask for the sake of everyone's health and safety? We specifically chose this outdoor activity because it was low risk of exposure as far as COVID goes but sorry, I can't recommend the business unless you try to keep everyone safe. read more

We put a lot of research into durable purchases like this and all that data and shopping experience eventually took us to Dana Point Jet Ski. We live in Newport Beach and there are much closer Hobie dealers, but after our experience working with Michelle in the weeks running up to our purchase, we decided DPJS was worth the drive. The entire staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive. Their selection of equipment and Hobie brand accessories couldn't be beat. We purchased the 2015 Hobie Mirage Oasis Tandem kayak and they installed the turbo fins for us in minutes so we could get right out on the water. They offer demos and Dana Point Harbor is a great testing ground. We're even storing our kayak there while waiting for dock space in Newport. We just wish they had a Newport Store! Their secure storage facility and awesome valet service can't be beat! If you're in Southern California and looking to get a top notch kayak, you can't do better than a Hobie from Dana Point Jet Ski. Worse crew and jet ski experience ever. You will be yelled at, cussed at and disrespected if you question anything by the OWNER (A total Jerk). You will also pay for things that you should not pay for (like sea weed) given that they don't show you if the jet ski is clear from sea weed from start with. We had rented 9 jet skies total. Mine over heated after 10 minutes of riding and I needed to be pulled back to the dock. The state life guards and OC Sheriff rescued me and my daughters and assessed the jet ski and told me sea weed was not the issue. Eventually we were pulled back to the dock by a pure water crew member. After 45 min of waiting to get the paper work to check out, RAYA (EXTREMELY RUDE LADY) told us the jet ski over heated due to sea weed and we are responsible to pay for that. When we challenged her conclusion (because she did not check the jet ski) , the OWNER (A TOTAL JERK) yelled at my husband, cussed him, and threatened to call the police. I told him to call the police because they were actually the ones who initially rescued me. When they noticed they aggression and attempt to intimidate us didn't work, he lifted the jet ski and did not find sea weed. The jet ski over heated due to poor maintenance. This is a very very shortened story of the 45 minutes of waiting in the Sun for them to finalize their assessment. Overall experience: Me and my daughters only rode for 10 min and we haven't received the "prorated" refund yet. We were given an initial fake assessment that would have cost us $135 and when we challenged it , we were verbally assaulted by the owner. My nephew's jet ski's battery died after 10 minutes and he needed to be pulled back to the dock. My sister in law had to pay $135 because there was sea weed in her jet ski , given that we were told the $135 is a rescue charge! Highly recommend finding a different location for jet sky rentals and know what you will pay for upfront. read more

We reserved 2 kayaks for 1 hour then I was concerned we might go over 1 hour and get charged an extra fee, so before taking the boats out I went back and asked them what is the rule if I go over is there going to be a penalty? The girl said to return it as close to the agreed time as possible. I talked to my partner and we agreed we'd be out for likely 70 minutes, so i went back to tell the girl so she can add an extra hour. After paddling for 60 minutes, and 5 minutes to check in our gear, I told them we'd only had them for an hour as originally explained ,and the same girl said no there are no refunds. I then said, can you give me a credit for next time or tell me where in the contract it states this,and they said no I was never given a copy of the contract and no receipt. We rented kayaks here a couple weekends ago. The staff is friendly and the process is quick and easy. By the time we got our actual kayak's it was 20 mins after we paid, however the time doesn't start until you get your kayak. Some places start the time from the time you pay. The only thing I didn't like is that all the boats , jet ski's and other water activity things go in and out from where you start kayaking. It was a pain trying to kayak out of the main area when every 5 minutes you had a large boat crossing over. read more

We came here for a good 'ol family outing and had a blast. They were out of jet skis by the time we got there (4pm on a Saturday) so definitely reserve in advance, so we went kayaking instead. They helped us out super fast (which was greatly appreciated since we spent 20 minutes waiting at the next door rental place waiting to be helped). There's a guy named...Guy (not even kidding, his shirt says "I'm that guy named Guy" and he wouldn't let my mom call him Sir) and he is the life of this place. Great positive attitude and energy and made us feel super welcome and safe and great and had us all laughing. We rented a tandem and a single kayak and they're really easy to use. An hour was long enough for us, we got tired towards the end. The harbor has lots of places to go and the water is pretty still. There are also sea lions around which was a pretty neat sight. This place also has parking right in front of it which is pretty awesome. Overall, highly recommend! We left a happy family. read more

My husband and I recently visited this shop to discuss a possible Hobie kayak purchase. Reya assisted us and was very informative. We even were able to demo a kayak similar to the one which interested us. We did make the purchase, and Reya again went out of her way to see that we were schooled on the setup and take down specifics, as well as see us off on our maiden voyage. She was extremely patient and made sure any manual settings were where they needed to be and our comfort level was such to keep us safe and secure at entry and exit of the kayak. I have rented from this company before and they were helpful in the past. Taught us how to use the equipment. Even nice on our return time. Today was a different. When I called to get information on their summer prices the person hung up on me and I had to call back. We still decided to go with them. We were able to borrow 2 boards from family but we still need one. The girls that took our information at the front were kind and courteous. There were two younger gentlemen, Evan and Liem who went above and beyond, but there were two older men one in a blue shirt and red hat(found out his name was Tim) and the other in a neon yellow shirt who were both very rude towards me as well as to the group I was with. Tim asked me as I was caring my SUP board with the cover, if it was mine. I told him it was but we had rented one for someone else in our group. He then continued to work on what he was doing. Few minutes later he harshly told me that I would have to take the cover off ba k in the parking lot and carry the board in. I kindly asked if one of the gentlemen that was there could help me. He said no very sharply. I understand if your busy or if it's an insurance thing, but you dont have to be rude. This guy was very grouchy. Not customer friendly. And what I later found out is he is a manager. What upset me even more is once I stumble to the dock with the awkward heavy board, another older man yelled down to Liem on the dock don't help them and pointed towards us. As we returned from our rental time, we asked kindly if we could rinse our boards off or if there was a place near by that we could. The man in the neon yellow shirt said rudely "That's not his job." I didn't ask if he could do it! Uh... Evan over heard and said he could help us. He even asked where we wanted it. The final straw came when I noticed another group on 4 customers were getting help from the staff to carry there equipment to their car. Why did they get help? I was so disappointed in this experience. I do not recommend this place. The rentals in Newport are much more customer friendly and a better price. Especially during the summer and if Tim is the manager on duty. P.S. their boards are all dinged and peeling. I dont think they take good care of them. read more

Called up Dana Point after talking to 2 other rental stores. The immediate difference was that they made us feel valued as guests. We are not experienced riders of wave runners, but do have extensive experience in 3 & 4 wheelers, dirt, and street bikes, though it had been a while. Michelle spent time with us, as did Brent, being sure that we understood EVERYTHING. The equipment looked to be in near new condition, and performed flawlessly. A very disappointing experience From start to finish! Impossible to find location. It is inside a marina basin that is under construction. Absolutely zero signage. Had to ask three construction workers where to go. There was one girl at the counter who was absolutely overwhelmed. The waivers and videos you have to watch to get on these machines is insane. There were three Large groups trying to get down to the dock and it was just so unorganized. The girl behind the counter handed me a credit card slip to sign for $3,000 without explaining to me what it was. It was a waiver in case we crashed the jet skis. Then we had the pleasure of watching a safety video on all the things we could screw up and damage on the jet ski. Once we finally got down to the dock there was literally one poor woman hauling the skis on and off these floating docks. So we stood around for 15 more minutes while she brought people in from the harbor, examined their wave runner, signed them out etc. i asked another worker for help and he literally walked right past me without saying one word. When they finally actually took notice of our group, they went over everything we saw in the video. Again! They explained that we were allowed to ski in this small area right outside the harbor. That's it. Once we got out of the harbor into the sea it was choppy and freezing. My son's wave runner beeped at him the entire time. When we got back, the dock person said it was "just a maintenance warning." I wanted to ask for a refund but that would mean dealing with the front desk again and I was just so over it. The nicest staff with great equipment! We were able to get one jet ski ($135/hr for weekend afternoons) and one two person kayak ($25/hr). They provide life vests and cubbies to keep your stuff as well as putting valuables behind the desk. We kayaked with our 70 lb dog with no issues and swam in the harbor after. If you don't want JAGGED rocks cutting up your feet, don't come here for paddle boarding! First, we had to carry our paddle boards to the beach to launch, and they weigh about 40 lbs so its not easy! Also, the beach where you're supposed to launch is ROCKY and during low tide, you have to make your way across those rocks to attempt to get to deeper water to launch. Despite good rates for everything and friendly workers, I just wish there was a more convenient place to launch from and have an easier transport system. It was only $15/hour for SUP and its the same price for an hour of single kayaks also. read more
