I highly recommend the crema and that's the best drink I have never had so far. I always go there for the cerma, and I like both green and purple kow favor. I'm glad a Purple Kow opened in Berkeley because I always heard the hype over the one in SF, but I never had the chance to go. The first time I went was a random afternoon on a weekday, so there was not much of a line at all. The quality of the milk tea is pretty good considering it has a stronger tea taste than a lot of other places I've tried. Also, their boba is really good. Best boba I've ever had, and I'm not even a big fan of tapioca balls usually. I also think it's a good value for the price because their default size for most of the drinks are the chubby cup that I can never finish on my own. A lot of places I've been to in SD & Irvine charge the same price (or more) for a smaller portion and mediocre boba. So if you're in the area and in the mood for boba, you should give this place a try! read more

Came here on a Saturday morning with 3 others and waited about 10 minutes for drinks. I ordered a green milk tea w/ yakult and it made me question my life choices. The others seemed to enjoyed their drinks, so I'll have to come back and try something else next time. read more

Boba adventure #3: Coming from Irvine where we have Class 302, I was excited when I saw the PurpleKow tub instead of a traditional cup. The interior has spaces of sit and is very trendy and modern. I ordered a roasted Oolong milk tea at full sweetness and little ice to get the full flavor. Sadly, the tea was very watery and the boba was soggy instead of chewy. Great boba place! Definitely recommend and I'm a huge fan. They have several different types of drinks to choose from, their cups are enormous, and their prices are comparable with the other boba shops. We ordered the standard black tea with milk and boba (B1?); and the caramel pudding drink (D1?). Anyway, they're located next to top dog in a cute part of downtown berkeley. Parking's not the best and even though we missed standing in line, a line quickly formed with people standing outside. I haven't found a better place than Purple Kow for my boba fix but I'm sure there's one out there so I'm giving myself some room by giving PK a 4 star review. I've been to the location in San Francisco a lot and was expecting some base level of similarity to that location when I got my usual order (iced milk with caramel, pudding, and boba & half sweet). To my surprise, what I got here was almost nothing like I would have gotten at the San Francisco location. Half sweet was still way too sweet--my teeth hurt just thinking about what full sweet would have tasted like. The milk was super thick and foamy--I think heavy cream was added as a filler. Needless to say, I'm pretty disappointed. This location isn't terrible, but it's really not great either. read more

My first experience wasn't so amazing. The area was pretty crowded and the line was long, though it went by quickly. Also, there were a bunch of kids outside in the front who were dancing and even went inside and never even bought anything. It wasn't Purple Kow's fault but I was bothered by it because they were in the way when people were exiting. Aside from that, I ordered a regular peach oolong tea with fresh sliced mango in it. I replaced the grass jelly with boba and requested to have no ice. The cashier wasn't very enthusiastic but wasn't rude either. Oh, apprently it's a 50¢ extra charge to have no ice in your drink. Minus one star for that because it's an unreasonable extra charge in my opinion. The portion of the "regular" drink is very big and for a decent price, which I loved. The drink was also decent, nothing spectacular. I recommend this place if you're in Berkeley and are craving boba (and want a lot of it). The drink was literally a meal to me, lol. the boba is great. the regular amount of sweetness is a little too sweet for people who can't handle that kind of thing. there is always a decently sized line every time i've been there. i always get the d3 (ice, milk, boba, pudding, and caramel) and i definitely recommend it. (note: there is on tea in it though). they've run out of boba or milk a couple of times and the wait for them to make new boba is a little under 30 minutes. they aren't opened on weekends or after 5pm on weekdays yet, but hopefully that'll change soon. read more

The teas are fine (especially if you ask for one of the less sweet options) but the service is not. Drinks take a long time to be filled in comparison to other nearby milk tea places, they're significantly more expensive, and the orders are often served incorrectly. The last time I went to Purple Kow, I asked for a non-milk-based drink in particular (lactose intolerance) and instead was given the milk tea version with the wrong toppings. When I asked for my order to be corrected, they returned the same drink to me and only fixed the toppings. While I was waiting, another customer came back to the store to complain about a similar problem. This location certainly does not live up to the reputation of it's SF counterpart. read more

Seeing there was no line at the counter as I passed by on my way to the stadium, I decided to stop by. Of the rare times I deviate from my usual 3 selections for tea, this one was a fail. It was not as sweet as I would have liked it to be. I forgot what it was I had but it was one of the items on their popular list advertised around the store. The huge cup trend that is going around is also not my favorite either. It's a bit hard to hold with my little hands and turned out to be way too much for me as I tried to quickly gulp the entire thing down before entering Memorial statudim... Their boba has the best texture. The Berkeley location line is way shorter than the SF. My favorite drink is D4 with half the sugar.

While the drinks are cool and different the customer service is atrocious. Ordered 2 drinks and an order of cheese sticks. The drinks were made in a timely manner however the order of cheese sticks took 30 minutes. Not because they are amazing but because the person behind the counter failed to put the order in even after I asked multiple times. To top it off the manager couldn't be bothered to discuss the issue. read more

My first time trying Purple Kow was a "mehh" experience compared to what everyone was raving about. It was a cute little spot and the cashier was pleasant. I ordered the Jasmine Milk Tea and it was VERY bitter, probably the most bitter jasmine MT I've ever tasted. They completely overdosed it with strong jasmine tea so even if it was fragrant, I wasn't able to enjoy my beverage because it tasted more like Chinese herbal meds. read more

Worst service ever. I came all the way from Sacramento and right when I walked in they said they were closed but had their door open still. One of the girls there were rude about it. I even called on the phone and told them that I was 20 mins away coming from Sacramento and if they could possibly hold just two drinks for me but said no and just hung up without any explanation. If you want to keep your customers coming back you serve until the last person is out. If not then close your door when youre suppose to. read more
