Sakura Oolong Milk Tea (Add Boba)
    Kyra K.

My cousin and I enjoy trying different boba shops whenever we hang out. Nomi Tea is relatively close to my house, yet I never felt drawn to go. We decided to try it and though it's not my favorite, it's nice to know there's a spot in Albany for a decent boba fix! The tea shop is well sized with several tables to sip and talk at. The inside is spacious and modern with minimal decorations. I found the service to be fine but not anything special. You order at the counter, they prepare your drink, and you enjoy! Being a tea shop they offer a plethora of milk tea, fruit tea, slushies, and so forth. Ice and sugar levels can be adjusted and dairy alternatives are available. I had the Sakura Oolong Milk Tea with less sugar and ice. Even though I chose a non-dairy creamer I felt that it was pretty watered down. There wasn't much Sakura or oolong flavor to it which was quite disappointing. My cousin has the Peach Oolong Milk Tea and I enjoyed hers more. If you're walking around Albany and want to support local, Nomi Tea is a quaint spot to grab boba. Find them off Solano Ave. with street and neighborhood parking. I prefer going to Berkeley for my boba fix but I am glad to try a different spot.

Really creative drinks! I tried the banana milk and the peach oolong which tastes just like the Molly tea in San Jose.

I found this place while walking down Solano Avenue and stopped by to try. I saw a unique "Sakura oolong milk tea" and was intrigued so I ordered it. It is comparable to a rose milk tea but more subtle taste and their boba was soft and chewy. The interior could use a little sprucing up, the store looked fairly new. I'd definitely recommend a good spot for a photo op or selfies!

Was craving iced tea + boba after a walk through of the lovely Berkeley Rose Garden, so we stoped here on the way back to the freeway toward home. The tea seems standard, but I'm giving this place 5 stars for customer service. They are still requiring online orders only and pickup at the door only, no entry to the restaurant (Covid precautions). Given that fact, we made a mistake when placing our order on the mobile website and didn't realize until we received our drinks. Despite the fact that the order error was our own fault, they offered to remake our drinks correctly, all for free. To top off the top notch experience, the my drink satisfied my craving perfectly. I love that this place offers dairy milk alternatives, as I'm lactose intolerant. Normally, tea shops make their standard 100% sugar drinks too sweet for my taste, and I order 50%. Nomi tea's menu is very clear that they suggest ordering 100% sweetness if it is your first time there. We ordered 50% and honestly it was 50% less sweet than what I was expecting. It was still delicious, but if you like your tea sweet, take the menu recommendation and don't order less than 100%!

Unfortunately I only came to know Nomi Tea after COVID rekt their community events. Bummer! Online order via QR code only. For COVID safety purposes, masks are required and their entire shop is pickup only. Quick service-- usually done in 10 min. Expect to congregate awkwardly on the corner of Solano with other customers (though I have pet many a dog during my waits here) Most drinks I've had here are alright. PRO: really sturdy, translucent cups. CON(s): Their teas do taste watered-down & the boba is gummy. Even without adjustments, their drinks have only the slightest hint of tea and just a Lot. Of. Sugar/Flavoring. Ack! Since I live so close, I keep wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt and trying different adjustments with my orders-- but I'm underwhelmed every time. Oh well. I wonder if their function as a small event venue previously absolved them of their boba shortcomings........

Passion Fruit Green Tea w/ boba

Having heard about the great boba shortage of 2021, I was determined to go get some myself as I have not had a chance to indulge in any for almost 2 months. Since I live in an area devoid of good boba establishments, I was pleasantly surprised to find on Yelp a place just 10mins away from me, saving me my usual trip to Berkeley. I placed my order online through Nomi's website, and was pleasantly pleased by their diverse options to choose from. There are plenty of free parking spots directly on Solano Ave, as well as plenty of parking off into the residential areas nearby as well. Order was ready and waiting for me by the time I arrived. And I simply needed to flag down one of the employees in the back to grab it for me as they don't appear to park anyone at the entrance. Ordered my usual Passionfruit Green Tea w/ boba. It was very delicious, and not too sweet or watered down like I find in some other places. I especially like the nice re-usuable cup that the boba came in, which was definitely of a higher quality than many of the flimsy re-usuable cups I get at other places.

Spacious interior if you ever want to stop by for boba with friends or family. I ordered online -- Sakura oolong and the super fruit tea. Fruits added in the fruit tea was fresh. I personally like stronger tea flavors and both miss that mark for me. Boba was slightly on the softer side.

The front of the store looks really cute

Let me say this first...... if you don't have internet access, you can't order at this time Due to the pandemic, they only accept online ordering. So you put in your order first, they send you a text message to confirm and you wait for another text so you can go pick up your order. I find it very convenient to order online which you can choose sweetness and how much ice. I believe some of the items you can even choose dairy or non-dairy creamer for your drinks. They also suggest that if this is your first time, try their regular sweetness first then make adjustment later. I also LOVE their cup. The stopper is so cute and there is a place where you can put it when you want to drink ...... look at my pictures and you will know what I am talking about . Yesssssss I enjoyed taking the picture so much. So much that after I started driving and drinking, I felt weird ..... how come this time I am drinking boba tea different then other times???!!!??? Oh my I forgot to grab a straw!!!! Distraction distraction......... Had to save the tea home so I could use a spoon to scoop the tapioca Forgot to mention rose tapioca milk tea tasted great and the tapioca didn't get hard after being refrigerate. Well it was huge so I couldn't finish it.

They have a good Jasmine milk tea with boba. Boba is very soft. Tea is yummy. I recommend 50% sugar, regular ice, and almond milk.

They did not text or call when my order was ready :(

Ask the Community - Nomi Tea

Most non-dairy creamers have lactose and some boba preparations use honey. Is this the case for ingredients at Nomi Tea? If so, do you offer a way to order a vegan milk tea at your shop?

Hi Tonya, the non-dairy creamer we use does not contain lactose. We use strictly brown sugar when preparing our boba so there is no honey. We does offer almond milk as a vegan milk option. Many of our drink options are vegan friendly so I’m sure…

Can you tell me what the mikrokosmos is?

Mikrokosmos is basically Lemon Lime Spritzer topped with a layer of natural purple coloring so it looks very pretty like the cosmos. Purple is primary color for the Korean pop group BTS and Mikrokosmos is the name of one of their songs.

Is it fresh brewed teas or from powder?

    Fresh

Do they have almond milk or coconut milk?

We have Organic unsweetened Almond Milk.

How much sugar is in the watermelon green tea drink?

We can adjust sugar level from 0 to 100 or even over 100 depending on your taste preference.

That, however, shouldn't detract from the personalized experience you'd likely receive with how small the coffee bar is. If you're expecting something more permanent this coffee shop is more like a temporary coffee cart that has roots in the back corner of this gift shop On the whole this place despite the hidden location has folks very much eager to bring specialty coffee to anybody interested. They have a large selection of relatively high end coffee in the likes of Geisha from Panama and Ethiopian coffees. Additionally, they're the only place I've ever seen across the US that is showcasing any coffee grown in China which is nice to see as that allows more exploration into how the terroir affects the taste of coffee For my first time here I came with a small group of coffee enthusiasts so we tried a selection of their Alo Main Station (notes of Sweet Orange, Bergamont, and Peach Oolong Tea), Finca Santa Maria (notes of Cherry, Mango, and Berry Jam), and Lerida Loma Washed (notes of White Floral, Mandarin Orange, and Longan) Each cup was uniquely different from each other but arguably the most enjoyed was their cheapest option in the Alo Main Station at $9. Each cup seemed completely different and may seem pretentious to say but they did have sweeter notes that you'd be very unlikely to taste from your well known coffee chains. This place definitely caters to the coffee enthusiasts in a way where even my group wasn't quite near the level of but it had a great atmosphere, nice outdoor seating, and staff who were very passionate about their craft If anything, I would probably come back as they do elevate coffee for those who are unaware of coffee coming from China but that coffee doesn't need to taste bitter, burnt, or chocolatey. The cups here were more like tasting a mellowed fruit juice but it just happens to be coffee. That said, unless you are eager to try specialty coffee this place may seem overpriced as their pour overs are between $9 - $25 which heavily differs from most other coffee shops. Having Masterpiece provide a glimpse of the specialty coffee scene within the Bay Area is still a welcome blessing as it has a similar vibe to specialty coffee shops you'd experience in Asia

Rich, flaky, and indulgent. Almond Croissant -- Another delicious contender. Nutty, sweet, and absolutely worth it. Apricot Croissant -- Not bad at all. Hello, my fellow café junkies…read more I LOVE little cafés. I will happily spend my hard-earned money on an overpriced chai latte while sitting somewhere cute pretending I have my life together. So when I say I'm definitely not coming back here, just know it pains my café-loving heart. First, let me give credit where credit is due: the atmosphere is GREAT. Super cute. Super cool. Great little hidden spot. The service, however? SucKs--with a capital K. ‍ Here's how my first--and probably last--visit went: 1. We ordered THREE chai lattes: two hot chai lattes and one iced chai latte with oat milk. Pretty straightforward. Nobody was ordering a 14-step potion from Hogwarts. 2. We received only two drinks. So, channeling my inner Karen from Boyle Heights, I politely went back and said, "Excuse me, we ordered THREE chai lattes." 3. They told me they hadn't charged me for the third drink. Okay! No problem. I work my ass off. I don't mind spending money. Charge me, hermana. Let's get this chai flowing. 4. I took a sip of my supposedly hot chai latte and immediately my taste buds sounded the emergency alarm: NOPE. THAT'S COFFEE. 5. I looked at my husband suspiciously and asked, "Is yours chai or coffee?" He took his first sip and said, "This is coffee." At this point, the chai lattes had apparently entered the Witness Protection Program because nobody could find them. 6. I went back. To their credit, they were perfectly willing to remake the drinks. Thank you! And when we finally received the two hot chai lattes, they were actually GOOD. Crisis temporarily averted. 7. THEN I looked over at my friend holding the supposedly iced chai latte with oat milk and thought, Wait a minute... "Taste yours." He takes a sip. "This is coffee." GIRL. THREE chai lattes ordered. THREE chai lattes misunderstood. At that point, I wasn't ordering beverages anymore. I was participating in a listening-comprehension assessment. ‍ The person taking our order seemed rushed, distracted, and all over the place. And listen--mistakes happen. I teach for a living. I have patience. But when every single drink in one order is wrong, we've moved beyond "oops" and entered performance art. No manchen--venimos a gastar, no a pendejear. ‍ So here's my recommendation: If you're particular about actually receiving the beverage you ordered, you may want to try another café. Or, if this place has an app, USE THE APP. Let technology translate "chai latte" into "chai latte" because apparently the spoken version is giving everybody trouble. Better yet, buy your drinks somewhere else and bring them here. Then you can enjoy the cute atmosphere without participating in Chai Latte Roulette: Will It Be Chai? Will It Be Coffee? Nobody Knows! The place is called Hidden Café, and after today's experience... I can see why it's hidden. Cute environment? Absolutely. Would I trust them with another three-chai-latte mission? Esta mamona la cosa. Hard pass. ‍ Come for the atmosphere. Bring your own drink. And may the odds of receiving what you ordered be ever in your favor. Signed, A recovering Chicana Karen from Boyle Heights who just wanted her damn chai.
