I really appreciate the warm welcoming decor, as opposed to some of the trendy place with bright lights. This place has warm colors that makes you want to sit down and stay awhile, which is exactly what my family did during our last visit. We came in the afternoon on a Sunday so it was not very busy at all. One of the major "cons" I have about this place is the size/shape of the boba drink containers. It has such a wide base that the cups cannot fit into any standard car cup holder. You are left with the choice of either trying to guzzle everything at the store or not open your drink at all until you get home or where you are trying to go. Usually we love this place but have noticed a recent decline in quality. We got a drink yesterday around 4pm and the boba was hard as rocks, there was about 25% sugar in the drink compared to normal without us lowering the sugar amount. It was just plain and old tasting. Honestly, this is hands down the best boba shop I have ever visited. I will admit I do not drink boba very often, but I know what I like when it comes to flavors, and Purple Kow really impressed me. We ordered the Sweet Potato Fries, Taro Iced Tea, D3, and the Tobago Wings. One of the most underrated aspects of food is texture, and both the wings and fries nailed it. The Tobago Wings were juicy and tender on the inside with a perfectly crisp exterior that had a satisfying crunch. The sweet potato fries were a standout as well. Since they are usually hard to get crispy because of their high moisture content, Purple Kow coats them in a light layer of tempura batter, which makes all the difference. Be sure to try them with the plum powder seasoning. The salty-sweet combination on each crispy fry is absolutely addictive. And that was just the food. The drinks were equally impressive. We always try taro drinks at boba shops but usually find they are made with artificial ingredients that are overly sweet. Purple Kow uses real taro, and it shows. The flavor was rich, creamy, and not cloying. The staff let us know that their drinks run sweeter than most shops, so we went with 25 percent sweetness, and it was perfect, especially if you do not have a big sweet tooth. The food is always "pho"nominal. Drinks are always perfect and consistent and the service is always great. The music and slow jam ambience is the perfect mix of chill and cool. Every time I come in it's always good vibes. I recently tried their special beef rib pho after I heard about their pho pop up and it was so good, the broth was clean and flavorful, the beef rib was fall off the bone tender and the noodles had a perfect bite to it that every pho needs, I paired it with the Che milk drink which was tropical refreshing and delicious. I'm so glad Purple Kow finally opened out here! I used to go to the one in San Francisco and always wished more boba spots would offer iced milk like they do, so this location was a big win for me! My go to order is the D2 (iced milk with egg pudding and boba). I usually get it 50% sweet in a split cup (extra $1.25), which is perfect for sharing with my daughter. Their "regular" is actually a big chubby cup, so you definitely get your money's worth. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the boba. It's chewy, but a little on the firm side instead of that soft, melt in your mouth texture I prefer. Food wise, their garlic fries are a must. They're thick, crispy, and come with ranch on the side. The popcorn chicken is huge, more like nugget or wing sized pieces. Some people might love that, but I personally prefer smaller bite sized ones. Overall, if you haven't tried this place yet, I'd highly recommend their iced milk. So happy they opened in roseville! My bf and I used to go to the purple kow in concord, but now that it has opened near us, ill stop by whenever I can! Our favorite drink is D3 with caramel, pudding and boba. We would usually get no boba, and opt for extra pudding instead. I would say their boba is OK, pretty standard from most boba locations, and nothing special. But their milk? Idk how they make it or what they put in it but it is so addicting!!! If you are watching your sugar intake or worry about your drink being too sweet, I recommend 25% sugar level. My favorites so far are D7 (Chocolate, Pudding, and Boba) and Taro Iced Milk. For the lactose intolerant, I suggest F2 Peach QQ, which is Peach Green Tea with Boba, Lychee Jelly, and Peach Bits. For the milk teas, you can substitute Oat Milk for the organic milk.
