I'm originally from the bay, and moved out here to the Placer county region. It was hard to find a good boba spot that met my expectations after regularly getting drinks from some of the best boba shops ever out in San Jose, CA. This is my absolute go-to boba shop out here! I don't even waste my time and money trying those other spots that try to look aesthetic or cute, because most times their milk teas just taste like they were made from a powder base. Purple Kow uses fresh milks and good brews. The drink I always get (and love) from here is the oolong milk tea with boba! Was in the area and decided to stop by. Ordered 3 drinks- mango moo moo, lychee green tea with boba, & a D3 with caramel and pudding. All drinks were very good, not too sweet (although I like my drinks a little bit sweeter) but it was perfect. Love how their bigger size is huge! More drink and boba for the road! Also got an order of plain fries for my toddler. Their pho is new so we got 2 orders- a build your own with beef ball and rare steak, and a combo pho. Both were very good. Came with a side plate of bean sprout, jalapeño, basil and hoisin/siracha. Wish there was chili oil and lime too. Overall it filled us up, noodles and broth were gone. Service was superb. Came on a slow Saturday so was expecting a bit faster service, but oh well. Parking is adequate. Ambiance is cool, the inside seems like a fun place to socialize with friends (lots of seating and open space). Drinks wise, when I went they were "sold out" on the D-series drinks and a couple other drinks, which was a bummer because they sounded appetizing and I settled with other drinks available on the menu. My order: * Passion Fruit QQ 50% sugar. Boba was very chewy and nice. Sugar level is more sweet than I expected. I enjoyed it. * Toffee QQ 25% sugar (sub oat milk). Not a good choice to go 25% sweetness because it was pretty undrinkable. The QQ series advertised to come with honey boba and crystal boba. I had also ordered additional grass jelly but upon realization, the drink only came with one of three toppings. There is an upcharge for topping ($0.95) so that was kind of upsetting. The food is always "pho"nominal. Drinks are always perfect and consistent and the service is always great. The music and slow jam ambience is the perfect mix of chill and cool. Every time I come in it's always good vibes. I recently tried their special beef rib pho after I heard about their pho pop up and it was so good, the broth was clean and flavorful, the beef rib was fall off the bone tender and the noodles had a perfect bite to it that every pho needs, I paired it with the Che milk drink which was tropical refreshing and delicious. On our way back from Tahoe, I found myself missing a little taste of the Bay, so we made a stop at Purple Kow and it absolutely hit the spot. I ordered the D3, which is ice milk with boba and grass jelly, at 0% sugar, and it was so refreshing and perfectly balanced. Creamy without being heavy, and the toppings added just the right texture. I also got the Chè Ice Milk at 25% sugar, which was equally satisfying--lightly sweet, nostalgic, and exactly what I was craving. We ordered the Sweet Potato Fries, Taro Iced Tea, D3, and the Tobago Wings. One of the most underrated aspects of food is texture, and both the wings and fries nailed it. The Tobago Wings were juicy and tender on the inside with a perfectly crisp exterior that had a satisfying crunch. The sweet potato fries were a standout as well. Since they are usually hard to get crispy because of their high moisture content, Purple Kow coats them in a light layer of tempura batter, which makes all the difference. Be sure to try them with the plum powder seasoning. The salty-sweet combination on each crispy fry is absolutely addictive. And that was just the food. The drinks were equally impressive. We always try taro drinks at boba shops but usually find they are made with artificial ingredients that are overly sweet. Purple Kow uses real taro, and it shows. The flavor was rich, creamy, and not cloying. The staff let us know that their drinks run sweeter than most shops, so we went with 25 percent sweetness, and it was perfect, especially if you do not have a big sweet tooth. I'm so glad Purple Kow finally opened out here! I used to go to the one in San Francisco and always wished more boba spots would offer iced milk like they do, so this location was a big win for me! My go to order is the D2 (iced milk with egg pudding and boba). I usually get it 50% sweet in a split cup (extra $1.25), which is perfect for sharing with my daughter. Their "regular" is actually a big chubby cup, so you definitely get your money's worth. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the boba. It's chewy, but a little on the firm side instead of that soft, melt in your mouth texture I prefer. Food wise, their garlic fries are a must. They're thick, crispy, and come with ranch on the side. The popcorn chicken is huge, more like nugget or wing sized pieces. Some people might love that, but I personally prefer smaller bite sized ones. Overall, if you haven't tried this place yet, I'd highly recommend their iced milk. We were introduced to this spot through a Yelp experience & enjoyed it enough to return. It's a cute, colorful, comfortable place with contemporary seating & decor inside. Outside in front, there are a few metal tables & chairs. We've been here on a weekday with only a few customers ordering at the counter, & also on a busy Saturday at 5p when it's been full inside with a line for the order screen. The staff is friendly & helpful. We're always greeted as soon as we enter. There is a large variety of tasty sounding flavor combos on the drinks menu & you can customize the levels of sweetness & ice. We like the D8 (chocolate flavored iced milk with pudding and boba) with 50% sweetness & less ice. It doesn't have a strong chocolate flavor, but it's yummy & tastes like melted ice cream. The boba texture is not my personal preference, a little too chewy at times, but still good. The pudding is silky soft. We've also gotten a Strawberry Slush for little one that was refreshing with the taste of fresh strawberry & still quite sweet even at 50% sweetness. Previously I had the F7 (Peach Oolong Tea Infused with Mango, Topped Green Tea Jelly & Mango Bits) at 50% sweetness, which was refreshing & good, but I would get 25% next time. We also tried the Salt & Pepper Chicken Nuggets, which we enjoyed. The bucket containers for food are too cute. We were greeted immediately upon entrance (which I really appreciated). It's clean here with a simple decor. There is a counter you can order in person or use the kiosk on your own. There was a snack portion also, but we just opt for the drinks this time around, since we had already ate elsewhere prior. The boba was chewy and the drinks were flavorful. I was surprised how the milk tea tasted like vanilla ice cream (my 3 year old approved lol). They're even kind enough to offer a sample every time they see us browsing indecisively at the menu lol. I was excited to find out they are dog friendly! I was excited to try it for the first time, but left feeling pretty bummed. Might have just caught them on a bad day, but who knows. The UI on their menu machine is sort of confusing? To get a default version of something, you don't make a selection at all, but it doesn't explain that. No biggie but worth noting. Then we ordered boba, but were told they were out of boba and asked if we would pick another topping instead. At that point, I really just didn't want my drink, but since I'd already paid and didn't have time to go across the street to lazi cow instead, I picked a jelly at random. My sister, who had previously ordered 2 toppings (boba + another) just said she'd stick with her second topping. Which means we did pay an extra dollarish or whatever for an additional topping we never got. This would all have been fine EXCEPT the drinks we got were totally flavorless and not sweet enough at all despite us ordering them at 100% sweetness. What was the point? Our favorite drink is D3 with caramel, pudding and boba. We would usually get no boba, and opt for extra pudding instead. I would say their boba is OK, pretty standard from most boba locations, and nothing special. But their milk? Idk how they make it or what they put in it but it is so addicting!!! If you are watching your sugar intake or worry about your drink being too sweet, I recommend 25% sugar level. My favorites so far are D7 (Chocolate, Pudding, and Boba) and Taro Iced Milk. One of Purple Kow franchise owner Kaylum's favorites is D10 (Pistachio, Matcha Pudding, and Boba). For the lactose intolerant, I suggest F2 Peach QQ, which is Peach Green Tea with Boba, Lychee Jelly, and Peach Bits. For the milk teas, you can substitute Oat Milk for the organic milk. I'm interested in trying the Taro Moo Moo (real taro slush topped with housemade sweetened cream), Black Sesame Iced Milk, and Strawberry Covered Chocolate Iced Milk. My favorite snacks are the Garlic Wings and Passionfruit Buffalo Wings. Garlic Wings are the less expensive option of the two. Wings are fried fresh when you order, so it's a 15 minute wait. Worth it! The 3rd chicken wings flavor option is Tobango Wings, which is sweet, tangy, and a little spicy topped with Tahin. I haven't tried that. The upgraded size is really large and only should be ordered if you are really thirst. it's hard to describe what makes this place unique other than the menu has a lot of variety of milk teas with different combinations of toppings. I upgraded to a large and it cost $9.00. A little steep, but after I saw how big it was, the cost was justified. After drinking the boba, I was really full. The ingredients in the drink is really filling, plus the larger drinks contains more ingredients. This place has food also, but I can't comment on that because I didn't order any.
