Guy we 4 girls were with asked female bartender if he can charge his dead phone. She told him where. He went to go do it. But he couldn't get to it due to tight space. He went past this rope to do it then that bartender yelled @ him telling him not to go over the rope it's there for a reason we r supposed to follow the rules. She immediately asked the security to kick us all out. His girl asked y she suddenly caught attitude & trying to kick us out we didn't do anything wrong. Security told us to all leave. We all got up to ask y do we have to leave & does he even know the situation. I told him we will leave but can i explain to manager what happened cause it's a lil unfair. Everybody @ bar ganged up on us & started yelling & cursing for us to leave. We were yelling too by then. They even asked if we understand english. We were mixed ethnicities group. The bartender called police. As we were leaving the security & 1 customer who's been cursing @ us for no reason got in to a scuffle who was asked to leave but nobody else who was cursing & screaming were asked to leave. This is y i say racist. & i overheard bartender tell security to get license plate cause our guy is driving drunk. He never drank cause he was our dd. im writing this review because the customer service was horrible. my friends and i were waiting to get drinks at the bar, waited about a whole 10 minutes just for someone to notice us. it felt like we were being ignored. actually TWO bartenders said "we will be right with you" but never came. it was a saturday night but NOT a busy one for them. finally we were able to get a women bartenders attention, the one with back hair, glasses and gauges in her ears (also with attitude), took our order. we ordered like normal. she took super long making the drinks, talking with other customers and getting distracted, which is whatever but we already waited long enough for the drinks. anyways once it was time to pay, we did but it got to the tipping section and we decided we were NOT going to tip because like i said service wasn't good. this women bartender decides to announce to the whole bar "JUST SO YOU KNOW HE DOESNT TIP" and kept going..... like girl we tip if we think service was good/ if you were nice.... My friends and I went to this place after some time at the beach. Service- That's why this review is being written. All of the bartenders seemed to have an attitude. When I simply asked for waters with umbrellas, yes quirky but oh well, bartender smirked and tossed them in the cup. At the end of the night, my phone was about to die and I had an hour drive home. I saw a charger behind the bar and asked the bartender if I could charge my phone at least a bit to get me home; she said no and I "better figure it out" because they are closing however she was still making drinks and people were still at the bar. Came here for drinks on a Friday night with a couple friends. It was quite crowded, and it took us a minute to get the bartender's attention to order drinks at the bar. The bartender was quite busy and didn't seem particularly engaged in answering our questions about the drinks. We wanted a drink that had an umbrella in it and the bartender told us, "any of the drinks can come with a tiki umbrella". So we realized that we needed to just order a drink quickly and go. I ended up getting a Singapore Sling. It was decent -- decently strong, decently sweet, decently good. Got decentluy buzzed after that. As a tiki enthusiast, I'm stunned! I finally tried Purple Orchid, and wow--this place has been on my list forever, but I never made it out until now. We started the night with some tiki drinks before a concert at the Kia Forum, also while catching the Dodgers World Series Game one. The atmosphere was awesome, and the drinks were on point. Looked up cool bars to checkout around Hawthorne and this popped up. The town/neighborhood is really cute and was looking forward to trying this place but we weren't feeling it. The decor is tiki themed but the vibe is laid back college sports bar. There wasn't old Hawaiian music playing in the background, just sports. There are 2 pool tables available and the space is pretty decent sized but it was really busy and crowded when we went on Friday night. I ordered the Coconut Kiss cocktail because the watermelon one wasn't in season and I thought it was mid. It's a blended rum drink but nothing to write home about and it barely got me buzzed. There were 2 bartenders but only one girl was working and it took her a while to get to us at the end of the bar and she was having a night. We said to close the tab at first but then changed our minds shortly after and she was visibly irritated by that one request. She was serving angry Tiki face the rest of the night. Try to find street parking or there's a public lot at the end of the street, but you may find yourself circling around until someone leaves. Anyway, there's not that many tiki bars left in So. They only served snacks but they are open to you bringing in outside food which could be a huge plus or a deal breaker. Parking was limited but convenient. I like this place. I've only been here once and I remembered to write a review since I just recently went to the new tiki bar in Torrance. Drinks were strong so it's definitely good. The only thing I didn't like about this place was it felt too cramped. I remember sitting at the bar and people just walked behind me almost pushing me to the bar. It made me uncomfortable. Bartender was really nice. I remember my husband got curious on one of the weird looking bottles. He explained what kind of liquor it was and even said he doesn't recommend it. He grabbed a shot glass and poured some of the drink, gave it to my husband to try. He was right! Husband thought it was awful. Hahaha! They had that here. But whatever I got, wasn't up to spec - Just sweet fruit juice w rum. All this said, people inside were having fun. It wasn't very crowded at 8:30 on a Saturday night, so if you want a fun dive bar experience, this could be your place. It was pretty great timing since the Dodger game was on. Hubbers got back with a couple of brewskis and turned our attention to the game. But then we both noticed that our celfones (which we both placed on the table) were strangely attached to the table. And by that, I mean, the table was so dang sticky! And then that's where I kinda started REALLY looking around and that's when I noticed this place isn't really kept up. There are crumbs of some sort on some places, ditto the seats, I might have seen a few cobwebs in a few spots. But I enjoyed my beer and the company as we watched the game anyway. Great bar, loved the location. There was zero waiting time to be seated. We went on a Saturday afternoon, it was not crowded. I really like that there was good music playing but we were able to carry on a conversation. All the drinks we tried were good. I had a few of the Funky Monkey cocktails. Our bartender was really friendly, she welcomed us right away and helped us out by making recommendations. Very happy we stopped by this place and we'll definitely bring back friends. I had spent the entirety of my Saturday cleaning my apartment and listening to the Ventures. I wasn't expecting to go out, but the sweet sounds of surf music got me in the mood for a tiki drink. The bartender asked what I wanted and I just asked her to make me something fruity and awesome. Normally, I go with my tried and true Vodka/soda, but I mean, its a Tiki Bar, and the reason I was there was for a yummy tiki drink. She started me off with the Funky Monkey. It was delicious! I'm not very good with guessing flavor profiles, but there was a little banana and some sprinkled cinnamon on top. Next, I got a Strawberry Lemonade drink. I don't know the name of it, but managed to get a photo of it. It was also delicious, but not as complex as the Funky Monkey (the clear winner). I've been here 3 times. First time I went my group and I had a great time! The bartender was really nice and present. The second time I came it didn't go well at all. There was a Blonde white woman who was a bartender that night who was so rude. I was waiting at the bar to ask for a drink and when I first waved her down, she looked at me then ignored me. She then spoke to the people who were sitting down (who didn't ask her for anything and we're interrupted in their conversation). I just stood there awkwardly until I waved her down again.
