I'm an out of towner so I found this place on ClassPass and popped into the Blue 70 class. I had to google what the different colors meant for each class level- Blue 60 is for beginners, Blue 70 a step up from that in difficulty followed by Red then Green classes being more challenging. I wouldn't say I am a beginner so I expected the Blue 70 class to be an easy and relaxing flow for me. There was a new instructor, Martin, and while the class was slow to start, I really enjoyed Martin's style. I could tell there was some Thai chi influence and the class was just what I needed! This non-beginner for SURE broke a sweat! I really appreciated the hands-on assist to deepen in certain postures and I felt that Martin worked areas I haven't worked in my practice for awhile or even ever. I REALLY loved that he gave us 3 minutes to play in postures of our choice and ended with a guided meditation. Amazing way to begin my day! I will also add that the front desk staff were SUPER friendly (as this was my first visit) and made sure I knew where everything was. If I could get to the Red series (hot yoga) every day, I would be in amazing shape. This class kicks your ass and makes you feel absolutely amazing afterwards. As it is, I can only get here once or twice a week and I try to take a community class ($9) because the $17 per class rate is way too steep for me. I started attending Purple Yoga at the beginning of this year at the encouragement of a friend. Although I'm active, a bad experience in a yoga class turned me off to yoga years ago. My friend kept insisting that I'd love yoga too, and as much as I hate to admit, he's right. I started out with Blue, then Blue 2.0, and then fell in love with the Black classes. The heated classes and the limited number of sun salutations are perfect for me. I've hurt both shoulders playing sports and my shoulders feel stronger with more mobility. We go through a wider variety of poses during Black class since we don't do as many sun salutations. I just experienced Jessica's Green class this past week. YES!! I'll be back for this class. I've been trying out different yoga studios (YogaWorks, Corepower Yoga, Green Yogi, and even tried a yoga class at 24 Hour) over the past few months. I have been practicing yoga off and on for about five years and this studio has definitely sucked me back in. The Red classes are my favorite but the blue classes are still great if you're not into hot yoga. The blue class still gets pretty warm if there are a lot of people in the class. Great studio, I love the staff, they are all very friendly down to earth people. You can attend any class, even as a beginner... they encourage modifications. There is no water break shaming here! Two rooms allow for hot yoga and one for warm yoga. Showers in house are awesome because you will sweat profusely. I think the prices are fair for any yoga studio. Parking is ample and post workout eats are very conveniently located. This has been my studio for at least 3 years and I still love it very much!! read more

YOGA is the BEST answer that I know for excellent Spinal Health (and overall health ) ...it has cured me from the back pain & the affects I suffered due to a bulging disc L5-S1....I had numbness from my right calf to my right toes for almost 2 years & had severe/extreme right leg cramps for many months ...YOGA (& lots of Prayers) has completely cured all of it ...I have much gratitude to live so close to this studio & all of their amazing instructors . read more

I primarily go to the Purple Yoga in Long Beach, but I've been to the one in Tustin once. I definitely love Purple Yoga, and have been a member here since May 2012. The teachers are great, and really instruct fun, challenging classes. I don't think I've ever been to a class where I thought "hey i've done this same routine before." Pros: 1. Great classes. Different levels are offered at various times throughout the day. So if I'm feeling like being a bit more relaxed or challenged, there are almost always classes that will fit my schedule when I want. 2. Clean studio. I've been to other yoga studios where I'd find random hair in the sink/floor, but have yet to see anything dirty about this place. 3. Helpful instructors. Especially when I was trying to get back into yoga after a 2 year hiatus. I was welcomed very warmly, and encouraged to go at my own pace. 4. Provide free towels for to wipe off your sweat! yay! Cons: 1. in the upstairs yoga room, there's a little piece of floor that creaks loudly if you're on it. I just avoid sitting on that spot, this isn't really a Con but oh well. After signing up for the introductory package which includes 2 week's worth of unlimited yoga for $30 I came here every day I could and was impressed with all of the experienced instructors, variety and quantity of classes, clean facilities and fair pricing. I'm a new member to Purple Yoga, but I love how all of the instructors are friendly and make me feel welcome. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced student, the instructors will give helpful advise on how to get more out of your yoga workout without hurting yourself. Went to my first class at Purple Yoga last night and overall the experience was really great. The ambiance of the reception area, and for the most part the studio is very calm and serene. I took the Blue Series 2.0 class which was held that day in the studio on the first level. The room is quite small which surprised me at first... guess most of my experience has been in larger studios. I would suggest getting to class quite early (15 minutes at the very least) to get a spot you like. (there are two studios.. I have not been in the other yet.) The instructor was really good and does help with adjustments and suggestions, etc. It was my first yoga class in quite a while so any help was greatly appreciated as I was quite rusty! And wow, did I feel amazing after. The experience was so good that it left me looking forward to my next session! (yes, I signed up immediately for a class the next day) BTW: I signed up for the $29 intro deal that gives you unlimited classes for two weeks. Seems like a really good deal! read more

Tried my first class at Purple Yoga today and was very happy with my experience. The studio itself is clean and well kept. The staff seemed friendly enough during my experience. I took the Red class and was a little nervous because it's described as a lot of inversions and balances. But the instructor was great at giving options for all levels. I felt comfortable to try and not be judged. The workout itself was intense and challenging, which I love. The only reason I didn't give Purple yoga 5 stars is because I forgot a water bottle and there isn't a water fountain or Culligan or anything. They do sell water bottles but when I went to the front desk they were out. I was seriously dehydrated when I left so that just sucked. But I will definitely be coming back. Its been my first week at this yoga studio and so far I love it! I started with the groupon, such a great deal. $33 for 3 weeks unlimited. If it weren't for the groupon, I would've never found my way to this studio. It's tucked in the far corner of the plaza where Trader Joe's is. Come give it a try! The instructors are incredibly nice. There are plenty of classes between 6am-8:30pm so there are really no excuses. The studio has a nice vibe to it and the workers are very nice. The wooden floors upstairs can be a bit creaky but it's manageable, just move your mat over a centimeter and you'll be good. read more

I've been here many times but for the red classes. This review is for the blue class. I attended class on Sunday @ 3pm. Let me say that the instructor was awesome, however what I could not get over was the constant NOISE from the class upstairs!! The ceiling is paper thin. I felt like I was under an aerobics class with loud music (bass) bumping and the sounds of people stomping around like elephants and dropping things. So awful!! Not worth the money. How am I supposed to relax and focus with all that distraction? I wanted to ask if this was for real and why are we all trying so hard to be polite and ignore it. Seriously this is not an exaggeration! It was that bad. I live in downtown and can drown out the daily usual sounds of sirens and drunkards yelling- this was way worse. After the first 5 minutes I wanted to walk out and get a refund. However, I just endured 20 minutes of traffic from driving in from dtlb so I was determined to make it work. It quieted down some after 30 minutes, however still not worth it. I did not get the peace that I usually experience during yoga class. Super disappointed and I will not return even with a discount. read more

I got a Groupon for this place and it was worth it. It was $39 for three weeks of unlimited classes. All the teachers here are great. They offer tons of classes at all different times. The schedule is easy to find online. FYI, if you are not a fan of hot yoga, try to take the blue classes, they are in the downstairs class which is a lot cooler than the upstairs classes (red and green). But with that being said, I was also not a fan of hot yoga, but I took a green class here in the "hot room" and I loved it. The bathrooms are so nice and they have showers and a hair dryer. Came here yesterday for the $10 yin yoga class. Yin is supposed to be about getting into a meditative state during each pose. While the instructor Danny was good, all the clanking and noise from above along with the loud talking in the hallway made it a challenge for me to get into the type of meditation I'm used to during yin yoga. The location is nice but I won't be back due to all the distractions. 2 stars for location and instruction. read more

If you want exercise, then this place is for you. If you want a true yoga class that benefits both the body AND the mind, then I would search elsewhere. Studio is clean, staff is nice. No one is overly friendly. In fact, it kind of all seems so dry and shallow. Music was not working on more than one occasion when I was there; which was a bummer, as I feel music really compliments a practice. Red classes do feel great with the heat, but then again, it's just a group of people doing poses and staring in mirrors at how good they think they look. My last class had about 10 people in it, and it was dead silent. Exercise is what you'll get, strengthening your current yoga practice is what you won't get. Well-a true yogi just tries to breathe through it, and looks for the good no matter what. The rating is for Purple Yoga and not for each specific instructor. Please read my initial review. This is an update to it. Bobby Wilson: This is a hard assessment as I was stuck in the Hot Pocket of the room (IMPOSSIBLE TO HEAR THE INSTRUCTOR!!!). This is not Bobby's fault but this location of the room very much impacts the quality of my experience. For the Ladies, I overheard comments of appreciation that Bobby was shirtless. Bobby put forth a great effort to circle the room to disperse his voice but I only heard 60% of what he had to say. Maybe if he compensated for the Owner's decision to have an "L" shaped yoga class with dead audible zones by turning down the volume of the music. What a shame that the instructor and students cannot benefit from moderate to loud music because of the Owners. Maybe the Owner's will invest in a theater-style mic that will play slightly higher than the music. His class had 42 students. I am guessing that the room should only have LESS as there was not enough room to do the poses. Is there a Maximum # of allowable mats? Bobby appears to be the most popular instructor thus far! Everyone that I ask will include Bobby as one of their favorite instructors. He is very personable and it is evident that he was born with a gift to be "likable". He is a skilled Yoga Instructor and that also appears to be natural for him. He demonstrated no effort and gracefulness when demonstrating more advanced poses. I have learned to show up earlier for Bobby's class, stay in the middle of the room and be prepared to be elbow to elbow with other students. Akuno: I normally take only Hot Yoga classes (Red) but I was fooled by my assumption that it was a Red class and lack of any details except "Level II and III" on the website (one of many issues with the website, Where are the Owners?). It was a room temperature class. My luck put me right next to the entry door that had a solid 1/4 inch gap at the bottom of the door. The pressure system forced air on me the entire session. Maybe the Owners will start to look around as to how to improve the facility with weather stripping for temperature controlled climates and redesigned rooms with appropriate audio systems. Interesting how an instructor has suggestions and tells me that the Owners are nice but only listen to complaints from the students "Send an email" (This instructor was one that I have not yet had). Akuno's class was wonderfully small and she appears to KNOW HER STUFF!!! She demonstrated about 70% of the time this helped to compensate for the very thick Japenese accent. I heard 100% of what she said (her music was moderate in volume) but understood 30%. It is a little funny when she speaks and is not demonstrating that the class is partially left, partially right and the others are looking around to determine what to do. Or when she asks us to close our eyes and follow her instructions, I almost started laughing. I would suggest that she demonstrates 100% of the time. I would never take a Red class from her because of the "L" shaped room prevents everyone from seeing her. The smaller classroom is perfect for her current abilities. I bet she would be an awesome (Teacher of Teachers) when her articulation improves and the Owners get a Red room that is NOT "L" shaped, allowing for all to see the instructor. For those that can understand Akuno, she is a talented instructor and you will benefit from her skill set. For me, if I have no other choice (except for the still nameless instructor) I would take her but would have a more beneficial time with another instructor. Elana-Is an overall great instructor. Even though English is not her primary language (Russian), I heard 100% and understood 100%! She articulated the directions clearly and the music was at a volume that all could easily hear her. She guided us through a great routine with great descriptions and awareness of the students participaton. She was not too this or that, she was overall awesome!. It was a pleasure to take her class and look forward to taking more from her. read more

Purple yoga is a really good quality company. I've never tried any of their spin studios, but both of their yoga locations are great. Clean facility, peaceful atmosphere, and awesome instructors. I always do the Red 70 (hot yoga), but I never feel like I'm repeating the same class. As they say, diversity is the spice of life and Purple yoga certainly delivers. The classes are color coded, such as Red for hot & Blue for cool/mellow. Pretty easy to understand so that you can pick a class that best suits you. Usually going to Long Beach means hunting for sucky parking, but thankfully this location is part of a shopping center. Plenty of spaces for all. If you're looking to get into yoga, I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

I can't believe I am writing a review like this. I've never been treated so shabbily before. I was at the Long Beach Farmer's Market and saw their booth. I had always wanted to check this place out. I picked up a schedule and was super excited to see that they have early classes that fit my schedule. The woman at the booth seemed nice enough and wanted me to sign up for their 2 weeks unlimited for $20. That sounded great but I didn't have my schedule with me (didn't want to sign up and not be able to go). So I said I'd do it later and would take the schedule. The woman snatched it out of my hand and told me she was "saving all the schedules for people who actually signed up (she had about 20-30 of them)." I was stunned. I've never had someone EVER do this before. This was a quarter sheet piece of paper copied on a B&W/color copier (there might have been a little color on it). It cost maybe .10. Evidently I am not worth 10 cents to this studio. I'm SOOOO glad I didn't signup because I probably would have had to pay the .01 ink fee for the pen and the .10 fee for the signup sheet. I'm glad to see the true attitude and spirit of this place without having to spend a dime. It's sad because I really,really would have liked to go. But I won't tolerate being treated like this. I hope they enjoy their .10. Note: After I posted this., I received a message from the individual basically trying to rewrite history, telling me she didn't do what she did and chastising me for "trying to ruin someone's business for her simple mistake". Consider this interaction between me and the studio manager, Sequanna: Me: "Hello, I was a new student a year ago and only took two classes. Do ya think I might do the new student thing again prior to autoenroll? If you can't do it, that's fine. I figured I'd ask to optimize the startup costs." Sequanna: "Unfortunately, our system is set up to only allow for 1 Intro Special per person. I wish there was a way around that, however, there is not. It is a great deal I know, and it is hard to make the financial commitment to practice. If it's any consolation, I show on your account that you did attend twice, so you did save $5 by purchasing the intro as individual classes are $17." Me: "I don't mind being told no, but I do mind being lied to. Blaming "the system" is disingenuous at best - as a small business you have the ability to enter into any contract you like. Furthermore, this isn't about financial commitment: I'd be happy to agree to auto enroll as a condition of a second new student thing. (BTW one of the classes I took way back when was a $9 class so I actually lost $3.)" I'd also add that the Auto Enroll program smacks of greed: "30 day written notice required to cancel". That is a classic gym-membership ploy to get people to keep paying even when they stop coming. No me gusta. read more

This review is only for the instructor Cidney Shidoni Corpus. I had the most unpleasant experience ever in my years of yoga practice. His class is like Boot Camp with yoga poses. He does not practice with his students or demonstrate any poses. He does not emphasize on the correctness of the most basic poses and when I look at the students around me, many students are doing them wrong. For examples, upward facing dog, you're supposed to have your shoulders in front of your wrists to avoid lower back injury, it is the most basic teaching of this pose and he does not mention or correct when students are doing it wrong. In the beginning of the class when we are setting our intentions, he kept yelling "America! America! Wear your flag on your chest" while pumping annoying patriotic music. The whole class he would not stop talking even during Savasana and he would not stop promoting his Instagram page. At one point I just want to tell him to please shut the f* up. Never in my experience that I felt angry after a practice. Also this is supposed to be a RED class, which supposed to involve arm balances and inversions which there was none. His class neither promotes calmness and inner peace. Also the class was jam packed you barely have room to fully stretch and move. If you're into this sort of military style boot camp I wouldn't even call it "yoga", then this is your class. If you're a serious yogi, I suggest taking class with someone or somewhere else. Background Info: I have attempted Hot Yoga at two other studios. I've been visiting Purple Yoga Studio for one month. I'm not in great shape. Review: This place is not only clean, minimalistic, and serene, it also offers fantastic yoga instructors. Unlike other yoga studios, you will not feel out of place because you're out of shape. The instructors offer a very supportive environment for novices like myself. Although I'm new to this, I have attempted both the blue and red series and have been challenged and surprised by my own abilities to learn the postures. Purple Yoga is amazing! After years of searching for the perfect balance of ambiance, skilled instructors, and location; I have found it in the Purple Yoga (Long Beach) studio. Red series classes make practice a bit more intense and challenging, but in a really good way. After leaving class I feel as if I've received the best massage (in my organs and muscles.) With regular practice (3--4 days a week,) you see amazing visible results in muscle definition after only two weeks. The feeling of inner vitality and the "yoga glow" is almost immediate. I recommend Purple Yoga to all of my friends and family for the best yoga experience in Long Beach and the best gift to oneself. read more

This "yoga studio" is receiving 1 star because apparently they have showers, although I have yet to be able to see them. After getting up at the crack of dawn and driving around in circles looking for this place, calling with no answer, I arrive 2 minutes late only to be told I was not allowed to take class. Now I absolutely LOVE the idea of accountability, in fact my fav yoga studio locks the door 7 minutes after class begins, but compassion is necessary as well. The dark haired girl at the front desk was very rude. Between her body language and her attitude it was far from welcoming. I was extremely quite when I entered and asked politely if I could still attend, before the door could even shut behind me I was met with a movement of the eyes (yes this girl didn't even move her head) and a short sort of laughed "no, you are late". Nothing more. Just dead pan blank expression. Have u seen Parks and Recreation....yeah that girl probably modeled her roll after the "customer service" at purple yoga. If you are looking for a good Namaste, I'd look further. read more

What kind of yoga place does not have a place for people to fill up their water bottles? Seriously! That's my maine peeve about this studio. Otherwise, I've been to several of the $9 classes, by different teachers, and can't really say I've had a bad experience. If you're an uncontrollable giggler, might want to steer clear of Sid's classes - the dramatic point of view with with he lives his life and teaches his class are extremely entertaining, but also hilarious. I almost fell out of my down dog laughing at his style several times in class. Otherwise, all of the teachers are pretty good and teach generic type flow classes. I love Purple Yoga. Those who know me will attest to the fact that I used to hate yoga because I had to deal with some horrible instructors at 24 Hour Fitness as well as yoga studios that spam me with phone calls to join. This place is a haven for all yogis, beginner to advanced. I'm naturally flexible so when I started attending these classes, I could do all the poses but wasn't really feeling a stretch. I felt good but I didn't feel amazing until I started attending Kim Purdy's classes. She's an absolutely amazing instructor and I love learning from her. Kim is extremely soothing in her Moving Into Stillness classes and actually brings that same quality to her Blue 2.0 classes. She suggests ways to bring yourself into a deeper stretch but also is considerate of those who aren't quite as flexible. I first started out at the Purple Yoga in Fullerton and while the Blue class I had with Bonnie Knight was good, I wasn't impressed with the facility itself. The locker room and shower area left something to be desired. However, the Long Beach location is wonderful. Everything is clean and there's even extra toiletries available for anyone who needs them. I started out with a Yelp deal that I purchased late last year. Because I purchased it so early, it had different terms and conditions than the ones being sold now. Long story short, for some reason, the staff at Purple Yoga in Fullerton didn't input my information into the system so I couldn't schedule classes online and it wasn't valid when I tried checking in upon arrival. Ace at the Long Beach studio was very helpful and directed me to Sequanna who's the manager there. She did an amazing job of smoothing out the whole situation and even started my deal on a later date so that I would be able to get a chance to get a full experience. I would highly recommend getting a Yelp deal if you just want to try this place out. However, check the terms and conditions to make sure it fits with the location you had in mind. If the Yelp deal doesn't have the location you want, try buying the initial deal online at www.purpleyogastudio.com ($20 for two weeks of unlimited classes). Due to the staff at Purple Yoga in Long Beach, I decided to continue at this studio as an Autopay member. It's the best deal (@ $109/mo) if you come 3+ times a week. I drive up to an hour most days to get to the Purple Yoga in Long Beach but it's completely worth it for me. I'm addicted now. I see a change in my stress level and I try to incorporate the breathing techniques I learn to my everyday life. I know it may seem expensive, but can you really put a price on your health? For me, I'll be saving money on all my physical therapy visits. I was just discharged last week and I have Purple Yoga to thank for that. I have been dropping in here for the past 2 years. I usually take the $10 community classes which have all been wonderful! I love the affordable price with no commitment to membership, as it allows me to use yoga as a compliment to my usual workout routine. I usually gravitate toward the red class which is a great combination of strength, balance, flexibility and stability.
