I took a blue class from Simon Goss this morning at 9 o'clock. It was a new level of experience for me at purple yoga where the quality of instruction is so extraordinary and the courtesy and consideration of this staff is so beautiful that it is hard to believe such a studio actually exists. I spend most my time in Encinitas now, and there is nothing there that comes close to purple yoga. I hope that they will open a studio there soon. I believe it would do very well. read more

Love this place! Took my first blue class this am through the introductory package and Paula greeted me at 645am with her peaceful spirit and warm smile. She answered all of my questions and was an excellent teacher. This is only the 2nd yoga class that I have ever taken in my entire life and I felt challenged and comfortable throughout the entire 60 min class, especially with some of the modified poses that Paula pointed out for me (the novice). I will definitely be back to check out more classes, and I will definitely be picking out a monthly package in the next 2 weeks so that I can keep up with a consistent practice as I grow and as my body gets stronger :) read more

I've been coming here for off and on for some time, in between all my other workout places as I totally have exercise ADD. Some of the best things I can say about PY is that there is a lot of classes to choose from and the best part is the $9 classes scattered during the day. (yoga is an expensive habit.) I'm mostly a Bikram fan, so when I first started coming here I thought it wasn't "hot" enough, but I have since learned to take the Green classes which are hot and challenging. There are Blue, Red, and Green classes which each have different level of intensity and heat. It took me a long time to appreciate this, but each class is different while I was so used to Bikram which is so militant, here its almost always a different flow all the time. All the instructors are super chill, its really a great place to start out and continue your practice. Yay for $9 classes!!!! read more

It was my first time ever, doing Hot Yoga and I took advantage of the Yelp deal. I had a hard time looking for this place but it's pretty much in the middle of the shopping center. The people working there is friendly, and I didn't struggle as bad as I thought I would, considering I had never done yoga, let alone hot yoga. Bring water and towels because you'll be sweating your butt off. Also, pay attention to their schedules as far as which class starts and ends at what time and what class you're entering.. It's probably best to start out easy and work your way up. I started with their Blue class, and after one session, I jumped to Red, not because I thought I was bad ass but because the time of the day that I was available to go; it was tough. I've been going to purple for about 5 years and I love everyone here. I just have to give a special shout out to Siri. Not only are her classes soothing and strenuous, a perfect balance for me, I sooo appreciate how she is so time conscious and works our final resting pose into the classes time. LOVE this place! Get ready to sweat in their 100 degree hot yoga classes! Not only do you get a great workout but the instructors are very helpful. I have gone to several studios around Long Beach and Purple Yoga is my favorite. Here are a few reasons why: - Consistency & Diversity: Each teacher (I have done classes with almost all of them) bring their own personality to the class while maintaining a very high standard of excellence. Attention to students needs, as hands-on or as hands-off as each student prefers in helping get into proper form, very thorough knowledge and experience, and varied backgrounds create a really well-rounded staff and awesome classes. This applies to the classes offered as well. Blue /Blue 2.0 classes are at 78º while Red (a more intense and fast-pased class) and Green (more Iyengar) are offered at 100º . They offer Restorative and Candlelit both of which are aimed at relaxation and healing, yoga nidra which is guided meditation, and yin yoga, which is for strengthening connective tissues and ligaments through extended poses. -Ease of Use: though it has nothing to do with actual yoga practice, I am busy and I love having the web portal (on a well-made site) to check the class schedule and reserve my space. I know this is irrelevant but I'm in IT so these things please me -Environment: Purple Yoga provides a clean and relaxing environment conducive to really focusing on your practice / leaving your to-do list in the car. From the front desk area (which is stocked with any yoga clothes or accessories you may need if you're in the market to replace your gear) to the clean and spacious locker rooms, to the practice rooms themselves Purple is en pointe. Also, Trader Joe's and Nekter Juice Bar and BevMo are all right there too Finally, and what is probably most important, is that all of the teachers have been SO kind and welcoming! When I came to Purple I had not consistently practiced in YEARS. I was out of shape, didn't have the "cool" yoga gear, could hardly reach my hands past my knees, and almost never got a pose right the first time. So I definitely felt insecure about going to such a hip place. But all my teachers really embraced and encouraged me and put me totally at ease. I was visiting Long Beach and I had a wonderful class at Purple Yoga. It's a beautiful and clean studio with showers, mats, and towels. The studio itself was hot but not stifling. I definitely got a good workout and was sweating a lot. I took a Red class which I expected to be a little more vigorous, but like I said, I got a good workout and I was very pleased with the class and the instructor. read more

This place is seriously a home away from home! I have been attending this studio since January when my journey into hot yoga began. My sister had been attending this studio for quite some time and always invited me to attend with her, finally one day I did and I have been completely HOOKED ever since. The studio is always clean and well kept, sometimes they run out of make-up wipes but the fact that they supply make-up wipes in the first place evens it out. The front desk employees are also incredible and extremely friendly, they always go out of their way to make you feel right at home and answer any questions that they can. The main reason I continue to attend this particular studio is because of the teachers, they are all out of this world amazing and every time I take class here I feel my practice improving. On more than one occasion the instructor has stayed behind after class to work on a pose with me one one, you don't get that at other studios! The teachers here are all equally amazing and no one is better than the other but there are for sure some that I respond to a little more than others: Cidney- mind blowing, I accidentally walked into his class one day and was totally shocked by his style of teaching but I knew right then that I wanted to train under him because of the way he makes you feel like you could do anything. He calls his students unicorns and he is difference from anyone at the studio, he is a little intense for some (as you can see from the reviews) but I adore Cidney and will continue to practice with him weekly. Siri- Totally different from Cidney but totally amazing. She is so patient and well spoken, Siri leads a powerful class but it is way more mellow than Cidney's class where he is yelling at you to pick your head up and not to quit. Siri will expand your practice but teaching you to challenge yourself and to keep breathing. Paramananda- Although I still cannot pronounce his name, he has no problem kicking my ass in class. He teaches a spiritual side of yoga without keeping too deep, he reminds you that you can do anything you set your mind to while still having you focus on the little things that make the poses. Sequanna-one of the more challenging teaches at purple just because of the fact that she makes it look SO easy. Her classes are upbeat, full of positive energy and she blasts the music (sorry downstairs class). When I feel like really pushing myself, I will take her class :) Alex-also a great teacher! He brings such a positive and happy vibe into the room that you cannot help yourself from having fun even though you are 100% dying inside because he sequences are so challenging and unique-you never have the same class twice from Alex. Like I said, all teachers are amazing but these are some of my favorites, I hope I did not forget anyone! I also enjoy Green classes more than Red because there are usually more inversions and balancing poses but the Red is really where the power comes in. read more

I love this yoga studio so much!!! I'm hooked. I have been to many different yoga studios before but this one is different somehow. The hot yoga classes I went to in the past seemed too frenetic. The classes here all seem to be just right, a slow tempo building up to an intense workout. The studio is clean, the front desk people are friendly, the instructors give just enough instruction to be helpful but not in your face instrusive. More than the physical benefits the emotional ones just as much or more so. I started coming after the death of my best friend and I needed a place to channel my grief. I was besides my self. I started coming to the drop in classes to keep my head from spinning in mind numbing grief. The classes proved to be cathartic and the darkness started lifting. My mind was calmed and then I started feeling better. Holding a yoga pose or a stretch started to feel so delicious and soothing! Then I started noticing changes in my body. I have gotten so much stronger, have lost weight and seen changes in my posture and muscle tone. I joined as an official member and I cant wait to get to class everyday. The $10 drop in classes are a fantastic deal but I was coming almost daily, so made sense to just join monthly. The benefits of mind, body, spirit have been invaluable. Purple Yoga is now a big part of my life. Three months ago I decided I would benefit physically and emotionally from doing yoga on a regular basis. I chose Purple Yoga because of it's location near the Advanced Wellness Center (2nd and PCH). The yoga facility is amazing. It's everything you want in a yoga studio: clean, relaxing, hip design. The woman's locker room (with three showers, two toilets, sinks) is great. The Purple Yoga instructors are incredible. I attend both "red" and "blue" classes but prefer the red. The instructors pay attention to you and help with modifications when necessary. Each one teaches the class a little different, which I find refreshing. I really enjoyed the New Member deal- $29 for two weeks of unlimited yoga. It allows you to try out different times of day and different instructors. location is a bit hard to locate, its in a plaza with great restaurants... why? there are different variations of yoga classes, which is great. you can go to a hot yoga class one day and/or you can go to a gym like "yoga class" the next hour/day. all i have to say is my gym class teacher is nowhere near compared to these pros! little or no talk about their day and focus more on the class.... I originally got into yoga doing the Bikram. I really enjoyed Bikram but the same poses over and over got boring for me and I was also wanting to explore the mind-body aspects of yoga, not just the physical poses. Purple Yoga was my next stop and its been a great experience. I did the Red class which is in a heated room but not as hot as the Bikram and on a hardwood floor. The instructors I had were great. I had several classes where I found what I was looking for as far as going beyond the poses. They emphasized proper breathing, and meditation which really helped me throughout the class and in daily living. I am a strong believer in yoga and this studio is a good place to progress your practice. read more

Went to class on a Monday, following a not-so-great experience at a nearby bikram studio. Purple yoga studio was very spacious, and the class attendants were friendly. I can't get enough red and green classes, it's such a good workout and pushes you to your limit. I went here through a deal found on their website, which is $20 for 2 weeks unlimited. I tried the blue, red and black series and they were all enjoyable. The studio is beautiful and clean. They have hardwood floors and offer water and towels for an additional fee. I plan on going back and taking advantage of the community classes at $9 each (a steal for what you get!). Normally a single class will cost $17 and a monthly subscription is about $100 plus depending if you do the automatic payment or month to month. I cannot stress enough how relaxing and intense the red and black series are. You definitely sweat but also gain a sense of peace during the 80 minute session. read more

I have recently started taking yoga classes again. My girlfriend turned me on to this place, she loves the 100 degree hot yoga. I prefer the 80 degree. The nice thing about this place is that there are many classes so something for everyone, and the establishment is clean. The staff is friendly. I took a 1:00 wed class with Julie today and really felt like my body experienced the stretches. She remembers your name at check in and she assist you with any position changes or form for the best results. She was excellent. read more

Very clean! Not smelly! I have gone to 5 other yoga studios. I love the variety of teachers at PY. The different class types and temperatures is also a big plus. I haven't taken every teacher but Bonnie is my #1 fav. I love her vibe, energy, and how she pushes ppl during class. She was also my very first teacher when I tried a Bikram class in Fullerton in 2007 and I've enjoyed her classes since then, so when I saw her at PY I was super excited! I also tend to enjoy teachers who talk about the physical benefits of each pose (must be the nurse in me). My husband and I also have taken Joe, Siri, Ranae, Annie, and Melody. My husband has tried more teachers then I have bc on my off yoga days I'm dancing tahitian. Hubby has not had any complaints to this day. I haven't taken Simon but I heard he is great if you want that xtra xtra hard core challenge. I am sure anyone can find a teacher that best fits their style here at PY. AMAZING Yoga Place! I've been practicing there for the last 4 months on a daily basis. There are so many reasons why I LOVE Purple Yoga! For the instructors, for the cleanliness after a hot yoga session (Hot Mess & Sweat!!) and their class schedules. Purple Yoga caters to all levels at all times of the day. I love it here! Best yoga studio I've encountered! Super flexible with schedule. They offer many classes every day of the week! And it's affordable! I'm doing the intro package right now but I'm already set on committing to 6 months paying $109/month. It works out for me because I have skeletal issues and yoga is best! Plus my work schedule is weird and they offer classes late in the night and early morning. I can go 4x a week probably. The structors know what they are doing. They're friendly and I'm excited about the variety of classes offered. I live about 3 miles away too and just moved to seal beach. It's amazing here! read more

I tried Purple Yoga with a Living Social deal when the studio had recently opened. It was the second yoga studio I've ever been to so I came in with an open mind. My rating is based upon a couple things that I noticed: The instructors were knowledgeable for the most part, but seemed a bit serious -- not the warm and welcoming demeanor that clients like to receive in general. Also, a couple of them seemed to not want to deal with newbies like myself and were more focused on making adjustments and checking in more with the experienced yogis. The room on the 1st floor is close to the stairwell and even with the door closed and light music playing, we could hear the running and chatter out there. It was pretty distracting. After my trial ended, I didn't feel particularly impressed with any of the classes so I did not purchase a membership. read more
