Started with the gentle flow and restorative classes since I was in a car accident and it has been a while since I did yoga. Purple Yoga rocks! I had been trying for 2 years to be able to comfortably ride my bicycle for more than an hour but my back always hurt too much. I tried doctors, physical therapy, gym workouts, etc. without any success. After 6 weeks of classes at Purple Yoga, I was able to ride for an hour and a half with almost no pain. That's a 50% improvement! If you need to improve your flexibility or increase your core strength, try Purple Yoga! You'll be amazed at the results. The instructors each have something unique to add to your practice. I've learned so much from each one of them. The studio is fabulously designed - you'll feel right at home from the start. I love this studio and have been coming here for a little over a year now. I also go to the Fullerton location sometimes depending on my schedule. I don't know what happened since the new year but three of their best instructors have either left or given notice and I fear there will be more to leave. I'll admit I'm bias and frequent these few instructors, but the times I've taken other classes, I'm not as fulfilled. I'm super bummed that I bought up a bunch of classes on their Black Friday sale (on top of my monthly 2x a week membership). The studio has also been slacking on maintenance. There's constantly a shower out of commission or a light out in one, the toilets frequently don't have seat covers and there's a piece of the wall sitting on the floor in one of the stalls (for weeks now). I'm bummed to see the quality of the studio decline overall. I've since canceled my monthly and will use the sessions I bought until they run out and will probably follow these instructors to their next venture. read more

Finally, I've found a hot yoga place near my house. I was so sick of driving to Corepower in HB, where I often wouldnt even make it in time for class. It's been two weeks, during which I utilized my $29 unlimited offer, and it looks like I'm sold on the place; I will be signing up for a month tonight. The facilities are squeaky clean, with an upstairs room and downstairs. The staff is so pleasant, they even take the time to learn your names and stop you to chit chat on your way out. Unlike CPY, I don't stress about getting there early so I can escape the anxiety I get over being squished into an undesirable spot; Purple Yoga always has the perfect amount of people, so you are evenly spaced out. I get a great workout, and I'm sore every time so far; yoga is the one activity where it is so apparent when your strength has grown. I notice after practicing for the first time after a period of inactivity how weak I've become, and literally a few short classes later, I notice how much strenth I've built. I also feel the yoga here is equally as invigorating and physically challenging as CPY was, but I do feel its less strenuous on my body. I have a bad hip, and many positions are excruciatingly painful if not impossible for me, but PY is gentle enough and slow paced enough that I don't worry about putting my poor old leg through the trauma of repeatedly lifting and pumping and pushing; although yoga is always meant to be taken at your own pace while listening to your own body, at the other place I couldnt help but put a little bit of pressure on myself to keep up with the class. They have a variety of classes to suit your tastes, most of them suited for all levels. They offer a hot yoga series , as well as classes heated to 99 degrees, and others at a nice warm 80, which can be a nice reprieve if you arent in the mood to drip buckets of sweat and slip around on your mat. It is pricey, but thats just yoga. I highly recommed doing the 2 weeks unlimited; even if you go just twice a week it makes it about $7 a class. If you decide its for you, you receive 20% off your first purchase of classes. I almost don't want to tell the world, god forbid it turns into sardine city CPY!!! But alas, greatness needs to be yelped about. read more

I have been going to Purple Yoga pretty much since it opened two years ago. Up until the other day, I really liked this place as far as studios go in this area. While some teachers are great here, some classes just don't do it for me at all. It seems as if the sequencing is more to impress your mat neighbor than to actually get a workout from the flow. It is also concerning when poses are given that are clearly too advanced for the people in the class. It would be nice to see a little more mindfulness paid to student's alignment so that injury can be prevented. Don't get me wrong, I have had some great teachers here. However, I just wish that this studio emphasized practicing mindful, healthy yoga with many modifications and without the ego. read more

If you're a seasoned practitioner expect a well-rounded basic vinyasa class. Instructors are well-trained , prepared and confident. I understand PY is a business and like any business must make a profit to remain open and provide excellent service. My concern is that the business is taking the forefront to the actual yoga experience. I emailed the studio quite a while back expressing my concern about an instructor giving a sales about events and specials at the studio before class had even finished. The pitch went on for well over five minutes. The calm focus I developed from his class dissipated and a bit of irritation set in. I decided to leave before closing . I do not mind receiving information about the studio I wish it would happen once class is finished not before. I sent an email to the studio regarding this issue before but received no response. Seeing that this happened more than once, I do hope the owners or managers read this so they can correct this issue and have their instructors provide studio information once class is done. read more

I really like Purple Yoga. I recently purchased the 2 weeks unlimited for $29 and tried mostly the green, nidra, and restorative classes. I have moved on to community classes which are great! So happy that purple yoga offers community class since yoga classes can get quite pricey. The one downside to community classes are that they aren't always the time slots that you want. I will most likely be purchasing a class series soon. The studio is really nice, there are two! Looks like the upstairs is for the flow classes and the studio downstairs is for restorative, meditation, and nidra classes? Purple yoga is easy to get to, the parking lot is HUGE since it has trader joes. The walkway to get to purple yoga is by bev mo and john garey fitness. The women's locker room is really nice, make sure to bring your lock to use! And there are multiple showers and plastic bags to put your clothes in which I thought was a nice touch. The instructors are great and so are the staff, everyone is friendly. It is really nice inside Purple Yoga too, there is apparel that is often marked on sale. read more

Been coming to purple yoga for a few years now. It's a great yoga studio. They have a variety of classes and heated/not heated. Everyone has their own teacher style preference but overall I'd say i'm happy with majority of their instructors. There are teachers I avoid because I don't get much from their classes but to each their own. They've recently seen a wave of teachers come and go. The staff is overall nice and helpful. They also have a clean locker room with showers and bathrooms (which they stock with pads and tampons). If you come enough it's worth it. They have different packages you can purchase. Overall it's definitely a yoga studio worth checking out. The only negative is that their rooms can be a little loud. For example if you are downstairs you hear everyone jumping around upstairs. And upstairs has a clicking sound I think it has to do with the heater. Some people complain about this but doesn't yoga teach you you to adapt to your surrounds and that you can't change everything ? I think this studio is still worth 5 stars. I have been doing yoga for almost ten years and this is my favorite studio thus far! i have recently decided to challenge myself and start a regular hot yoga routine. The instructors are amazing (jessica hallett is my favorite) and the yoga spaces and locker rooms are very nice. They have classes almost every half hour during the week which makes it so convenient for me as I often work late. This location is also near Veggie Grill and Nektar Juice Bar. I really did not think I would write this after my first month of experience at Purple Yoga in LB. This rating has nothing to do with the staff and teachers I have taken. The front desk is great and the instructors especially Jeri have been amazing. I first used a Groupon after my Dr. referred me to Hot Yoga and mentioned the deal at Purple Yoga. Upon finishing my Groupon I got an email with a special rate and it was for 10 classes. I was excited till I paid and it said you have 30 days to use 10 visits. I average twice a week so that is 8 classes. I also get flare ups with back so it could take longer. I went in talked to front desk and they told me to email the company off the website. Well I did that and asked if they could please exp it till November. I spent $140 and that is not easy to come by with all other expenses I have for my back. Well they flat out said NO. Not we will this time but next time no just NO. really disappointed in a company who has no customer service especially one that promotes well being. read more

Tried hot yoga for the first time here upon the referral of a friend who is a fitness trainer, and I'm in love with it now. Yoga is not really my thing, but hot yoga was so uniquely different and intense that I've started making hot yoga more my thing. The staff is friendly and the facilities are nice and well-kept. I just wish they had more showers because the women's locker room is pretty small and depending on the time you go, there could be a wait for the showers. It's kind of pricey on a per class basis, but it's not so bad if you don't really plan on going more than once a week at the bare minimum. I'd probably only do it a couple times a month so I don't mind paying $16 or $17 per class. Oh, and you sweat like you've never sweated before; I don't think I've perspired so much doing anything else. I was so happy with my first hot yoga experience. Ever since my introduction to hot yoga at this place, I've noticed positive changes in my life. I totally recommend checking it out for yourself. read more

I did their two week intro package and ended up purchasing a package. What I love about this studio is that they have regular yoga. I am NOT interested in doing hot yoga for a number of reasons, but apparently hot yoga is all the rage and finding a studio that lets you work out in normal temperatures was not easy to find. So, yay for Purple Yoga! I've had two instructors, and both of them were very good. I left feeling refreshed and relaxed, looking forward to the next class. They had very different styles, however, even though the class was the same level. I found one to be a much harder workout. Their class times are not ideal for me, unfortunately. I'd love to go in the morning, but the level 1 yoga class starts at 7 am and ends at 8. Well, I start work at 8, so that's a problem. My work is flexible enough that I could still go to the 7 am class, shower there, and go straight to work, although a 6:30 am class would still work better for me. There's only one problem: their locker room is great, with showers that are stocked with yummy smelling shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. But the lockers are the size of a shoebox, so good luck fitting anything in there except your purse. My bag with my clothes, shoes, towel, etc. for the day absolutely doesn't fit, which means it has to go into the studio with me. It's not that big of a deal, I suppose, but why do you need 40 shoe-box sized lockers? At least put in a couple big ones so people can actually use the nice showers and have something to wear when they get out. All in all, I really enjoy this studio, and I look forward to improving my practice to start the level 2. read more

First of all this does not look like your typical yoga studio, it looks more like a spa, it's beautiful inside. The classes are broken out into red or blue series depending on your preference of heat level and skill level. The instructors I've had have been awesome...challenging classes, but they will totally walk you through the pose and help you adjust it to your level. The location is great too, right in the Market Place. They offer a ton of classes so you'll definitely be able to find a time that fits in your schedule. I'm excited to have such an awesome new studio in the LBC!!! read more

I just started going about 2 weeks ago and I am hooked and will continue to go! The facility is very clean & the employees who check you in are all very nice with the exception of one girl, not sure why she is working there if she is so unhappy? The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because although I sign up for each class ahead of time, it appears there is no limit to the size of the class. There are times that we are literally squeezed next to each other that causes hands and/or feet to bump into your neighbor (awkward) I feel there should be a limit to each class so that we have enough 'personal space' between us and have adequate space without bumping into someone. I also feel that when a class is reaching that maximum capacity, they should give priority to those who sign for the class up vs. those who just show up. read more

Good spot in LB. Lots of classes, so not too packed. I like the Blue 2.0 best. Red is pretty intense but rewarding.

I love this studio. It's so clean and nice. Jessica really kicks your butt in the Green 2.0 class. It is expensive, though.

My first experience at Purple Yoga was amazing. First of all, the studio is beautiful - clean, spacious and welcoming. And the locker room/shower room was nicer than most. This really gets you into the mindset of yoga and making the experience all about mindfulness with no extra worries. I took Robin's class on Saturday evening. She was excellent! She is very knowledgeable while at the same time, makes you feel very comfortable - whatever your level may be. I joined Purple Yoga in February 2012. Met the greatest person ever (yoga instructor) Because of her I was hooked practicing 4-5 times a week. She helped me physically and emotionally. Until about a month ago, she left..for reason ???? It is a big loss because eversince then I haven't been back. Though I continued and tried to practice with other instructors, they are good but not as great. On a positive note, they have a clean facility with ample parking space; Zen like atmosphere outside.,, BUT without her..it is never going to be the same. So I say, goodluck purple yoga ..without you I would have not be able to find the perfect yoga instructor, and had the opportunity to experience her love and devotion to the practice and share that practice with her yogi students. read more

I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for about ten years and have been in numerous yoga studios in various places around the world. I'm simply pointing this out for understanding my point of reference. This studio has great feng-shui, great layout, and has an awesome loft where the main yoga studio is located. The instructors are relatable, friendly, helpful, and hands-on when helping/adjusting posture and poses. Moreover, the facilities are kept clean and immaculate...lighting is soft and pleasant. I was so nervous about starting yoga. I have a bad lower back and was really worried i would hurt myself. The moment i walk in to the purple yoga studio i was at ease. Joe and bonnie were the ones who greeted me and gave me a tour. My first thought how beautiful. My first class was a hot yoga class. I loved it!! I have had 3 different instructors and all of them have been so caring and GREAT! The way they help u position yourself if needed and the encouragement is great. One of the best studios I've been to. Great instructors. I take the blue classes, which are around 78 degrees. I like the meditative yoga classes, and their 'Restorative', 'Candlelit', 'Yin', and 'Yoga Nidra' classes are wonderful. Really rejuvenate the mind, body, flexibility, and strength. I took a class at Purple from personal recommendation and a vague curiosity about the discipline. I've tried a few classes with a few different instructors and while every one was amazing, I will be a faithful student of Purple because of Cidney. I understand that yoga is often considered a very personal, internalized and supposedly calming practice but Cidney has put things into a very different perspective for me. He maintains a steady flow of talk throughout the class which I find not only empowering and relevant but very engaging. My mind is never bored but also never so distracted that I am less than fully aware of my body and breathing. Other yoga classes make me feel comfortably isolated mentally, but Cidney somehow manages to create an environment where I feel more connected to those around me and more optimistic about my human interactions in my day-to-day. I haven't yet figured out how he continues to achieve this but he is inspiring me to be better in every aspect of my life through the head space I am able to achieve in his class. I am also learning that yoga is a very personalized practice. There isn't one exact way to do each pose and Cidney encourages us to explore variations and movements that will be most right for each of us although he is very specifically helpful and attentive to requests for clarification. I feel very blessed to have found this studio and Cidney specifically. read more

This is the most professionally managed yoga studio I've practiced at. I love the new app for class sign-ups. They have excellent instructors but my most all-time favorite is Asako Inoue, and I think she is just the rock star of the entire studio! The depth of her knowledge and precision of her cuing is just top notch, and she herself is the first-class accomplished practitioner! It's rare that you get such a practitioner plus an amazing teacher all in one but Asako is it! Her classes have a plot line to them, they unfold so logically, she takes you on a journey, it's like storytelling through yoga at its best every single time. And you feel how you're growing in your practice. She taught me the importance of breathing, which is now like a second nature to me! She is punctual, super friendly, and unique! A professional of rare caliber! If you haven't taken her classes, please do so, she will change your yoga practice for better. I'm a better yogi because of her!
