First time doing a escape room, and I'm so glad I did. We were greeted right away when we walked in. We did the Farewell room which has a 30% success rate. The room was decorated like an apartment with a kitchen, hallway, and bedroom. Looked really authentic. The staff watches you via video camera throughout the entire process, and they give you great clues if they see you struggling. All 8 of us had a fantastic time. Very clever riddles. We didn't conquer, but the staff member was excellent about explaining to us the remaining 2 locks we couldn't figure out. We will definitely return! FYI, No phones allowed, no picture taking or snap chats inside the room. However they let you take a group photo in the lobby before leaving. Signage on outside of building is not good. read more

My husband had heard of the Escape Room from his brother. We both like puzzles and decided to go to check it out. We made reservations the day before for 2 of the 3 puzzles they have, Farewell and Crimson Storm. You have one hour to complete each puzzle to escape the room. The staff was very friendly and was pretty good at giving you clues when you looked stumped as they could watch you on the cameras. We were not able to complete Farewell in the hour as it was just the two of us. If we had about 5 more minutes, maybe one other clue, and an extra set of thinking caps I think we could have gotten it. We had 2 other people join us for Crimson Tide which definitely helped since not everyone thinks the same. We were able to solve the puzzle with about 12-13 minutes left. The next time we are in Phoenix, we would definitely come back to do the third puzzle which only has a 6% completion rate. I'm also intrigued to go to their other locations as each location has different puzzles. Highly recommend this business. read more

We had a great time at The Puzzle Effect! Everything about the experience was great from the games to the cleanliness and staff. We originally were only going to do Curse of the Emerald Seas but we ended up doing a second room right after, The Path. Both rooms were great. Very well themed and great quality rooms for the price. I'm usually a bit weary going to an escape room that's under $30 for the fear of a lack of quality but these rooms looked and felt great. I wanted to give a HUGE shout out to Ashley. We had a group of six do Rescue! Four of us have done many escape rooms before, we have even done the Gilbert Escape Room - where we heard about the sequel to one of their rooms was here. So with Rescue, I liked the concept of it. I'm going to say it wasn't the best room I've been in. I had higher hopes for this considering we LOVED Cashout at the Gilbert Escape Room. My group of family and friends have done a few escape rooms across the valley. This was by far the worst experience we ever had. The game master gave us a run down of how all the locks worked, let us know that there were lamps inside because it was going to be pretty dark. We requested not to get any clues or hints unless we asked specifically for them. The game master agreed and lead us in. She said the timer would start as soon as she shut the door. She walked out, she the door, and nothing happened. The sound effect were still playing so we decided to go ahead and start even though our timer hadn't started moving. We called out about it but nothing changed so we just went along. About 10 minutes in we yelled out that we needed out first hint. Nothing happened. We yelled quiet a few times for a hint and that the timer wasn't working. She had also said if we were on the right track we wouldn't get a hint so we figured we must be doing something right. At exactly 46 minutes the timer started. After yelling again that we were stuck and needed help we finally got our first clue at 30 minutes. We did not complete the room. When the timer ran out a different game master came in to walk us through the other stuff that we missed and told us we were 7 minutes away from finishing. We told her our frustration with the not getting clues and the timer not working, to which she told us she came in 30 minutes in and was told not to give us any clues. We left and discussed everything as a group. We decided to go in an ask for even a partial refund. We paid full price for 6 people. And all the would offer us was four gift cards to come back for another room. We are very unhappy with how this turned out and will not be back. Do not recommend to anyone. read more

My husband and I were on a double date with our teenage son and his girlfriend. We had the BEST experience! We did the Crimson Storm with another couple and we were a couple minutes away from solving it! We enjoyed it so much we stayed and did the Grim Stacks puzzle next! That puzzle was just the four of us because it was getting late and we solved it with 29 seconds to spare! I don't know who puts these puzzles together, but they sure are clever! We really enjoy this location. We had been there once before and almost solved their Farewell escape. So we only have one left and then we will have to wait until they create new puzzles. She recommended Grim Stacks and proceeded to thoroughly explain all the rules to us. She took really great care of us and facilitated a great experience. First time we have done an escape room. We went with our 10 year old twin daughters. And in a room with 27% rare of completion, we finished it and solved the puzzle!! I must say that the Phoenix Escape Room is awesome! My daughter decided she wanted to get kidnapped by pirates for her birthday, so we obliged. I called ahead and asked if they had space there or somewhere near the building where we might do cake after. The manager was so kind and went far above and beyond a simple yes or no. Way far beyond. She set up their break room with a table and balloons and everything and let us stay a little bit longer to do the cake and presents. Seriously awesome! We visited Phoenix Escape Room for my friend's bachelorette party and had a blast. We didn't escape the room but it was fun trying. The staff was very high energy and did a great job explaining the room rules. We did a poor job RSVP'ing and ended up with one extra person in the room but staff didn't even flinch, just set it up with enough supplies for everyone. We all agreed they gave just enough clues to challenge us without making it too easy or letting us give up. Every member of the party was able to solve something. We ended up beating the Rescue course (2% success rate) with 52 seconds left so we felt like real detectives! ;) A lot of people thought it would be scary to be "locked in a room" but we were too engrossed in looking for clues to think about it - plus, a staff member watches you from a camera and can type messages to you on the screen. Phoenix Escape room is very professional, organized and clean, and the staff woman who helped us is incredible at customer service. Personally, I don't understand why people would seek this type of activity out, but it was cool to try out. It reminds me of forced team building exercises I'd have to do for work or at leadership conferences, so I'm a little biased. Anyway, you're placed into a fake mystery with your team and have an hour to "escape," or solve the mystery. It's like a childhood fantasy come alive - you are actually in the case so you can touch, look, and problem solve in the scene. The case made you think but was made easy enough so you wouldn't get stumped too long on any one thing (staff watches you on camera and provides hints from time to time). I felt the clues and mystery were one dimensional, but I suppose, if it wasn't, it'd be too hard. This is definitely a good group activity. Our group fortunately solved the case with a minute thirty left... And hence why I guess people come back: The best part was winning. Or if you lose, probably trying to figure out where you went wrong. It's tiered difficulty from what I heard, with different mysteries to keep you coming back. We completed "R.E.S.C.U.E - TRACK DOWN AND RESCUE A MISSING GIRL BEFORE A BOMB GOES OFF." Overall, a unique and simulating PG-rated experience. read more

Had a great time! We did the Pirate themed room. There were 4 of us and it was just right. Great props, brain teasing challenges, and nice staff. We solved the room with a few minutes to spare. They were good at giving hints when they could tell we stalled for a while. But it didn't feel over done or like it gave anything away.
