Wanted to support this small halal-friendly business because the concept has potential, but the experience felt a little underwhelming overall. When I walked in, I only got a quick "hi" and wasn't really acknowledged until after another customer was helped. To be fair, there was only one employee working and she seemed to be doing her best, so this felt more like a management issue than an employee problem. The biggest disappointment was being told they were out of the white/yogurt sauce after I already paid for the momos. That sauce is kind of essential to the dish, so it made the experience feel incomplete. Inventory and communication could definitely be improved. The deal was advertised as 16 it was closer to 18. The atmosphere also felt very empty and quiet. I honestly think this place would benefit from more community events, poetry nights, music, or something to bring more life and energy into the space. I still appreciate what they're trying to do and I do want to support small culturally diverse businesses. There's potential here, but right now the experience feels a bit subpar and unpolished. PYO Chai is a fusion spot bringing Nepalese, Taiwanese and South Asian flavors together! Their menu is innovative and their fusion works well! They even have board games for customers, so it's an appropriate spot if you'd like to chill with your friends! I went with my friend and we got the Veggie Momo ($12), the Paneer Momo ($13) and drinks. The Momos are shareable and each order has 8 pcs, along with hot sauce, sweet chili sauce and a yogurt sauce for dips. My favorite dip was the sweet chili sauce. I was pretty excited for the Paneer Momos and they didn't disappoint me. We also got the Iced Passion Fruit Green Tea and the Kulfi Falooda Milk Tea with Boba ($8.85, you need to pay an extra $1 for the Boba). I tried the Kulfi Falooda and it had strong floral flavors that felt a bit overpowering for me. It didn't taste bad and was definitely a new experience. They filled half of the cup with ICE ! Never seen a scam like this in any bobba tea place where they filled half the cup with ice. I asked them to remove the ice the cup was half full. I think they used previously flavor cup that was not wash properly and still had flavor of taro. We ordered 3 to go and by the time we all tried it we were not happy. We feel it's a good spot and have had good experience before that's why we are giving 3 star or else would have been 1* experience from us as all 3 drinks were wasted due to mix flavor issues. read more

Gotta tell you, I can't really give a review of this store's product. Just the dismissive attitude of the help. Today I walked into the store on Covert Avenue for the first time. It was empty except for me and the male worker behind the counter. I was not greeted or acknowledged as I stood at there for around two minutes. The worker never looked up as he was filling orders (apparently online or phone). Perhaps they were more important to him than the human being in his presence. After a while it began to feel uncomfortable. I calmly gave up and silently walked out of the store. Guess the fellow behind the counter didn't care at all because he never addressed or even looked at me. So sad. I'll never go back to this unfriendly place. I've been waiting to check this place for a while and after reading the reviews about the long lines, I took advantage of a rainy afternoon. Let me just tell you, this worked, no line at all. From what I understand this is a combination of traditional bubble teas with more distinctive favors and add ons. For example some of their most popular drinks are the falooda and mango kulfi and both have a scoop of ice cream on the top of the tea as well as what they call "basil seeds" the girl said it's just like chia seeds. The seeds aren't reasonable noticeable when you're drinking the tea so do not be afraid to try this. Now the ice cream for me personally made the drink way too sweet. I didn't check sweet level was an option but I would def inquire because it was just too sweet. The flavors were pretty good though. Now for the price, for 2 medium regular size drinks we paid $17 and change. Now I find this a tad over priced, the drink it's good but to me it isn't just worth this much for a non alcoholic beverage. I would say you should def try this place at least once, it's totally Instagramable, not sure if that's even a word. But yes take a cute pic against the green wall with you tea. We went here for the Chai, and the Chai served! Very unique and different from the Chai you would get at Starbucks. I would say more flavors, but it's different. You'll need to spend a little time studying the options! I ultimately got the desi masala chai bubble tea ($6.25), which had the vibrant, fresh flavors of cardamom, clove, and cinnamon. My partner agreed it was one of the best he's had. For myself, I got their signature Malai Kulfi Milk Tea ($8.25). While they call it "simple," nothing about the drink was simple! It was very good, rich, decadent. I enjoyed the different textures. I will say, however, that it ultimately was too sweet. I love sweet stuff, but this drink really threw me off for an hour or so. Love that they have south east asian inspired drinks & the basil seed topping adds some great texture for the creamier kulfi drinks. I will say, I do wish there were more topping choices (especially for the falooda kulfi - would love to see vermicelli) but overall obsessed. Quick breakdown of the drinks Ive personally had: Mango Kulfi- delicious 4.5/5. Wish I could control the sweetness, its sweet & creamy & would recommend adding basil seed for some texture Mango milk tea- 5/5 no real tea flavor, think banana milk/instant taro milk tea type of vibe. Is generally pretty sweet so I would recommend getting ~50% sweetness to start Falooda Kulfi- 4/5 vastly over simplified but as someone who has never had falooda it reminded me of a rose-y milk shake. It was very thick and sweet so I ended up blending it up with a little ice & milk and it made it more like a typical milk tea vibe. Fruit teas- 3/5. As someone who loves tea & strong tea flavor I was a little disappointed in the fruit teas because they dont have a strong tea flavor. If you're a fan of bubble tea or a boba fanatic, PYO Chai has to be on your destination list of boba shops to visit. PYO Chai is probably one of them most unique boba shops I've been to since they offer bubble tea with unique Indian inspired flavors to tickle the palate. The use of spices and texture combinations are very unique with more than the usual boba add ins. Two of the more unique add in choices are the basil seeds and kulfi ice cream. The two drinks I've tried so far are the Falooda Kulfi Milk Tea and the Rooh-Afza Milk Tea. Both were delicious with floral notes. Looking forward to returning again in the future. The inside is nicely decorated with a wall mural and a green wall that is set up for some great photo ops. The staff is very friendly. When I went there was a line, but it moves fast. Pyo Chai has been open for 2.5 months but I'm mad I just found out about it!! This place is so good and the flavors are unique compared to other Bubble tea shops. I went in 15 minutes before closing and they still had a long line to get in the store. The staff were super friendly as well. You can scan a menu outside and there is parking in front of the store. I got a Falooda milk tea and my friend got a Mango Kulfi Milk Tea. We both loved our drinks and they weren't too sweet, which we were afraid of! We added brown sugar boba to both and texture was soft and chewy. I highly recommend the Falooda Milk Tea with basil seeds & tapioca. It tastes similar to a typical rose milk tea a but very unique in flavor. Not only is it aestheticly decorated with local artist's work, but the art is desi inspired, and gives the whole place a modern desi style to it. It is a small space, so there is limited seating/no seating, and their capacity is 6 people at a time, meaning you better go as soon as they open, or wait in line for some time. The wait is worth it though. I tried their falooda bubble tea and kulfi bubble tea and let me tell you, I wish I had more space in my belly for another drink because they were delicious. They hit the flavors perfectly, and I'm not even a fan of kulfi. There's the typical boba on the bottom with a basil seeds on the top, pistachios throughout, and kulfi floating on top. It has a beautiful mural and a faux leaf wall that's great for photo ops. The vibe is definitely more upbeat and it seems to be a local favorite among high school/college students. Now, onto the drinks. What's better than bubble tea? Bubble tea mixed with kulfi, that's what! While I think it's a cool idea, it's also an idea that could easily lead to diabetes...but that didn't stop me from trying it! For those who don't know, kulfi is South Asian ice cream that is much denser than traditional ice cream. It usually contains nuts and spices, and I can easily replace my blood with it. I had a large Falooda Kulfi Milk Tea ($8.25), which may seem pricey except that it is basically 3 desserts in 1: Falooda, Kulfi, and Milk Tea. If you don't know what Falooda is, Google it and then try it right away. To say this drink was sweet is an understatement. I expected it to be sweet but I wasn't prepared for just how sweet it was. I should have asked for less sugar, which I will do next time. The bubble tea itself wasn't too impressive and tastes really sweet even for the normal sugar level. The Kulfi was creamy and rich, and I enjoyed it. My only qualm is that the drink was too sweet, which made it hard to actually taste the different components of the drink and to really enjoy the drink. For me, it was around an 8/10. If you're in the area, this spot is definitely worth a visit for the novelty drink it sells. If you're not a fan of sweet, I recommend asking for less sugar or trying one of the other drinks. Probably the best boba tea I've ever had. I will forever keep coming to this place now whenever I visit my family. I usually go for taro, but decided to switch things up and went for the pina colada milk tea since it sounded enticing and added basil seeds to it. It was amazing! Not overly sweet but just the perfect level of sweetness. The brown sugar boba was sooo good. Can not recommend this place enough! The staff was also really friendly. We ordered the malai kulfi milk tea and the desi masala chai, it was really delicious! The ambiance of the store was really hip, running with the desi theme and being a boba tea shop. It's comfortable and really cool little shop outside of New York City. On a side note, we were driving back to Maryland and stopped by the two guys and gal working were super friendly and helped us out with some things we needed before we hit the road. I got the mango kulfi drink with basil seeds, no boba and their new flavor pan. The mango drink was the perfect level of sweetness and really did taste like fresh mangoes. My friends got the malai kulfi and falooda drink, I tried those too and they were AMAZING! The falooda drink was definitely my favorite, it tasted of cardamom and pistachios with a hint of rose flavor. I got the mango kulfi with brown sugar boba. So delicious! I've never had this style of boba before but imagine mango lassi to the perfect boba consistency with some mango kulfi ice cream on top. I also got some basil seeds which added a nice crunchy texture. Such a delicious, well balanced combo.
