Discovered this hidden gem a year ago when I went a Saturday night. The live music on Saturday consisted of house music which I'm not a fan of but the bartender told me Friday nights is Reggae. I've been twice already and both times I enjoyed myself. I even took my co worker who's Jamaican and she loved it. The ambience is chill and not super crowded unlike other places in downtown west palm. I haven't ordered their food yet but next time I'll definitely try it out. Eclectic eats, its fun, casually divey decor, a spacious backyard with a craft cocktail back bar, comfy outdoor seating, and a place for live music and dancing make this a very chill hipster homesteader hang for the Northwood nouveau. My Banh mi burger was really good, and the rest of the menu, while limited to the smaller kitchen, also had stuff that I'd like to try. Service is excellent. The bartenders are top drawer, and just as eclectic as their often ersatz cocktails. When you arrive, you'll often see the small front bar empty. Drift through the door to the back and you'll hit Pétanque Central. Definitely a reason to drop into Northwood's growing restaurant Renaissance. read more

I live in Old Historic Northwood so I'm partial to the businesses here, but Pentanque stands out as one of my favorites. The staff are always friendly, as well as helpful with cocktail or food suggestions. I always sit outside, in the back, because the atmosphere is casual and inviting. I've been here on nights they have trivia, as well as when they have small jazz combos. It's always a fun time! The menu isn't complicated, burgers, salads, charcuterie, kebabs...but it is ALL delicious. Of course I'll be going back, often. We came here because we saw such good reviews on Google but did not have a good experience. The bartenders are beyond unprofessional - rude, smoking cigarettes, drinking, and just sloppy overall. Visiting from Arizona, I heard about this spot from a local and decided to check it out. At first I walked in and it was a tiny bar area with little to no room. Then, a staff member walked up and said "the party is in the back". Walked out back and the atmosphere was incredible and unique. Small stage for a live band and small dance floor. I like this place. You would have never of known it was there though because they have zero attention grabbers on the front. This is an up-and-coming neighborhood as well so walking around in the dark looking for a place I've never been was a bit sketchy for me. I wouldn't walk around alone based on the poorly lit sidewalks. I walked in and asked the person behind the bar if there was an out side. He said I don't know why don't you go through that door? I don't think that was a very nice way to address a customer but I got over it. The front room is dark with red light bulbs so it kind of looks like you're entering the gates of hell. The back patio is where all the action was that night and it was pretty cool. I think they should get rid of the bocce ball because it takes up so much space and it could be used for better seating. Also, who plays bocce ball except Italian parents? There was also a bit of confusion when my friends and I were ordering. We were a big party but no one really gave us the low down of how things should be ordered. I'd say that their food service isn't up to par (for larger parties) but the drinks are hot fire. Bartenders are hipster snobs but know what they're doing. The music is not typically what I listen to so that wasn't a big draw for me but you could tell that the DJ was really into what he was playing. That was good enough for me. Again, I will stress the deliciousness of the drinks but it was chaotic once more people started showing up. We are huge fans of meat and cheese plates and ordered quite a few the night we were there. I however was disappointed. First of all, The meat plate was lacking meat. There was essentially two slices of 4 different meats. The rest of the plate was full of things we couldn't figure out. An explanation of what was on the plate would've been a big help for both the meat and the cheese. Some people are picky and not as adventurous as others so a list or a note of some sort explaining each item would've been ideal. The presentation was great though. The $30 meat plate did not live up to the price tag. The cheese plate Had more cheese but was severely lacking in the bread area. Again, there was no explanation of what cheeses were on the plate which isn't typical. The menu doesn't provide any info either. It says just an assortment of cheeses, not really anything that helps the customer. I'll go back and try a burger. Get the coconut mojito. read more

Super cool place, indoor and outdoor not with a cool edgy vibe did not expect to find in South Florida. Interesting mixed crowd, young and old, all races, styles, nice to see. Just here for a couple of drinks so don't read too much into the review, but I was put off by the service. Not especially busy but took forever for the bartender to spare us a moment, I had to follow up for our order, and then likewise the bill took so long. I'm talking just a couple of drinks at the bar. Bartenders engrossed with buddies, not taking care of business. I learned that the name comes down a game similar to bowling / shuffle board. I'd say this is one of he coolest little places I've been to in downtown WPB. It has a huge back yard with a ton of fans. The vegetable tray was amazing and the absinthe drink is really cool! read more

Last minute search for Reggae turned up this place on a Friday night. Food was hit and miss, fish skewers wonderful, vegetarian planche not so much (ratatouille recipes are readily available, menu j/k). Very cool space with uneven footing to dance in backyard bar space. Soca "DJ's" playing reggae night are lousy, BUT this isn't Brooklyn, Kingston, or even Port of Spain - just semi-sexual predators looking to degrade women on dancefloor... willing participants I guess. read more

I love when I find secret hideaways that aren't really secret. This place is one of those spots. Me and a group of friends happened here on a Wednesday and it was love at first sip. They offer free popcorn at the bar. There's a popcorn machine which I thought was pretty awesome. I've never seen a popcorn machine at a bar. You go through the back door and that is this relaxing outdoor space that you where you can eat, drink and chill with some bomb ass music. I had my first introduction to absinthe here. The bartender didn't disappoint. The preparation using the sugar and the water was really nice. It was a great drink to start the evening. I forgot the name of the band but I think they're local. They were fantastic! I'd definitely go back for them. You really can't go wrong with this place definitely check it out. It almost made me forget that it was Wednesday and not Friday. read more

A for atmosphere: great back yard under a tree, with cool patio like furniture, a pétanque court and Tuscan lights. Best vibe is when you go a little later on one of the many nights they have live music. A for food: one of the best burgers you'll have in the area (and maybe ever). I've had a few of them here, all were superb. Nothing fancy. Just great, simple ingredients and smart cooking. Meat melts in your mouth. Fries with three dipping sauces are a treat. read more

I've been to Petanque several times, this is the "safe harbor" in Northwood when comes to meet local people, have good cocktails and listen good music, live or DJ. The atmosphere is truly "bohemian", not the perfect place, but the stylish one. The kitchen is open till late and the food is absolutely good.
