This place is so good. I always leave uncomfortably full because I can't restrain myself. They clearly mark vegetarian and gluten free options on the menu and staff are knowledgeable. Atmosphere is comfortable and casual. My only critique of this restaurant is that they don't offer hot tea (which I consider to be a staple with Chinese food). Recommended dishes: hot and sour shredded potato salad, stir fried bok choy, Chong Qing chicken (!!!), sweet and sour pork spare ribs, wok fried cheung fun (!!!!), and shrimp fried rice. read more

Four solid stars for a modern Chinese meal that blew my socks off! My friend chose this spot for dinner and I went in with zero expectations. In the end, I found there's a lot to love. To sip, there's an ample selection of cocktails, sake, wine and beer. I tried the special (non-alcoholic) lemonade which was black cherry flavored and very refreshing. We ordered a few dishes to share: chicken and shrimp wontons, stir-fried brussels sprouts, chong qing chicken, and duck lo mein. I also got a pork belly bun just for me. They spaced out the dishes pretty well so our small table wasn't overloaded, but in general, it did come out fast. I truly enjoyed everything we tried! This was a solid amount of food for two of us, but we did leave super full (and with zero leftovers). The chong qing chicken was something I've never had before and I would definitely recommend it but only if you can handle spice - it was fire! Everything was packed with flavor and left me wanting more. The restaurant itself is pretty small and tables are packed in. I was not impressed by Q House. We were excited to see that almost all of the menu could be made vegetarian. When we got there, I was disappointed to learn that just meant taking out the protein and not adding in any tofu or other protein (and of course charging the same price)!! What a rip off, misleading, and one of my biggest pet peeves. We also tried the bok choy and the fried eggplant. The bok choy was pretty disappointing as well, it felt undercooked and bland. Q house was a finalist for 2018 best new restaurant James Beard Award. They didn't win but to be nominated earns bragging rights not just in Denver but in the entire country. Chef Lin worked under David Chang's Momofuku in NYC, and the dinner only menu is concise with less than 20 items. I also like their website saying this is a modern 'Chinese' restaurant, not your typical Asian fusion place that has no focus. After visiting three times now my three favorite dishes are Pork belly bun, Beef tongue and tripe, and Yunnan Ham fried rice. My top choice for Chinese food as of April 2019. read more

Disappointing, bland, American. The vibe is pretty fancy. Dark wood, bar along the entire side, abstract painting. It didn't look Chinese at all, which should have been my first warning. The black bean fried chicken wings were excellent. Very crispy skin, tender inside, and it had a delicious umami black bean flavor without any powdery bean residue. The sauce seemed okay, don't ask me, I don't do tomatillo. The wontons were wontons. I was expecting fried chicken skin, inside or on the side, but the wontons are just mushy thick dumpling wrappers around mushier, under-salted, bland, homogenous meat glop inside. It's sitting on a bed of soy sauce and vinegar, which I didn't appreciate, since I hate vinegar. I really wish there was one of those little baskets of soy sauce, chili, and vinegar, or at the very least serve the soy sauce and vinegar in separate containers for easier dosing, and to prevent the tiny plate getting swamped with sauce, and maybe the mushy wrappers getting mushier. The miso bok choy was good. Very crisp yummy texture, subtle umami flavor, slightly undersalted but I give it a pass since it's meant to be a side dish to the spicy salty stuff. The potato salad was under seasoned, and also very spicy, according to the potato salad fanatics at the table. I hate that stuff. The fried head on shrimp was super crispy. They give you a ton of extra fried crumbly stuff in the bowl and some krupuk. It's a very good textural experience, but it really suffers from a lack of salt. I really wanted to like it but it was so bland. The duck lo mien is disappointing. It desperately needs more salt or soy sauce or something, it has interesting duck and mushroom flavor but it's all so muted from the lack of salt. The duck is in disappointingly small shreds that aren't satisfying to bite into. Oreo cheesecake is fire. The whipped cream was super yummy idk what was in it. Also, everything is overpriced. The service was good. Waiter was friendly, water was topped off often, which was good since some of that stuff was spicy. I feel bad because the kitchen did a great job with texture, and the flavors were interesting, but overall, it was a bad to mediocre performance because almost every dish was bland, and the more Chinese the dish, the blander it became, which is not what you wanna see when you're craving Chinese food. "Q" like cue? I like the international style of this food presentation. When I was singing in Hong Kong trying out my linguistical patternizations of my "International style" song writing, I met Lee Jun Fan (Bruce Lee known Master martial artist). The "Q" in this restaurant reminds me that Lee Jun Fan's father Lee Hoi-chen was a famous opera singer in H.K. and he said to me I was reminiscent for him of his Dad! I saw this place pop up on one of my many drives down Colfax. It looked interesting so I had to give it a try! My friend and I stopped in on a Saturday night around 5:30pm and found that since we didn't have reservations we were offered a bar seat. No big. I love sitting at the bar! You can see how the kitchen works which I think is a big sign of how successful a restaurant can be. I ordered the pork belly bun ($4/bun) and chicken salad ($7) off the happy hour menu. Both had great flavors. I have to say I've had better pork belly buns in my experiences but this one didn't disappoint. The cut of pork I got was pretty fatty, yum. The toppings were good and the texture was there but I felt like something was missing. Maybe some acidity? I don't know. I still enjoyed it. The Bang Bang Chicken Salad was fantastic. Like whoa buddy, just the right amount of Sichuan spice. It has that quiet, slow burn that numbs your tongue. It's exactly what it should do! I loved the crispy cabbage and the chicken was super moist and flavorful. The peanut sauce mixed with the spice was super delicious. Quite the flavor explosion! We also ordered the duck lo mein. I thought the duck was prepared nicely. Super tender, but maybe a little too salty. It balanced out with the noodles okay though. The noodles were delicious! It was a really great dish overall. My only complaint is that it is a bit overpriced at $17. I think this would be a great place to try Asian/Asian American fusion. They are spot on with their spice and flavor combos. So - I know at the very very least, the execution would be flawless. And it is. This is not Chinese. This is Chinese/Asian American Fusion. Set your expectations because if you are looking for "authentic cuisine," you are just being silly. This is NOT Federal Blvd. The Deal: 1) Happy Hours from like 4-6pm. 2) Always get the Buns. Always. 3) Very Large portions on the Proteins and Carbs to share 4) Blackbean Mussels are delish with a portion of fries. Adventurous authentic. I'm Chinese, my parents are from Taiwan, there are some things you can't find in Denver like pig ear salad! Loved it, watermelon radish, tofu, so good. Dan dan noodles were on point, my only critique is I feel like they used ramen noodles when they could use Chinese noodles. Fried rice is very different with smoked trout and it's definitely worth trying. Chong Qing chicken has the classic Sichuan mouth numbing feeling. Overall, we were super happy with all the food. Also, we were late for our reservation and they were still able to seat us. No private parking so give yourself some time to find something on the street or the neighborhood. I had great hopes after positive reviews from friends, but this place disappoints. I found the offered cocktails expensive and couldn't place their flavor into a complementary relationship with Chinese flavors. But there was no need for that. The dishes we ordered (fried eggplant, Chong Qing chicken, pork ribs, and bok choi) were odd tasting compared to the range of Chinese or Thai food, but most of all lacked umami and flavor. The chicken was just deep fried breaded chicken balls fried with hot peppers. It needed a sauce. The fried eggplant was ok but lacked the umami and depth of Chinese or Asian cooking. It too had a deep fried character, while we expected stir fried. The bok choi was tasteless. The attempt to mix western and eastern approaches was incompetent and unimaginative. Stopped in for a mother's Day dinner with the kids today. We were seated pretty quickly and our server, Toni, was a sweetheart. We have the chicken wings to start, sesame noodles, the fried chicken and chicken skins and a dish I can't remember the name of but was essentially a rolled-up noodle that was cooked and pork belly. That last dish was Ahhh-mazing! I thought dinner would be good, but it really exceeded all of our expectations and we all ate until it hurt. The coconut cheesecake was the perfect finish. While I'd like to give it a 4.5 star rating I'm rounding up for this spot. The food is solid, tasty, well seasoned, and satisfying. It's consistently good and we like to get take out. Sadly they don't take any phone calls so you have to go to the bar and order in person. That's a minus, but gotta do what you gotta do. I have not had upscale Chinese food in a long time and I forget how incredibly flavorful it is versus that usual junk you get from take out spots. Looking at the menu I didn't expect I would be impressed but I was wrong. Decided to try this place after it made the 5280 Denver restaurants list. The place is a bit toward the smaller side with around 12 tables, excluding the bar seats. It was super crowded when we arrived at 9pm on a Saturday. Would highly recommend making a reservation for the weekends. We started with the brisket salad which was amazing. It was mostly slices of brisket rather than a salad. The portion is good for two to share. Next we had the wontons which are super popular and you might miss out on them if you arrive late like us. They were great a bit to the chili side but not too much. Next we had the fried eggplants, delicious and the sauce was sweet which went well with the dish. As for the main dishes we had the monkfish and the duck. Both were very generous in terms of portions. The duck is mostly carb with some pieces of duck. We liked the duck dish more the monkfish, although the monkfish was good as well. Glad we ordered dessert even though we were full. The Oreo cheesecake was insanely good. I had lower standard for the dessert given it was an Asian place serving Oreo cheesecake but turn out this was my favorite dish. The service was great and would highly recommend trying out Q house. I could not stop thinking about how good this place was! We were looking for a restaurant with vegan option to accommodate our friend, and found this place. Everything was so delicious! We did not miss meat at all. We got potato fingers and eggplant for appetizer. The eggplant was on point! Crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, slathered in a sweet sour sauce. We also got their fried rice, really savory and smoky. You can really taste the 'wok' flavor. We also got Chong Qing Cauliflower (you can get this with chicken). This dish is the winner for me! Lightly coated with batter,' makes it super crispy yet light. The dish was perfectly seasoned, spicey peppery, with a little bit of five spice. You need to get this when you come! Taiwanese-American fusion food. Gua Bao was on point w the peanut sprinkles just like how it's done in Taiwan. The chili oil wonton was ok, the wonton skin was too thick for my taste. Not sure if they made it in house or if it's store bought, it was too dough-y for someone who grew up in Taiwan w Northern Chinese roots (all about the dough). Had shared a few different dishes - the fried rice was intolerably salty, the fried shrimp extremely delicious, and the brussel sprouts were delicious as well. I'm addicted to their house made chili oil, I used it on everything. We also order a noodle dish but that was incredibly salty as well. Not sure if the kitchen staff has tasted their own food, because the over use of seasoning is really more of a turn off.... maybe I have to ask for it unseasoned next time and salt to my own taste..... Not sure if it's possible for Q House to have anything that doesn't taste amazing. Q House is an Americanized asian restaurant. I had the pork belly bao while my husband had the bang bang chicken salad. What a delicious bao! They offer a Happy Hour in the evening from 4pm until 6pm, which we just barely missed. As part of their happy hour, they include some of their appetizers such as the pork belly bun and bang bang salad for less. After apps, I had the duck lo mein while my husband ordered the chong qing chicken. We specifically went to Q House because my husband was craving chong qing chicken. I tried it and it was great, complete with the spicy numbing peppers! A plus is that because Q House is americanized, the chicken is boneless! (Authentic Chinese places usually offer chong qing chicken with small bones intact). Now on to the duck lo mein... Oh wow, sooo delicious! And with duck confit! Q House does offer gluten free and vegan options. Although they offer gluten-free options, cross contamination is high. Staff is very friendly and service is quick as well. The interior is on the smaller side, but they have seating also at the bar and chef's counter. At the chef's counter you can watch the chefs prepare the food which is pretty neat. I figured it was going to be an average restaurant and wasn't particularly interested in trying it out. However, after reading the newest review in 5280 that names Q House as one of the best restaurants in Denver, my husband and I booked reservations for a late dinner on a Sunday night. When we walked in, it was packed. Probably a lot of other people who had the same awakening after the 5280 article. We were seated immediately by a very friendly manager and greeted warmly by our server. The menu has ample cocktails, beer, and wine, and the food is meant to be share-able. So, my husband and I ordered a smaller plate to split (the bang bang chicken salad) and we each ordered a plate for ourselves from the so-described "starch" section of the menu. My husband had the stir-fried mee fun and I ordered the fried rice with sausage links, corn, and peas. It sounds like a strange fried rice, but it took on such a nice smoky flavor from how it was fried and it was delicious. Everything we ate was excellent, and the portion sizes were HUGE, so we literally took home leftovers from each part of the meal and that fed us for the next day's lunch. All of that for a very reasonable price with great service. The menu seems to change fairly often with some core staples of the house, so we're excited to go back soon! read more

I never ended up eating inside during the 3x times I had this so can't comment on the vibe of the place. The food most importantly was so good. Have tried multiple things on their menu: 1. Fried chicken (5/5) - so flavorful, so good. Not overly spicy but has a great Szechuan taste with the numbness. Super crispy, even on takeout. There was also fried chicken skin which was a pleasant treat. 2. Fried eggplant (5/5) - similar to above but pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and how well this maintained its crisp ones. 3. Duck tongue - (4/5) - very good in the moment but not memorable later. Very small dish, good to share. 4. Largely unimpressed by shrimp rice but good filler. Really good food. Based on other reviews, we tried the bang bang chicken salad. Don't expect a Wolfgang Puck chicken salad (though I enjoy that too). It was fresh and flavorful. I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, though I've never met a Brussels sprout I didn't love. Here, they make them into savory flavor bombs. The pork fried rice was not your typical takeout fried rice. If I could have that as my salad for lunch every day I would. Duck Lo Mein- delicious! Chong Qing Chicken- at first I was a little indifferent, fried chicken with chilies...not really my thing. I totally forgot we had ordered that same dish at Hop Alley and I wasn't a fan of it. This is so much better than Hop Alley, super tender chicken with lots of flavor. Not so much heat that you can't eat it but enough to keep you craving for more. All in all, had a great time, good atmosphere, attentive server, host/manager was helpful in the service (busing tables, running food and seating guests). I'm a little bit of a nut for Asian food so forgive me when I say it was just good I sampled around their apps a little and tried the pork bun, the pig ear salad and the pickled vegetables. The pork bun was tops! The pork was perfectly cooked with a little fat on it and tons of flavor! I couldn't really get much of the pig ear in the salad. It was more of a wood ear salad, but maybe I'm an idiot, who knows. Pickled veggies were kind of just veggies in vinegar, no Asian twist. Q House! I've been excited to try this place since it opened but just finally made it there this weekend. I'm happy to report it surpassed my high expectations! We were quoted a 30-40 minute wait and were ushered to a waiting area with bar stools, where we were able to order cocktails and then, wouldn't you know it, they were ready to seat us. We got two spots at the chef's counter, which, in all honesty is my favorite place to sit in a restaurant. I got the Pear Sidecar and my husband had the Fall Root Old Fashioned -- both great -- and we shared four items from the food menu: pork belly buns, Brussels sprouts, chicken and shrimp wontons and the Chong Qing chicken. It's a place that has been on my list for a while and, for those who know me, this might come as a bit of a shock because I'm not a fan of Chinese. In fact, it's on the bottom of the list of cuisines (along with Italian) that I seek out. However, I heard good things about this chef and figured I should give it a shot. I immediately like the space and intimacy of it. Going on Chinese New Year, we should have expected RSVP's although we were there fairly early. The only option was counter sitting, which ended up working out quite nicely. We started with the Brussels sprouts and the bao bun with pork belly. Both on happy hour, both delicious. We actually ordered a second bun and, if I had to do it again, I would have stopped there. That would have been perfect with a glass of wine or even a beer. Looking around I noticed a table had lo mein noodles and they looked amazing. Let's take a step back for a moment, shall we? I am not sure I have had lo mein this century. I'm not kidding! I am wracking my brain and cannot recall a recent time I had them - not even my trip to China. Nevertheless, fantastic. I am happy to try them but it's a pretty big portion, even for two considering the appetizers we had. In the end, this place met my expectations and, in some ways, exceeded them. We read most of these reviews before going to Q last week, and Im disappointed to have to submit this warning. Q House was of the worst dining experiences we have ever had in 14 yrs in Denver. The host is completely rude, zero personality and didnt make eye contact as he walked away with menus to what we guessed was our table. The 44 seats are sandwiched in very tight (the only authentic Chinese aspect to the evening). We ordered one glass of ave red dinner wine ($20) and 4 entrees to share. The spare ribs were the hit-- not awesome but did offer intriguing & unique flavor. The last order for $28 was --Im not exaggerating here at all, a bowl of empty red pepper shells with zero pepper, surrounding 7 friend pieces of chicken that looked and tasted like we were at Popeyes -- no, not even close to Chic! It was offensively horrible. The service was kind but zero training, no check-backs, and always busy at other tables - under-staffed? As we were sad about the pathetic dining experience on our rare night out as a couple, the bill came in at $150 with a $25 tip - 4 small entrees (small!), 1 glass of win and 1 very tiny mocktail ($12) and mostly ice in a 6 oz glass. So dont go if youre hungry, if youre looking for chinese food (waitress did say its fusion taiwanese) and make sure you have room on your card! We wont be back -- easier to go to Popeyes! read more

We went to Q on a rainy evening and had a great meal in a pleasant room. The wings and duck lo mein were outstanding & different from offerings at other Chinese restaurants in town. The pork fried rice was disappointing--glutinous & tasteless-- but the service was outstanding & the check was moderate, especially given the interesting menu. Great place for Modern Chinese food. Staff was attentive and very helpful. Food was amazing! Our waiter recommended his favorite dishes. And we went with his suggestions. Chicken Shrimp wontons in chill oil - Amazing, can't go wrong. Good dish to share with a group. 6pc per order. Crispy Fried chicken wings - perfectly crispy, seasoned with white pepper, garlic and spices + etc. Fried Chinese Eggplant - Great, not too oily. Chong Qing Chicken - Must order and great for sharing. It's the numbing sensation when you take a few bites. Perfectly season along with some fried pork skins mixed in. Not spicy! Duck Lo Mein - Highly recommend! Great balance to end our meal. I'm originally from Los Angeles, SGV area and this place reminds me of home! Smaller location. Modern decor.
