If you're looking for a relaxing spa day, I unfortunately can't recommend Q Spa. I really wanted to love Q Spa but I'm left disappointed. It's super cute, looks clean, and the actual gel manicure I got is great. The nail tech was attentive, careful, and friendly. Here's the bad news: My boyfriend and I came here together. I was getting a gel mani and he was getting a basic pedicure. I booked an appointment 11am that day for 3pm via Yelp. Well, we get there literally right at 3. When we walked in, the women looked at each other like, "who's going to talk to them?" Finally someone does but she just kept yelling "do you have an appointment?!" I tried to tell her and she finally said "oh you're Brittney!" I said yes and waited. We stood at the front desk for 20 mins before she did anything. She told me to pick a color and I reiterated, I need the gel polish. She acted so surprised. And guess what: she didn't get the gel polish!!! We waited a little longer and she sat us both at the pedicure chairs and I kid you not, my boyfriend got his ENTIRE pedicure done before they even started on my nails. He ended up leaving before me because I didn't want him to have to wait. He was there for about 45 mins, I was there for over 2 hours. The actual mani took a normal amount of time but omg I waited f o r e v e r. Finally, my nails are done. The polish was done evenly and clean. (That's the one star.) However, I had a lot of cuticular left. I felt so bad for the little girl who was waiting right after me. Her mom was getting them mani/pedis before a birthday party and they ended up running out of time waiting. I just don't think they have any organization. You can't even tell who runs the place. If I have an appointment, I'd expect a business to be prepared for my arrival. Otherwise, why bother? read more

Overall: Reasonably priced, super clean, and responsibly run mani-pedi-waxing spot with friendly service. Pros: - I specifically wanted to try out Q Spa bc they are committed to paying their aestheticians a living wage and to try to use low chemical polishes and products. I support their approach to their business. - located in a brand new location in the lower haight, this Q Spa has been open for a few weeks. The interior is relaxing, filled with diffuse, natural light, a lot of white and light wood. The raised seats each have a porcelain basin with a nice foot pad for when they are working on your toes. It feels modern, inviting, and clean. - the massage seats are great, one of the best I have ever experienced during a pedicure. The woman next to me also commented on how awesome they were before she left. She said she didn't want to leave because it was so nice. - the basic pedi includes a short foot and calf massage with a scrub and hot stones. The massage was quality, and I would consider splurging on the extra 10 minutes in the future. - they do a great job of shaping, trimming and cleaning up your cuticles, so even without polish, your toes look great. - and, of course, the most important part--my polish looks great! No sloppy spots on the side or large gaps between my cuticles and the polish. Cons: - not exactly a con, it is surprisingly quiet inside. While it is relaxing, it doesn't feel social. This might be a better place to go it alone rather than with a group of girlfriends. - also not exactly a con, there weren't a lot of people there when I was there, so they didn't really try to move us out the door which was nice. But, my friend and I were a little unsure when our polish was dry and when we could put in our shoes. - the online booking system didn't work for me, and I had to resort to calling. Will be awesome when they work out this kink. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood and will go on my regular rotation whenever I need a pedi. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The nails techs seem nice and attentive, but my gel manicure ended up taking two hours, with 40 minutes of it consisting of my nails wrapped in acetone. While the acetone was soaking, three other customers came in as walk-ins after me, were promptly addressed, and left before me (even though were all getting gel removals and a new gel manicure). When I asked them to take the foil off, a young man scraped the preexisting gel off my nails with such force that I instinctually pulled my hand away from the pain. My nail beds look clawed up after. I've been getting gel nails for years and have truly never seen them look so torn up up after a gel removal. The level of force also wasn't necessary because after 40 minutes of soaking, the gel began to peel off itself. There were moments when he was looking out the window as he was removing the gel, resulting in the metal tool digging into my cuticles more than once or the side of my nail bed. I'm only adding in the second star because when a different nail tech took over, she did a great job and was fast, efficient, and gentle. So...that was...nice? Expected, even? Maybe I came on an off day. Maybe they address white women over anyone else. Maybe this whole experience was a hiccup. Whatever it was, it was a pretty awful experience. read more

It's very unfortunate for me to post this review because I really wanted to like this place! I came in on a Thursday night thinking it would be relaxing but it was SO chaotic here. There was one technician for each customer but somehow, everyone was running around. Then of course, as I was getting a pedicure, my technician wasn't paying much attention as she was scrubbing my foot and managed to cut my foot with the callous remover. They immediately went for first aid and sanitized my cut, but this should not have happened in the first place. As a nail salon, this should have been your baseline service. Then as they were finishing my pedicure, they realized they put on the wrong top coat and had to go back-and-forth to fix it. The whole experience felt very disorganized and honestly very stressful. Lastly, to be honest, I had expected them to give me some sort of condolence for cutting my foot but they didn't. That's fine, so I paid without a tip. Then the audacity of them asking for a tip was astounding. Q-Spa, you cut my foot and you're asking for a tip? You better hope I don't get a staph infection from this unnecessary cut. read more

This is the second location for Q Spa (this spot formerly housed Starlynn Beauty Lounge). I have not been to the original Q Spa on Divisadero so I'm not sure how this location compares, but my mani/pedi experience was disappointing. Pros: It wasn't busy on a weekend afternoon so it was quiet and my mani and pedi weren't rushed like some places. The hot stone massage part of the pedicure was lovely and my pedicure overall was well done; excellent polish and a good heel scrub. The decor is definitely an upgrade from the former Starlynn. Cons: Three of my fingernails had mistakes. While the tech fixed one the others weren't well corrected. It's a lot more pricey than Starlynn ($48 vs. I think it was $35), but I didn't think my mani or pedi was significantly better. The big negative for me was the lack of cleanliness. Although they're clearly trying to look super clean I saw some missteps. I would avoid their tea cups (I watched them get "washed" and there was no soap involved) and I watched a woman's dryer be removed from her feet and immediately used on someone else's hands without even wiping it down. Yuck. I really wanted to love this place because it's so close to my house, but I have to say I was really disappointed. read more

Q Spa always does a great job. I normally come here for gel manicures and regular pedicures. The gel mani usually lasts me until my nails grow out and it starts to look weird (meaning it really stays and doesn't chip). Atmosphere is relaxing and buzzy; good music, the option of having hot tea and a Madeline pastry, and everyone who works here is really friendly and helpful. Lovely spa where my sister and I leisurely spent an hour and half getting our mani pedi and catching up. The space is bright, airy and immaculate - and lovely on a Saturday morning. It was nice to see my technician care so much when she was mortified that I may ruin my pedicure because I had on closed toe shoes. After sufficient dry time she still insisted on oiling and wrapping up my toes before I put my shoes on. They did a great job. It's been two weeks since my visit and my pedicure still looks great. This would be my go-to mani pedi spa if I still lived in San Francisco. read more

I made an appointment for 2pm Saturday, walked 5 min early, grabbed a color and was immediately seated. High end decor to mask low end service. Manicure was rushed. Tech used cuticle trimmers that hadn't been autoclaved and had chunks of skin clustered on the surface. What is the point of autoclaving the nail file but not the trimmer? Hot towels used to wrap my arms literally had visible old blood and polish stains on them -- I can't make this up. Reception was absent and a tech was in charge of checking people in for their appointments in between coats of nail polish. You might as well go to one of the cheap walk-in places on Market because that is the service you are getting at Q-Spa. read more

It's fine if you're in a pinch and need something fast and are willing to risk how well it'll turn out. It's a fun spot and good vibe and they are all very nice. The quality is what's lacking. My nails were cut way too short I only wanted them cut a little and they are pretty much now down to the quick. They were also filed uneven and the edges were left very rough. As someone who has really fragile nails, when I can grow them to a normal length it's a big deal and now that's all been ruined and will take another month plus to get back to normal length. Don't show up if you don't have an appointment. read more
