Victoria's is still a solid five stars for hair removal! Since my first review over a decade ago, a few things have changed - the studio moved (just a few blocks east, with better parking in my opinion), I've moved (a few times!), I tried laser hair removal (meh), and Dao has upgraded her electrolysis machine (making her process even faster). Through all the changes, my rating and loyalty remains. I can even walk across the street from where I currently live to get waxed instead of driving across the Bay Bridge and halfway across the city to get to Victoria's, but I still prefer Dao! Dao's efficiency, excellent work, affordable prices, and sweet, chatty demeanor keep me coming back. Although my first Brazilian electrolysis session was over 7 years ago, I have only booked/been able to tolerate 30 minute sessions, 1-3x per year. Certain areas of the body have more stubborn hair that requires more sessions, and Dao is very upfront about all of this. A few weeks after each session I notice less and less hair regrowing; there are certain areas where hair has never come back, and the areas that she continues to work on gets smaller and smaller. I look forward to my next session with Dao and I'm thinking I will ask her health/beauty tips, because she doesn't look a day older than the first day I met her! read more

I've had two sessions with Victoria for electrolysis. She's available over the phone Mondays - Saturdays and easy to make an appointment with. Because I've previously waxed, she recommended I grow out my hair for at least a month before I came in to see her. On my first session, I got my underarms done and we were done in half an hour. I was so scared on my first visit, but wow, it wasn't bad at all. I was just psyching myself out. It honestly just felt like little pricks and it was something I could easily tolerate. This second session, I booked for an hour. She was done with my armpits in less than thirty minutes so she asked me if I wanted to try my bikini area since we had lots of time left. I was so nervous because I thought it would be really painful, but I told her to go ahead. Doesn't hurt to try right? I've heard friends of mine who have tried laser on their bikini area and said they couldn't take the pain. Not sure how laser really works, but electrolysis basically removes individual hairs permanently by inserting a tiny probe into the hair follicle and then zapping the hair. I think that's how it goes...but man was I SO surprised that it wasn't as painful as I imagined. It felt exactly as it did on my armpits. She did spray a little bit of numbing cream so that could've helped. Welp, she convinced me. I'm never going back to waxing, especially if electrolysis is so much better in the long-term... I'm on the road to no more hair FOREVER! Her pricing depends on how much time you book with her. You can do any area you want in the time period you're scheduled. Victoria is AWESOME. When your mother told you that one day boys would think you were pretty and want to kiss and hug and date and do you (in so many words), she left out the part about the ridiculous amounts of time, money, and pain you'd devote over the course of your life to removing it for them. I've started getting bikini waxes about 5 years ago and for my first one I went to a upscale salon in downtown because I figured it would be better. Well all it was was more expensive, a lot more. Dao charges half the rate and is excellent. I hardly ever get any irritation, she is super quick, fast and while the place doesn't look fancy it's absolutely clean. Lets be honest getting a wax isn't about candles and soft music playing in the background, that comes after:) I just want to get in, get out and be done. This has definitely been a long overdue review as I've been going to Victoria for about 7 years now! That in itself should already tell you how I think of her service!!! She has done anything from waxing my eyebrows, upper lip, underarms, and bikini to having electrolysis for my underarms and bikini. She leaves my eyebrows on fleek! Victoria is amazing and knowledgeable at what she does! She creates a comfortable environment for those who are first-timers. Her prices are affordable! She does get booked pretty quickly during weekday evenings and weekends, but nonetheless, I have been able to get last minute appointments in from time to time. I came here based on reviews. From the exterior, the building is nondescript, but I was able to find it because the address was clearly listed above the entrance. I was in the neighborhood 30 minutes earlier than my appointment and thought I'd drop in anyways. As soon as I enter the lady giving a pedicure says, "sit down she'll be right with you." How did she know who I was? And, who exactly is "she?" I was a bit confused, but went with it. A few minutes later, a lady comes out from behind the curtained-room followed by another lady who pulls out her wallet and says, "thanks Dao (sp?)." That was how I learned her name. She told me she'd be right with me and she was. She lead me into the waxing room. Based on Yelp reviews, I hopped on the table prepared for a speedy and more painless than usual brazilian. Dao was mighty efficient and made good use of her tweezers. She was friendly and we had a pleasant conversation during the 15 minutes I spent on her table. Parking wasn't bad at all when I went at 5:45. There were plenty of available spots and even a metered parking spot right in front of the shop. I was able to find free parking on an off street. My only complaint is that maybe she was a bit too efficient with her tweezers. I have a few scabs from her digging the tweezers into my skin. This makes me sad. Scabby beavers are unpleasant. When I felt the tweezers digging in, it was kind of painful and that means a lot coming from me because I'd say I have a high pain tolerance. Dao herself said I have a high pain tolerance. For $40, I may consider coming back here. We'll see how well and how fast my bottom part heals. read more

Ladies who desire a hairless face/body in a clean salon with professional work...look no further! I've been coming here for the past 6 months and I wish I knew about it earlier! her prices are very reasonable, even for a college student. Just FYI, i am persian so my hair is extremely thick and grows in different directions. Dao's work has been able to eliminate hair that other places haven't been able to. Electrolysis- Dao has been doing electrolysis on my sideburns and upper-lip and let me just tell you that there is a VERY noticeable difference. I've tried laser at another place for 2 years and it failed. Electrolysis with Dao for less than 6 months has worked significantly more than the time and money I wasted on laser. One of my favorite feelings is touching the side of my face and to feel the soft, hairless skin after leaving her salon. Although electrolysis is not pain-free, Dao is considerate of the pain and works efficiently to finish. Oh and don't bother looking for pain-free electrolysis. It doesn't exist and if anyone is trying to sell it to you, they're lying =) Eyebrow wax: I've tried so many places around the city for my eyebrows and no one has gotten it right till I came to Dao. This is the ONLY waxer I go to here in San Francisco. I lucked out, moving into an apartment 7 years ago that is across the street from this place. I checked out the reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a chance. 7 years later, I'm still going regularly even though I now live across the city from it. She's that good. This isn't the place you go to if you want to be completely pampered; it's where you go if you want the job done quickly and efficiently and for a great price. Great for a bikini wax, eyebrow wax, brazilian wax, etc. Never been unhappy here, and I've probably come here 30+ times. Dao is amazing at what she does, she's very fast, and she always tries to fit me in last-minute (although I highly recommend making appointments if it's your first one at least a few days beforehand). She sometimes takes walk-ins, but she's so good that you probably have to come back in a half hour or so. She always answers the phone or returns your message, which I appreciate. I love Dao! Victoria's is not the cleanest salon but I think they could improve by just making the place a little more sanitary & appealing. It's definitely not a place I would walk by and want to step in for a salon service -- if you see it in person, you'd know what I am talking about. Also when I called to make an appointment, I had to call from an unrestricted line --she will not receive any calls unless there is full caller ID exposure, a negative business practice that I personally don't care for. This would turn some people away from the get go, especially if your office has security lines. I had to call from a line outside of my work phone in order to get through. So hmmm, let's try to say something nice now -- the location is somewhat convenient if you're already in the 94118 (it's right off of the Geary corridor in the inner richmond) and if you can find a metered parking space. This review is for the electrolysis. I am having my underarms done and have only had two sessions (~1 hour each). Just after two sessions, my hair has noticeably decreased. FYI: Please note that the session duration will decrease over time so the price does become more manageable! Electrolysis is a slow procedure but it's permanent after you finish the sessions. This location is a bit of a drive for me but it is definitely worth it. After an unsuccessful attempt with another electrologist (and being $250 poorer), I'm really glad I found Dao. My underarm hair is very dark and thick so I've always been embarrassed about them. As mentioned, the hair has decreased in numbers after just two sessions so I'm positive that in time, they'll be all gone - forever! Parking: if you scavenge around the residential areas, you can probably find free parking. I usually like to go early just so I'm not late to my appointment and can find parking. But the meter parkings are not too expensive either if you find some on the main road. Price: Reasonable. It's about the same as any other electrolysis salon. Electrolysis seems expensive, but in the end I do believe you will save money (and time) because your hair will be gone forever. Dao is by appointment only! OMG!!! Dow (sp?) is AMAZING!!!! Quick.. efficient.. friendly.. professional... etc... So... this is the first time in my life ever having a Brazilian wax... I've been thinking about getting one but always chickened out. It also doesn't help that my friends would tell me how painful it is. I am so glad I decided to go to Dow! She is amazing! I went to Victoria's based on all the great Yelp reviews. When I walked in the door, the smell of nail chemicals was overwhelming! I was a little scared to be breathing them in since I am pregnant, but I decided to brave it anyway. For someone who is supposed to be all about punctuality, Dao made me wait about 10 minutes for my wax. I also heard her telling a client on the phone that it was not okay to be late and she would have to wait if she was. Yikes! Anyway, the wax itself was okay. I only wanted a plain old wax- not a Brazilian- and it hurt like hell! I may have sensitive skin, but I can't understand those of you that think she is painless. I yelled "OUCH!" out loud several times. Thankfully, she is fairly quick (but not quick enough!), and talks to you during the process to make you distracted. The one thing that caught me off guard is Dao wears the salon phone on her waist and actually answered it several times during the wax! It was very strange to be lying on a table getting waxed while the waxer is standing over you making appointments and talking to people. Dao got down and dirty and waxed areas of my body that had never been waxed before! I actually felt a little violated, but she waxes with such a detached manner that I tried not to worry about it. The other reason for my 3 stars is that I was charged the price of a full Brazilian ($40) when I just had a wax. I mean, yeah, she took off a lot, but that seems pretty pricey for a regular old bikini wax. If I'm going to pay a lot for a wax, I think I'll stick with Lavande Salon on Polk Street. I have only gotten a wax there once, but it was a great experience, and in my opinion, a lot less painful than Victoria's. read more

I've been to Dao's since August and I can't imagine going anywhere else for brazilians. You would think dropping your pants and showing your goodies to a stranger would be awkward, but Dao is just so nonchalant about everything that you kinda just forget that you're about to get your hooha waxed. Until she's ripping the hair out of you. But she's so quick about it and such a good conversationalist that even that isn't too bad. Now for price. $40 for a brazilian?! What a good deal, especially when you can been sure of the sanitation levels! Yeah, you can probably find a sketch nail salon to do a brazilian for $25 - $30 but are you sure it's clean?! For my cooch, I'm willing to pay extra to make sure I don't catch anything. You can watch Dao scoop out an individual cup of wax that she uses just for you. This is her own private business and you can see that she takes pride in her work. If there's anything you're not sure about or just have any questions, she'll gladly answer them if you just asked. Dao is straight forward and she's really nice. She really tries to fit you in even if it means that she works late. Because she puts in this much effort, no shows just end up wasting her time and it's disrespectful. Call if you're going to miss your appointment so at least she knows whats going on. Also, she has either 1 or 2 of her dogs around most of the time but at most, they just lounge around and doesn't bother anyone. They're so adorable! I've gotten brazilians all over the place from several places in Texas to Barcelona, Spain and a few other places in San Francisco and Dow does the BEST job I've ever had for the MOST reasonable price. $40 for a brazilian is almost unheard of these days, especially for a wax that is so legit and great. Dao does a great job and I enjoyed going here for my Brazilians. However, do not ever cancel an appointment with her even the night before because she will blow up your phone like an angry jealous girlfriend! This happened about a year ago. I had an emergency that kept me from coming back into SF the next morning, so I called and left her message on her voicemail. Unfortunately, it seemed she did not check her messages before she left her home that morning to open her shop. I was to be her first appointment. I found this out in a very rude way because later that day I listen to my voice messages to hear her yelling at me in two different messages! I was so shocked! She yelled into my ear, "See! See! This is why I do not make early appointments! I don't need business from people like you! I call, you don't even answer." I was so shocked. See, my phone had died due to the lack of having my phone charger with me, so of course I didn't answer! I felt bad, but honestly, I did waht I could do to let her know I wouldn't be there! Left her a detailed, apologetic message! So, excuse me. I'm sorry I had an emergency. I'm sorry I even bothered to leave you a nice message alerting you about canceling. Getting waxed especially when it has to do with your "pikachu" can be quite nerve-wrecking, even for the most boisterous nudist. I heard about Victoria's Nail Studio when I asked a coworker about where to get my first brazilian wax. She referred me to Dao at Victoria's for a gentle and thorough waxing. But Dao doesn't stop at the wax, she gets up in it and carefully plucks any stray hairs and pulls out any ingrowns ensuring a smooth waxing and smooth body for weeks - all at a very reasonable rate!! Dao is phenomenal. A one woman operation, she is efficient, professional and makes you feel comfortable in a situation that is pretty uncomfortable. Her shop is a little hole in the wall with no signage so just look out for the address # on the door. I fear the bikini wax! I also am not a big fan of public nudity. But, I was going to Cabo with my boyfriend and I wanted to have a nice wax. I found Victoria's on Yelp and I was pleased with my experience. Dao was very nice and she did a thorough job with the waxing and she used a lot of powder which helped ease my pain. Whoever's review said this only takes 2 minutes was stuck in a time warp, as it takes about 25 mins. which is totally reasonable. You should go here if you want to get right down to business with your wax, no frills, for a good price. I had a pedicure here, too. I prefer the massage chairs which they don't use. Also my polish didn't last for my week in Cabo. But again, the wax was as good as it gets! read more

I've been reading all the reviews and I think it is just hilarious reading all of her bad ones. Really ladies... Dow is a busy woman, and she will cater to your individual needs to her best abilities like everyone else says - but you gotta do your part too. I'm sure you'd be annoyed if your customers are late and holding up the line for the more loyal ones that come on time. Don't blame her if she gets on your case for wasting her time waiting for you. If she is completely booked then she is completely booked. You should have called in early if you wanted a convenient time slot. Be glad if she even squeezes you in and also be glad that she has extended hours. And So what if she doesn't put up a big banner with her prices for nails? You should be responsible enough to ask that when you make your appointment. Dow really is a nice person and she can be a complete dear just don't give her any trouble. And this goes out to Cat K... I'm not going to waste my time insulting your review but rather just make fun of the fact that you believe in this imaginary yelp hierarchy and because you are an "elite" member you can make insults to other people defending good places and expect to maintain some respect and dignity from other members.
