It's cozy, I can order pizza and whiskey after midnight (my life is sorted, y'all), and the girls behind the bar are always welcoming and remembered me only after coming in a few times. Where I come from, naming your place "Quality ____ " (or God-forbid "Qualitee ____") is actually an accepted way of saying "Yeah, our place is trash and we know it." So when I heard "Quality Bar" I assumed there was a wink at the end of that. To my absolute shock this place wasn't kidding. The atmosphere is kind of like...classy dive bar. Modern, but all of the edges are rough and nobody gives. The only thing I can ding them on is I'm not sure how I could have gained control of the sound system. It oscillated between heavy metal and Fleetwood Mac with no transition. I wonder if it's controlled by the jukebox in Sizzle Pie? Eh. You know what? Even the bi-polar soundtrack may be part of the appeal. Connected jukebox or not they take great advantage of the fact that Sizzle Pie is their neighbor and/or parent company for some strange alcohol laws I'm sure I don't understand and/or respect. It actually reminds me of Pinky's on the other side of the river in that there's built-in access to quality pizza while you're getting trashed. Speaking of, their happy hour between 4-7 is crazy generous. Downtown Portland I got 4 mixed drinks (not all well either!) and got a bill for $21.00 I know what you're thinking and yes, I checked the bill again once I sobered up too. Like everything else in Portland, it's overrated. I just wanted a glass of wine and a slice -- preferably Hawaiian. Of course, they weren't doing Hawaiian by the slice so I had to get something with some feta, peppers (yuck), and some other crap. (They did sprinkle some pineapple on the slice; I'll give them that.) The place was too loud, there was bad music, and after a certain hour (11:00?), they break out the security so people have to stand in line for PIZZA AND DRINKS. Insanity. This isn't NYC or LA. It's Portland; not a special snowflake. Save your money and your sanity, and go somewhere else that doesn't make you go through security. read more

Cozy date spot alert! The Quality Bar is a great place to moon at each other over a slice of Sizzle Pie pizza without the raging angry bash-your-head-in music. Don't get me wrong, I love the grunge, wu-tang, fuck-my-life Sizzle Pie aesthetic, but how amazing is it that, if you so choose, you can also enjoy their funky slices along with a fidgety cucumber cocktail with a sexy someone under the glowing blue lights at Quality Bar? They have some great window seats where you can watch the rain and strangers go by, and extremely friendly staff. The bartender served me a gorgeous cocktail filled to the brim and I sat down with an old friend and we enjoyed over an hour of conversation in a trendy downtown bar on a Friday night. Now THAT is incredible. Everything in the vicinity is packed to death around 10:30 p.m. on a weekend night. Quality Bar might become my go-to bar for a cozy cocktail and conversation this winter. The cocktails are great, through the looking glass. There's just enough flash and substance to fulfill your late night cocktail needs, but that's what you'd expect, right? The vegan pizza WITH the cocktails, though? That's why you come here, because, let me tell you, a smoky mezcal base cocktail does wonders with a vegan pizza. Alone, they're competent. Unimpressed. We were craving some late night pizza and actually planned on visiting Sizzle Pie which is next door- but opted for here as we decided to grab beers as well. We sat ourselves at the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender. We ordered 2 beers- I had the Reverend Nat's cider which I'd compare to apple juice so "eh" for a beer. We noticed there was seating on an upper level so we ordered our 2 slices of pizza and headed upstairs to grab a table- it's a "seat yourself" environment. The pizza slices were colossal but not good at all. They tasted stale, lacked seasoning/ flavor any sort of taste honestly. It tasted like a pizza that had been sitting out and was popped in a microwave upon order. Here at "Quality" bar. Not so much. I'm a server and its rare I do a negative review. Came here, it's not busy, sat at a table and the bartender yelled for us to bring her our IDs to her at the bar....... Can't even come out from behind the bar, do a decent greeting then take our order. Our group of 5 ordered 2 beers and going somewhere else. Not a fan of lazyness. read more

Hit up this place on an impromptu dinner date with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. The ambience inside was subdued with a good amount of music to keep you engaged. Tip: Entrance is right next to Sizzle Pie. This bar is small and intimate, just like most other bars in Portland. There weren't many seats, but we were able to score a small spot at the bar. What I really enjoyed about this place was that the bartenders were so nice! They are really all about the quality of the drinks they prepare for you. After ordering an old fashioned and another cocktail (forgot what it was :( ), the bartender asked me if I was enjoying it and if there was anything he could do for me. At the end when my friend was paying his tab, the bartender asked him if he enjoyed his drinks and if there was anything he could do to improve the drinks... but everything tasted fantastic! Jordyn and Gary are literally the best bar staff that I've experienced in many years. While sitting at the bar with a co-worker, a woman sitting at the bar announced to the Jordyn that she disliked gay people (directed at me). She repeated herself and Jordyn asked her to leave the bar, supported by Gary. He was fantastic. It was all dealt with so quickly I was practically unaware of the situation. As someone in my late 30s who has dealt with homophobia for decades, I was absolutely moved by Jordyn and Gary's stance on the issue and how quickly they addressed it. They are both fantastic people who take these situations seriously and are considerate to everyone. I'm happy to have visited Quality Bar and will certainly recommend to any and all who may be visiting Portland in the future. Thank you so much for your support. It means a lot to me. read more

Excited this spot finally opened up after a couple years as a distant dream. We stopped by for a quick drink to check out the place. Space is typical Sizzle-pie-empire look with some neat lighting and plants. Went with a cocktail and a beer for the first visit. Looking forward to swinging by again later for more drinks and pizza but feel like this place could get crowded and loud. read more

Stopped in here during a specialty cocktail week in PDX to try the cocktail of choice for this bar, and was impressed by the way Quality manages a rock vibe with quality, friendly options. We ordered at the bar and sat along the window bar to people watch, which was a great spot! We found ourself at Quality Bar after a visit to Powells. The bar has an artsy chill vibe with limited seating. My bartender was not overly friendly and didn't seem to be knowledgeable about their limited drink menu. Fun place but doubtful I will return. The artwork on the walls consisted of local pizza boxes decorated by local artists for a contest. Would have been cool to buy some prints of the artwork. read more

I come here in a regular basis about 2 times a week. The bartenders are always friendly and efficient. Awesome staff and great beer and food. The salads are amazing I highly recommend them. I will always come here as long as I'm in the downtown area. read more

As my friend said, "Yelp missed the mark on this one!". Absolutely couldn't be more true! The drinks are spendy as anticipated, but they are also small. Not to mention served with an attitude. I can't stress this enough, if you work in the service industry and you hate your job, get a different one or go to school. I'm so tired of bitchy bartenders. This chick behind the bar on Saturday 1/23/16 was so rude. Everything about her demeanor screamed "I hate you, I hate everyone, I hate my job, go away, don't bother me". If this were my bar, I'd get rid of people like that. The wait time for drinks was so long between the attitude, and the rookie hipster help that seemed to be too stoned to even follow his cheatsheet recipes. I came with 4 other people, only 1 of us got a mixed drink because the wait was ridiculous. Of course at 6:30pm they were out of the special, were they really or was she just playing bartender god? Methinks the latter, how are you out of pineapple juice and rum!? I got some terribly named cocktail "Joseph vs. the Volcano", or some crap like that. It was awful tasting. It tasted like creamy, sour, cheap dark rum with anise. I gave it away and no one would drink it. The beer selection is ok, small but good brews. And the ambiance is somewhat enjoyable. I like the dim lighting and high ceilings, but the awful music was so loud you could barely hear the person across your table. I can't comment on the Sizzlepie pizza, as I didn't have any. It smelled good, but my friend from Brazil said it wasn't. She's eaten pizza all over, I trust her. So after this experience, I probably won't come back here. It was awful!!!! The lady was so rude to us and checked our IDs for minutes even though they were clearly real. It was my brothers 21 first birthday and he wanted another shot after ONLY HAVING ONE SHOT. When he asked for another she said "actually I take it back y'all are done for the night". We got into Portland around 10:30 on a Sunday night and to our hotel just as its bar was closing, so the bartender recommended Quality Bar just a couple of blocks away. There was a good crowd for it being near midnight on a Sunday, and the bartender was friendly as could be with us while being slammed with orders. He made good recommendations for pizza flavors and cautioned us about the portion size (one slice is plenty for one person). This was probably one of the best and most enjoyable "we never intended to come here" discoveries we've made in years - a perfect way to end a long day of travel. read more
