Would not recommend. They refused to even try to SMOG my car because the guy could not determine if some random pipe in the engine bay was OEM or not. To be clear, this part was not something that would affect emissions nor did the employee claim he knew it was aftermarket - he just couldn't tell "if it was OEM or not." He said I needed to go to the dealership to confirm this part was acceptable, but wouldn't tell me what specific documentation I would need to get to prove that it was. Then they told me they'd need "2-3 hours" to do a thorough inspection of the engine to confirm everything was legal just because my car had some aftermarket wheels and was lowered. They clearly did not need to do this to every car they were SMOG checking but for some reason wanted to single me out just because my car had some aftermarket parts that were not related to the exhaust nor emissions whatsoever. To top it off, the employee was rude and unhelpful from the beginning and claimed they wouldn't even be allowed to perform the SMOG check. So I went down the street to Masonic SMOG and Repair and got my passing SMOG check in like 10 minutes (and easily passed the visual inspection without any fuss). If you value your time or good customer service, avoid this place at all costs. I recommend Masonic SMOG and Repair down the street if you need another local spot instead. LADIES/ others BEWARE!!!! This IS INDEED a shop to fear!!! They charge $49.88, (at the time of review), for an oil change, (up to 5qts). Not that's $50 for a 4c cylinder engine ONLY!!! The 5th quart is used to flush the old oil to allow the new oil to libricate. Obviously if you have a 6 or 8 cylinder.... YIKES!!! I Don't wanna know. Now here's the 1st problem.... (Not even major problem, KEEP READING) I asked how much for an oil change and he started to go through the checklist... as I saw the standard questionnaire playing out like a script being read, interrupted to inform that I have the oil/ filter already. The price for labor alone was "$45!!!!" LMFAO!!!! So you charging an extra $4.88 for me to get the oil AND FILTER from you! ROFL!!!! HERE'S THE MAJOR PROBLEM! Even as a man, he tried to confuse me with LETTERS & NUMBERS I've never EVER heard for oil! LMFAO! But not funny! That's scary!!! Maybe, (not accusing, just sayin), it was because he thought I was an uneducated 'YOUNG' black male. Well I'm 36 this year and have been working on cars before I was big enough to hold a tire!!!! Super quick and fast! I called in for a price. The guy game me the price out the door which I like. I hate when I call into places and I asked for a service and then they say X amount plus tax. Like how am I suppose to calculate my own tax. Come on now! Guy quoted me 30 minutes. I was in and out right before the 30 minute mark. Only downside is that it is located on a super busy street and shares the same lot as the Arco gas station. It's a pain to get in that lot! And we all know that Arco is like the Walmart of the gas stations so you get a little bit of crazies there sometime. Haha read more

I drive a 1996 RAV 4, and most smog stations don't have the machinery/equipment to do a smog check on me, but these guys do. I came here to get my car fix because when I was driving it, it was shaking. They did not fix the problem. They told me there was something wrong with the breaks and insisted I had to replace the breaks, rotors and it was very aggressive. They also wanted to replace the battery when I knew the battery was just fine. Please please please avoid this place. They will milk you and try to get as much as they can. Very disappointing. Went in to have a power steering leak repaired as it was leaking on my garage floor. After paying for the repair I brought it home and left for a short vacation and found the leak was still dripping. I returned to the garage and they worked on it and repaired a different portion of the of the same system. Later that week, it started leaking again! I can no longer trust this group of mechanics. Seem sincere, but can't solve a simple problem! This is a very bad value as the repair costs were high. Save your money, go elsewhere. read more

Pretty meh experience here overall. Came in for standard oil change. Pros: - Fast. Took 15 minutes but to be fair no one else was there Cons: - Almost 20% more expensive than other garage in town. $116 for full synthetic oil change. - My car was lowered by the prior owner. They didn't ask before trying to jack it up and it hit the jack when they were backing it in and made a disturbingly awful noise. - The tech left a big grime smudge on the interior fabric by my windshield. Not a huge deal I guess but when you can do an oil change anywhere, this is a pretty annoying side effect of have done it here. read more

Came to smog my brand new Mustang GT500 (bought it out of state so I'm required to smog it before it can be registered in California). The tech looked at my car, asked to open the hood. I opened it and told him it's a brand new car with 20 miles on it and everything is original, no modifications. After looking at the engine for several seconds he said he won't smog it and I should find another place. I asked why and he said he doesn't know this car, and can't tell if anything has been modified or not. Been coming here for years now. Called ahead to check on lines for START Smog Check - none on a Wednesday afternoon. Drove in, parked, they said 15 minutes and then in 15 minutes it was done. Paid a reasonable fee and drove away. Could not have been easier. Each time is identical. The only small little issue is that there are usually lines to get into the gas station (waiting on Fell). Sometimes when you want to pull into the repair area, the people waiting won't let you in (they think you're cutting in line for gas). Or when you're trying to exit they're blocking (and hard to move back if there is a line). But aside from that there is nothing else bad to say about a Smog Check here. read more

I was in and out in about 20 minutes for a smog check with no appointment. The price was $48.20 after fees, which seems good for the area. The guys seemed pretty chill and other services looked reasonably priced, I'll very likely be back. It's on Fell St. just before the Arco. I got an oil change here and it was really fast and cheap. I'd give them 5 stars for the oil change. I also got my brakes inspected -- they had to replace a couple rotors and all the pads. I always have to take seriously those people who choose to join Yelp just to voice their disappointment about a single establishment/experience. That said, I have to defend Quality Tune-Up on Fell against the review of Sona A. I have gone to this place multiple times. Twice for an oil change and one to try and get a smog certification. The oil, lube, and filter services were cheap ($22 including oil for my PT Cruiser) and a great deal compared to the places in Marin I looked into that a.) charge over $40 and b.) require an appointment a week in advance. This place is also more affordable and faster than Jiffy Lube. At Quality, the whole shabang is done in 15min. You can even go across the street to the Bean Bag Cafe and enjoy a hot (mmm coffee) or cold (mmm cheap beer) beverage while you wait. When I went here to get my smog test done, my engine light was on. Using my trust google searching skills and my car savvy, I was able to find out what my car's computer said the problem was before I showed up at the shop. At first, they reset my computer (for free) and recommended I drive about a hundred miles and if the light didn't come back on, they would smog it and I should pass. When I showed up the second time, after the 100 miles, the engine light wasn't on but they said the car wouldn't pass anyway because the memory was stored in the computer and the problem wasn't fixed. They did a diagnostic test and found nothing wrong. Since they found nothing wrong it was FREE. I then took my car straight to the source, the Chrysler dealership, where they "fixed" my problem and when I told them that Quality only charged ~$35 for smog testing and certificates, they agreed to only charge me that too. I like this establishment and it is by far the cheapest place that I've found to get the job done. read more

Called a few places and this one was the cheapest. I asked about making appointment but was told it's first come first serve. They also told me the latest they would do a smog check was 5pm. It was already 5:20pm when I got there but they told me it's ok as long as I didn't mind waiting until they're done with the other car. Within 15mins or so the smog test was done. This place is great for cheap, fast oil changes and they're not bad for other basic work too, like brakes. Their customer service is maybe a bit brusque, but even with the somewhat limited English some of the guys spoke, they still always made a point of showing me the cracks in my belt or the problems with my tires or anything else they spotted while they were working, and telling me how soon I would need to get it taken care of. They did this even when it was the kind of work they didnt' really do in their shop, and I never felt like I was getting the hard sell. Brisk, basic, bare bones. I was always pretty happy with this place. I deduct one point because it was suggested by another garage that the belt they put on my engine at one point might have been the wrong size. Ah the treacherous Arco fill up line is annoying, but otherwise if you want a no frills in and out oil change, this place is great. They didn't upsell on me anything. I have to agree I'm not sure I would come here for much more than an oil change because quite frankly I know my oldie needs some work and they didn't tell me anything needed to be done. I was a bit shocked, but I get it, they want to go home and shoot it isn't difficult to do an oil change, however I do wonder if they really did top my fluids and visibly checked anything because it felt like they just swapped my oil and was done with it. I'm not necessarily complaining, I also wanted to go home and there's nothing like getting the news that thousands of dollars worth of work needs to be done to my method of transportation. I took my Blazer to Quality for a tune up a while back, which they said they did (plugs, wires, rotor, cap, filters, etc.) at a cost of $297.00. They told me cylinder #5.was misfiring. After some research, I discovered I had a bad fuel injector. I replaced the entire fuel injector system a few months later, (when money permitted) & the truck was still running very rough & would not pass the yearly smog. I took it to a different mechanic & he said my problem was simply that it needed a tune up. I told him that I had previously had a tune up a while back, to which he told me that the parts on the truck looked to be several years old. So, either the previous company (Quality) had lied & never did anything more than replace the plugs, or they used sub-standard parts. After paying $400 for another tune up, my car is running as smooth as it did from the factory. I called Quality & they told me since it was past the warranty, there was nothing they would do for me. They assured me that they had indeed done a "quality" tune up. I here to say that they flat out lied to me. I was never shown the old parts nor were the parts priced out on the receipt. In short, I believe I was lied to & no real tune up was done. Quality denied me a refund of my $297, did not offered a certificate for future work or even an an apology. I will not use them again & do not recommend them to anyone else. If you do use them, make sure you see both the new parts as well as the old parts they take out. I've been getting my oil changed here for years. It's always more expensive than the coupon says since I need synthetic oil, but whatever, I still assumed it was a good deal. Recently my brakes started making a grinding noise. Turns out my brake pads were almost gone and there was metal on metal on my rear rotors. I needed all new pads and new rotors on the back of my car, this was expensive! I really wish Quality Tune Up would have told me my brakes were getting low. I also wished they were rotating my tires all this time. My brother said the place he goes to in LA rotates your tires every time and warns him about his brake pads. read more

I just went to this station for a smog check. They refused to check my car once they opened the hood. My car has a fully CARB approved air intake with all stickers and identifications intact, the engine is spotless and the car has been smoged in the exact same configuration for its last three checks with no problem, questions, and/or concerns. The response I got was, and I quote "we don't have any understanding of these things". I they don't know what a CARB sticker looks like they shouldn't be doing smog check period. I recently had a lame experience with these people. I had gone there twice previously for a smog check and things went accordingly. However, this time, my car failed. Of 10+ categories, my car did not pass the engine light category. They asked if I recently jumped my battery. I told them that I did. They next said that they would charge me another $100 to diagnose the problem. Plus another $25 to re-smog. WTF. I was being reamed. I hate that feeling of being screwed. Those morally reprehensible criminals. I left and I called my mechanic buddy who told me that because I recently jumped my battery, the computer was out of whack and the car needed to be driven for at least 40 miles so the computer system would adjust itself. Oh how i wish there was a zero star option. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR ANYWHERE NEAR THIS PLACE. I took my 2002 mazda here for an oil change after finding out about them through yelp. The whole change took about 7 minutes, which made me more than a little suspicious. That and the people working there where not friendly in the least. About a week later i checked my oil while filling up and it was black... not dirty, but BLACK. I went back to the place, showed them the oil and explained that the oil change obviously wasn't done right. They refused to believe me and sent me packing. When I got home to Canada the week after I took my car to my radical and very trust worthy mechanic (Chen auto clinic in North Vancouver). He found that this place had not even drained all the oil from the car, leaving all the dirty oil in, and had used a fake oil filter that didn't circulate oil through it. So he did a real oil change, put a real filter on it and did an engine clean. Basically, these bastards are total scammers. Go somewhere else and maybe throw an egg at them for me. read more

Oil change done in about 10minutes for $32. Usually I go to Midas where it's $20+ with a free diagnostic but a long wait. Workers are friendly. Be prepared to have some comebacks for some of verbally expressive drivers entering the arco station who will think your cutting them in line. read more
