I unfortunately didn't eat at this restaurant and I'll tell you why. As I was waiting in line for the hostess, a white woman (who arrived minutes after me) stood right next to me waiting as well. I was there first and as the hostess headed back, she looked me straight in the eye and sat the white woman who came after me! I'm a Asian female and walked away. I do not find it endearing at all and actually think it inappropriate and very unprofessional to be called that as a customer. I always enjoyed eating at this restaurant. I have been there 4 times and never had an issue. I've always recommended this restaurant to all my friends. However this last time I went on Sunday I had a bad experience. First of all I asked for patio seating, my waiter said it was closed. Moments later they seated 3 customers in the patio area. Secondly, normally you are served bread and olive oil and we never received ours. But every other table got theirs. Every other table got good service except ours. We always eat here when we visit Southcoast Plaza. Service is great and staff is always friendly. This past Sunday 7/10/21 at 2:00pm we arrived and the hostess was beyond rude. No hello, no smile, bad attitude, more like she was doing us a favor in speaking to us. Nothing like the sweet and friendly hostesses in the past. A hostess really sets the environment and experience for the customer. We have eaten here 50 plus times! So we left and did not stay. Sometimes you get a waitress or waiter that rushes you or doesn't tend to your table when it's busy- but to me, if you are paying the price to eat there then the best service please! They have great pizzas and their fettuccini is good. I don't think the lasagna is worth the price. Not much meat at all for just a small piece- too pricey. The spaghetti bolognese is good! Came here strictly for the Expresso Martini, as recommended to me. It was so good, probably the best I've had thus far. The ambience was nice. They had a band playing. Wonderful experience! I celebrated my husband's 50th birthday here, and it was great! I went back and forth trying to find the right place to host the party, but after I met with Domenico I knew this was the right place. He made everything so easy for us, from the food, the birthday cake that was so delicious and the Music, he even sang for all the guest. He surprised us when he performed old classic Italian songs, that had my in laws and my parents dancing. When I think of the Quattro Caffe, I think of such place as an upscale version of The Olive Garden. The prices are almost $10-$15 per entree, and they also have drinks (and I'm not talking just sodas). The portions of the food (appetizers, entrees, salads, etc.) are pretty decent if your stomach is in the "hungry" mode, because they have them in big bowls, and with my appetite and metabolism at a high rating, I'm always in the mood for great food. I got the Spaghetti Bolognese this afternoon, and it was delicious! The pasta didn't taste al dente, but at least the sauce wasn't tasteless. The bread tasted like...bread (and the breadsticks? Di Mais salad - nothing remarkable about this salad. The best part of this salad was the salad dressing 2. Margherita Pizza - Costco pizza is better than this and way cheaper. My wife received several South Coast Plaza gift certificates as Christmas presents from the attorneys she works for and decided we could use one of them on dinner at Quattro Caffe. I had high hopes for this experience after learning this restaurant was owned by Antonio Cagnolo. The other restaurant Mr. Cagnolo owns is Antonello Ristorante which has been consistently voted the best Italian restaurant in Orange County for the last several years. Quattro Caffe started in 1991 as Armani Café and was adjacent to the Emporium Armani boutique in South Coast Plaza. Over the years, the Armani name was replaced by Quattro giving the restaurant its own identity. We arrived a little ahead of our reservation time of 7:00 PM, but we were immediately shown to a half booth table all the same. I suggest making a reservation if you plan on eating here on a Friday or Saturday evening, because despite the mediocre rating on Yelp the restaurant appears quite popular. Once seated we were handed menus and our drink orders were taken. My lovely wife's fettuccine was pretty good and came in a light cream sauce. There was enough garlic in the sauce to provide any night stalking vampire the literal "kiss of death," but Laina didn't think the amount overpowered the dish. I am not the best judge of what constitutes a good amount of garlic since I am capable of consuming such qualities and to make it sweat from my pores and turn my blood into garlic sauce. The risotto was decent, but I not a huge fan of the wine sauces when it comes to risotto, far preferring a creamy sauce. The amount protein was plentiful, but the white wine and broth did little to elevate the dish. I also left the asparagus off my order ... I hate that green stuff! The rice was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the addition of the sundried tomatoes ... but for the price tag ($29.00) I would expect my palate to be belting out the chorus to "Hallelujah" not mumbling "What Went Wrong?!" Rohlinism: The food isn't great until the taste buds sing! For me the gold standard is the Funghi Risotto from Alessa by Chef Pirozzi which blew my mind and didn't put nearly the dent in my wallet. Quattro is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Orange County and hands down my favorite part of visiting SCP. The food and martinis are a 10/10 always and Domenico and staff make me feel like family. We recently hosted a private luncheon for my mother's 70th birthday party and the Quattro team went above and beyond to make the party a success. Domenico was very hands on and helped select the best appetizers , entrees, desert and wines. He even sang my mom happy birthday along with her favorite Italian songs. We had a group of 12 celebrating my friends birthday last week. This was such an incredible experience! We had an amazing cooking demonstration by Domenico which we participated in. We were shown how to make an excellent Eggplant appetizer that melted in your mouth as well as Salmon Farfalle Pasta and Chicken Piccata. These dishes seemed to have fairly simple recipes, however the flavors were unbelievable. Throughout the night out sever BouBou was amazing and made sure that our wine glasses were always full and we had everything that we needed. Domenico kept the night filled with fun and his great singing. By the end of the night we were all dancing around the table. Whenever I'm shopping at South Coast Plaza I make sure to stop here for lunch/dinner. There is never a line/wait, so you'll always be seated immediately. The carpaccio and bruschetta are amazing and the ingredients are so fresh. I also love the arugula salad for lunch: it's huge, but still light and delicious. I've had pastas and pizzas here before as well and they are always tasty and filling. All of the drinks are great, they have a large selection of liquor/wine to choose from and they make a really good martini w/ blue cheese olives. One of the best Italian eateries in the OC let alone located in the greatest mall in the USA. They also have great vegan and gluten free selections which is hard to find in higher end Italian joints. The sauce is off the chain and you can tell all the ingredients are farm fresh. The portion size is large enough to share or split so you can sample a few items with your date or party. If you are up for shopping in a mall environment and know you are gonna get hungry during or after burning all those retail calories make this your pit stop. We shared a prosciutto, salami and arugula gluten free pizza and gluten free penne pasta with meat sauce and it was probably the best Italian I have had in a while. Next time I will save room for a decedent desert and try one of the many Italian salads they have. The reason I give 4.5 stars is because they have a great TV centrally located which most tables can view and its displaying a slide show of all their great menu. After an afternoon of shopping at South Coast Plaza, my cousin and I decided to pop in for a quick snack. We sat up front facing the mall so that we can people watch while enjoying our food/drinks. We decided to share the Tutti de Mare appetizer and it's a good thing we did because it was very generous in size. However, the portion size was the only thing this dish had going for it. Despite the citrus dressing, it tasted very bland. We mentioned how flavorless this menu item was to our server who only offered to bring us more dressing which still to not help. The place is small but the location is nice especially for people watching. The food on other people's table looked amazing but based on our experience today, I'm not sure I'll give this place another try especially when there are so many options to choose from at SCP. read more
