Oh my yum! I had a really delicious meal from this location via DoorDash and I was so pleasantly surprised. I decided to switch it up and try something I'd never had before and I ordered the Ancho short rib, WOW!!! This meal was soooooo freakin good. The meat was super tendy and juicy and flavorful. Paired with the creamy rice and mushroom sauce is just extra icing on the cake because that was amazing too. My goodness, I was just so impressed by this meal. I'll be ordering this again very soon!!! Also, I tried their flavored lemonade, I think I got the passion fruit lemonade and it was perfection. Not too sweet, perfectly tart. Last time I was here I was with a large group everyone got there food except for me and when it finally arrived the portion was extremely small, I ordered a combination player and it was missing the main item when I called the waiter to complain he said it was there. It must've been so small I had never seen an invisible Poblano pepper before I didn't feel like arguing I'll just give them this bad review and never give them a cent of my hard earned money! I ordered the Con Arroz Bowl and the trio dip (guac, salsa, and queso), along with the swirl margarita that tastes just like a sorbet, SO good! I honestly get the swirl every time I come. The bowl was really filling with generous portions, perfect depending on your hunger level,enough to eat now and save some for later. My only note is that the chicken and veggies weren't cut super small, but the flavor made up for it. As for the trio dip, it's a little on the pricey side, but honestly worth it. Unfortunately, my friend and I had a disappointing time at Que Onda. We came to celebrate my friend's birthday and our experience fell pretty flat overall. When we first arrived, we were seated promptly and greeted by a server. We ordered several different types of margaritas with different flavor options. All of them were watered down and didn't taste great. Not the worst margarita I've ever had but no where near the best either. You also couldn't really tell there was alcohol in them, which was disappointing. For food, we ordered the chicken quesadilla and the arroz con pollo bowl. Both of our meals were decent but again not great - just okay. Service-wise: our server barely stopped by our table to check on us. Eventually the manager had to take over as it just kept being problems after problems. Manager was nice and helpful tho! So sad about the "new" Que Onda as we've been coming here for 10 years! We moved from the area, but wanted Mexican so we made the 35ish minute drive to reminisce where we used to go almost weekly for years! Back when it began, it was so close to Three Amigos since they were the same recipes, but sadly they are all different now. I miss the (free) chips with the red seasoning. Is it possible for a restaurant to get even better?!? We are blessed to have Que Onda as a neighborhood staple for the Highland Creek area. The service is as great as the food. Our last visit was a Friday night. It was very crowded. So we opted for seats at the bar. There are screens above the bar to watch whatever sporting event is on. Our server did a great job of waiting on us without making us feel rushed. I went with the salad instead of my usual tacos. And I did not regret it! The salad was soooo good and very filling. We came in for my moms birthday for lunch. I had never had a shrimp birria. It was amazing. The queso was free with the Yelp check in. The waitress was nice about getting the manager to honor it. The $5 margaritas on Friday was also a steal! My mom got the fish tacos. The salsa and chips were complementary, but the waitress it next week the menu will be changing, and that it would be added to the appetizer menu for patrons to pay for. I'm glad we got there when we did. Parking was nice and there was a huge lot. No issues. From the outside, the restaurant looks bigger than what it is on the inside, but it was not crowded for an early Friday evening, and the bar was very active with customers. It is family friendly. This spot came highly recommended by Charlotte locals. It lived up to it! It's a cozy atmosphere with modest decor. The queso is very thin yet delicious. I did end up ordering a second order to dip my meal in because it's a small portion. The sorbet margarita comes with real soft serve and the quesadilla was delicious. I am not normally a fan of enchilada shells but pushed myself out of my norm and so glad I did! The thick and warm chewy consistency was marvelous! The save on top was amazing. And I probably need to come during happy hour as that would likely improve my impression of the place. Overall, food was pretty standard. I ordered the taco lunch special and the dip trio. It did take a little while for them to get the tacos to the table but the dip came out pretty fast. Unfortunately, for some reason, they don't bring napkins or silverware and plates until your main course arrives so I spent the next 10 minutes trying to flag down the waiter just to get a napkin to wipe my hands off and to prevent any additional dip from hitting my lap. Unfortunately, he didn't show back up until he bought out the two tacos. I was super excited when I was invited out for lunch here. I had been previously in the past but I haven't been recent. There's free parking on site. Once seated, my table was served a bowl of tortilla chips and salsa. While we waited for the rest of the party to show up I ordered a mojito. They currently have a $6 special on Saturdays! We ordered a queso dip and it was yummy! The bowl was rather small but we shared it as a table. I ordered a pulled chicken chimichanga. It was soooooo delicious! My friends convinced me to start my year off with some tacos and Que Onda Cantina did not disappoint! The place was pretty full with a very lively atmosphere and kind service. We shared some chips and queso as well as a variety of veggie, shredded chicken, and ground beef tacos. The $2 Taco Tuesday special made this trip well worth it as we got our food at a decent price while surrounded by a great group of people! We Went a week ago on a Friday around 6:000pm and the place was bustling with activity. Many patrons were at the bar having a good time. The inside area can hold a good deal of people and if the weather wasn't so cold, their outdoor area which looks pretty large and inviting, I suspect would be packed. The drink specials for the day large gold margaritas which seemed to hit the spot as well as the beer. They have different daily specials which I love and will take advantage of now that I know which days peak my interest. For dinner we started with chips and salsa and I am sorry to say they are not complimentary like many other restaurants but they are only $1.95. They came out hot and fresh and I am a total fan of the earthy tasting salsa. Don't be fooled by other restaurants, the cost of free items are factored into the pricing of all other menu items and I think having lower prices and not offering free items is a better business decision I support. My wife and I both had the tacos (3 different kinds which we picked from their full taco menu) which were awesome, the right size and a fair price. They came with rice and refried beans as expected. Updating my previous review from 6 years ago because the time has come: I'm so sad by what's happened to this place. My family has been coming here for years and while it's changed quite a bit through the years, it's finally hit the place where I can say I will not be returning again. The prices of the dishes have risen which is perfectly fine, but the portions have gotten smaller. Chips and salsa come with a charge now. It no longer tastes like traditional Mexican. What happened to regular corn tortillas? The enchiladas were gross with super thick tortillas. The whole menu has changed. There is such a rich variety of good Mexican cuisine in the Charlotte area where prices and portions are right, the flavor profile is spot on and you get complimentary chips and salsa. Why come here? Really wish this place didn't changed what was previously delicious and reasonable. Oh well! read more

I was not happy about the service. I saw lots of people come in to get takeout orders and I understand why. The food was fairly good but could be better. I can understand certain things aren't up to par due to staff shortage since I came on a Friday night but the effort to check on our table just wasn't there at all. I felt like I was in a club with how loud the music was and extremely low lighting. The very first thing I ordered was a Gold Margarita and never received that. My table was never checked on to refill drinks and the guy in front of us had 6 different glasses from refills. Moral of the story I felt neglected while I was there.
