Rarely give one star to a restaurant, but... The server was incredibly sweet. I came last week and the taco trio (dinner sized) came with two tortillas and big bowls of beans. Yesterday, I ordered that exact meal but there were no second tortillas, the ones I was served were smaller than usual. It was also cold. My son confirmed this. He got the nachos, they were served with beans, queso, and jalapeño. I kid you not, there was no pico, minimal beans, and TWO Jalapeños. The worst part was the queso. It was cold and as thick as cheese on a pizza. It tasted like it had been mixed with butter. He got sick almost immediately. Cutting costs, costing customers. read more

The owner, Manny, and servers Maddy and Jose are always there to greet regulars with a smile as well as an inquiry about your favorite Margarita! Taco Tuesday's are a real thing there. Chicken Tinga are my faves, but all of them are amazing on the authentic corn soft tortillas. Incredibly mediocre. Salsa didn't taste fresh. Tasted like it was from a jar. Pretty sure chips weren't made fresh either. Service was very good and quick. We tried the chicken, steak and pork tacos. Pork and steak were chewy. Chicken was pretty tasty. Will not return. read more

This restaurant deserves one star as the food here is not tasty at all. We have ordered 2 taco salads, they didn't toss the salad well one had just lettuce and other had rain of tomatoes, corn and no dressing at all, when I told this to a waiter he told its Mexican restaurant and salad here will be like this. The live guacamole was tasteless no salt, lemon and avocado was not fresh. The tacos were tasteless. Finally ordered churros and ice cream. The churros were soggy and not crisp at all. We have seen so many restaurants come and go in this shopping center. We were so happy we finally checked this place out. We went on margarita night (five bucks for a muy grande!). We both ordered a combination of wonderful tacos. My recommendation is to not get the shrimp tacos as this place knows how to deliver beef or pork!!! Plus shrimp on tacos is just plain wrong. Delicious! We had the Pollo en Guajillo and Carne Asada and they were both amazing. The carne had a great depth of flavor and the chicken dish was unique and full of different textures along with a creamy rice that are what dreams are made of. I used to eat at the one in uptown pretty often because I used to work up there so when I found out that they were opening a matthews location, I was super excited. They are one of the few Mexican restaurants that we've been to out here in NC that actually has good salsa. My husband and I are born and raised from CA and were used to eating Mexican food at least 3 times a week. Most of the places out here have salsa that tastes like ketchup. I really like their al pastor tacos in the uptown location. Unfortunately, I don't feel like the matthews location is up to par with the uptown location. Both times I've been here the meat in my tacos have been cold. First time I got the fried fish taco, and two al pastor tacos and today I got a chicken, braised beef, and carnitas taco and they all had luke-warm/cold meat. I'm also not a huge fan of their rice, but that's not a big deal. read more

Great addition to Matthews to replace pure mexican. This is more of an upscale taco bar with a bunch of different taco choices. They also have enchiladas and burritos along with all your favorite choices. The steak tacos and carnitas are great! The rice is even flavorful and not the boring kind you get at most Mexican restaurants. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly and very flavorful on the taco salad. My only complaint would be the refried beans, they are very bland and runny, but other than that everything so far has been great! read more

Inattentive, Poor Service and multiple health violations. I get that the made-up holiday "National Margarita Day" added a few extra patrons, but there was no excuse for the lack of staff on call, and the ones there were beyond overwhelmed. It took 20 minutes just to put our name down and when we did, it was more like a favor that she came over to write the names of the four groups we were waiting nearby us at the door. From there, it only got worse. Standing at the bar for thirty minutes, it was amazing how each of the bartenders failed to make eye contact. Their focus was on making drinks for the seated customers leaving the large crowd at the bar unattended until someone would yell for service. However, what we witnessed while standing at the bar proved to be a reason never to return. It was remarkable that with each drink (especially the beer with fruit and Margaritas) every staff member making drinks would take a handful of limes (no gloves, no tongs, no toothpick) to either squeeze into a drink or muddle to dip the rims before adding salt. It was a disgusting pattern. Make drink, grab a lime, grab a used glass or plate for the dishwasher, then repeat with a new drink and new handful of limes. I can only imagine what short cuts were going on in the kitchen. Food safety rules exist for a reason. This marks a stay way forever. Good luck. read more

New to the area and passed by this restaurant right after they opened. The service was very friendly; they took a while to take our order so comped us a queso dip (we never complained, they apologized and offered to us).The food was delish. We've had tacos, quesadilla, burger, fajitas and everything has been very good, very authentic Mexican. Last time we came it was a Saturday night and a lot busier than our first visit so service was a bit slower but still very friendly. We enjoy coming here and will continue. read more

Found the uptown Charlotte location by accident on our way to a Panthers game and boy am I glad we did. Based off of that experience, we decided to give the Matthews location a try and we have not been disappointed. The decor is warm and inviting with some amazing art pained on the back walls and the coolest lights above all of the booths. Service has been top notch at each visit. The Baja fish tacos are absolutely delicious. They have the best salsa I've ever had at a restaurant before. The queso dip is great, queso fundido was so yummy. We have definitely found our new go to for spanish food! Go give these guys/girls a try! read more

Taco Tuesday!!! Since we moved to the area my wife and I have been going to This restaurant just about every Tuesday night. They have a great special, $2 tacos and we are never dissatisfied. The drinks are also very tasty. Although they do have a tendency to take a long time to make their way to the table. The staff is always very friendly and the inside is always very clean. If you like guacamole theirs is very satisfying. If you are really daring I'd take a chance and add the bacon. Bacon in my opinion makes everything better, this statement holds true in this instance. The queso is also very tasty and a must try. I think my favorite taco is the crispy shrimp and pineapple. I get it almost every time we go. I have not been a huge fan of the chicken, it's a little on the dry side. It has a great flavor, just wish it was not so dry. We have explored a few things on the menu and I have liked everything we have tried. If your in the area, or looking for a cool spot for some tacos and drinks check this spot out. read more
