I've been to just about every Que Onda location around Charlotte, but finally remembered to take photos at the Matthews spot tonight. As a California-born taco lover, I'm almost embarrassed to admit how incredible the tacos are here... because I've eaten at just about every hole-in-the-wall from Tijuana and all up and down the East Coast. I know good tacos, and this place absolutely deserves its flowers. Every single taco was phenomenal, but the steak is out of this world. The flavors are bold, the textures are on point, and the tortillas hold everything together without falling apart, which is a bigger deal than people realize. If you appreciate real tacos and not just "taco-adjacent" food, Que Onda is well worth checking out.

Smitty.. best server out there. This was our second time trying out this place. The food is 10/10 (thank you chef) and Smitty thank you for an awesome experience.

Great frozen margaritas on Saturday for $7. Food is pricey but good. Loved the dip trio. Small amount indoor but there is outdoor seating as well.

We had to post about this place. We were visiting Mathews City on our Saturday and spotted this place. It's unique and open concept with a bar in the front and sitting area on the side. It gives a hip and modern feel to the restaurant. We were greeted with a welcome in and later a stop by I believe the owner. Friendly staff and courteous waitresses. We ordered Chilaquiles and Tacos de huevo con tocino from the brunch menu. The food was delicious really. We ate that with some margaritas. They offered a four on a stacked. We loved them too. So good and easy and convenient to have a quick bite or stay a while. Thank you we will be back soon.

I have found my happy place. So much food! First of all I absolutely luv luv guacamole! The options to switch out other food options for it was definitely worth it! So let's talk about those Baja fish tacos... Listen Linda Listen! You have to try them! ...and don't forget the quac! Did I mention the mojito!! Hunni....yazzz to the food Gods!

This is one of four locations right in mist of the town of Matthews across the road from Brace YMCA and Publix. Stopped in for a bite of lunch 12:45ish. Nice quaint atmosphere. Noticed from the signage outside they have daily specials to choose from. Today's (Wednesday) specials were $5 small Nachos and $5 Mojitos. We were greeted upon entering and seated quickly since there wasn't much of a crowd. I feel seating layout could be a bit better. Some would consider the tables uncomfortable for two especially once you add food and drinks. The menu has plenty to choose from. Our waitress was soft spoken sweet and helpful. Complimentary warm chips and authentic salsa were served. Something so simple yet so tasty. Ordered Chicken Fajitas and Guajillo Chicken. The fajitas came with salad, refried beans, and Mexican rice. The star of the show was the guajillo chicken entree. Grilled chicken breast smothered in red cheese sauce topped with bacon crumbles. The sides of cheesy rice and fried plantains help showcase the dish. Everything was delicious. Washed all of this down with a couple of their Wednesday special $5 Mojitos.

We had the bartender order for us, her knowledge was outstanding!

I'm very particular as I have eaten in many taco places around the World. This is the most authentic Mexican food I have had in Charlotte! This food was so flavorful, tender steak, very good pork, the service was impeccable. This is not a large place but it sure is worth it! They have outdoor seating! I loved the refried beans! Very tasty and the rice was fluffy and fresh! Freshness, high quality and a wonderful kind owner who greeted all the tables and made sure everyone was satisfied! Bravo!

It's too hot to even enjoy your meal. It's like eating in a sauna. The Air Conditioner needs to be on when it's nearly 100° out.

Handful of times I have ordered it to go and it's always hot, fresh, and amazingly FLAVORFUL. A plus to them is that they always have it ready in 20-25 mins. So if you're starving and need something quick, La Unica will have it ready for you. We have dined in, the service is upbeat and quick. I always get the same dish and it's so hard to order a different one. BUT my boyfriend is there to order everything and it's so worth the chance of trying something new. When my X and I first moved to Indian Trail, a lot of friends suggested this restaurant as the authority for Tex Mex. It's a good thing they have a big parking lot as they're generally packed, which means people like it. Me? My short reply is it's pretty good. Opening up the doors the atmosphere has a bit of reserved authenticity, no dollar tree prefab gimmicks are there just to plant a flag, claiming to be just like all other options out there. No this is the real deal with a warming atmosphere designed to entice locals to take a load off and relax. The server stand is directly in front and what appears to be a predominately family-owned business. The staff is quick to greet and seat everyone who enters and the place is extremely clean with a low noise level. Lets get to the food, shall we? First of all, I prefer thinner chips as theirs are really thick, but that's not a quality issue. The salsa is darn good and be careful for asking for hot salsa, you'll get what you asked for. Generally I fill up on chips and get something light however I've heard so many good things about La Unica I had to hold back so I could sample some of the former mrs food and gorge on my own. Please note I did drop by twice so I have three dishes I can speak too. First the former Mrs me got the flautas dinner. All the sides; lettuce, tomato, guac, sour cream and rice were fresh and tasty. The tomatoes were ripe and the guac wasn't discolored which means fresh. The flautas were perfectly cooked, crispy with flavorful and moist chicken while not being greasy. Top it with some lettuce and sour cream YUM! My first sample was the Shrimp burrito or I'll call it the Titanic as it was HUGE & IT WENT DOWN! Very tasty with plenty of fat shrimp and all the sides inside. I found it fun to cut into it, pop a bite into my mouth and see which ingredients hit my tastebuds; a revolving experience. Overall, it was very good and not to spicy. For the record, I don't eat beans so I'm not a good judge of what happened there. My final menu item was my best bud, my old faithful, my ride or die - steak fajitas. Again, the sides were awesome no issue there but I found the steak a bit tough. It was seasoned well and tasty but I did some chewing to finish it off. I think it may have been an off day. Other than the MMA fighting steak (implying it's tough) the dish is outstanding. Overall, La Unica is the best Mexican aka Tex Mex restaurant in Indian Trail. The staff is friendly and fast, the chips and salsa are great and for the most part you can always get a seat. Even when busy, the food doesn't seem to suffer. I wish I could have tried more items, alas life has dictated I'm a nomad so I won't be back. But don't let that stop you for hitting up the best south of the border joint in town!

Sausage patties large and very good, similar to Neese's if you know what I mean, and perfect! Hashbrowns, perfect! Add the constant top-off on my coffee with the aforementioned smiles, and this is a hidden jewel in Charlotte folks. Yum yum! I ordered the Bananas Foster waffle with chicken tenders and whew...absolutely delicious. Sweet, warm, indulgent and exactly the kind of comfort food my spirit needed. My brother-in-love couldn't stop talking about his Bananas Foster pancakes with country ham -- though he did lobby for a slightly bigger serving of the ham. And my SO completely cleaned his plate of liver mush, grits, eggs and biscuit - he never does that. He also had a passion fruit margarita that he raved about the entire ride home. Honestly, taking care of me right now is a full-time job, so I fully support the brunch cocktail. What I loved most? Wakey Wakey isn't trying to be fancy or pretentious. It's just good people serving good food in a welcoming atmosphere -- and that's exactly what I needed!

I also got the elote loco. I really wanted a traditional elote but the lady said elote loco and I replied yes, and so that's how that went. Not even 10 min later my food was out. They give complimentary chips & salsa. The elote loco was ok. Not usually something I would order but wasn't bad. I ate it all. Worth ordering twice if you're a fan of the red stuff. My burrito was a decent size. Short and fat. Rolled terribly. All of the guac and little bit of sour cream was on one side of the burrio and the other end had the chicken and rice. There was a thin amount of beans. The chicken was hella dry. Like it has been cooked a day before and reheated in a microwave. The flavor was lacking. The chips and salsa. The chips were warmed, but the salsa was giving crushed tomatoes with garlic. It was more of a tomato than a salsa. Personally, I wouldn't come back but they do have other dishes and so maybe I just ordered something that isn't one of their bests. My total was around $26. A bit steep for such mid food.
