Food is great when its done right. They messed up my order every time I ordered. It was online and also over the phone. Everything was wrong and anything I requested was not done. Not sure who is not reading the directions and orders the cook or the person who takes orders. Guy at the front/bar is ignoring walking in customers for take outs and waitresses dont seem to care for take out customers either. They were not busy at all just not helpful. Rude stuff. No social distances in the restaurants. People were packed on top of each other and most staff was without masks. Disgusting! read more

We went there with a small group tonight for the first time. I cannot believe how good the food was. The white sangria is delicious, as was the queso and guac. I got 3 sides of rice, corn and plantains and they were all really good. My husband got the El Perrón burrito with steak and my LAWD the steak was the most delicious I've ever had at a Mexican place. A great first experience, service was outstanding and we were created with a friendly smile. Once a number of people get in the place it does get loud but it's expected. Ordered the fajitas real nice presentation and outstanding favor. Not sure why every Mexican restaurant you go to they only give u 3 to 4 Tortillas to wrap your food in. Came in for lunch today after noticing this place while driving by last week. SO GLAD I DID. They've got some great lunch specials, priced at $9.99. I have half a Torta Cubana (huge) with fries and a cup of their awesome Tortilla Soup. It ticked all the right boxes! The fries were awesome, and had a twice-fried and seasoned quality to them. The soup was warmly spiced, creamy, and had toasted pepitas that really set it off. Perfect for this time of year! The Torta was damn magical. Two words: crispy queso. They literally fry cheese on a flattop. The carnitas/bacon/pickled onions/etc. that was on the Torta was on point. Plenty of balanced flavors there to cut through the fatty sumptuousness of all that pork. Even at half a Torta, it was a large portion! Bonus for future reference: they've got a lot of taps and solid local options there. The Tequila Library is pretty extensive as well. Solid after-work happy hour place. Only criticism: this place can be a bit pricey if you stray from specials. $12-$14 for orders of 3 tacos with rice or beans on the side. Most draft beers are $5.50 (but $4 on Thursdays, all day). I could see how a couple coming here for dinner and a few drinks could approach a $100 tab if they're not careful. All that said, this place is going to be on my rotation! read more

We had a great time at Que Onda. We had to be in Matthews around dinner time so I yelped local restaurants and Que Onda looked like a good bet. Let me say first of all that this place kind of reminds me of Paco's near Southpark with a slightly different feel. It also bears mentioning that we happened to go on what appears to be the best night of the week as they had $2 tacos and $3 drafts. The tacos were limited as to which ones qualified but the drafts were not as they have 36 to choose from. We started with the appetizer trio. This was cheese dip, pico and guac. All were very good. The salsa they bring you with the chips was curious. It was a dark brown, almost black mildly spicy salsa. I asked for a hotter version and they brought me a habenero (super hot) and a salsa verde (not so hot). I ordered a tinga, braised beef, and carnitas taco. All were tasty but I'd have to say the tinga was my favorite. They offer other non-meat options if you so desire and the kids menu had something for most kids. If you are in the area or definitely if it's a Tuesday, Que Onda will satisfy your taco cravings. read more

GRAND OPENING of a new location to a spot we go to uptown Charlotte. We love the GUAC and house margaritas. My fav is the spicy jalapeño margarita "Pepino Pika Pika" always have taco and tequila specials on Tuesdays. Bring your friends and family it's a great place for kids as well! My mother wanted a wrap or a taco...we ended up here. My mother will say "this is the best chimichanga I've ever had" and it looked delicious (I did not sample it), I had a Chicken Torta (sandwich) which was awesome...thin crispy breaded chicken with pinto purée, slices of avocado and a brown mustard; served with fries which were very crispy and not overly salty (which is a good thing). I had a skinny margarita which was pretty good...there was a flavor that was a tad overpowering that I couldn't quite place. Service was great with warm chips brought immediately to the table, took a little while to get a box and the check but it was getting busier inside the restaurant? I really enjoy this Mexican restaurant, they opened not long ago in the Weddington plaza here in Matthews and we have eaten here a few times already, not once I was disappointed, the meals are just perfect sized and delicious. Their dishes are slightly different than your common Mexican restaurant, it's a refreshing new take on Mexican flavors for sure. Service is also great, polite and quick, I believe the majority of the servers speak Spanish. There is a nice bar, well-stocked and they serve food at he bar as well. Keep up the good work guys! My boyfriend and I just moved to this area and have been here 3 times already. We've had Josè twice and it's been the best service we've ever had. Their food is really good. Even when their tacos are on special they don't skimp you and they taste amazing. I'm impressed every time. Also worth noting it's very clean inside including bathrooms! Went here for dinner with the family. Overall it was very good. The staff was very nice. The restaurant was clean. The food was very good. We got chips and salsa for the table which was quite good as chips and salsa go. They have it on the menu for 2 dollars but after we left I saw that it was not on the receipt. Not sure if they left it off by accident or if they comped it with a food order. Either way it was worth it. Standard chips and salsa, but better than some other places I have been recently. For main dish my wife and I both got he three taco sampler with coca-cola carnitas, the birria, and the Tijuana steak. They were all good but the steak was the clear winner for us. Very good flavor. Our daughter got the kids quesadilla which she liked. The drink special was $6 large margarita. It was ok. It was on the sweet end of the spectrum which I don't enjoy but others do so I won't hold it against them. Overall this was a very solid stop and I would come here again next time I am in town and have a craving for Mexican food. read more

I love this place! This is not our first visit, nor our last. We had the brunch empanadas which were amazing. We also got the brunch Mexican eggs Benedict which was great, hence why it's all gone. We got the shrimp and grits. Also a must. And since it was our first time enjoying the brunch menu we got the chimichanga just in case with the braised beef and oh my gosh, I am literally stuffed. Well....it's Charlotte Taco Week, so if I needed a reason to go eat tacos, this was a pretty good one! I decided to go check out a place that I have never been to, and Que Onda-Matthews met that criteria right off the bat. I was also looking for easy access from I-485 and free parking, which made this location a clear winner. The hubby and I decided to go for lunch and there was plenty of seating available at that time of day. The dining room was large and airy. Our server, Madison, was super friendly and helpful with the menu. We shared a Trio appetizer of pico, guac, and queso, and OMG.... this dish could easily satisfy a table of four. It was too much for the two of us. Their tortilla chips had a good corn flavor and not too much salt, which is just the way I like them. The house salsa is mild, which I also appreciated. For our entrees, Que Onda offered two unique tacos for Taco Week and I decided to try the one with Chorizo and Brussel sprouts, as well as two tacos from the regular menu. After the huge appetizer, I appreciated that they were smaller street-style tacos. They were served with two sides: Mexican rice and pinto beans. Not being a fan of beans, I upgraded my beans (for $1 extra) to some delicious sweet plantains. Everything was fresh, wonderfully seasoned, and delish. The inside is very cool, open and with festive decorations. Our waitress was really nice and did a great job. I'm not sure if we will return my bf did not like the Taco salad, and my fajitas looked fine, but did not come with a plate with lettuce, salsa or sour cream nothing to make the tacos with............. which was a big disappointment. No queso fresco here, which is the white cheese (not melted, it's a crumbled cheese) and no Mexican hot sauces like tapatio or my personal favorite cholula.... Rarely give one star to a restaurant, but... The server was incredibly sweet. I came last week and the taco trio (dinner sized) came with two tortillas and big bowls of beans. Yesterday, I ordered that exact meal but there were no second tortillas, the ones I was served were smaller than usual. It was also cold. My son confirmed this. He got the nachos, they were served with beans, queso, and jalapeño. I kid you not, there was no pico, minimal beans, and TWO Jalapeños. The worst part was the queso.
