Chicken spaghetti, mac n cheese and yams

This was a first time in for us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a really clean restaurant that smelled of wonderful food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good and somewhat fast considering we came in before a big rush. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The building is somewhat small for inside eating so lots of people were picking you their food to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was wonderful and seasoned very nicely. A place I will have to go back to soon. Nice little hidden gem. When we left there was a gentleman selling koolaid pickles so we stocked up on some good pickles to take home. I would have given this place 5 stars but the waiter didn't understand all the assignment. When asked to bring some strained black eyed pea juice with no black eyed peas he brought a to go container with some sips in it and brought a bit more with equal parts black eyed peas and juice. The juice was for someone on a full liquid diet. They left hungry but still satisfied and grateful with what they got. They stayed busy and the food was great so I hope to see them expand someday. I will be back for sure.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Friendly service, nice facility, and food I will think about for the rest of my life.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Black eyed peas of perfection, collard greens melting into the flavor of fried catfish, and candied yams paired with bites of banana pudding cheesecake. Skip the max and cheese but indulge in the above! Can't wait to come back!

I had a very disappointing experience with Ida Mae's Restaurant in Waxahachie and feel the public should be aware. I placed an online order through their website for the following: Two (2) 3-piece fried chicken wing dinners with two sides each, priced at $9.99 each as advertised online One (1) catfish dinner Shortly after submitting my order, I received a phone call from a representative stating that I had been undercharged. I was told the online price was an error and that the wings were actually supposed to be $17.99 each, not the price listed on their own website. They wanted to recharge me an additional amount for a price that was not advertised online. I was honestly shocked. I paid exactly what their website reflected at the time of purchase. After speaking with a manager, I was told I had only two options: pay the upcharge or receive a full refund. I chose the refund. What was most disappointing is that the restaurant did not honor their advertised price, even though the mistake was theirs--not mine. I did not argue or request they honor the price because I don't feel comfortable having food prepared when there is already a disagreement or questionable business practice involved. As a result, I've placed Ida Mae's on my "do not dine" list. I believe in fair and honest business practices, and this experience fell short of that standard.

If you're reading this review and looking for some good food, priced right and paired with friendly customer service you've found it. Stop looking right now and head on over to Ida Mae's in Waxahatchie. The food was hot and incredibly delicious. My husband had their smothered pork chops and I ordered the fried catfish they were both 5 stars entrees and very generous portions. Satisfaction guaranteed! Treat yourself or cheat yourself!

Do you recommend this business? ABSOLUTELY!!!! I am so glad that I came across this location. I initially came here wanting some oxtails, but learned that that entree and other southern classics are offered on the weekends only. So instead, I ordered the fried catfish, collard greens, yams and two chicken wings on the side. Everything was seasoned to perfection, cooked thoroughly and tasted nice and fresh. You can tell this location gets a lot of foot traffic by the way people were pulling up and ordering on a regular weekday, and I was so glad to see it . Such friendly workers, with a nice combination of different kinds of people, ranging from young to older people. The guy operating the register either Hispanic or some type of Asian , he was so welcoming and friendly. Happily Answering questions and explaining the menu. I'm not sure if the older black woman that was there present when I was ordering is Ms. Ida Mae. if that was her, that made my visit even more enjoyable/authentic. It's always a plus to see the owners actively working together with their team. Location was really clean and instead of just standing around, the workers were walking around sweeping , wiping down tables and counters. That's always a plus. That shows that they value and respect where they work. And as they should. This establishment also attracts some really kind people/customers. It had to have been maybe 5 different parties ordering food Togo , and everyone was talking and helping each other out with the Menu and the returning customers were also answering questions for us newbies and giving their positive feedback. It was definitely an experience that was had. I can't wait to return and try other things on the menu. ....... 10/10.....

Words just can't describe how AMAZING this restaurant is, everything was so delicious and flavorful. Staff, waiter, and all employees were THE ABSOLUTE BEST!

We were greeted as soon as we walked in to this restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was very clean and we felt comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It did take long for us to receive or food that was hot and taste delicious. I order the baked chicken (dark meat), sweet potato and greens. I plan to make this my new place when wanting soul food

Was searching for a quick spot to eat after looking at homes and came across this spot in Yelp. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small location but plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can imagine a Sunday after church, it's probably packed but for good reason! We were pleasantly surprised with each meal we ordered. I ordered the chicken wings with Mac and greens. Wings weren't fried too hard and the greens were flavored nicely. The Mac was a little more liquidy than my preference. However, it was seasoned well and I still enjoyed the whole thing. The portions were great. The catfish was PHENOMENAL! Seasoned amazing. Would absolutely order it again. This place would see me at least once a week if we make Waxahachie home!

Sunday chicken and dressing special with collard greens, garlic, mashed potatoes, and a cornbread fritter. Excellent!

I ordered the pork chop plate, and the server kindly let me try both a fried pork chop and a smothered one since I couldn't make up my mind. I also had fried cabbage and yams. The cabbage had a little unexpected heat to it, but that's actually the same way my family cooks theirs, so I ended up really enjoying it. One thing that stood out to me was the staff. I'm not sure if the restaurant is always staffed this way, but I was genuinely impressed that all the front-line workers were men -- and every single one of them was courteous, respectful, patient, and mindful of each customer. While I enjoyed my meal, I watched them treat each person who walked in with the same positive energy and attentiveness. If you're in the area, go support this restaurant. In today's world it's comforting to know there are businesses verifying identity! Kudos!! Once seated at home I opened my container to hot fried catfish, tomatoes and okra, Mac n cheese and hot water cornbread. My first bite of everything was very good and seasoned to perfection. I got so full so quick that I wasn't able to finish but it made for perfect leftovers later that day. On to the desserts! My mom got a slice of pecan pie and I enjoyed the strawberry cake. Both were tasty and prepared perfectly! I will stop in again for fried pork chops when it's time for an off plan meal.

Walking into this place immediately gives you the feeling of an old-school neighborhood BBQ joint…read more The building itself is older and pretty small, with just a handful of booths and several small tables packed into the dining area. The decor is very minimal, but one wall completely covered in customer signatures honestly adds a nice personal vibe to the place. Ordering happens at the register tucked into the back corner, so when there's a line it cuts right past some of the tables. Definitely close quarters while people are eating, but it somehow still fits the character of the place. The gentleman taking orders was friendly, just not overly talkative. The lady who brought our food out was very polite and welcoming though, which I appreciated. Overall, the service was okay. Our food took about 10-15 minutes to come out, which felt a little long considering it didn't appear very busy other than one larger party already seated when we arrived. To be fair, we couldn't see what was happening in the kitchen. The only real frustrating part was waiting close to another 10 minutes for a to-go container after asking a few times. As for the food, I'd say it landed somewhere in the average range for Texas BBQ. Nothing was outright bad, but nothing really blew me away either. I ordered the loaded baked potato topped with brisket, link, two pork ribs, all the traditional baked potato toppings, and their spicy BBQ sauce. First off, the potato itself was fantastic. Huge, perfectly tender, and honestly exactly what a baked potato should be. The toppings were fresh and plentiful -- butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon pieces -- and it could have stood on its own as a solid meal even before adding the meats. The brisket was over chopped, which personally isn't my favorite style at a BBQ joint. I usually feel like finely chopped brisket loses some of the texture and full smoke flavor you get from sliced or a coarse chopped brisket cut to order. It stayed moist, but I really didn't pick up much smoke flavor from it. The link was unfortunately overcooked and dried out. The casing had tightened around the meat, and even sliced up it just didn't have much juice left in it. The ribs were probably the weakest part for me. They were on the smaller side, dry, and pretty tough with the meat cooked down close to the bone. Now with all of that said, the seasoning on the meats was excellent. Bold flavor across everything, and the spicy BBQ sauce was absolutely on point. I just wish the meats themselves had a little more life and moisture to match how good the seasoning tasted. Overall, everything felt pretty average to slightly below average for me, especially by Texas BBQ standards. On the positive side, the prices were actually very reasonable considering how expensive meat has become these days. I'd still come back again because I'd like to try some of the meats individually and let them stand on their own without being loaded onto a baked potato. There's definitely flavor here -- I just think the execution was a little inconsistent during this visit.

I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib.
