I had a very disappointing experience with Ida Mae's Restaurant in Waxahachie and feel the public should be aware. I placed an online order through their website for the following: Two (2) 3-piece fried chicken wing dinners with two sides each, priced at $9.99 each as advertised online One (1) catfish dinner Shortly after submitting my order, I received a phone call from a representative stating that I had been undercharged. I was told the online price was an error and that the wings were actually supposed to be $17.99 each, not the price listed on their own website. They wanted to recharge me an additional amount for a price that was not advertised online. I was honestly shocked. I paid exactly what their website reflected at the time of purchase. After speaking with a manager, I was told I had only two options: pay the upcharge or receive a full refund. I chose the refund. What was most disappointing is that the restaurant did not honor their advertised price, even though the mistake was theirs--not mine. I did not argue or request they honor the price because I don't feel comfortable having food prepared when there is already a disagreement or questionable business practice involved. As a result, I've placed Ida Mae's on my "do not dine" list. I believe in fair and honest business practices, and this experience fell short of that standard. read more

I initially came here wanting some oxtails, but learned that that entree and other southern classics are offered on the weekends only. So instead, I ordered the fried catfish, collard greens, yams and two chicken wings on the side. Everything was seasoned to perfection, cooked thoroughly and tasted nice and fresh. You can tell this location gets a lot of foot traffic by the way people were pulling up and ordering on a regular weekday, and I was so glad to see it . Wings weren't fried too hard and the greens were flavored nicely. The Mac was a little more liquidy than my preference. However, it was seasoned well and I still enjoyed the whole thing. The first time my friend bought me here on a Sunday and it was good. I decided to place a pickup order on Friday late afternoon around 3:30 pm. I arrive and 2 ladies say the App undercharged by 7 dollars so I pay. I get home to old chicken wings, old collard greens, old pinto beans and sweet potato pie. I eat one wing, a couple bites each of very salty greens, pinto beans and pie before throwing it all in the sink and trash. Within one hour I'm on the toilet with severe stomach cramps and diarrhea. But the other waitress checked us out and she asked me what I had to drink and I explained water. The food I had was Ox tails @$33 and peach cobbler @6.99. The collard greens did not disappoint! Although the greens are what primarily drew me to Ida Mae's, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The interior is cozy and the staff friendly. There's a very nice outdoor area for seating. There were two of us who met for lunch there. Between us we had the catfish, smothered pork chops, collard greens, cabbage, black-eyed peas, and mac & cheese. The smothered pork chops were excellent. The meat was very tender and flavorful. Today we decided to pick up a couple different entrees and various sides to bring back home and give them a try. Ida Mae did not disappoint. Ordered takeout yesterday and ordered the fried catfish. Went to pick up and got home and opened my food to see that the fish was not catfish , but tilapia. What a HUGE disappointment. If they were going to use another fish they should have told me that when I placed my order. The menu says FRIED CATFISH. They need to change the menu to read FRIED FISH if they are going to use whatever dish is available ! I also requested for spicy and it was not even spicy. I went ahead and ate since I was already home and starving. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Once while dining-in. Had I known it was going to be tilapia, I would have went somewhere else . Today I tried a little soul food restaurant that I just happened to stumble across. Its located across from a property I own. My friends and I were seated in a timely manner (about 10 min wait) it was packed meaning at least 20 people ahead of us. The staff was friendly and the service was great not super fast but understandable as again this is Sunday and a lot of ppl did come here. The food was delicious. My friends loved their catfish and pork chops.. I had the chicken wings .. amazing !! And the atmosphere was very comforting and to have food that reminds you of your childhood meals really hits home .I would come again and recommend as it is good southern cooking. read more

Went in on a Saturday around two pm and there was a lot of vehicles in the parking and my thought was "this must be good place, I can't wait to taste the hot water cornbread". Its location is perfect for the local people that know it's there but if passing through Waxahachie it's a horrible location so word of mouth is what's going to keep this place in the map. We both immediately noticed the music playing was nice but it was way too loud which made the people in the building having to talk louder so if you're looking for a quiet place this isn't for you. I ordered the fish with b.e. peas & cabbage and my friend ordered fried pork chop w/ mashed potatoes & mac & cheese and both came with a piece of cornbread. The cornbread was definitely different, it was white & thin with no taste, imo. The fish was so crunchy and I love crunch and it did not have an oily fish taste, perfect imo. Cabbage was soggy and nothing special about the b.e. peas nor mashed potatoes which were from a box. I thought the food was very bland and if things were tweaked a tad with seasonings it would've been much better bc it was cooked perfectly.
