I had a very disappointing experience with Ida Mae's Restaurant in Waxahachie and feel the public should be aware. I placed an online order through their website for the following: Two (2) 3-piece fried chicken wing dinners with two sides each, priced at $9.99 each as advertised online One (1) catfish dinner Shortly after submitting my order, I received a phone call from a representative stating that I had been undercharged. I was told the online price was an error and that the wings were actually supposed to be $17.99 each, not the price listed on their own website. They wanted to recharge me an additional amount for a price that was not advertised online. I was honestly shocked. I paid exactly what their website reflected at the time of purchase. After speaking with a manager, I was told I had only two options: pay the upcharge or receive a full refund. I chose the refund. What was most disappointing is that the restaurant did not honor their advertised price, even though the mistake was theirs--not mine. I did not argue or request they honor the price because I don't feel comfortable having food prepared when there is already a disagreement or questionable business practice involved. As a result, I've placed Ida Mae's on my "do not dine" list. I believe in fair and honest business practices, and this experience fell short of that standard.

If you're reading this review and looking for some good food, priced right and paired with friendly customer service you've found it. Stop looking right now and head on over to Ida Mae's in Waxahatchie. The food was hot and incredibly delicious. My husband had their smothered pork chops and I ordered the fried catfish they were both 5 stars entrees and very generous portions. Satisfaction guaranteed! Treat yourself or cheat yourself!

Do you recommend this business? ABSOLUTELY!!!! I am so glad that I came across this location. I initially came here wanting some oxtails, but learned that that entree and other southern classics are offered on the weekends only. So instead, I ordered the fried catfish, collard greens, yams and two chicken wings on the side. Everything was seasoned to perfection, cooked thoroughly and tasted nice and fresh. You can tell this location gets a lot of foot traffic by the way people were pulling up and ordering on a regular weekday, and I was so glad to see it . Such friendly workers, with a nice combination of different kinds of people, ranging from young to older people. The guy operating the register either Hispanic or some type of Asian , he was so welcoming and friendly. Happily Answering questions and explaining the menu. I'm not sure if the older black woman that was there present when I was ordering is Ms. Ida Mae. if that was her, that made my visit even more enjoyable/authentic. It's always a plus to see the owners actively working together with their team. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Location was really clean and instead of just standing around, the workers were walking around sweeping , wiping down tables and counters.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That's always a plus. That shows that they value and respect where they work. And as they should. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This establishment also attracts some really kind people/customers. It had to have been maybe 5 different parties ordering food Togo , and everyone was talking and helping each other out with the Menu and the returning customers were also answering questions for us newbies and giving their positive feedback.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was definitely an experience that was had. I can't wait to return and try other things on the menu. ....... 10/10.....

We were greeted as soon as we walked in to this restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was very clean and we felt comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It did take long for us to receive or food that was hot and taste delicious. I order the baked chicken (dark meat), sweet potato and greens. I plan to make this my new place when wanting soul food

Was searching for a quick spot to eat after looking at homes and came across this spot in Yelp. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small location but plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can imagine a Sunday after church, it's probably packed but for good reason! We were pleasantly surprised with each meal we ordered. I ordered the chicken wings with Mac and greens. Wings weren't fried too hard and the greens were flavored nicely. The Mac was a little more liquidy than my preference. However, it was seasoned well and I still enjoyed the whole thing. The portions were great. The catfish was PHENOMENAL! Seasoned amazing. Would absolutely order it again. This place would see me at least once a week if we make Waxahachie home!

Sunday chicken and dressing special with collard greens, garlic, mashed potatoes, and a cornbread fritter. Excellent!

Be patient, everything is prepared fresh and worth the wait. The staff makes everyone feel like old friends. And the sweet tea is respectable

I love soul food!!! This spot did not disappoint. I used to hit the BBQ spot that was at this location and am happy with what it is now. Do yourself a favor and give Ida Mae's a shot.

The decor is very minimal, but one wall completely covered in customer signatures honestly adds a nice personal vibe to the place. Ordering happens at the register tucked into the back corner, so when there's a line it cuts right past some of the tables. Definitely close quarters while people are eating, but it somehow still fits the character of the place. The gentleman taking orders was friendly, just not overly talkative. The lady who brought our food out was very polite and welcoming though, which I appreciated. Overall, the service was okay. Our food took about 10-15 minutes to come out, which felt a little long considering it didn't appear very busy other than one larger party already seated when we arrived. To be fair, we couldn't see what was happening in the kitchen. The only real frustrating part was waiting close to another 10 minutes for a to-go container after asking a few times. As for the food, I'd say it landed somewhere in the average range for Texas BBQ. Nothing was outright bad, but nothing really blew me away either. I ordered the loaded baked potato topped with brisket, link, two pork ribs, all the traditional baked potato toppings, and their spicy BBQ sauce. First off, the potato itself was fantastic. Huge, perfectly tender, and honestly exactly what a baked potato should be. The toppings were fresh and plentiful -- butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon pieces -- and it could have stood on its own as a solid meal even before adding the meats. The brisket was over chopped, which personally isn't my favorite style at a BBQ joint. I usually feel like finely chopped brisket loses some of the texture and full smoke flavor you get from sliced or a coarse chopped brisket cut to order. It stayed moist, but I really didn't pick up much smoke flavor from it. The link was unfortunately overcooked and dried out. The casing had tightened around the meat, and even sliced up it just didn't have much juice left in it. The ribs were probably the weakest part for me. They were on the smaller side, dry, and pretty tough with the meat cooked down close to the bone. Now with all of that said, the seasoning on the meats was excellent. Bold flavor across everything, and the spicy BBQ sauce was absolutely on point. I just wish the meats themselves had a little more life and moisture to match how good the seasoning tasted. Overall, everything felt pretty average to slightly below average for me, especially by Texas BBQ standards. On the positive side, the prices were actually very reasonable considering how expensive meat has become these days. I'd still come back again because I'd like to try some of the meats individually and let them stand on their own without being loaded onto a baked potato. There's definitely flavor here -- I just think the execution was a little inconsistent during this visit.

Unfortunately, my experience did not quite match the hype. I ordered the fried catfish fillet with collard greens, and while the meal was decent enough to eat, it was nothing particularly memorable. The catfish was cooked through, but it lacked the seasoning and crispy texture I usually expect from good southern-style fried fish. It tasted fairly plain and could have benefited from more flavor overall. The collard greens were also disappointing, as they seemed underseasoned and did not have the rich homemade taste that many people rave about in similar restaurants. The staff was courteous and the restaurant itself appeared clean and organized, so I can appreciate the effort in customer service. However, based on the food quality alone, I was left feeling underwhelmed considering the strong reviews and recommendations I had seen beforehand. It was not a terrible experience, but it also was not impressive enough to make me eager to return.

After our party was seated, it took 15-20 min before our waiter greeted us and provided water; that was a bit annoying. After we got our orders in, things were smooth sailing from there. We were a large party and our waiter did a pretty good job at managing us and all of our requests. Food: they do not waste time bringing the food out. Most of our orders came out within 10 minutes! I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib. I also ordered a side of black eyed peas... also not a fan. It was undercooked and I didn't love whatever seasoning was used to prepare it. Other items I tried: Fries, Cornbread, Yams, and Soul Rolls. These were all tasty, specifically the soul roll. It came out crispy, hot, and stuff proportionately. I could take every bit of what was inside. It's definitely a must try.
