I wouldn't say I'm a "fan" of any airport terminal, but this one made it more enjoyable when waiting for your gate and flight. Check in was easy peasy and I wish the US would adopt the passport control (unattended) and just have us scan our boarding passes before heading to security. Security was pretty easy and there were actually nice agents! Once through security you are greeted with multiple shops and restaurants. I didn't have any time to shop while in London (sad!) so was able to get all of the goodies I needed at the airport without taking up valuable luggage space, though it cost more, I'm sure. I didn't eat at any of the restaurants and chose the 5 pound Boots and WH Smith options instead for sandwiches and crisps. The duty free is HUGE and you can even taste whiskeys available for sale. Gate announcements are usually close to time of departure so keep an eye out and then book it to the appropriate gate. Overall, I wouldn't mind departing from this terminal as there is a lot to do! read more

The positive: extremely friendly staff... The negatives: - most uncomfortable seats in all the airports I have been at. When u have a 5 hour layover, that actually matters. - the way they dont announce connecting gates until 30 minutes before boarding causes rushing, people being rude trying to get to their flight, etc. Not a good format! If you travel through this airport, make sure u have the app from your airline and u can avoid this mess. I had my gate information when I landed... monitors didnt disclose the information till 30 minutes to boarding. - the layout is horrendous. . Having to maneuver multiple stories via escalators and miles to get from airplane to security, to customs. Back to your airplane... it's a MESS.. I walked almost 2 miles to go from one gate to 2 gates over... just because of poor international travel layout. read more

I have been flying in and out of here a lot lately, so I think it's time for a review! I've spent quite a bit of time here when departing from London as I like to get to the airport early to avoid traffic/get work done from the airport. Over several trips spanning over the past few months - I'm pretty pleased. The airport is enormously large, and so is this terminal. There is a lot of walking involved to get to your gate, but that would be with any large city. Terminal 2 has some really great food options varying from casual cafes to sit down restaurants - there's something for everyone. One thing I noticed, which I hadn't really seen before is that a lot of the restaurants have preparation times listed next to menu items outside of the restaurant. I thought that was so helpful since people tend to be in a hurry at the airport. The check in process has always been so smooth and there's always enough staff to keep things moving and answer questions. Security is a breeze as well! I'm not sure if that's just because of the time of day I have been traveling, but I get through pretty quickly. I think the terminal overall is very well organized, given that it's a newer one, I wouldn't expect any less. :) I haven't had any difficulty with arrivals or departures! read more

Not a bad terminal, just not a good one. And when compared to Terminal 5, is one of the weaker Terminals in the Heathrow complex. Terminal 4 being the very worst. That being said, I am honestly just pissed they dont have a Fortnum and Mason bar where I can have Smoked Salmon w creme fraîche and a small batch gin and tonic while you wait for your flight. New and shiny, well definitely shiny less new now. They have modelled this terminal on T5 and based on my experiences it worked way better on its opening, although I have heard rumour that they pulled in all the staff they could to ensure they did not face the opening day problems if T5 the space is open and welcoming with all the modern bits you now come to expect from a major airport. The transition through security is smooth, not that there aren't cues (and somehow) still people who seem oblivious to the fact that 100ml that's it for liquids you can carry!!! Never mind those who thing a belt buckle or boots with large metal eyelets won't set the metal detector off!! Once you are through the, necessary, circus that is security you find that the welcome open space of departures. With the usual selections of eateries and a good selection of places to indulge in some retail therapy or replace that much needed item you always take on your travels but often forget. The experience after the security curtain is very good places to sit and watch your flights status, often the dreaded 'please wait' or on a good day 'boarding' All in all you can see where they spent the money and they have made a great environment, now if they could only guarantee that my flights would always leave on time that would get them 5 stars read more

Okay so most of the terminal is fine, but when going towards gates B18-B49 where Air Canada is located there is no indication of whether there will be any more food or shops. So to get there and find only a small selection of shops and no restaurents sucked and the walk back to the main terminal is too far by this point. The duty free selection was also not great so that kind of annoyed a scotch lover like me. read more

The new T2 looks airy but it's typical Heathrow in its contempt for users. Coming from some gates there are no bag claim monitors so you have to walk much farther than needed to find out where your luggage [might] appear. You then have quite a convoluted walk to reach the top-small elevators to escape. But the real scandal is the distance to Heathrow Express. You have to thread your way through underground passages all the way to Terminal 3 to reach the station. This takes forever and is made far worse if you have luggage (!). Given the ridiculous length of this walk, take the Tube as that station is far closer to T2, so despite the Tube being slower, you save the extra walking time to HE. Plus, the Tube is much cheaper. read more

I've now flown through Heathrow Terminal 2 twice. This terminal is new, gleaming, and as utterly impractical as a white elephant. This terminal has: 1. No carts inside for hand luggage. Want to buy duty free, or have children or slung luggage? Have fun carrying it around the huge terminal on foot. 2. Gates that are miles away and only accessible on foot. There are travelators between some areas, but be prepared to walk a LONG way to and from your gate. 3. Very poor accessibility to and from other terminals. Heathrow spent billions on expansion but still lacks something as simple as a shuttle service or monorail between terminals. Again, be prepared to walk a long way to get to terminal 2, and then walk again to get to your gate. This is a terminal that was constructed for shopping and dining first, with the most basic needs of passengers (ie getting to your plane easily and on time) last. I will make efforts to avoid traveling through this terminal in the future, and through Heathrow if I can avoid it. The airport as a whole is creaking - - that is well recognized - - but Terminal 2 deserves special recognition as an new, enormous national expense that is already obsolete in its opening year. read more

When Mr. Snarky asked me what terminal I would be arriving at, I took a look at my itinerary and didn't see a terminal or gate. So I went on to Heathrow's website and looked up my flight. I was shocked to see it listed under Terminal 2. Since I started arranging arrivals day for the study abroad programme I worked for in 2009, T2 was just a construction site. Three times a year we would go by and there was really no clue as to what it would look like when finished, so this was a bit exciting for me. Airlines that are part of the Star Alliance (United, Air Canada, etc.) are now based at T2. When we landed, I could just make out some of the building and it resembled T5. When we entered the building, it resembled T5 and reminded me of other very modern airports throughout Europe. While it is very easy to figure out where you are going, it seems as though the long walk from the gate to Passport Control has been kept and is really the last thing that you want to do when you come off of a Trans-Atlantic flight. I am usually ready to stand and stretch my legs, but to walk a couple of miles, that's not what I want to do... especially not at 5 a.m. My flight landed 50 minutes early... yeah, 50 minutes! However, I wasn't sure if it was like landing at T3 early in the morning where it feels like every international flight lands at the same time and everyone is rushing to get through Passport Control. So I thought at least the 50 minutes would allow me to have a leisurely walk, wait in a queue at Passport Control, and wait for my bags to be the last off the plane. Passport Control was a ghost town with about 4 officers working and one person directing everyone. Everything was working in my favor: Flight landed early, Passport Control was a breeze, my bags were the nearly off the flight first. All of that, including the walk for ages took about 30 minutes. Mr. Snarky was still en route to the airport so I thought I would find a cafe and have some coffee, maybe a little bite to eat. Problem is that if you arrive before 6 a.m., nothing is open. NOTHING! That was disappointing because I could have really used a cup of coffee. And at 6 a.m. just a couple of places started to open, not sure when everything is actually open. There is free Wifi for a limited amount of time, I believe 4 hours. I decided to scope out the pick-up/parking situation thinking we could save money on parking and I could just meet him at the curb. Stepping outside from the arrivals area, you become vastly aware of the fact that you are on a middle level of this massive structure. Actually, my only clue that I was outside was a change in temperature. You really feel enclosed because of the parking garage opposite the terminal. Below the street area looked reserved for buses and taxis and Mr. Snarky said the signage for parking versus curbside pick-up was quite confusing. In the end, he paid for parking even though we were only there for a few minutes. I am sure that the departures area is just as nice and would remind me a lot of T5. Overall, I am impressed with the work and would be glad to fly in and out of this terminal. read more

So new yet so far (of a walk, to my gate). Swissair got a raw deal on T2: their gates are at the butt end of the terminal halfway to France. The retail scene fades markedly as one ventures away from the main concourse. Let's hope that improves. Until then I'll stick to being a oneworld man. read more

Gone are the terminal 1 days for Aerlingus and Irish bound passengers and that in itself is a positive. I found the transfer through security to be quick enough but each airport and each security agent appears to have their own view on what you take off / what goes into the box and what goes into your bag. I would be much happier if there were a single set of rules that were universal. Once through security you have the usual duty free shop plus a selection of high street and luxury brands such as Harrods. Walk to your gate should take no more that 15 min max and you have some dining options across both levels. read more

Clean, lots of restaurants and shops, comfortable seating, free (but slow) wifi... Heathrow Terminal 2 has so much going for it. Why, oh why, though do they withhold your gate number until the very last minute?!? I just don't get it. I received a text with the gate for my Munich flight an hour before it was posted on the screens in the terminal. So, it's not like they don't know where your plane will be. I can only think they take sick pleasure in making you mill around and shop. I'll admit, it was a great place to blow my last £10 before leaving the UK, but I still would have preferred to have the gate number posted well in advance. read more

This place is massive!! In true British style - looks amazing, but really the queues and everything you would expect to be better than the old terminal are still a pain. With that, you also get to zoom through security, which is an absolute nightmare. Each time I've arrived, I've waited in the security line an hour or more. What bs! Finally LH moved to the new Terminal 2 and this is quite an improvement to the old T1. open, modern, clean it makes the trip all the more pleasant. The shopping options are not too many which is a bit annoying when you have some time to kill but you can have some beers in one of the several eateries they have there. But why not a five star review you wonder? well... getting to the Terminal from the Heathrow Express stop is quite a hike ;-)) But then, it is exercise isn't it? I might be willing to give the Airport the last star if they finally manage to have a Lufthansa flight land / take off without the additional delay that only carriers from non UK countries get (BA is more on time and less circling over London....just sayin....) read more

Terminal 2 at Heathrow is the new home (almost all of) the star alliance airlines. It was a much needed move as the airlines were before spread out in different terminals which made transferring a hassle. I usually flew out of terminal 3 before and that was really a chaotic terminal. The new terminal 2 bears a clear resemblance to Terminal 5 (but smaller) in design and layout. When i have been here security and passport control (on arrival) has been very quick but i would guess it depends on arrival and departure times. The selection of shops and restaurants is decent. For shops it is mostly some designer brands, boring duty free shops and Boots, Harrods, Dixons and WH Smith so basically the normal airport stuff. Prices are airport prices so no real reason to buy anything here. From a food perspective it is generally also the normal things one expects in an airport with the exception of the fairly exciting addition of a Heston Blumenthal restaurant called the Perfectionist cafe. It was however packed when was there so no chance to really test it. There are a humber of airline lounges in the terminal and they seem to be fairly good (the fact that it is new of course makes it feel a bit nicer). One annoyance is the late announcement of gates - standard in UK airports but seeing that it is sometimes a bit of a walk I would prefer that they announce the gates earlier. A nice feature is also the free wifi. Now it was 4 hours free so should (unless in case of really long transfer times or delays) be sufficient for most. Big improvement compared to terminal 3 but still a boring airport terminal. read more

I really like the new terminal! Spacious, lots of shopping (and not just luxury, which is nice... only so many people can have Chanel!). Decent food options if you have some time to spare (though fewer once you go off to your gate... most things are in the main mall bit). I normally take the United flight 935 that leaves at 10:35am to LAX... the past few times I've flown since United has moved to terminal 2, there have been short lines at checkin, short lines at security... maybe this review is premature, but I've been quite happy with the switch! A few gripes/points, however: -as others have said, the walks can be substantial within the terminal. I don't mind this so much, however. I'd rather this than it feel claustrophobic. -few lower end and takeaway food/drink options. -few food and beverage options once you walk to your gate. Mine had a Boots with horrible looking pasta salads/sandwiches and vending machines. That's it. Yup, that's my main complaint. Food for when you don't have time to sit down. Even a Pret would be appreciated... Maybe I just missed it? Nero doesn't quite cut it in the food department. read more

Terminal 2 also known as The Queens Terminal is fairly new and as a result has an open bright and airy layout. Security is well organized and gives you an opportunity to sort out your carry on as you approach. So no excuses if you still try to bring on prohibited items. Security staff are efficient and keep things moving. As usual it is the travelers that slow things down. There are a number of food options as well as basic grocery at Boots and WH Smith. Good opportunity for last minute shopping from luxury to economy. It is a little bit of a hike to the gates but in advance of sitting for 8+ hours I don't mind at all. read more

One thing to realize about the Queen's Terminal 2 at London Heathrow is its laid out in a way that you'll be doing a lot of walking to get to your gate. Another thing is the British seem to love their really long escalators because there's a really long escalator in this terminal that takes you to a tunnel that eventually emerges at gates and it's a lot of walking. Like, many have mentioned, give yourself a lot of time when departing from Heathrow. Security in comparison to other airports I've been through is incredibly strict. Don't try to sneak water through because you'll just be wasting other people's time. If you're hungry or want to do some duty-free shopping, do it before you head to your gate as there isn't much once you head down those escalators...other than the occasional club, and if you're heading to a club then you're probably not buying food in the terminal. The process is the same on arrival. From our gate to passport control was quite the walk so use the restroom upon de-boarding because it'll be a while before you'll be able to go again. read more

So, Terminal 2 is the new terminal. It's clean, and it isn't at all as confusing to find my way around as say, DFW airport. The people here are helpful if you make sure to tell them exactly what you need. The biggest plus for me is the fact that Costa Coffee was here waiting for me, haha. I arrived super early as my study abroad people advised me to, although I think perhaps I didn't have to leave as early as they said because now I'm waiting for a 9:30 flight while I write this at 7:00. I can't complain about anything here, to be honest. Hell, another plus comes from the fact that when I checked in to my Air Lingus flight, they let me change my seat if I wished-well I wished, and I now have a window seat. Will there be pictures taken? Perhaps. Will I put pictures on my social media of choice for all my friends and family to see? Yes. Could I do that with the aisle seat that I started out with? Nope. Now for a comment on the airport itself as a whole. When we arrived in London, I'm not sure which terminal we ended up at, but going through customs was a long process. I will admit there were a lot of us, so of course the line would be long and slow, but hey we got through in one piece. The biggest problem I have is that, for some reason, I cannot get the wifi on my phone to work. I don't mind pulling out my laptop to work, and there are times I need to do exactly that, and I prefer it, but I would still like to be able to work with my phone too. Every terminal at Heathrow is great. Even this one. They've spent a lot of money investing in things to make the airport experience less annoying. You can't make the fake fear-mongering security nonsense go away but you can make the seats comfortable and the atmosphere pleasant instead of manic. Gatwick have done something similar, leaving Stansted and Luton far behind. It's not like you get to choose which terminal you fly from, and nobody is ever going to choose a different, more expensive flight just because it goes from a different terminal, so it's not like you have much of a choice whether or not you fly through here, but it's nice to know that if you do have to fly through here it will be nice, and you'll get to tell all your friends you're at the Queen's terminal (as meaningless as saying it's Darth Vader's terminal in reality, but it might make you feel warm and fuzzy if you like little old ladies) :) read more

Nice new remodel with decent duty free and the occasional deal. In my instance, I scored a liter of Cointreau (one of the most popular ingredients in many classic cocktails) for 15 quid. The terminal is large, but due to the high capacity of the airport, it is often busy. A bit of warning to those departing from the B terminal (United), it is about a 10-minute walk under the runway and you will build up a sweat getting there. Overall, a great place to spend an hour or so. Free wi-fi is not up and running, yet. read more

Not the place to be if you need assistance. The special service team was awful! I was told by the gentleman that he cannot it assist for more than 10 minutes, he dropped me at a cafe after security, but did not tell me no one could return to pick me up. Then no one could call to help me get another chair. Another passenger assisted me getting to the people at a special services staging area where no one interested when I tried to tell them what happened. No one her was available to get me another chair so I sat at the wait station. I understand there is a rule they need 5 passengers before they may drive the carts BUT there is no regard for the size of the person, the equipment they have or all their carry on items. The agents insist there must be 5 passengers no exceptions. They will wait and rearrange the passengers on the cart to make them fit. Then move to another holding area and told just wait till we move you. I asked about assistance to the ladies room and to purchase something to eat and drink. The response was we will help you but when I asked, "well I cannot help you, you need to wait till someone comes here, we cannot call anyone for you." BTW 36 minutes later another employee showed up and assisted me. I do not know if this behavior and my experience was due to a cultural difference but this was truly an interesting experience. There is more immediate assistance for WiFi issues. read more

One of the nicest airport terminals I've been to. It is brightly lit with natural lighting and with great views of the tarmac. Additionally, there are a number of places to eat and shop -- definitely not a bad place to spend a few hours. The food can be pricey, but I don't think it's unreasonable relative to other airports/local food prices. The only problems I noticed in this terminal are with regards to bathrooms and gates. There are very few stalls in most of the bathrooms so wait times can be lengthy. The gates are often not announced until boarding time, so you can be left in suspense and then faced with a long jog to your gate. read more

The best airport in all of London. This is the largest airport and the closest to the city center, so ideally the best option for flying in or out whether it be international or domestic flights. Before coming to this airport, I also went through Stansted and Gatwick, but it's easy to say this one is the best. The other airports take 1-1.5 hours by car or bus depending on traffic, but since this one is closer, its much less travel time to the main city area. The airport was easy to navigate and had lots of options for restaurants & shopping. Another bonus: Free wi-fi. The security and check in process seems to run smoothly, at least it did for us while we were here. London has many airports to choose from, but if at all possible, do yourself a favor and fly through Heathrow for an easy and pleasant travel experience. read more

Their gate is so long, it took 15 minutes to walk to our gate!!! I don't know how elder or disabled people can make it! Also Travelex asked to show your item over 500 euro to the customs which is located AFTER the security. Which means you CAN'T put them in your check in luggage...!!! Btw the walk to the customs after security check is also quite LONG!!! Overall a really horrible experience. Other than the airport is now newer and nicer looking if that really matters after all the drama of carrying heavy stuff walked soooooo much!!! read more

Finally, LHR's Terminal 2 has been upgraded. Phew. It was about time. The overall layout reminded me of Terminal 5 - the way check-in, security and the waiting areas are arrenged are more or less an exact copy of Terminal 5. However, who the hell (sorry) had the idea of using elevators (small lifts) to connect the tube level to the actual check-in (or arrivals) level? Long queues will form whenever there is heavy traffic at the terminal. Which is basically always. Alternatively, you can use a series of escalators - which will, on your way up or down, expose you to the wilderness of the British weather since some of them run outside the building. Finally, do not underestimate the transfer times to your departure gate which may be housed in one of the distant (!) satellite terminals, and thus may involve walking at a brisk pace for about twenty minutes. Yikes. All in all, a decent improvement over the old Terminal 2. read more
