Years ago,  on one of my favorite TV shows, the character, Colonel Hannibal Smith of the A Team loved to say " I love it when a plan comes together" and thus the source that I stole this from. I planned a well deserved vacation enroute back to Kenya from London, stealing an opportunity of a lifetime to visit and immerse myself in the African country of Seychelles. The Seychelles, in my opinion, is a close to a perfect tropical paradise as you can imagine, but I'll keep looking. My first leg of this journey was flying from Heathrow Airport to Doha aboard Qatar Airways, which is always a real pleasure.  A short two hour layover there, then off into the wild blue to Mahe Island, Seychelles.   We are staying at the Anantara Maia resort, an ocean front masterpiece of nature, beauty and tropical architecture. Being met by their transport vehicle complete with a cool minty fresh washcloth and cool tropical drink did add to my accolades for them,  even before setting eyes on their beautiful locale.  For those dreaming of locations such as fiji, while they are still on my list, shouldn't sleep on the Seychelles, one of the finest on the Indian Ocean. Succulent local fruits and veggies await thy palates (since going plant based, I can only attest to their veggies, fruits and they fed my sweet tooth well with intricate local pastries .  I had the privilege of 8 nights there, which still wasn't enough. I came here on a Sunday for my flight back home. I arrived significantly early because I needed to speak with baggage enquiries regarding my lost luggage (never arrived when I flew in from Belgrade to London 4 days prior). I tried calling the company responsible way too many times to count since the day after my luggage was promised to be delivered to me had passed, but no one ever picked up, and I was unable to leave a voicemail. I managed to find baggage enquiries at this terminal, but instead of being able to talk to someone, it was just a call box. I managed to speak to an employee who graciously took the time to escort me to an unauthorized office of the airport, so I can speak with the right person that could help me. This individual went above and beyond to try to locate my luggage. He was unable to due to no fault of his own (apparently the luggage system crashed at the airport the connecting airport in Belgrade). He took down my info along with my file reference number so he can pass this along, so my luggage could hopefully be shipped to me. He even gave me advice on what to do if it is not returned to me after a certain period of time. I wish I remembered the names of these two employees that went out of their way to help me. They made an anxious experience into a brighter one with their help. I'd also like to add that this was my sixth time flying into or out of Heathrow airport, and I always had a nice experience, thankfully. read more

It is a complete nightmare getting through security. They look for everything, and they pull everything out of your bag. The food options are average and all the shopping is high-end and insanely expensive. read more

I tried to give it half a star but couldn't. The release your flight info 30 minutes before you board. The drinks in all the little shops (also the only place to get a quick bit to each with poor options) are hot. Security makes you take everything out of your bag. Bad experience. read more

Hello London Heathrow airport. The mighty mega airport that dukes it out with the best of them. Its big, bad and ever so busy, this airport is definitely one of the busiest airports in the world. C'mon now,, it services the shopping capital of the world. So you know you're bound to get bombarded with retail and all sorts of other shops. There are restaurants as well, but I usually fly out of this airport in the morning time, so all I ever actually encounter is their coffee shops. The terminals are rather spacious, spacious enough that even at its peak hours, it doesn't seem too crowded at all. Plus there are shops around the Immediate gate area, to keep passengers busy until it's time to board their flight. Anyways, it's just like any other airports. Your only responsibility is to arrive early enough to cover the stupid nonsense stuff that arises. Like, uber long lines at immigration and security. Your tardiness is not their problem, it's yours. Anyway, life goes on and I like this airport a lot. Make sure you keep your patience hat on. This is a Major European hub you know. read more

Not the best feeling to be going through Immigration Control after a 10.5 hours flight but its a must for every country checking who comes in and out of their borders. The staff were surprisingly friendly and the stores and restaurants in the terminal were nice and clean. The boarding process was fairly efficient. My experience at London Heathrow overall was 100% better than flying into Dallas-Forth Worth with American Airlines. read more

Has to be easily my worst experience 'arriving' at a country. My wife being a student, we had a queue of 3 hours to clear the immigration!( There was a separate queue for students, normal people got cleared faster - may be in an hour or so!) Cant imagine why this wasn't planned better by the operations team. September being student intake time, it was expected that a lot of students are inbound, why wasn't immigration having enough personnel for screening? Let's face it - a ginormous international airport isn't all that different from any other. At least the security agents in the US are friendly and nice. The security agents in Heathrow? Mean and not friendly - at all. I had the equivalent of vegan goat cheese in my bag (and bread) because that was going to be my meal (since most airlines don't really do vegan food, or any food, very well). When I took it out of the refrigerator in the morning, it was solid. It softened up a bit but it's not at all what I would consider "liquid" and I rather doubt that actual goat cheese would be classified as "liquid." When my bag was searched - the mushroom pate was set aside, and the suspect container of Shreese pulled out. I asked why it was a problem. "It's liquid." "That's not liquid." "Look, I'm just doing my job - you can make it harder or let me just do it." "How do you determine whether something is liquid?" "It's PHYSICS - if it can be spread or poured, it's liquid." "Most things are liquid if you have them at the right temperature - even you or me. This is the same as goat cheese - but it's made from soya. It's definitely not liquid at cooler temperatures but if we heat it up, I'm sure you can pour it." "I'm not the one who determines these things. It's science - liquid is a liquid." "Actually, glass is liquid - it's always moving, though at ambient temperatures it's very slow - and you let it go through. So is aluminum, actually." Silence and a scowl. My lip balm and mushroom pate (both spreadable) were not considered liquid. My bag was returned for scanning. Seriously. "Science" "Physics"? After having me taste it - the supervisor (who was friendly, apologetic and cheerful) gave approval. Look, I know that the whole incident with liquids happened at Heathrow - but that was something that took YEARS of planning - required very specific mixing together of small quantities of liquids in a place where nobody could watch and the plan was never carried off. Do we really all have to suffer for this one stupid attempted criminal act? I have some mixed feelings -- while I don't feel threatened by someone's tube of mascara taking away the bottles of spray perfume from the old Italian ladies is probably a good idea before getting on a plane - whew! Once through security - welcome to the Heathrow Terminal 4 Duty Free Shopping Mall! Lots of overpriced crap that you don't need, pretend you are wealthy so you can indulge in "luxury" mass consumer products. How about a nice organic cafe so we can buy a green smoothie and have a nice salad? read more

It's a perfectly fine terminal. It's not as good as some others. Some of the Duty Free places don't have the selection of other terminals. Fortunately, I can still get the things I care about. I'm just thrilled that there is a non-stop from Salt Lake City to Heathrow, so I can't complain too bad. read more

GOOD: - It's a location in Terminal 4 where you can try to get real food. BAD: - I ordered their main burger and got a paddy that was no where as large as the buns. In two bites I would have eating all of the burger and left with much more buns. The burger was also very mediocre in taste. - On the menu they advertise offering lemonade, but what I got was Sprite. When I inquired about it they said that their lemonade is Sprite. Why indicate lemonade when you're going to give Sprite? - It took for ever for someone to realized that I was done with my meal and to bring the check. Further to that they didn't even check-up on me to make sure the meal was to my liking. Overall, not a good food option especially when they advertise themselves as a restaurant. read more

Wifi: Welcome Back Sandra! Yes! i do feel welcome. London is always a 'foodfest'. But also when it comes to shopping and, if no rain, long walks. And as my husband noticed too, the staff in restaurants and stores are so friendly! Take notes Amsterdam. Although I love you too! But for Heathrow, noting more then good words. Terminal 4 is always a pleasure. My main complaint is mostly the travelers who don't speak English (or just don't pay attention), who seem clueless and get paged constantly. Endless speaking over the loud speaker to call these people gets annoying. Another ultra- douchey annoyance is the disgustingly conspicuous caviar/champagne bar - usually packed with some immodest rich middle eastern businessmen trying to get attention. Lame and hilarious. Overall a good terminal. I was a bit disappointed that the Ted Baker shop closed recently though. read more

What a confusing place! I always allow a lot of time before a flight, especially an international one, and good thing too! We were dropped off by the horribly Hoppa bus and proceeded inside. We didn't see United right away so we looked at one of the screens. We went to the location indicated on the screens which happened to be on the other side of the terminal and when we got there, we were told "oh this is only for customer service issues, you need to go back to the other side of the terminal". We fly all the time and typically several times a year internationally and this is one of the most disorganized and poorly laid out terminals I have been in. Once you check in, drop your bag, and make your way through security, you are in the food/shopping area where you must wait until you flight is assigned a gate. We wanted a coffee so we went to the Costa coffee and sat and drank/ate. Th bad thing is that there are no monitors around there, so my husband had to keep walking back to the shopping area to see if our flight had been assigned a gate. Why aren't there display screens near the food places? It makes no sense. I don't know who designed this place but they failed. The only positive thing was that there was plenty of seating at each gate and that's not a building design thing, so I'm not giving that person any credit. read more

After flying on KLM, we quickly went through passport check. Headed easily to get our bags at baggage claim. There were signs easy to see and follow. We had a wait to get our bags and then one was mysteriously not there, but luckily it was at the counter when we inquired. We were in terminal 4, which didn't seem to have much. There were two currency exchanges and the Costa cafe and a WH Smith. read more

Easily the worst laid out departure area I've seen in a while. Poor selection of eateries here and it's all expensive or not tasty. Dark in places and I don't mean the areas under construction. Needs a refreshen up and new design team on the case. read more

This place is enormous. Just so long as you don't have to go to a different terminal, things will be okay. But the fact that you have to use Heathrow Express (um, express = the opposite of what it actually is) to go between terminals is ridiculous. Provide a way for us to walk - we'd get there faster. Honestly a terribly designed airport. HOWEVER, if you are just coming/going from one terminal, this place is fine. The fact that there is super-short-term free wifi is also ridiculous. People are coming in from all over the world, and may not have a way to get in touch w/ the outside world. Get a clue and give some free wifi. The food options are okay, the security line is pretty well organized, and the staff were quite friendly (I flew w/ Delta). Overall, this place needs some serious love... but there are worse airports. read more

Definitely NICE! All the Skyteam airlines are here plus few other ones. It is a big terminal, easy accessible with a good, not exceptional security checking area. it might take sometimes to pass trough if it is a busy time and you are unlucky to get in one of those slow motion queues... it happens :) Passed the checking ... SHOP .. and Shop..!! A very very long corridor with shops on mostly both sides, and some internal ones also... very nice and all the brands are here... also nice PINK shirt shop which I love. Service is good and looks like everyone is very nice. A lot of food courses available... for any taste.. and of course drinks everywhere... remember you are still in UK :) Access to gates is good and monitors providing information are scattered all over the main concourse. Seating in abundance but it can get very very full ... so you might not seat right in front of the gate.... they clearly want you to move around to shop for something. Free WiFi which works... even if you need to provide your email. It would be a 5 stars if it weren't for the main walk way really too busy and messy due to the seating right in the middle and the one security checking gate which i think slows down a lot. When you come in, if you hold an E passport.. all the checking are automated, scan and go. read more

Heathrow Terminal 4 is actually a pretty decent place, particularly over the holidays. Plenty of passenger drop off space, well staffed check in desks, and a very clean, slick terminal over all. The staff were working to ensure minimum wait times and shuffling passengers in long queues to the priority desks rather than letting them sit empty waiting for the occasional first class passenger as so many places do. Security was likewise very efficient with there being 5 different lines operating. They are also very thorough as I was selected for a random security search (no surprise there) and the guy patted me down intimately including checking inside of my waistband which was a tad close to comfort. Shopping options are the usual duty free range that has a exclusive contract with BAA. Quite large alcohol selection and it's worth noting that blue price tags mean anyone can buy it whereas green require you to be leaving the EU. I stocked up on a couple of bottles for the expected post-wedding reception after party that my mates and I tend to throw after every wedding we go to. Last time we ended up buying a $120 bottle of Absolut via room service to keep the party going so aiming to avoid that this time. There is a Harrods mini-store, a Dixons and a WH Smith but I think that's about it. Food is a bit limited with Heathrow avoiding fast food options. I'm not the biggest fan of McD's, but it always seems to be the easiest travel food. There is an Apostrophe here and a couple of pub style sit down restaurants. Nothing exciting but it will stop you from starving I suppose. Whatever happened to good old food courts in airports? All this classy stuff is just a bit too expensive for my tastes (and wallet!) Overall, a good experience and a great way to start this trip! read more

Not a huge fan of this terminal after experiencing the new refurbished terminal 5. Places to eat here are scarse, not many options, and not even filling. The duty free is good though if you want to do a bit of shopping, but meh, heathrow lacks what most international airports have. read more

I've never reviewed an airport terminal, but why not? Heathrow Terminal 4 is my standard for going home for work/play. So I've been visiting it. Quite a lot. Overall, I think it's your standard terminal. Duty Free shops galore, lots of Harrods shops and other designer goodies you can get at a slight discount. Not a lot of dining options, however. After coming through security, if you turn to the left there's a little American style diner which is ooooooookay, but nothing stellar. If you like your fried/poached eggs runny, you're likely out of luck in this place. I speak from experience. That being said, also to the left, there's a Pret to save the day for generally decent sandwiches. I will say that a benefit to Terminal 4 seems to be that you don't ever have to wait for your gate to be announced as you do in some of the other terminals/London airports, forcing you to mill about in the shops forever. Just be warned that if you've forgotten that many moons ago you had put a small hand sanitizer in your laptop bag... they take it EXTREMELY seriously. Comically so. Well, comically now. Not so much at the moment. read more

A pretty decent international airport terminal. The arrivals area is laid out in typical airport fashion. Getting through customs and immigration was relatively easy and painless. My only gripe is that there are no bathrooms once you get off the plane until you make your way all the way to the immigration counters. Do they realize that people have been packed into tight planes for upwards of 10 hours??? The departures check in is quite busy and can be a bit intimidating with all the lines and crowds. Once you make it through security, however, you are greeted with enough duty free shops to rival any shopping mall. The gate that my flight left out of was under construction so it was a bit of a mess in that area, but the overall general terminal was decent. 45 minutes of free Wi-Fi is a welcome gift anywhere in the terminal. read more

I'm always a bit disappointed whenever my flight departs from or arrives at Terminal 4. It's not that there's anything especially wrong with the terminal, just that it feels away from the action. You have take an extra train to get here, and you get the sense its playing little brother to the gigantic Queens Terminal. I often find myself here when visiting the UK because it's where Malaysia Airlines flys from, and as a terminal it's acceptable. It's spacious, clean and easy to navigate through, although there's not an abundance of places in which to stop and eat, or have a pre-flight drink. You'll breeze through here, but do so without finding much character. read more

I went in March 2015 through Heathrow T4 and when I went, it was one of the most organized airports/customs entry I had ever been in. One thing to note, the walk from the security checkpoint to the actual gate can be long. But for me, it was fine as it gave me a chance to walk before getting on the longhaul flight. By the terminal, there are some small eateries, newsstands, drugstore for last minute needs. read more

It's clean, tidy and has free wifi. As fair as airports go Heathrow ain't doing too bad. There's regular train services from London out to Heathrow which is a heaven send. The trains stop at either terminal 4 or terminals 1,2,3. As far as shopping and eateries go there isn't much happening here. Thankfully within the international departures at terminal 4 there's a Pret Manager so you can get slightly healthy and affordable food. Across the terminal you'll find a whole heap of information boards which seemed to be updated regularly. Always nice when your waiting to find out which gate your flying from. read more

I remember when T4 was new, and it was easily the coolest terminal to fly from. You had to fly BA if you wanted to fly from there and it was all modern and smart. That was in the 80's though. Now it's still not bad, but has been superceded by T5 at Heathrow and Gatwick (since the refurbishment), both of which are a more pleasant experience. But it's still better than Stansted or Luton. read more

Amongst the Heathrow terminals, Terminal 4 is probably the most disappointing one - not because it's the worst experience, but because it is one of the newer terminals and they should have designed it better. You can forgive a 70's building its brutalism and lack of character, but with a newer building you would hope they had learned their lessons - alas, not so. A number of shops and cafe places make the terminal bearable as you wait for your flight. It is functional enough, which counts in its favour. However, it is definitely a place you will be eager to get out of and move on from. read more

This was our first time flying in and out of this airport. I always appreciate going through security when your don't have to take your shoes off. Just after the security area, there are lots of duty free shops. A last chance to pick up items before leaving the country. There are a few places to eat in this terminal, but the choices are limited. Our flight was on time, so that was a nice surprise. Pretty straight forward experience and we are looking forward to returning some day. read more

Getting through security and customs was easy,very nice and patient staff. Then it was the duty free which is great, loads of shops including harrods with a wide range of jewelry and designer boutiques. Other than the lounges available there are plenty of places to eat and have coffee from coffee shops to sushi and burgers restaurants. read more
