It is simple enough to get to Heathrow Terminal 5 via public transit. Make sure you are on the right train line AND that it goes all the way to the end station you are needing. Not all Picadilly lines in this direction go all the way to Heathrow, let alone every terminal. I found it frustrating to then find departures from the underground. I HAD to take an elevator, or at least that is what an airport worker advised. I would have preferred stairs or escalator, but it seemed impossible and a lift was required. Still, I would make this choice in the future to get to central London or back to the airport from central London. It is affordable and fairly easy, especially if you had a small amount of luggage. read more

Beautiful Terminal with so many high end shops. If you didn't get to Harrods you can stop in the store here. Security was very picky. Make sure you have ALL your liquids in a plastic bag or they will go through your bags. The terminal has a few nice Priority Lounges and clear visible signage. We took a hotel shuttle to Terminal 5. Do allow 30 minutes for the shuttle to arrive at the airport. The shuttle makes a number of stops at various hotels to take other passengers. There is a charge for the shuttle. We were given complimentary boarding tickets so no worries. The bus is comfortable and stops at Terminal 5 home to British Airways. Security here was a breeze. Granted, it's been decades since I've been through Heathrow Airport. But.... wow. I flew in on American Airlines and then I had to catch my flight on British Airways. I was able to enjoy this airport for three hours. What an incredible airport with multiple restaurants and shoppes. Plenty of working space and seating areas for passengers waiting for their next flight. Kudos to the airport cleaning staff for keeping the airport clean. The gate / terminale signage is very well marked. It was very easy to maneuver around this airport. This airport expects an awful lot from passengers while not giving much in return. The staff, for the majority, contradict each other constantly, and for the most part have bad attitudes. The security lines are always horrendous, the gates aren't announced early enough before departure so passengers can't really relax, eat, shop like would be expected for an airport with so many retailers and eateries. It's simply gotten worse over the years. Avoid LHR altogether whenever possible. read more

The airport is fine. There is a lot of walking from plane getting to and customs. As expected. I know for a fact that getting wheelchairs for my elderly parents is such a pain. I understand staff are overwhelmed with the number of people getting wheelchairs. Once checked in and baggage dropped, we had to go to a section of Airport that was just chaos. There is no line configuration, so if you're waiting, someone can just cut in front. Once we finally got the chairs, which was like 1 hour waiting, luckily, we went to the airport early. They took my parents and myself through security, which was okay with no issues. Then they told me that they would take my parents to the gate on the buggy and I had to make myself there. No problem. Once I got to the gate, I saw my parents struggling to stand and get in line to board, and no assistant was with them and no wheelchair chairs! As I realized, they just dropped them at the area of the gate and left. Service at Heathrow has gotten so bad that I can not let my parents travel through that airport alone anymore ( they are well traveled people, but the age has made it very hard for them). Someone needs to sort this out for passengers who struggle with disabilities. There were so many frustrated passengers waiting and bring ignored. had a connecting flight at LHR - no signs, no help, no "helpers"; i ended up having to go through immigration + security again. DO NOT CONNECT HERE. I'd suggest avoiding any airline that does. Oh, and one other thing: I've noticed the signs everywhere demanding respect for the "helpers" - from the passengers. yeah, well, respect is a two-way street. I get that you're overworked, but passengers dealing with them suffer too. And shouldn't. Try respecting the passengers and you wouldn't need as many of those signs. If you're stuck on a lengthy layover and it's at Heathrow Terminal 5, I would say you've struck gold. This place is a little chunk of this lovely city stacked into these gates filled with lovely gifts, loads of liquor and no shortage on high fashion boutiques. I can see how this place can get crazy so come prepared to maneuver your way around quickly. Also remember that their Security checks require you put all of your travel size liquids into separate plastic ziplocks to help move through efficiently. read more

In general, Heathrow was a hot mess and crowded when we were there in October. We experienced 3 hours of delay with numerous gate changes by the British Airways. There were long lines for food. And the Terminal connections were very confusing. Tips: If you want peace and quiet, go down to the tunnel/sub-basement. They have some chairs to sit down there. The tunnel also connects to all terminals. You just need to walk and figure out which elevator takes you back up to earth. read more

My, My, my Heathrow International Airport. It's been a while since I been through you. You have made quite an expansive renovation to the old Heathrow. Things are very glitzy, modernized, very accommodating for limited capability persons (I like this ter better than disabled). The matrix underground traveling connector bus from terminal 3 where we landed from Nairobi on a British Airways Boeing 777 must be in another zip code from terminal 5 where My connecting flight departed from. Kudos to British Airways for a great flight and superb aircraft as it maintained my wifi connection for the entire 8hr flight. As I'm awaiting my connection to jfk, I only have on complaint/suggestion. As a still striving to quit cigarette smoker, just landed from a 8hr flight, it would be nice for Heathrow to take a page from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi an, after the security juggernaut is completed, there are isolated rooms, called I think, the smokers den, to appease folks before boarding, especially long flights. Those rooms has a significant exhaust system that expells the smoke out of the building,providing accommodation to all. read more

This airport knows how to get it done, security, food, lounges- you name it- they do it! TIP! Watch the screens constantly for when your flight posts to get to your gate- once it posts, everyone starts rushing to the gate a lining up. Security tip: Put ALL liquids in your zip lock bag, leave NO liquids anywhere in your carry-ons, this includes all of your makeup ladies! You know what that means- mascara, lip gloss all of it-they will pull your bag to the side and the next thing you know you are standing there waiting to be searched. If you follow their rules you will fly through. Love London's Fastpass- it is so fast so have yourself ready! :) Electronics out, liquids out, watch your bins and move move move! Lol read more

Big airport, they have underground metro train, so if you have a long hours of layover, you can go to arrival point passing the immigration and customs , if you're a US citizens or from the country where it don't required a visa to enter the country, you can use the immigration self checkout, you only need to scan your passport they scan your face and if if matched than you good to go. And walk all the way passing customs and all the way to the corner where they have a place where you can stored your luggage, ours cost £30 for 2 carry on. Then there's a station for you to buy sim card for your phone if you want and a station to buy train ticket. If you want to visit Buckingham Palace you need to buy a Piccadilly Line, and stop at Green Park Station and walk to Buckingham Palace. And from there just google map to get around its all walking distance to Trafalgar Square, Big Ben Clock, Westhimer Abbey, you can go cross the river which we didnt do due not enough time. And going back go through the Piccadilly Square back to the Green Park Station back to Terminal 5 airport. read more

Before I got back home in MIA, I thought this airport was like a zoo. Tons of people with what looks like over 100 terminals. To check your flight status on the boards is like finding a needle in a haystack. How the heck can they hold this many people under one roof, and where do all they came from? But after I came home and went through my worst nightmare at MIA, now I feel this airport was actually not too bad. Yes, its a big airport, but it was actually not too difficult getting in and out. We had a connecting flight at another terminal, so we had to travel and get there by train. The train came fairly quickly, and it was not bad getting in and out. Because our flight was located in another terminal, we had to go through the security point all over again. Luckily both my boss and I travel light. We didn't check in any bags and we didn't travel with any liquids. Otherwise, we'd ended up like other people, taking all the liquid they traveled with out from their luggage and put them into clear plastic bags. We basically just walked through the lines, got into the body scanner machine, and on to our way. The whole process took maybe like 15 minutes. (keep this in mind until you read my review on MIA later). Overall not too bad of an experience. The airport seemed clean and looks like its well maintained. I feel pretty safe even its one of the most busiest airport in Europe. Most of all, I was able to dine in one of the most amazing seafood restaurants in one of the terminals. That place served the best seafood I've ever had. Wait until you read my review of that place. PS: MIA sucks big time!!! read more

Everybody always tell horror stories from heathrow but the airport was not that busy when I got there. I got in midday on a Monday. It was not a bad experience! I love the train system of London and how easy it is to get around the city. They got three or four different train lines though and one is more expensive than the other. I just have one tip, do your research and don't buy your tickets from those machines. Wait till you get to the train to buy your ticket because that ticket cant be used for all trains. Leaving Heathrow for Paris was a different experience. It was SO BUSY! terminal five didn't fit everybody from the looks of it. They need like 100 more charging stations for the amount of bodies it holds. read more

Positives: most people very helpful and friendly. Some healthier food options. Great quiet area with loungers. My wife is napping. Way too many stinky perfume shops. That section reeks. They make it nearly impossible to opt out of their "safe" scanner at the security check. I was randomly selected for that after I went through the metal detector. They said I'd have to wait up to halo and hour for the opt out pat down and go to a private room for that and also be swiped with a metal detector. It is also pretty spread out so lots of walking. read more

No walking for miles past broken travelators in skanky corridors. It was actually a pleasant experience. The shuttle runs every 10 minutes while there is a plane landing every other minute. It is 'organized' in a way that if you are standing in line chances are everyone who arrives there later, gets in first. Give yourself time to transfer between terminals. read more

It's an underground station so it's limited how excited you can get about it, but what I will say is it's one of my favourites in the underground field. There always seems to be a tube there waiting to take me towards central London. It's clean and straightforward to get around. It's easy to get a ticket for it and work out where you are going. If your arriving in Heathrow and heading into London in my opinion the tube is the best way to go. read more

What a brilliant airport terminal. Loads of space, very quick check in times and a great selection of places to eat once you get through security. Ah, security. The place where staff bark at you in military fashion to take off your shoes! remove your belt! It must be a boring, frustrating job to have to repeat yourself in this fashion all day long, it must get annoying when people don't respond as quickly as you'd like them to and it must be awful to have to shepherd hordes upon hordes of people in a small space. But hey, staff of Terminal 5 - get off my case! Try smiling, backing off the schoolteacher yell and saying please and thank you once in a while. Oh I do like it here. I was actually working for BA when they were buidling this, so I got to have a play before it opened (and then left before it all went tits up once they opened). But I didn't go back until recently. And it's just fun, isn't it? Everything is well laid out, and by that i mean that everything is laid out to make you spend money. It's got all the luxury brands, it's got nice places to eat and it's just fun. I'm rubbish at airports. I get stressed out until I'm through security (I basically think someone is going to plant a shedload of bad things in my carry on - that's normal, right?) but once I'm through security, I want to play and have fun with all the things. I suddenly want champagne and posh things. I want to upgrade my boring seat to one with lots of bells and whistles. Terminal Five is excellent at making me think that I have more money than i do. But usually, once I've had a nose around Chanel and come to my senses, I'm just as happy with a copy of Living Etc and a latte out of a plastic cup. There's a holiday at the end, so that'll do me just fine. Full marks Terminal Five, you make me excited, feel a bit posh and feed me. Can't argue with that. read more

It's difficult to review airports, it's not like you can give a place 1 star and then never fly from there again especially if it's somewhere like Heathrow but as airports go I'm a big fan of Terminal 5. Although it opened in a flurry of controversy and outrage, the fuss has now died down and it's actually a really lovely airport with a futuristic feel. Washed up Garfunkel's and 'fake airport pubs' have been replaced with oyster bars, sushi stands and even a Wagamama's so your 2 hours between check-in and departure are about 10 times more enjoyable than in other airports! If you have the option, try and fly from here over anywhere else I promise you'll feel the same. read more

Ok, we all know what a disaster the opening week of Terminal 5 has been, and you're probably wondering why I've given it 4 stars. Well, if you ignore the fact that my original flight was cancelled and my rebooked flight delayed by two hours, the actual experience of being in Terminal 5 is quite pleasant. Using the kiosk to check myself in was incredibly simple and going through security was fine. From check-in to shopping for a Wii at a tax-free price in HMV, took less than 10 minutes. If you're going to get stuck in an airport, at least Terminal 5 has plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you amused. The lack of announcements (they only do final calls) means that there's a calm atmosphere (after security). My normal pre-flight stress was minimal, in part thanks to this. Ok, T5 is running at below capacity at the moment, and there are clearly some massive kinks to be ironed out, but all in all, it's a huge improvement on the disaster areas like Terminal 3. read more

I have been to quite a lot of airports around the world, and the new Terminal 5 is definitely one of the better ones. This large impressive glass structure covers a huge area with an impressive range of shops and other things to keep you occupied whilst you wait for your plane. I also was privileged enough to try the one of the BA lounges, and that was large, comfortable and plush. As usual several free bar areas with some excellent red wine. One stange thing is they had a cool section that had fruit juices and white wine in, which is fine, but they also had some red wine in the cooler - very strange! I was travelling light, so as not to risk the wrath of the baggage handling system: the DIY check-in was quick and passport control was OK. Considering it was relatively quiet security seemed to take ages, and this is despite the fact that I didn't need to remove my laptop from the bag before X-ray, so it should have been quicker. As soon as they sort out the baggage handling systems then T5 is highly recommended and an impressive introduction to the UK rather than most of the other UK airports. read more

OK, so like most who have braved Terminal 5 in the past few months, I was preparing myself for a living nightmare. It actually turned out just fine - I'll start at the beginning: I arrived at Terminal 5 by car, using the Business Car Park. I hadn't booked but this wasn't a problem - took a ticket and found a space in a few minutes. This isn't the cheapest option by any stretch of the imagination, it's about £20 a day, but it's pretty convenient with a bus that does genuinely leave every 5 minutes and literally does take 5 minutes to get to the terminal a mere stone's throw away. I wasn't taking any chances so packed all my things for the weekend in one carry-on bag. I had also checked in online - but to be honest there were lots of check in kiosks (the automatic ones) at the terminal so I wouldn't worry if you didn't manage to check in before arrival. Walked through security - a bit of a wait, but nothing too long. I don't know what this is like when it's busy, I imagine this bit could be a bottleneck. Once through security you realise that Terminal 5 is quite a nice place to be. The usual plethora of shops, cafes and bars you'd expect but also lots of space and plenty of seating. The seats look like they're designed to be sat on too! My flight was delayed so decided to try out the Ramsey restaurant - Plane Food. A really nice place to kill an hour or two, quiet with decent service (of course) and a simple selection of dishes which, while expensive, probably isn't that different to what's charged at the gastro pub next door. The structure of the building is quite interesting to those interested in these sorts of things. Definitely get the feeling of space. So in summary, not a bad place at all. Now they just have to work on the other terminals. read more

I liked Terminal 5. It is light and airy and has huge TV screens showing the same or different but linked videos. These are brilliant for keeping children amused as you work out what you are supposed to be doing and where you are supposed to be. I do think it is a bit of a shame that you can't really see the airplanes from the cafe whilst you are waiting to wave someone off, or so that you can sit there and watch their plane land if you are waiting for someone. And I think it is dreadful that the little shops don't stock small suitcase padlocks. Maybe they do stock them but they'd run out the day I wanted some. On the other hand the shops on the other side of the security check-in don't over charge you for a bottle of water. (At Geneva airport bottles of water cost the same as a bottle of whiskey!). I'd definately travel from Terminal 5 again even with two tired children in tow but only if someone else is paying for the ticket. BA just doesn't compete with Easyjet on price. read more

How come I haven't got around to reviewing T5 before? Not sure. I am here twice a week so as a place it's as much part of what I do as anywhere else. Maybe that's why. The journey through the airport here is now so easy and comfortable, that I take it for granted. The building is light and spacious, the choice of food and shopping extremely good and alone amongst British terminals they usually seem to have cracked the staff - bag check - passenger numbers ratio. So a terminal as it should be. Plenty to do if you want, and forgettably stress free if you are here more than is healthy, like me. read more

Ooooof. This place REEKS and not in a pleasant way. Every possible brand/varietal of perfume is sold here. Dozens of glittering shops line this terminal and I suppose they are where you are supposed to hemorrhage money in while you wait to be notified of your gate in the massively overcrowded 'quiet areas' (so dumb). The vast variety and the over enthusiastic spritzing sales people means the entire terminal smells like 1000 unique perfume bottles were smashed simultaneously. It's overpowering. It's nauseating. It's migraine inducing. I'd rate it worst than being folded into a TransAtlantic cattle car for 7 hours with hurricane tailwind turbulence. read more

I managed to be oblivious to the rocky start of T5 until the day of my flight. Luckily it had been up and running long enough to sort out the kinks and I had a hassel-free experience. I arrived via Tube and emerged at the self check-in Kiosks. No problems there. I did have a bag to check and had a pleasant interaction with an employee to accomplish that. (My bag arrived at my destination on-time and unharmed.) Security was a breeze. There was a small line, but shorter than I've encountered at most airports. The terminal itself has a nice feel to it. Rather than being a strictly functional facility, there is an element of interest and also comfort. It has the normal shops found in most airports. T5 is easy to navigate and low stress. I would definitely fly out of here again. read more

We have got it right with Terminal 5. I had the chance to fly to Switzerland from there. I checked in online and had the morning flight and hey it took me less than a minute to check in at the airport in the morning. The space is immense and intense and amazing. This is defintely futuristic architecture. When you check in there is so much choice to eat and drink in the morning. I had the ever so reliable Giraffe breakfast. It was nice as ever. Got the train the to the correct terminal to depart and it was effortless. T5 is GREAT. Check it out and fly out from there and check in online to speed up the process of checking in whilst there. Vast distances between departure gates, sparse flight information screens and only disclosing gates at the last moment can lead to stressful and rushed visits. Usual shops and fast-food outlets. I was there a few months ago and felt it was better than being bused from terminal 1 to terminal 4. Although if you have to go to 'B' gates area, make sure you leave plenty of time the transfer on the special underground can be as quick as 10 minutes or as slow as 45 minutes by the time you negotiate the maze of corridors, escalators and stairs. Signs are confusing and I found the ground staff knew little where as the cabin crew from the flight I came off knew more. Whilst i appreciate security checks a bit more notice of what items we had to remove would have been nice, there were no posters or banners saying what we had to do. This caused chaos and delay by time we got to the scanners. Which were compulsory going from arrivals at 'A' gates to transfer to 'B' gates. If there was the usual McD's or Burger King here I didn't find it. Just an array of fancy sandwich shops, Gordon Ramsay's restaurant and Wagamama's which was a welcome change. The shops were all designer and no 'cheap' bargains to be had. I don't think there is really any bargains to be had anymore in the departure area or 'duty free'. The seating areas are cramped and close together, leaving me feeling like the guy next to me was trying to sit on my lap. Not great if you're on a business trip and trying to catch up with a few emails whilst you wait on your connecting flight. The toilets were better than i've seen in most airports and I hope they stay that way, clean, tidy and functional. There are information screens everywhere but some right in the middle of walk ways where people invariably stop right in front of you to check the screen. Be careful of this as I saw one poor woman be almost bulldozed by a chap steaming through with a cup of coffee in his hand. Overall its nice, light and more friendly than any of the old terminals but could have been designed better. read more

Considering the commotion at the start that Terminal 5 had, i must admit i was pleasantly surprised when i had to use it a month or so ago. Although the headlines were justifiably bad when it seemed like all bags (including mine!) were going missing or on wrong flights, i must admit that the overall user experience is greatly improved now. The self service check in is speedy & efficient, just whatyou want to start your trip off. It is a breath of fresh air to see food establishments such as Carluccios's & Gordon Ramseys in this environment as an alternative to the old sandwich or suspect burger offered elsewhere. Not that i would necessarily make use of these on every trip - but it certainly is offering the customer choice they may not have elsewhere. I just hope the good work continues instead of slipping backwards. read more
