I was intrigued by the classic neon sign the first time I strolled through the neighborhood, but was unaware at the extent of what lie inside. This, my friend, is the largest wine & liquor store I've been to in this city. A woman greets you at the door with free samples of some oversweet liqueur. Looking for wine from Moldova? How about something in a castle-shaped bottle? The aisle full of liquor gift-sets may be an economical way to purchase a new flask. The staff are pretty knowledgeable. As of today, I vow to never shop here again, which is a shame since it's around the corner from my apartment and I've been a regular customer for two years! I should also say at the outset that this review does not include the cashiers who are consistently super helpful and nice, which is a shame because the other staff there are the worst. I just took back my second corked bottle. This is not to mention the others I just poured down the drain and didn't bother to complain about. The first time I actually just mentioned a corked bottle and I got a discount on my next bottle, no questions asked. This time, months later, the "management" tasted the wine along with one of the staff who didn't seem very knowledgeable, and while they did allow me to get a new bottle they aggressively insisted on telling me - even as I was outside the store - that the wine was good as though I was trying to scam them. When I pointed out all the ways they could tell the wine was off, they tried to tell me I just didn't like it and I didn't know anything. Which is insane, because I am actually quite knowledgeable about wine and definitely know when a wine is corked or has been stored in high temperatures. I think they are the ones trying to scam their customers by selling knowingly bad bottles! I also don't think they are that knowledgeable about wine which you can tell from their selection. They are a vastly better liquor store than wine. A well run business would have responded professionally and knowledgeably, and would have given a discount for my trouble, not treated a regular customer as a con artist or criminal. Which leads me to my next point which is that, as other reviews have noted, they follow everyone around here, especially if you are a brown person. Even if you are a professional, educated, well dressed brown person. (And yes, some of the offending staff are indeed other brown people). Good thing there's a lovely new organic wine shop in the neighborhood that I'll gladly give my money to! read more

It's a liquor store! It's huge, and things aren't kept behind a bulletproof-glass window. The selection is pretty big and the prices are right, and there's a good bunch of stuff you're not likely to find elsewhere with a section catering to the Eastern European community in the area. But it's not really the place to go if you're looking for specialty local craft organic buzzword wines. read more

One of the best liquor stores in the Ridgewood area. Perfect place to shop for a drinkable gift. From the vintage neon sign and window display to the inside layout, it's a classic old school liquor store. The way they used have liquor stores back in the day. It's the way liquor stores should be. That's actually the reason for this four star rating. Oh yeah, and the variety. Plenty of firewater variety. The only thing is, it's not exactly that close to my house. So I usually shop somewhere nearby. There's a selection of Polish and German solvents in case you're looking for a bit of Eastern European flavor. I wonder if they carry mead? Shopping there is extremely uncomfortable as they will follow you around like you had a 'thief' written all over you. Sometimes, it takes me some time to select a wine, but having someone behind your shoulder, makes you want to simply leave the place. At first sight, they have a good selection of wines and spirits but if you're into organic wines, the selection is somewhat small. I'd give them two stars, added one more for that one time I was looking for a rare rum and they were very helpful and willing to order it for me. read more

I was in the store May 14th about 2 p.m. and bought a bottle of UVL. We have been in the store many times before with never a problem. Also stopped to buy the numbers at the register. I then left and went straight to my car. We drove 10 blocks and realized we left it there. When we went back the woman cashier said it was not there. This store has EVERYTHING. I'm a bartender and I could spend forever in here. They have so many different wines, liquors, mixers that it's ridiculous. The staff is extremely helpful with one older gentleman being the most knowledgeable. They always have tastings on weekends. Prices are slightly lower than your smaller stores but comparable to current prices. Best are the lesser known brands, such as Coconut Jack, which is similar to Malibu at almost half the price. They also offer coupons in the Times Newsweekly (local Ridgewood/Glendale paper) every week. read more

What was once an eccentric menagerie of wines and spirits is no longer. I miss the funky merchandising and more off beat selections. Here is what the new vibe is all about: the new owners think they're cresting the wave of Ridgewood's new economic demographic. I was taken aback by all the wines above $25 dollars and and lack of ones below. It's as though they think there are now new buyers for all these expensive wines. I doubt it. My suggestion is that they do a better job of finding more mid range wines. It's a blue moon when I come in and splurge on a $40 bottle. A few of these are fine but my sense is that there are too many pricey bottles. Another suggestion: what about some well written remarks about the store favorites? There used to be Ritchey's remarks about bottles here and there that he liked. Now there is nothing to entice the buyer with a little information, tasting notes, or poetry. I can ignore the drop ceiling and more sterile environment if the selections are exciting and decently priced, but so far, I can't say I'm stoked to shop here. read more

This place is big but it has a real family-owned feel to it. The selection is extensive. I generally only buy wine to cook with but there's much more to choose from and the people are very helpful when you ask. The prices are good too. I can't ask for anything more - I just hope they never change the sign out front - pure nostalgia. read more

I have been going there sporadically for years, mainly for gift purchases as I drink little. This place has an amazing selection on display and the only place I am aware of that carries a line of Eastern European wines. My girlfriend who does our wine purchases there swears by the recommendations of the store's wine expert who can usually be found helping customers among the wine racks. Good selection for liquor and wine. Usually the employees are very nice and helpful. Even had one give me an entire lesson on how to select a rum, which was really neat! But, did have an uncomfortable experience with an older salesman today (mustache and greying hair). He followed me around the store when I was trying to select a wine. Sir if I'm going to spend $30 on a bottle you better believe it will take me more than 5 minutes. No good business treats customers this way in 2018, especially when your a top shelf regular. read more

I've been to many liquor stores in the neighborhood that don' t much about their own selection of wine let alone the difference between itailian and spanish wine so when I'm feeling like i want something specific and if it's not a common wine you see here, I head straight for this huge store. This store has a great variety of wines and other liquors. I went in there looking for tempranillo wine, and as opposed to other liquor stores owners who looked at me like they had no idea what i just said, the man in this store knew exactly what I was talking about and pointed me to a section that catered to many different spanish wines. This store also had a decent amount of fruit wines. This was actually the first store I've seen in this neighborhood that carried more then your common red wines If you are feeling like experimenting you need to come here . Though I live in Brooklyn, I used to shop here for Borghetti Caffe Sport Espresso Liqueur. When I went today, I was told they will no longer be carrying it, & was recommended Kahlua Midnight coffee liqueur instead which, as it turns out, tastes awful and is double the price. This is the largest wine/liquor store I have ever been to. It's actually overwhelming, how huge it is! There's aisles and aisles of wine from every region you can think of, every sort of liquor, every sort of mixer. I'm not much of a wine/hard alcohol drinker (more of a beer girl), but when I am in the mood for wine, I definitely want to come back. However, there's so many options, a visit to this place can take a pretty long time. read more

My whole family and many friends shop there. It's funny how every single one us have said, "You know I went to Queens Liquors and they followed me around the store." I noticed they follow ALL their customers around the store. They followed me even after I made my purchases. I forgot something and and some guy followed me up and down 3 idles just starring at me. It's really NOT customer service! It's disturbing. They even had some ghetto guy in there who followed me up and down, up and down every isle trying to pick me up even after I told him leave me alone. "Come on ma, I wanna gets to know you." Really? This store should look up what harassment and discrimination does to business. I have personally made sure everyone I know does not shop there anymore. My word spreads fast. All the stuff there I can get at other liquor stores that might not be as close to my house but provide better customer service then this dump! read more
