This place had a ton of promise when I first discovered it. It has a clean atmosphere, nice people, manageable prices, a decent liquor bar, and it is, of course, a tap room. All was well for over two years except that the barstools were terribly uncomfortable. A few months ago things shifted. The barstools were replaced with more comfortable ones, which is great. Despite this place calling itself a tap room, however, they no longer will give tastes of beers that they have on tap. At least not for free. Yes, you now have to pay to taste a beer that's on tap. The food has also gone downhill. The samosa appetizers, at least the last time we had them, definitely tasted frozen. We also asked for some extra carrots or pita or something (can't remember exactly what it was) and found an up charge on our bill. The icing on the cake was the time my friend's (bottled) beer was brought to her with so much foam pouring out of it that about a fourth of the bottle was puddled on the table. The waitress was not permitted to simply replace her beer: no, she had to go to the owner, Mike, who was not disposed to give my friend another beer. He was eyeing the bottle, lifting it up in the air, and questioning what we had done to it. Who behaves that way when you're running a bar business?! Putting all of those things together, my friends and I will not be returning to Quench. There is something not sitting right about how management is controlling the employees and the minute to minute decisions that need to be made to keep customers happy. It feels as if the customers are now being nickeled and dime and not getting what they used to get for their money. read more

I love this place. It's a good " halfway " location for some friends that live spread out between various areas of Montgomery and Howard counties. So this is based on 5-6 visits over the past 2 years or so. The beer list is great. The food is amazing. Cheesesteak Sub. Wonderful pizza options. A lot of variety, and reasonably priced. The staff has always been great, checking in often with our group and keeping the drinks flowing. Highly recommended. It's also a nice change from various brewpub " tap rooms " that are only able to offer beer. I guess it's a license thing. But not everyone likes beer. So it's another plus that Quench has a full bar. read more

If I could give zero stars I would especially for customer services. We came here after a wedding for a night cap and were told that they were closed at 10:45 even though the website and sign said open until midnight. There was 15 people ready to pay for at least one round of drinks and we were turned down for no reason. It's bad when existing customers you don't know walk up to you to say they've been told to leave as well for no reason on a Friday night. Totally kewl they are doing wine and beer tastings now just go in and talk to them they'll put you on their list and let you know when the next one is coming up....... soon I hope. The one that they had last week they were pushing some new wine arrivals and a sparkling wine from Brazil of all places and to my surprise not bad at all. They also had some little hors d'oeuvres to help cleanse the palate and allow you to see what goes best with different kinds of food. We were treated like honored guests but it was also 5pm on a sunday so the bar was not exactly crowded. We'll see about that fifth star after I experience the place in action on a Friday. Sandwiches blew me away for bar standards. Not quite up to par with a proper NY deli but easily top notch for this area. Beers are diverse and all great; clearly they are picking choosing carefully and thoughtfully. Had to make tough calls and would have liked to try more! Overall prices seem a bit high but not as bad as Gillys and this place has a lot more to offer. I was greatly impressed with the quality and I sure ain't seen a better line up anywhere in MoCo or PgCo. In fact I liked my options here better than my last few big hunt visits. Food and drinks were okay, and this spot really needs a nice place. This is not a nice place. We got the wrong bill, but since another member of our group paid his tab and left earlier, we had assumed he had some of our apps on it. Not only did we get the smaller bill of another table, but we received increasingly nasty phone calls from the owner DEMANDING that we return and pay more because we had cheated him on purpose. We figured out we had received another person's check when I went back to find out what really happened, but he never apologized. Quench is a small bar attached to a liquor store. The night I stopped by they had some live music which wasn't bad. It's about 10 minutes away from my house so I was looking forward to finding a decent bar close by. They have three large tv's that were each playing a different NCAA game. They have a decent food menu and a good number of beers on draft. The good: I ordered the bread pudding and a nitro stout. The bread pudding came with 3 small scoops of vanilla ice cream. It has a good size to it and was pretty good, even better with the stout. The service during this first half of my experience was fine. The bad: After my dessert first approach I figured a good pilsner would be a great beer to follow up my dessert which was pretty rich. I ordered a Gunpowder Falls pilsner which came out slightly cloudy (which is fine) BUT also smelled and tasted like vinegar. I asked my server to double check that she poured the right beer and check if the beer was supposed to taste sour (pilsners aren't). She came back told me the beer was fine. After this point she kind of stayed away from the table and avoided the table. SMH. The simple fix is to offer to pour another beer but instead she chose to avoid the table. I'm not blaming her for a bad keg or dirty lines but she could've found a solution. Of course she charged me for the sour, infected beer that I didn't drink. The pints aren't cheap either at about $8 a pop. Needless to say after bringing my $15 bill up 50% to $24 I couldn't bring myself to tip any more of my hard earned cash. Overall: It's not a bad neighborhood bar and I've heard the cheese steaks are also really good. I did enjoy my bread pudding/nitro stout combo. The beer is pricey though. Also if the waitresses are serving sour/bad beer and can't offering anything else but charging me for beer that isn't good and that I don't drink. Quench is a great beer and wine store with a fantastic deli. The owners are always very friendly, and helpful if you ask for a recommendation. The wife, LaLa, makes an especially awesome sandwich. The other reviews are right-- the place is always spotless. And the beer selection is great too. There was one time where I went to order a sandwich and couldn't get one, cause the sandwich guy was on break. But the foods so amazing and the staff is so friendly, I'll give it 5 stars anyhow. Stopped in to get a sandwich because I was in this area, was starving, and the reviews looked good. It was one of the worst so-called sandwiches I've ever had. It was supposed to be a veggie wrap. It was composed of their yogurt sauce, a leaf of lettuce (I do mean one leaf), a super thin smear of humus, and a couple chunks of tomato. Excellent Beer & Wine selection. They have a nice variety of macro and micro brews and you can tell that the staff are passionate about their products. Every time I have been there they have been friendly and have made excellent recommendations for new things to try. As another reviewer mentioned, definitely sign up for the mailing list so you can be notified of tastings and events. From the outside, you'd never expect such a gem in the middle of a random suburban strip mall. Store front is really nondescript, and even run down and cheap looking. BUT! when you walk inside, it's completely different. This place is unique in its ample beer and wine selection and attention to quality labels and hard to find brews. They hold regular free beer & wine tastings from various vineyards and distribution companies where you can sample with no high pressure to buy. Upper Crust Bakery (which used to have a store across the street but is now closed) makes an appearance here every Friday for those who were fans of their great artisan breads. It's an ingenious partnership. The deli in the back of the store has a small menu of made-to-order sandwiches that is good but nothing extraordinary. The tap room has a similar but not identical bar menu. Their new tap room/bar area is surprisingly spacious and sleek looking, with several TVs with anything from soccer games, football games, or news. Great and extensive craft beer tap selection, as well as a wide selection of nice bottled beer you wouldn't find in most other suburban bars. Choices rotate regularly so there's always something new to try. They've started to hold karaoke nights and bring in live music. It's no fancy pants DC lounge bar, but it's most likely you're not looking for something like that in Colesville. Simple bar for locals with great beer and wine. Can't ask for more. The owner Lala is really knowledgeable about the stock she carries and is clearly a wine and beer connoisseur, not just a business owner. She will take the time to talk you through the different types of wine, give you suggestions, and really try to get to know her customers. By by my 2nd or 3rd trip, she already recognized my face and name. I was quite impressed at how much she cares about her customers. read more

I know. If you had a nickel for every time you read a Yelp review about an unexpected gem in a random suburban strip mall, you'd probably have like a THOUSAND nickels. But really, this is a crazy ghetto strip mall with like NOTHING. You should have no reason to come here, and you really should NOT come here... if it weren't for Quench. This place is amazing. Unlike the exterior, it is CLEAN. They have a great selection of beers. I'm not a beer expert, but I did see at least three kinds of Allagash, Fin du Monde, Delirium...not every beer imaginable, but definitely better than average. And then there are the wines. They had a $33 Chateauneuf-du-Pape, $23 Sancerre - appellations that you'd have to pay at least $40+ at an unnamed Bethesda wine shop I visited. They were also having tastings while we were there on Monday night - about 8 different wines ranging from white, rose, red and sparkling. It was informative, casual, and they even provided some crackers and cheese to munch on. Overall, great selection, great price, great atmosphere and great people. Considering all of the factors (especially the price), this is probably the best wine shop in the area. read more

The Tap Room is totally meh. But in the middle of the suburbs with very few local options for bars, especially bars with a large and varied selection of beers like Quench! this is a place worth noting. Sitting in a non-descript strip mall parking lot next to a McDonalds, 7-11, and a martial arts school - a small sign states Beer, Wine, and Deli. Pull in, park your car, and look for a led sign. The Tap Room is connected to the beer and wine shop; the bar is well...it's a convenience store with a bar in it. You see the same 'office' friendly, noise insulation ceiling tiles and energy efficient over the head fluorescents (which are kept off to provide mood lighting). The bar has tons of beers on draft. The bartenders are nice, quick and friendly. The scene is local. The TVs play sports and the beers are cheap. Get the flights at around $3/per sample to have a selection. They also sell growlers. It's all beer here no liquor and never will be unless they become a liquor store as Montgomery County prohibits beer/wines from selling liquor (different licenses). Quench! is not a high-end bar but a good local place to grab a craft beer for reasonable prices. Glad its around in MoCo - go support it! read more

Great place to fill a growler. The food, though, seems a bit of an afterthought at times. Although the corn dip is pretty tasty and the baked Brie is good (can you ever go wrong with warm melted Brie?), the samosas are yucky (but the tamarind sauce is delicious), the bread served with the dip and Brie is blah, and my husband wasn't particularly happy with his Rachel sandwich. Re: service--ranges from fairly good to very good. There was unexpectedly (at least to us) live music one night we went, which was a pleasant surprise. Been here a few times and really love it! NEVER overly crowded and def. a neighborhood place that MAY? take off. I've had the chili and the meatball flat breads. Specials on the chalkboard always entice. The bar itself is REALLY modern and the bartenders are cute and friendly. The beer selection is enormous and reasonably priced for what you get. Beer selection is FANTASTIC. Prices aren't cheap, but you're also paying for something you really can't get elsewhere. The ambiance is very modern and chic, which is such a juxtaposition from the surrounding area. My husband and I were quite hungry when we first went and ordered several food items, all of which were unfortunately pretty disappointing (especially given the price). The shepherds pie was watery with too much pepper, the spaghetti (while delicious) was unexpectedly spicy), and the chili was not flavorful.. HOWEVER, I would compliment the pita and dip appetizer as a good option. So, basically, stick with drinks and apps at this place and do a full dinner elsewhere before or after. Service is friendly and very helpful, they were able to split a very lengthy bill - which is always appreciated when it doesn't make sense to split evenly amongst guests. read more

This place really aggravates me. On one hand, they have a decent beer selection in their store, and some good things to try in their tap room which is adjacent to the beer and wine shop. The staff is reasonably friendly and have always been pleasant towards me. I haven't eaten here, so I can't comment on the food. The part that drives me crazy are the beer prices. On the shop side, prices are consistently a few dollars more than what you would expect to pay elsewhere, including a beer & wine located directly across the street. I know it can be expensive to sell beer and wine in montgomery county, but why pay $13+ for a six pack you can get for $10 just about anywhere else? Which brings us to the tap room... Holy cow the tap room prices are high. Just about any beer on tap is approaching $10, more than I would expect to pay at a bar in Manhattan even. They offer "sampler" sizes which look to be just a few ounces and still run in the neighborhood of $5. I assume they offer the small sizes to make sure customers stick to the full-size beverages, because it's definitely not worth getting the sample size. I've been to bars that offer sample sizes for free that are almost as large as these. Anyway, this place has the right idea and I would love to visit more frequently when I'm in the area, but I just can't justify paying $25 and up just to have around two beers. If they bring things more in line with what are more realistic prices I'd gladly add more stars to my review. read more

I went here with a friend during happy hour on a Thursday. It was $2 off of beers and 10% off of wine and speciality drinks. Not the best deal but it was cool. I ordered the cheese and pretzels on happy hour and a drink. Both were good and then I ordered steak and cheese for my meal. That was good also however the steak could have been cooked a little longer for me. Overall it was cool vibe and decent spot to check out. I would return again! read more

Cool spot to end the night. We were looking for a spot to grab a drink after dinner and checked Yelp and Quench was the closest. We had a couple of glasses of wine. The pours were generous, no complaints. My friend's wine was rancid and the bartender had no problem opening a new bottle. Our only problem with this place was we had last call at 11:30 and about 20 minutes later we were told to get out by I'm assuming the manager/owner. Last night we went to Quench for a drink & we ended up eating dinner. We shared baked fries, which were so crispy & delicious. Then, we both had the felafel wrap. I had told myself that I am only eating half. Well, threw that out the window & devoured the whole thing. I wish I could say it was because I missed lunch, but I ate it, because it was fabulous. Additionally, the service was great; the owner & the waitress brought our food. That was such a nice touch. I love this gem in a little bit of a run down strip mall. It is also a beer, wine, and liquor store with quality products & knowledgeable staff. They now also have a big red & white tent for outdoor dining. I KNOW we will be back, because we often go there to get wine & Prosecco for dinner parties & celebrations. Go to Quench & buy wine, liquor & eat lunch or dinner in their space. You won't regret it. I went in here twice over two days and tried the steak and cheese and Italian sub. I will say that this is a clean and well kept store. It seems to be very new. The sandwiches are forgettable. The steak and cheese was decent enough but there was hardly any meat on it. I am somewhat of a steak and cheese freak and will drive up to Philadelphia every now and again for a good steak and cheese. The italian was horrible in my opinion. Barely any meat. Probably the cleanest Beer-Wine-Deli I've been to in a long time. They've been open for almost a month now. I've gone in the mornings for a cup of coffee. They have the small Irish Cremes which I like. I've had their gyro, from the deli in the back and it was very tasty. I haven't had any of their subs yet. Their beer selection is awesome. The entire right wall is lined with refridgerators so you can get mostly any beer cold. read more
