I go here often for dinner to take home .The restaurant is always clean. And the customer service has been great every time I come here and it doesn't take long to get your food . The food is always fresh and good. The portions are enough for two meals. I recommend this restaurant if you want a fresh cook to order meal.

The fried rice horrible and they try to skip on the standard items/sides that come with the order.

What is it about astronaut-types who love sushi? This can't be a generalization because Osaka is a…read moreNASA haunt. I'm pretty sure this sushi cafe's bread and butter is due in part to the fact they are literally across the street from NASA and know how to serve delicious sushi with decades of veteran expertise. Osaka Japanese Restaurant offers tasty and reliable dishes. And has for many years. It does not have a fusion menu or flashy decor. It does has traditional Japanese fare that you will enjoy and likely come back for. The sushi bar, itself, is small. I've sat at it a few times, over the years, and found it a friendly place to dine alone. The service in the large dining area is usually austere and efficient. I've only ever seen one waiter the entire restaurant at night and he does it well. When we dined here, recently, I was in a Japanese comfort food mood. So, this review is devoid of any raw sushi reflections. There are many, many options outside of sushi to choose from at Osaka. I was relieved to know that our dishes came with miso soup and a ginger dressing salad, as should be normal at full-service Japanese restaurants. The dressing was so good that I sipped most all it after the salad was gone. I lost all of my dignity and sipped it like soup. I ordered a Bento Box. The Bento Boxes are impressive, here, because of their variety and portion size. We enjoyed Bento Box "B," with salmon teriyaki, 6 California rolls, shrimp and vegetable tempura, gyoza dumplings and white rice. I wouldn't dare ask for a California roll substitution because I'm guessing everyone else does and classically Bento Boxes are not 'make your own'. But I abhor the painted-red faux crabmeat in California rolls which one finds at many restaurants and markets. Not these rolls, at Osaka, however! I actually more-than-liked their California rolls and Ican honestly say I do not usually eat them without removing the meat. Not here. This is really saying a lot about their food quality, here. I didn't ask but I think they actually use real crab meat instead of the pollock or otherwise fish blend that 95% of places use in California rolls. When you're in Maryland eating California rolls, faux crab meat is heresy. The salmon teriyaki in the Bento Box B was a tastey surprise! It was super-fresh, perfectly seared and not overcooked. The shrimp tempura were average/fine. The vegetable tempura was even better: asparagus, eggplant and a yam. I think the fried coating could have been lighter and airier but it was not too thick. The gyoza dumplings were a definite stand-out: were these homemade? They must have been because they were expertly seasoned, delightfully herby and aromatic. Must get more! Entree #2 was pork katsu called Ton Katsu. The pork was good but I much prefer their chicken katsu. The person I was sharing these dishes with preferred pork. It was good and well-seasoned. The ton katsu sauce was complex and the umami was definitely there. It was thick, smoky and dark. Not at all sweet. We also requested the sweeter teriyaki sauce on the side and I ended up using equal parts of each. The second standout at Osaka was the cabbage side dish which came with the pork ton katsu entree. This was a lovely and unique presentation of thinly-sliced cabbage along with other flavors. I don't know if they also offer this as an appetizer but I really liked it. I also added some ginger dressing to it and tasted even better. All in all Osaka Japanese Restaurant in Lanham is maybe overlooked and should never be because their sushi and entrees are at least reliably classic and good, if not delicious and - at times - even surprising.

It was really popular that evening, so the three of got squished at the table meant for two, but we didn't mind. The menu is pretty extensive, offering ramen, udon, tonkatsu, rice bowls, grilled fish sets, and more. We ordered pretty quickly, but with how busy it was, it took a bit for the food to come out CHILEAN SEA BASS - 37 As I scanned through, my eyes immediately fell on the miso sea bass. Despite the price point, I knew I had to go for it because sea bass is hard to find around here. This set came with rice, house salad, miso soup, and cold tofu. The sides were pretty standard -- no compliments, but no complaints either. On the other hand, the sea bass was wonderful. Super creamy and soft, with a strong miso sweetness that packed so much umami upon each bite. I would definitely splurge on this set just for the sea bass. My friend got the ramen and didn't love it, so I'll probably avoid that during future visits. The katsu curry that the table next to us ordered looked and smelled amazing. Overall, food was delicious and homey. I'd definitely recommend!

Absolutely floored by the fatty tuna sushi roll. It is on the pricier side, but honestly, I don't think I even minded. We got the katsu and sashimi combo plus some rolls on the side. The katsu was delicious, and the sashimi was super fresh. The combo also came with the cutest little side dishes, really adorable presentation overall. The staff was also incredibly attentive about my friend's allergies (dairy and nuts). They kept checking in with us and even showed us the sauce ingredients to make sure everything was safe. One of the staff members called my friend "kawaii" after hearing her long list of allergies lol, and honestly, that made my day.

My Hotote crudo app which should be served cold was served cold on a super hot plate which means by the time I ate it, it was thus weird hot/semi-luke warm temp and honestly, not appetizing. I tried the Moriawase after and told my server I wanted to add caviar if it was possible and since I didn't get any, I assume it is only an option for the nigiri/sashimi. Silly but no problem. I was still sooooo hungry I ordered a Surf&turf roll and it was less than appetizing. It had no flavor which was terribly unfortunate. I didn't make a review about the sake mixup or my server only to be polite but there are definitely low points, and those make the list. I hope it's better for everyone else!

We opted for the sake pairing, which complemented the courses beautifully. Standout dishes for us were the sashimi and the wagyu beef, both incredibly fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. That said, every course was truly delicious. Nasime is a wonderful spot for a thoughtful, peaceful dinner and an especially great choice for a date night. Reservations are required through Resy, and I definitely recommend coming hungry--you'll want to enjoy every course.

Perhaps it was being a patron during the winter when freshness is limited. Each dish we ate I rank below: 1) poached egg w/ blue crab dashi ankake (5/10) - the egg was cold and cooled the soup once the yolk was pierced which took away from the experience for me. The crab was good and it was supplemented by this corn-like kernel that was bitter and complemented the soup well. 2) seared wagyu with truffle shoyu (8/10) - seems to be a staple. Delicious. Wish there was more truffle since some pieces weren't as covered. Slightly cold but didn't take away from the experience. 3) otsukuri (sashimi) (8.5/10) - wish this was the majority of the meal. This was the part enjoyed most. A wide variety of fish. I would've enjoyed this more if it was not all served at once. 4) spanish octopus agedashi (8/10) - very delicious though the octopus pieces were very big and some too fatty. ' 5) prime fillet mignon w/ haccho miso graze (9/10) - amazing!! our favourite dish. served on a bed of eggplant and mozz cheese. The steak was perfectly cooked. 6) maple leaf duck noodle soup (3/10) - did not enjoy this dish. The broth was not savoury and the duck was far too gamey and fatty. Fortunately, we were stuffed so didn't eat this one. 7) housemade strawberry japanese fro yo (8/10) - refreshing and delicious Cocktails - 7/10 - very limited menu. We had one of the signature cocktails and a whisky. They were both light but lacked complexity. Most of the flavour was given way by the yuzu. Atmosphere - this is where the restaurant shines and I'd recommend going for a special date. It's a very intimate setting. About 10 people can be seated every time, and I believe there are two seatings each evening (6pm and 8:30pm). You are not rushed. We had the 8:30pm seating and lingered for almost 3 hours. It was an excellent environment conducive to conversation. We sat at the bar and saw the one-man show, the chef, prepare all the food. He had a haughty energy, very focused, and unsmiling. He gave the aura of a trained culinary genius. This was nicely contrasted with the one server, a charming and smiling individual. The place is not fancy - I do think it could've been nicer - but I believe it is the most authentic Japanese restaurant you'll find in all the DMV. I would highly recommend to everyone interested in fine Japanese cuisine.
