The fried rice horrible and they try to skip on the standard items/sides that come with the order.

Love, Makoto is a large Japanese…read moreculinary hall near Georgetown University Law Center with several concepts under one roof, including Dear Sushi, Beloved BBQ, Hiya Izakaya, and the more casual Love on the Run. Street parking was surprisingly easy, but I highly recommend making a reservation because Beloved BBQ became completely packed by 7 p.m. Beloved BBQ is a Michelin Guide recognized Japanese steakhouse, and the atmosphere feels elevated and luxurious while still being relaxed and welcoming. Our server, Lydia, was wonderful. She gave us excellent recommendations, checked on us despite being incredibly busy, and even brought out additional dry ice so I could capture the perfect photo. Abu was also incredibly kind and attentive, and General Manager Lenny personally stopped by our table to ask about our experience. The entire staff made us feel so welcome. The Wagyu Tower was absolutely incredible, with the short rib being our favorite. We also loved the dragon roll, tuna crisp, and salmon. If you order only one appetizer, make it the oysters with chili koji. They were out of this world, and I could have easily eaten two trays! For drinks, we tried the Sakura Sour, lychee martini, and the zero proof Pomelo. The Sakura Sour was beautifully balanced, while the lychee martini was smooth and delicious. For dessert, we shared the Heartbreaker and Peach Moon and finished every bite. This is a wonderful choice for an elevated date night, girls' night, celebration, or special dinner in D.C. The food, service, atmosphere, and presentation were all excellent. I will definitely be back soon!

My favorites were the eggplant skewers and the spicy tuna bites. Both were flavorful and definitely worth ordering. The drinks were probably the best part of happy hour. They were strong, tasty, and only $8, which felt like a great deal. I'm not sure I would feel the same way about the drinks at full price, but for happy hour, I can't complain. Our server was attentive, answered all of our questions, and our food came out pretty quickly. Hiya is also a cute little space, although it's one of several restaurants within the Love, Makoto complex. The restaurant itself has a pretty floral theme, but the open layout and surrounding restaurants give it more of a mall food court feel. It doesn't necessarily make for a bad experience, but it does take away a little from the intimate atmosphere. Overall, I'd definitely come back for happy hour.

STAY AWAY. Absolutely horrible service!!!…read more Our server, Nye, was incredibly rude & the whole AYCE experience felt like a complete rip-off. He repeatedly gave our orders to other tables & when we complained and tried to order more food, he told us we COULDN'T order anything else until our missing orders arrived. Except THEY NEVER CAME!!! After waiting 20+ minutes, we complained again and Nye gave us such a rude and condescending tone and response: "We have other customers too ya know." Seriously?! WE'RE CUSTOMERS TOO, ya douche bag. It got so ridiculous that 38 MINUTES into our meal, our table of FOUR had received a grand total of TWO plates of meat - even those were the plates we had to take from the neighboring table because our food kept getting sent elsewhere. And here's the kicker: AYCE is only 90 MINUTES. More than 1/3 of our allotted dining time was basically wasted waiting for food that never came, while our server wouldn't even let us order more. We only FINALLY started receiving our meat after we complained to the Vietnamese manager. He immediately stepped in, got things moving & extended our dining time to make up for the ridiculous delay. Shout out to him!!! But having to escalate to a manager just to receive the food we were PAYING FOR is absurd. And maybe Nye felt like he didn't have to bother because the gratuity was already automatic due to our party size. That would certainly explain the complete lack of effort. When your tip is guaranteed regardless of how badly you treat the table, I guess actually serving your customers becomes optional? STAY AWAY or at the very least, pray you don't get Nye as your server.
