Looking for a vegan restaurant that will not only delight the vegans in your life, but also the folks who eat meat? Then look no further than Rüt. Solo diners can't make a reservation online as the minimum is two or more diners. However, there is a small bar - it only seats four - so if you do happen to find yourself solo dining, show up early because this place gets busy and there isn't much bar seating. Cocktails are reasonably priced at $14 and the Luna's Lemon Drop that I ordered smelled like a spa - think eucalyptus - and was well balanced and tasty. For dinner I ordered the Brussel sprouts. They were really good. Crispy on the outside. The not so chicken sandwich was spicier than I expected. I felt my lips tingling after consuming half the sandwich. I honestly wouldn't have known it wasn't chicken if I wasn't at a vegan restaurant. I also upgraded to the dirty fries. The kitchen was fast, so courses were coming out quicker than expected and I felt a little rushed. I didn't have enough time to eat the dish in front of me without letting the next one get cold. The server acknowledged this and apologized saying they don't normally have this issue and that their timing is typically better. It was restaurant week during my visit, so perhaps being ahead is better than being behind. Also, the bartender was running the drinks to tables, which made it a little bit more difficult to get the same level of attention from the bartender. We were in Spokane for a cold, snowy weekend and I did a quick search for vegan restaurants in the area because I always love to scout out the vegan fare when I'm in a new city. We came across Rut and looked over the menu to find many tasty-sounding options. I decided to go with a dish that featured orecchiette pasta and vegetables in a broth, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say that it was one of the most incredible meals I have ever had! The dish was seasoned perfectly, featured a delicious selection of fresh vegetables, and the warm broth was nothing short of perfection on such a cold day. Here's where the problem comes in...I live almost 5 hours from Spokane! Now that I have experienced the exquisiteness of Rut, I must return, but it's such a long drive! Absolutely appalling experience from start to finish. Poor service, rude staff, and shockingly horrible food. The waiter Josh was unbearable--clueless, and incapable of answering even the most basic questions. He rambled and lectured nonstop for no reason(we tried to ignore him) and made my wife very uncomfortable.His obnoxious behavior alone was enough to ruin the meal, and we ultimately walked out mid-meal because of him .The food was just as bad. The burger was bland, tasteless, and easily one of the worst burgers we've ever had. The cauliflower wings were downright pathetic-made me feel sick later on .We took the food to go only to throw it straight into the trash where it belonged. I've always wanted to try a vegan restaurant and was so happy this was my first! Parking is easy to find and we were welcomed as soon as we entered the door. Small but beautiful and clean interior. There were about 10 tables or so and we were allowed to choose whichever one. Even though it was already 1 PM, there was already 3-4 tables filled. I chose the melted eggplant sandwich ($16) - it was so delicious! It had a little bit of everything and the flavors really worked well together. Not too overpowering with spice and the eggplant was cooked perfectly. Since it was my first time having vegan cheese as well, I am impressed by how similar it is to real cheese (texture, flavor, color). Would recommend eating quickly or else the bread will get soggy from the heat of the sandwich. Fries were 5/10. Good flavor, but I'd prefer a thicker cut with a more unique sauce. They were basically shoestring fries with ketchup, though well-salted. Also beautiful presentation on the black dish - I love it when the food to plate ratio is almost 1 to 1. The price was on the higher side, but I was surprisingly full afterward. I also tried ginger cauliflower wings. Very good! The batter is thick and crunchy. It's definitely more cauliflower than chicken-like (which is what I assume it is supposed to mimic). But cauliflower was also cooked well - not too over or underdone. Strong ginger flavor, which I like. You can buy it half/half with the buffalo cauliflower wings for an extra $1. I personally would not buy an appetizer for $15 (total of 10-11 pieces), but I understand that more probably went into it can it presents. 4.5/5 (-0.5 for price) - would recommend to anyone wanting to try a vegan restaurant! Hello person reading my review! I am obsessed with Rüt! I have tried the White Bean Queso Dip and I loved it so much I wish I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. The in house made sodas are phenomenal I tried both the Ginger and Hibiscus. The truffle fries are literally the best truffle fries I've ever had and I'd consider myself a fry Somali. There is probably nothing on the menu that would be disappointing. I had the Jalapeño Mushroom Burger and the Thai Ginger Cauliflower Wings. All vegan!!! We went early for lunch and the place was almost empty, only one other couple in there at the bar. Service was quick and pleasant. Since it was too early for adult bevvies we just got iced tea, which was tasty and served in nice glasses. We ordered the jackfruit tacos and the Mac n cheese and shared both. Mac n cheese is normally served with broccolini but we asked them for no broccolini which they said was no problem. When it came out, they had placed the broccolini on a little small plate in case we wanted it anyway I guess (seems like a waste since we said we didn't want it.) Mac n cheese had little orange coconut flakes in it that were supposed to be like fake bacon but they didn't seem to have that flavor at all. As vegans for many years we've had lots of fake bacon and this did not taste anything like bacon or fake bacon. The Mac n cheese was weak as vegan macs go. We were both disappointed as this is a high end vegan place and for the price point we were expecting to be impressed. (My partner makes a fantastic Mac based on a vegnews recipe.) The slight truffle flavor was nice. I think it was also sitting out waiting to be brought out to our table for a bit long so wasn't very hot. Jackfruit tacos were the star of our lunch. Perfect in every way. We think they perhaps fried the tortilla just lightly which made them just slightly crisp and held up well on the plate and while eating. Fabulous flavors with cilantro, sprouts, radish, pepitas, and some type of fruit we thought maybe was mandarin. Absolutely fabulous and my partner and I savored every last bite. We saw the server who took care of us also tended the bar, making and serving cocktails to the couple seated there, and they also took care of the take out orders, of which there were several during our short time here. The restaurant is located in a parking lot attached to a grocery store. Not much ambiance here, so I can see just getting take out would be the preference. However, our server was great. If you check in here you'll get a 15% off dessert coupon. We skipped dessert. This place is pricey. If you have cocktails and dessert you'll probably spend at least $100 with tip. We got out for less than $50 with only the 2 entrees and iced teas with tax and tip. read more

Not sure what happened. Ben going here for two years and love the Chicken Sandwich and the tomato soup. Have taken several non vegans and they all loved it. This time we finally took our sister. The chicken (tofu) sandwich was totally different. The breading was like a paddy out of the freezer section at Safeway. The tomato soup was way too smokey. I'm guessing chipotle. Rüt bar and kitchen- what a delicious new stop to my Spokane restaurant list. The inside is cozy and comfortable with large windows. It is positioned right next to Rosauers grocery store and offers fast service. It's a great lunch stop for the neighborhood and can easily be walked to from all the nearby parks. Since it is right next to the grocery store, you will never have to struggle to find a parking place. If you do have a larger group it would be helpful to call ahead and make sure that they have room or tables to push together. There's probably only room for 10 to 12 different parties inside. Even though it is small and cozy, it is definitely an intimate and private setting. The food is vegetarian and vegan, and the chefs have created a fantastic menu for you to choose from. They have both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drink options that are fantastic. Cool new vegetarian restaurant! We went on a Friday night and ended up waiting for about a half hour for our group of 4 to be seated. We were slightly annoyed by this, but we went at a busy time, so what can you expect? I felt like the restaurant did a great job getting us in as fast as they could (you don't realize how small the whole space is until you actually get inside!). I hope that the fact that there's no meat on the menu doesn't turn people off from visiting, because despite that, RÜT really has something for everyone. I was impressed by their drinks - lots of craft cocktails that look delicious, and I even got a ginger ale that was delicious. But the food - THE FOOD. The menu might seem small but there's still variety for everyone (low to high levels of spice/heat, different ethnic flavors, and small and large plates). The Impossible burgers and their toppings could fool anyone (and the buns were artisan and delicious). And a friend got the tacos and said that they were delicious!
