Seriously, the best Schezuan around. I think it beats Han Dynasty simply because it has so much more variety. It's as authentic as it can get, and the service is top notch. The owner always teases me for getting the same things (in a sweet, "grandpa" type of way), so whenever I get a recommendation, I do try it out. I've never had anything I did not like! My favorite go-to's are: *SPICY* Wontons in Chili oil Dan Dan noodles Poached pork (or fish) and cabbage in chili oil Twice Cooked Bacon (pork belly) with Spicy Sauce **NOT SPICY** Salt & Pepper Jumbo Shrimp (to die for!) Poached fish with garlic and scallions Tea-Smoked Duck Vegetable Delight (with extra tofu)... when I feel I need more veggies in my life There are definitely dishes for people who can't handle the heat, but Schezuan food is not for the faint of heart, so most of the menu is for the fire-breathers out there. Also, if you're looking for Americanized Chinese Food (Egg Foo Young, Moo Goo Gai Pan, etc...), this is not the restaurant you want. They have some of these dishes, but why would you get these here if this places specializes in AUTHENTIC Schezuan dishes?? Go somewhere else for that greasy, cheap Chinese food. After a long day of shopping with my friend, we just wanted to cap our day off with a little Chinese food. Since she is from Beijing, a friend of hers highly recommended Ping Pong. Well, why not, it's on our way home right? Our service started ok. We ordered three dishes: F06- Shredded pork w/ celery and dry tofu, E16-Sautéed chicken w. Spicy sauce and G07- Salt and Pepper jumbo shrimp. The chicken and the pork dish arrived and looked delicious. We were very much enjoying our meal and discussing the great deals we got from our shopping excursion. Then the salt & pepper shrimp showed up. We sat there and just stared at it for a minute as it was not what we were expecting. I even tried to give it a taste but it was so greasy that I didn't want to another bite. My friend called our waiter to the table and explained to him (in Chinese) that it wasn't what we expected and that it didn't look like salt & pepper shrimp. He explained to her that it's "American" style. Wtf does that mean? If I wanted American style shrimp, I would have gone to an American restaurant. Not to mention the dish looked like Sweet and Sour Shrimp (see pic posted) without the sauce. I told my friend not to get upset, we just won't eat it and have them remove it from the bill. Our waiter had someone else put our bill on the table as he knew we would ask for the item to be removed. He was so rude and nasty to my friend that finally I said to him,"As you can see from the untouched shrimp, not even the American liked the greasy overly breaded shrimp." He yelled that he didn't care and told my friend in Chinese that you are going to pay for your meal, I don't care if you didn't like it! Since when does a restaurant make you pay for food that is unsatisfactory?? My friend told him it's not about the money but about the poor service and the unwillingness of him trying to satisfy the customer. My friend asked to speak to a manager; he yelled, "I am the manager." She then requested to speak to the owner. His response, "I'm not disturbing the owner for this." Without arguing any further, as we didn't want to disrupt the other patrons, we paid our bill and left. I told him that this place is definitely going on blast for poor service and mistreatment of customers. The waiter/manager didn't care which is too bad because this place came highly recommended by someone who knows the owner. Needless to say, we will not be returning and our friend is going to report this to the owner. Thanks Ping Pong for ruining a perfect shopping trip dinner. It has been sometime since I had dinner here and my husband had been wanting to try this place since it is so close to home. So I agreed with some hesitation. When you walk in you are greeted by a total absence of atmosphere other than an open air cafeteria with 2 huge TV's up on the wall. I looked at my husband and asked if he was sure he wanted to stay? Only a few tables were full at the time, but we waited by the door until someone other than the person handling take out orders seated us. Our waiter took our order promptly. But our food came out sporadically. We received one soup and then five minutes later received the dumplings. The entrees came out the same way. We came with friends and had a house noodle dish, tofu, eggplant, etc. The food was nothing special at all and the service was touch and go. We had to ask to have our finished dishes removed. Perhaps we ordered the wrong type of selections, perhaps you need to know what to order? In any case there are too many other restaurants in the area for us to come back to Ping Pong. read more

This place used to be good but has gone downhill. The meat they use tastes strange and they don't cook non-spicy stuff well. If you order something spicy it won't be noticed because of the spicy flavor, but if you try to order something not spicy you will see the difference. One time I ordered Kung Pao chicken there were a couple of chunks like the size of chicken nuggets and therefore uncooked in the center. They did make us a new dish but it was not any better. I am not very acknowledgable about "authentic chinese cuisine" but I am an adventuous eater who goes to Chinatown , picks something that looks interesting and eat it.My family , not so much. I went to Ping Pong with my family on a Friday night with the thought of "Oh, there is a new Chinese restaurant in Gateway-let's check it out." It is important to note that my 5 year old's favorite food is Chinese dumplings and every Friday she stars campaingning for "Can we have Chinese and I can have dumplings??" Wow! What a great experience! The staff was very charming and indulgant of my 5 year old and happy to explain about the menu and that they can adjust heat for "American friends" I had dry-braised pork in hot pot which was sooooo good. It was too spicy for my husband but just perfect for me. Flavorful and endorphin rush inducing without being overwhleming. Spouse had tea infused duck which was tasy and enjoyed alot. And yes, the 5 year old got her dumplings which she ate all of with a huge grin. Oh, yes, and I took pictures of my hot pot with my phone and sent them to my heat seeking friends who live in the area urging them to try this place. There were the usual americanized chinese restaurant usual suspects on the menu so if you go with your grandma who would be disappointed if she couldn't get Gneeral Tso Chicken, she won't be left out. This gem is hidden in the Gateway Shopping Center by the Panera bread (which has a huge sign). As you get closer to the door, the pungent smell that is easily recognized as Chinese cuisine wafts through the air, beckoning you to enter. Since I had my own Chinese guide with me, we started off with the dan dan noodle which Joe assured me was a traditional Szechuan dish. When it came out I was surprised at how big the portion was considering that it was an appetizer. This had to be my favorite dish of the meal. The spicy ground pork meat over noodles was delicious! I had ordered this dish under the false pretense that this was gonna be a pork chop dish but what came out looked like slices of pork belly. whoops! that's the thing with Chinese menus, you never really know what you're gonna get with a generic description like "chicken in garlic sauce" or something like that. Well this was another perfect example. This may just be my personal aversion to pork belly but this dish was not very impressive to me. So I saw this dish on the menu on the glass windows (yea I'm pretty sure I freaked out the White couple sitting on the other side of the glass because I was pretty close to the window to read the tiny print of the menu. I saw "deep fried chicken w dry chili peppers" and I knew I had to eat here!) Once we were seated, the service was really quick to seat us and get our orders. when I asked about this dish (because it wasn't on the menu they gave us), they said they would bring out the dinner dish (and it only cost $11!!). I have never written a review on Yelp before, but after the meal I just had, I promised myself to spread the word. Went here on a whim with my father for dinner tonight. We live right by gateway, and used to get take out from Tokyo Fusion now and then. In the mood for a no-hassle meal, we decide to give Ping Pong a try. It was the most surprising and rewarding meal on a whim I can remember in recent years. This is no Tokyo Fusion Pt 2. This is real authentic Sichuan food- and damn is it delicious! We brought our own beer and were given a pot of hot tea that we drank the entirety of (and I'm mot usually a fan of chinese tea at restaurants). We ordered dan dan noodles and wontons in spicy sauce as appetizers. Both were spicy- but not overwhelming- and delicious. As we were ordering our entrees, Chef Zhang came out of the kitchen and called the waitress over. He had a new dish he wanted someone to try: some eggplant dish our (extremely friendly and accommodating) waitress assured us was good. It's not on the menu and it doesn't have a name- but we decided to order it with our dry braised lamb with spicy sauce in a hot pot. Let's just say during our dinner we were practically silent except for the groans of pleasure which inevitably escaped from our mouths. It was so good, I had to text my mother to apologize for having this meal without her. It's still a new place, and you can feel it as you sit down on a weeknight with only one or two other customers around, but word is going to get out soon and this place is going to blow up. Good food, quick service! Stopped by here yesterday for a colleague's farewell lunch, and it was a pretty pleasant experience. The lunch specials were reasonably priced (7-10 dollars), and included a soup, entrée, and rice (white or fried). I split the eggplant in garlic sauce and the sautéed green beans with a co-worker, and while the eggplant was decent, the green beans were absolutely fantastic. They did them perfectly, keeping them crispy and the garlic and other herbs complemented them quite well. The hot and sour soup was decent, but nothing too special. Food came out within minutes, and everyone enjoyed their dishes overall. The one slight issue was that they didn't believe us when one of our guys asked for his food to be super spicy, later saying that they knew he couldn't handle it. While yes, the food is very spicy, so be careful when asking for extra spice, let us make that determination, thank you. No need to make that choice for us, but in any case, it was a pretty decent experience overall! read more

Coming from Bay Area where there's a flood of good Chinese restaurants, I definitely consider this place one of the most authentic Szechuan food I've had. First of all, the service here is very satisfactory. My family had a great time dining each time we were here. The waiter/waitress here treated us really well. In addition, the chef came out and recommended some of his specialty dishes, which I thoroughly enjoyed. **Note: if you can handle real Szechuan spiciness, they'll give you the spiciness that you want. It's not the type of spiciness that's Americanized. In terms of the food, each time we were here, we ordered dishes that were recommended by the chef, and some were not on the menu. Overall, I would say any of the fish dishes are very good because I'm fan of seafood. In addition, I also liked the tendon dishes, but that's my personal preference. If you like Szechuan food and can handle the spiciness, I definitely recommend making a stop here. I've been to R & Z's twice and so far the results have been a mixed bag. Some of the szechuan dishes are really good. The Dan Dan noodles and the pork dumplings in spicy sauce are good. Other dishes are not very good at all. The fried rice here is not good, it tastes old. Some of the more Americanized dishes are not well executed at all. This is one of the best authentic Sichuan foods in the area. Their food is spicy and has that special Sichuan quality - that literal tongue-number quality. For people who are unfamiliar with Sichuan cuisine, yes, it's suppose to taste like that. In fact, authentic Sichuan food is every strong and usually leaves your tongue and mouth completely numbed. For those who wants real Sichuan food, I recommend the 辣子鸡丁and 水煮鱼 (sorry, I don't know the exact English terms, but it's crispy chicken cooked with dried, red peppers, and fish cooked with chili oil and napa cabbage). I work right down the road from the gateway shopping center, and must have passed by this place a million times. For some reason still unknown to me, I thought that this was a bad Americanized Chinese food joint, complete with backlit signs and a counter. Oh how wrong I was. A coworker and I decided to venture in for lunch, and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant itself is large, and more importantly, bustling during the lunch hour. I noticed a number of groups of expats eating lunch, as well - always a good sign. We both ordered off of the lunch special menu, and for only $6.95, enjoyed a superb meal. The hot and sour soup was phenomenal - easily the highlight of the meal. I've had hot and sour soups in the past that were thick, and sweet. This soup was not on the same level: it was piping hot, complexly flavored, and perfectly spicy. I would go back just for the soup. For my main dish, I ordered the rice noodles in a spicy pork sauce. The portion was plentiful, the food was fresh and hot, and I enjoyed all of the veggies and ginger that was a part of the dish. My coworker, a vegetarian, ordered the vegetarian delight. I don't always quote my mom, but when I do, it's always about Sichuan restaurants. This is her favorite Sichuan Chinese place in the Philly area - she's followed the chef around wherever he goes. The cold spicy chicken was very authentic, with a nice balance of spicy, mala, scallions, and peanuts. The twice cooked pork is perfectly cooked so that the pork's slightly crisp in texture. The chicken with fried peppers and mala fish filets with silken tofu were just ok though. The chicken wasn't as spicy as I'd hoped it'd be, and the mala fish and tofu didn't have the complex flavors you want in that dish. We ordered two vegetable dishes that weren't on the menu - the mountain yam was a nice palate cleanser for the spicy dishes, though the slightly slimy texture might be offputting to some. The Chinese lettuce stir fried with dried peppers was refreshing with just a light kick. Service is fast though you have to box up your own leftovers. read more

Wow! I really didn't expect it to be that good. It looks like a small eatery from the outside. We walked in on a Saturday evening and it was pretty busy, but we were lucky to get a table. We ordered vegetables with tofu, beef in black bean sauce and kung bao chicken. As a starter we had the chicken and corn soup. Everything was delicious and it was exactly what we needed for the night. Staff was very friendly and apologized for the wait on the soup (took 30 min). I was really looking forward to trying this place because of its high rating, and Yelp rarely disappoints me. But this was probably the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. I ordered a wonton soup; my friend and I both ordered the tofu with black mushrooms. My soup arrived almost instantly. As I tried to cut the dumplings in half with my spoon, they wouldn't budge -- they were one step removed from being hard as rocks. The tofu dishes came out not long afterwards. If the soup was bad, the tofu was abysmal. It was literally a giant bowl of cubed soft tofu with paltry amounts of diced mushrooms and a sprinkling of four measly bits of scallion. And to make it worse, it was swimming in whatever water it had been soaking it. No spices, no flavor -- awful. Neither of us could force more than a few chopstickfuls down, even after dumping some soy sauce on it just to give it some kind of flavor. Our waiter was also constantly absent, and we had to flag him down each time we needed something. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing/are not privy to the good stuff here. The chicken in my dish has no chicken in it. I had raw chicken before. I had overcooked chicken. I had undercooked chicken. But the chicken i was served at this restaurant tasted like a rubbery cartilage, but on the slimy side. So i just picked the broccoli and left most of the "chicken" meat. Chicken is the meat that's hard to screw up. But they screwed up the chicken. Was it recycled chicken? Fake synthetic meat? What the heck did they put in my plate. So I had lunch there with two colleagues the other day. Overall impression is its good, but not as good as Han's. Service is going to be frustrating for people that are used to one waiter taking care of them. In terms of the menu, the most authentic sichuan entrees are on the house special list. That was seperate from the big menu you are given when seated. In terms of the lunch specials, several of the more authentic dishes are included on the lunch special including double cooked pork, chicken with pickled pepper, and sauteed chicken with dry chili pepper. We did not order lunch specials but rather ordered off the main menu. We had: Dan Dan Noodles - good but greasy, noodles overcooked, and not as spicy as I would like. Wontons in spicy sauce.. hot but lacking any flavor from the wontons. Double Cooked Pork - very nice dish, with heat, and the pork was nicely cooked. Chef Special Sausage with leek - sausage had a nice flavor, leeks were a bit tough, overall flavor of the dish was salt. Dry Braised Frog with spicy sauce in Hot Pot- Hot pot was very good, nice mixture of vegetables and you got the sting of the sichuan peppercorns, but the frog was a pain to eat. I would have liked this dish more if we had ordered chicken or pork instead. Overall I liked the food. Bit expensive for lunch (20 dollars plus tip for 3 people.) I think the key is what you order. I didn't know this place replaced Tokyo Fusion until my friend mentioned to me how much she enjoyed the food there. So I gave them a visit with another friend a couple of weeks ago. I have never seen these many Chinese people in this area until I walked into the restaurant. That's one way to judge whether they are authentic, right? The place is pretty big and has plenty of seats. We got a few dishes to share: soup, a stir fried beef dish, frog dish (yes), and a fish dish with tofu. I really enjoyed the soup and fish dish. The other two are okay and very spicy. It didn't take me that long to get to the point where I couldn't tell what I was eating. But they do put in plenty of meat in those dishes. I don't know if it's because of the spiciness, but the food is quite addictive. I still have a crave for it whenever I think about the food weeks later. I definitely recommend anyone who wants some authentic Chinese food to check out this place and I am looking forward to going back there again. read more

The food was tasty, but the service seemed really, really inconsistent We walked in and were studiously ignored for about five minutes in a half-full restaurant. I stopped one of the servers to ask if we were supposed to seat ourselves and immediately an older guy who had been sitting at a table a few feet from the door sprang up and took over. Huh? Since there were only two of us and we were ordering soup, two entrees and rice, I asked if it might be possible to get a half order of string beans as well. This lead to bring told no, then a hurried conversation with the uninterested older guy who seated us, then a trip into the kitchen. The waiter returned and announced that they would add string beans to my entree. Not quite what I wanted, but they tried. So we waited a while and the soup came out. It was piping hot and we started slowly eating it. Less than five minutes later, the entrees (mine with the promised string beans) came out, so we pushed aside the half-finished soup and started eating the entrees. The waiter came over to ask what was wrong with the soup! We said that it was fine, but it had been hot and we weren't able to finish it before the entrees came out. This lead to a Seinfeld-worthy exchange where the waiter insisted that we didn't like the soup and kept trying to bring us another soup. No no, no - we're eating our entrees, we really do not want more soup. So we finish, the waiter brings over the check, we pay and leave a standard tip. As we get up to leave, the waiter rushes over with a brown paper bag and presses a quart of egg drop soup into my hands. It's the Soup Nazi in reverse! read more

The waiters aren't pleasant! They were rude to me and didn't understand/speak English well. I usually pay a standard tip amount based on if the total amount is in 20's or 30's etc. So I paid the tip according to my calculations (close to 15%). The guy came and grabbed the check from me and looked at the tip and said very rudely that the tip is less. He was so insulting. I paid extra 2 dollars (more than 15%, even when my chili sauce wasn't served until I was almost done with my food) as I was with my colleagues and didn't want to create a scene.I told him to be a little nicer next time. But he didn't even apologize. He kept the attitude with me even when I met his demands. I am never ever going to this restaurant again ! Looks like they deleted my earlier review. Did not expect good Sichuan food in Villanova at all since it seems like a white majority in the area. I was skeptical despite overwhelmingly positive reviews on yelp, thinking people in the area probably have low standards. The place is also called ping pong...like what...that just sounds like a place to rip off people who didn't know better lol. Turns out I was completely wrong, as this was one of the best Chinese foods I've had in the States so far. The restaurant gave complimentary tea and rice, and everything was both authentic and delicious. I recommend getting the spicy beef tendon and the dan dan noodles, as they were both some of the best I've ever had (including in China). Read/heard something about the chef being from Sichuan, which would make a lot of sense. Customer service could use some work (as mentioned below by multiple people), but it got the job done. Prices are fair; it's not dirt cheap, but not ridiculous either, and their portions are on the larger end as well. The shredded beef with green chiles is excellent and they have the best wontons. I had a cold tendon dish as well that I highly recommend. Get there well before the posted closing time if you want to eat in the dining room. They switch to takeout-only if it's a slow night. Ask for extra rice if you're not used to spicy foods. They don't give you a whole lot to share, which is fine for me. But if your a rice lover, you'll want more. I think the heat is just right- you can still taste the food but there's a nice subtle burn to accompany the flavors. This depends on what you order, though, and I have a feeling they'd accommodate if you want your dish extra spicy. Service is quick and accurate and the food is consistently good. read more

The no frills cafeteria style space is almost always very busy with a significant Asian customer mix which I always consider a solid endorsement of its authenticity. Ping Pong offers all the usual US favorites like sweet & sour, General Tsao's etc but I'd recommend you forget all that stuff and delve into their spicy hot pots, fried chicken with dry chili peppers, soups and other unique dishes. You won't see any of these items at other King Of Prussia Chinese restaurants who typically sell all the usual sweet, MSG loaded stuff. Service can occasionally be a bit hit and miss and you might occasionally have to aggresively seek your check but it's no big deal unless you're in a real hurry. Ping Pong is totally worth checking out if spicy Chinese is your thing. read more

This is our "go to" takeout for Chinese food. DanDan noodles are great. Nice and spicy. Garlic and Eggplant is a staple and very good. We mostly get chicken and pork dishes and love them. Their dumplings are good but very heavy with dough. Not my favorite. Try it. I think you'll enjoy it! read more

Came here for a second time with my sister and boyfriend. This time, we tried dan dan noodles (spicy with a taste I couldn't quite put my finger on -- maybe too much lemon juice-- whatever it was, it left an aftertaste I can't quite put my finger on), a claypot with rice (can't recall which claypot), and a large fish with ginger. A year ago I'd have given this "authentic" Chinese at least 4 stars, even with it's embarrassingly bad service. But of late it's lucky to get 3 stars. Our entrees were practically without flavor at our last visit. Also the menu has changed and some favorites are missing and now seems about picking which meat and which of eight styles of preparation.
