I was in Boise visiting my brother (go Broncos!), and my mom stops by R&R BBQ every time she comes up here. We went about an hour before closing, and I was very impressed with how quickly our food was ready. The person at the front was very nice and answered all our questions. I wasn't in the mood for BBQ, so I ordered their buffalo wings. I also tried their mac and cheese which I unfortunately felt it lacked flavor, it was very bland. The wings however were great. My sister had an order of their brisket nachos that tasted very good. When I come back I'll have to try their BBQ. My mom had brisket and a few other meats that looked very good. For true barbecue enthusiasts, I can't recommend this place. Brisket too dry to eat is a major red flag. Honestly, the pulled pork in both of our meals was pretty good. But the sauces on the table were just off. And the sides weren't great. My fried pickles were so salty I couldn't eat them (and I love me some salt!). And my hubby's garlic mashed potatoes had absolutely no garlic flavor. The gravy was ok though. And we ordered beers. By the time we were finished with our food we still didn't have beers. Apparently the draft lines were not working (which they only figured out after we placed our order) and they spent the entire time we were there trying to get them working. They did offer us their canned cocktails and canned beer, but we had already finished our food and just wanted to leave. My initial complaint was regarding the brisket they put on their baked potato and it should've been the chopped brisket not the extremely fatty pieces they put on. The owner contacted me to clarify what brisket and chopped brisket are which, OK sure, maybe I have no idea what the difference is because I was born yesterday. Except I wasn't and I've ordered that dish multiple times from them and the quality has suffered. The last two times I purchased from them it was terrible the first several times it was excellent. I had a pulled pork sandwich which tasty and juicy. The side of Mac n cheese was some of the best I ever had anywhere, and that's saying a lot cuz I love a good Mac n cheese. This place is very mediocre. The food isn't bad, but it isn't great. It does the job that you want it to do. The ribs are dry rub and were pretty decent. The brisket was tender. The turkey was just turkey. Didn't taste smoked at all. The hush puppies were very plain tasting. They needed something to add flavor to them. Butter, BBQ sauce. Something. The Mac and cheese was absolutely horrible. Had absolutely no seasons to it. It needed at a minimum salt and pepper. The cheese itself was dry and the cheese on top was just dry also. Not a good crunch. The spicy bbq sauce had a nice little kick to it. The sweet tea was actually really good. Would I eat here again? Maybe. The carolina bbq sauce is what drew me in and offended me the most. Never should they be SPICEY! The chicken *chunks* were pure fat and not good at all. The pork w salt added was fine, as was the brisket. The iced tea was the star of that nearly $30 dinner for ONE! sadly, the restaurant was completely empty at 6 pm, and now I see why. Smoked meats galore along with counter service and a hand washing station. They have a variety of sauces at each table. They have specials during the week. I like it all. What I like most is the Pineapple Pulled Pork sandwich. The last time I got that bit of tasty it was steaming hot. A dollop of coleslaw and some cheese complete the sandwich well. A little tiny bit of heat to them. My husband said the mashed potatoes were good as well The fried pickles were salty so I couldn't finish them even though part of me wanted to. There was a good flavor underneath but hard to taste with all the salt. Hush puppies were okay but I've definitely had better. I'd be curious to try their rolls to see if it's a better option. However, we got r&r as takeout and feel like the hush puppies would be better eaten right away. The deal also included dessert. We got peach cobblers which were pretty good but nothing outstanding . How can I start, Let's start with the Good, the Bad and the awful. I ordered the 3 meat plate, brisket, pulled pork and chicken, side of hush puppies and a sweet tea to go. The sweet tea was GOOD, let's move on to the bad, pulled pork was OK but for $25 I was hoping for better than OK. The Carolina sauce was not Carolina sauce, Carolina BBQ sauce is Vinger based and almost clear, this was thick and dark almost like store bought BBQ sauce, and the spice was over the top, totally missed the mark on the Carolina BBQ sauce. The brisket was DRY, DRY, DRY and over cooked, not sure how you over cook smoked brisket, they did it, no flavor hard to chew. I tossed the brisket, it just wasn't good. I would like to give a review of the chicken, but that didn't make it to my order, probably would have been just as disappointing as the rest of meal, maybe I should be thankful I wasn't subject to the chicken. Now the Awful, the hush puppies, so hard it took effort to break them in half. so dense you could have used them as weapons. so dry and over cooked and just tasted like jalapenos, why do people insist on adding peppers to hush puppies, good hush puppies stand on their own. First time here. I started with a 2 meat plate (the lady working the register encouraged it when I was originally going for a pulled pork sandwich and a side of brisket. The brisket was a little dry for my liking, and the pulled pork was soft and tender but slightly cold. I was given cold rolls (seems as if it was just pulled out of the wall out fridge). The fried pickles were tasty, not sure if was pre-made or made at the place. However, the hush puppies stole the show. I enjoyed every bite. Going to give this place 3/5 stars because of the nice staff, cleanliness, and delicious hush puppies. I hope they can develop a better Carolina mustard bbq sauce as theirs is a big too vinegary for my liking. Hope this helps. I'll be back though. I was pretty excited for this place but was mildly disappointed. They happed to be out of their "famous" or "award winning" ribs on a Saturday at 5:45 which I don't understand. We decided on the loaded potato with pulled pork, and a brisket plate with hush puppies and bbq baked beans. Everything was dry especially the hush puppies definitely could of also been hotter. Brisket had some smoky favor but not desirable texture, kinda spongy and dry definitely not worth a $2.50 up charge. Loaded Potato was good, pork was tender. The side or beans was the only thing that was finished by my partner, she said they where also good The reviews that have higher than 3 stars all seemed to not get the brisket so maybe that's not what you should be known for. Also was not offered a difference in what cut we wanted just only offered if we wanted it sliced or chopped up. The atmosphere was not good at all. There was no music and all 8 of the TVs where playing some weird business/finance advice talk show. Overhear other costumers that were sitting directly below a tv saying it was "depressing" what they where hearing. It would of been nice to watch the NFL playoff game that was going on at the time.
