Stopped in last night for all day happy hour and enjoyed everything we got. The style of the restaurant reminded me of Suerte in Austin where it's family style modern Mexican food. The tostadas is a must try when you come here. They bring out four different type of dips to eat with the tostada and offer more tostadas if you still have sauce left. My favorite was the Macha which reminded me of a chili oil but with sesame. The pork tacos were delicious with crispy pork pieces, a fresh tortilla, and all the mojo you could ever want!

This restaurant has upscale Mexican food that mixes great quality and top notch flavor. The inside is modern and has a welcoming ambiance. Service was great. Food comes out as it's ready, and the menu has a lot of small plate/shareable options. Drinks were also great, and they offer mezcal flights which is super unique! It was my birthday dinner, but we skipped dessert. Super sweet touch, they gave a gift card to use at our next visit!

What was left when we asked for the check: nothing delicious left behind!

Fifty stars! This restaurant delivers flavor, color, texture, and variety in each small plate: a heirloom tomato salad with Oacxan cheese and carrot slivers, crunchy chili-lime tortilla strips, witha cinnamon vinagrette; a polenta sope topped with finely diced vegetables and a chipotle sauce; a fish taco topped with delicate pickled fennel strips; nachos with sour cream, guacamole, and a splendid untraditional tomato salsa. If that sounds delightfully upscale, it was, but the small plates were filling and the bill was more than reasonable for the high-level cookery coming from the kitchen. Many Mexican restaurants serve the familiar -- which can be satisfying, but it's usually dense, sometimes greasy, reliant on rice, beans and salsa that might have come from a giant vat. Barrio Costero nicely balances the earthy and the delicate. Everything on the menu is gluten-free; the dishes are carefully marked. We had superb service -- enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable from Jake and then Nick. The place is casual but we went away feeling that we had (by accident) had a memorable meal. Don't miss this one!

This is a nice mid-scale, Mexican fusion place not far from the boardwalk and shore in Asbury Park. My friends and I went down for our last "beach day" of the summer on Labor Day. Establishment has a sleek industrial meets minimalist design. Although I do not have a photo of the bar, it is very eye-catching and plenty of pictures can be Googled... We had a reservation and when we arrived, the hostess proceeded to inform us of the happy hour which was currently happening. We all agreed to partake and were seated at a banquette in the bar area. Restaurant tends to be very dimly lit which I recall from my first visit as well. Not so easy to see the menu but serves a purpose for the ambiance. To be honest, the service absolutely sucked which is why I gave this review a 3 and not a 5 out of 5. I understand it was a holiday, however, I almost felt like our table was being ostracized. I saw several staff buzzing by our table with food and drinks for other patrons. We ordered our drinks and they seemed to have forgotten because after a 10 minute wait we inquired about their status and they were delivered 4 minutes later. We then ordered our food which was served tapas style. My friends ordered the chicken and pork tostadas, I ordered the mushroom tostadas and we all ordered the squash dish. My guests and I were all very satisfied with the food but once again we waited a very long time for service. They did not serve us all together. My friends received their food first and mine came a full 11 minutes afterwards. Not a great thing to write about but the absolute truth. My friends were almost done eating when my food finally arrived. Even though the service sucked, the food was tasty. The portions were quite small for the price. We all agreed that the Squash dish was the highlight of the meal. Well seasoned, flavorful and textured. I loved the bathroom. The walls were covered with Mexican artists and designs. It really was artistic and worth a picture but unfortunately I did not bring my phone inside. It was clean. I wish I could tell you to go here because the service was great but unfortunately I cannot. The food was worthy but dining out is a full experience for the senses and well being. Visit here and pack your patience beforehand....

Love this inventive, elevated and delicious Mexican-inspired restaurant! Have never had a bad dish here. On Tuesdays, they have an awesome Taco Tuesday deal (2 tacos of the day with a margarita for $15). They also have a great happy hour food and drink menu. Do yourself a favor and get the nachos - always get the nachos here! They are ridiculously amazing.

Perhaps one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food). What a charming little place! My wife and I sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen (I would highly recommend this!) and got recommendations from the sous chef all night long. Each thing was better than the last. You MUST try their version of nachos, as well as the Milanese with mole sauce. Out of this world! Save some room for dessert too, as the cream tequila was a dessert unto itself. An outstanding night in every way possible!

INCREDIBLE TACOS!!! Really great service too! We had watermelon margaritas and they were super fresh and delicious. Sat at the bar for happy hour and ordered every taco... every one was amazing. Absolute favorite was the mushroom, had to get another order of that. Will definitely be back! Thank you!

We came here on a rainy Friday night. Highly recommend a reservation if you're coming on a Friday or Saturday night as the restaurant was very busy. We ordered some margaritas and three dishes to share - their nachos, carne asada, and ceviche. As far as food goes, this was a great experience. Everything was fresh, exciting, and flavorful. The star of the show for me was the ceviche - a must order. Our server was friendly but new which resulted in some hiccups including a very long drink delay which caused us getting an extra drink that was added to our bill in error and us having to remind them about bringing out one of our dishes. The restaurant also recommends sharing their dishes but these would be normal size dishes anywhere else. Between our three plates, we finished most of the food and we normally have a good amount of leftovers when we go out. Although this was a good experience, I left leaving feeling that it could have been better based on their price point. Tighten the screws and this could be an excellent dining experience.

Always in search of a good deal, my husband found out that Barrio Costero has happy hour all night on Thursdays! The margs were good, and we leveled up by adding spicy salt! Unfortunately we didn't have the best dining experience mainly because our waitress wasn't super clear about the happy hour nacho portion (just an individual large chip/tostada loaded with topics); and she forgot to put in our taco order (after telling us our food was coming, she realized 20-30 min later that she hadn't actually put the taco order in with the kitchen). Once the tacos (chicken, pork, and fish of the day), they were flavorful but it was frustrating that we had to wait so long. 3.5 stars overall.

This has become one of our favorite spots in Asbury park. Great service, delicious food and we love their happy hour menu. They have the best twist on nachos I've ever had. I call them "Classy Nachos" because instead of this unwieldy stack of chips and stuff they give you single large crispy tortillas with just the right amount of nacho goodness on top.

Very limited menu, may need to Google what each item is.

After spending the day at the beach, my husband and myself wanted to try a new latin restaurant, as we usually frequent a nice Mexican place not too far from Barrio. But we wanted a change. Since Barrio received so many hi stars and reviews we decided to try it. Our HUGELY negative experience began before we were even seated. We walked inside and were barely greeted by a young man we assumed was the host. He asked if we had a reservation.....I replied no. ( I then looked around as it was 5:45pm on a Monday and the place was empty other than a few tables) He then says.....several time I might add "Technically......I am not supposed to seat anyone with out a reservation" I pointed out that the place was EMPTY. He simply repeated himself with the same line he previously stated. There was no apology, for instance a proper response would be 'Im so sorry, but we can't accommodate you at the moment, however, if you would like a table outside, I can put you there'. No he was rude and ignored my comment about being empty. Ultimately we accepted a table in the shade outside. I want to state that we own a Latin Restaurant in Bergen County NJ. That being said we are familiar with giving a positive customer experience. Ok next comment are regarding the service and food: We each ordered the Watermelon Margarita, ok not bad, nice presentation. At $14 each one we were not going for a 2nd since they lacked alchohol. I had a question on the menu (extremely limited and unusual menu) under the heading Las Otras. It was called Huarache. I asked the server for an explanation of the dish. He could not tell me and had to go ask the kitchen for a description. (shouldn't the server be familiar with the menu?) Upon returning from the kitchen he still had trouble describing the dish other than saying was was vegan. Ok....so not ordering that if I don't know what it is. We ordered the Guac and Chips, which was the only part of the meal we enjoyed. We ordered Chicken Tacos, Fish Tacos and Ceviche. Chicken Tacos: Actually were tasty even with the crazy amount of garnish consisting of pickled onion, fried onion and other garnished with drowned out the chicken. Fish Tacos: BUYER BEWARE! After 1 bite I couldn't stomach more. The smell of rancid fish and some pieces were even raw. ***At the end of the meal, the server didn't ask why we left 2+ tacos on the plate, he didn't even ask if we wanted it to go. (Of course we would not) Ceviche: OH MY GOD!!!! What a NASTY looking presentation and the taste was unpalatable. Slimy white and pink thinly sliced scallops covered with garnish. Please check photos below. Notice on an 8" plate, 75% of the plate is barren. I was so extremely disappointed with the entire experience from beginning to end. After being asked 3X by our server if we wanted anything else, and 3X being told no, he brings us a handheld unit and hands it to me saying "Here is your total" $111.47. ( I was like WHAT??) Then I asked where the detail of my check was. He said "Oh, let me go print it out". WTH? Don't you provide your customers with a detail so they know what they are paying for? Anyway, I couldn't pay and get out of there fast enough. Also on the bottom of the menu in small print, it says "You will notice a 3.5% service charge on your receipt. This is our way of showing some well-deserved love to ALL of our team members in the restaurant." I had also inquired from the server what this mean? Is it additional tip? I mean what the hell? He explained that servers in general get a low wage. So this was the managements way to use the collected Service fees to pay them a higher wage? OK correct me if I am wrong here, but don't they get tips like any other reputable restaurant? The hourly wage is the owners problem to compensate their servers, not the customer. In closing, this was by far the worst dining experience in years from the moment we walked in to the end paying the bill. NEVER AGAIN. And I warn all my friends and family to stay away. To the Customer Service review responder, please don't bother sending me the automated cold generic response asking for me to email you to resolve the issue. It can't be done unless an honest, serious look at your staff, food and management is done. You can't take offense to these comments, the purpose is to understand what your customers are feeling. With respect, a first time and lost customer

As a frequent Asbury Park visitor, I was surprised I've never been to Barrio Costero. This place is wonderful! A few streets over from Cookman, the vibes are great and a little more relaxing. I came with a friend and we sat outside, our waitress was quick and really sweet. The food was AMAZING. They accidentally gave us the pork tacos (I have never had pork) and I tried them- UNBELIEVABLE! Everything was fresh and beautifully served. We came on a Tuesday and they had a deal for two tacos and a marg for 17 or so. If you've never been I definitely recommend.

Barrio Costero provides an upscale Mexican food experience. The salmon ceviche is not traditional but it is definitely delicious! The drinks were yummy! I had a classic margarita and my husband had the mango. The service was top notch, they were very attentive and incredibly kind. The restaurant is beautiful inside. It's definitely upscale, you can definitely wear jeans but a button up or blouse is necessary. I cannot wait to go back this summer to enjoy their outdoor seating.

My mom loved her lavender French 75 (a drink special), and my white wine was perfect (the name escapes me at the moment). The garlic soup deserves awards. I first had it two summers ago and still think about it -- I made my mom try it and she immediately understood my rave reviews. For entrées, her burger was cooked perfectly medium-rare, and my fish & chips absolutely hit the spot. Both came with generous portions of house-made fries and an unexpectedly addictive house honey-mustard. We had enough fries for leftovers, and I even asked for extra mustard to take home. The restaurant was located in a multi-floor home on Wesley Lake, just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Cookman Avenue. The first floor was more of a bar and lounge, and they had a live jazz band on the evening we visited. We checked in with the hostess and were escorted up to the second floor dining room, which was a charming spot that was breezy and comfortable, yet refined. The floor also had its own bar. Our server was on top of things, but was also clearly newer to the place. Regardless, once we got settled, she took our drink orders, which had taken us some time to decide on since the menu was creative and vast. I went with A Sidecar Named Desire, which included Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, Chinola passionfruit liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. I adore passion fruit and had always liked sidecars as well, so I figured it was worth a try, and I loved it! It had a good balance of tart sweetness and smokiness. My friend similarly enjoyed her spicy margarita, and we both imbibed while picking on some bread and herb butter. For our meal, we decided to start by sharing the Greek Salad, which was a massive bowl of romaine topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, red onions, and Kalamata olives. We left off the feta cheese, but enjoyed the seasoned dressing made of red wine vinegar, honey, salt, oregano, and olive oil. It was a fresh and flavorful mix of vegetables that was a pleasure to eat. The entree options were endless and offered something for everyone. I wound up going with the Chilean Sea Bass, which was served over sweet onions and potatoes in a tomato herb reduction. The fish was tender and perfectly cooked. It was a light and tasty dish that seemed perfect for the Spring season. After our meals we were a bit too full for dessert, but we decided to get a second round of drinks, mainly because I was dying to try their Pistachio Espresso-Tini. Wow, was that drink delicious! It blended Ketel One Vodka, Mozart White Chocolate Liqueur, natural pistachio flavor, and fresh espresso. The coffee notes were not super prevalent, but the creaminess, nuttiness was the real highlight. It was a decadent way to end a delicious meal. After we settled the bill and headed downstairs, I noticed several bowls of after-dinner mints, which were a nice touch. From the relaxed atmosphere to the interesting and expansive menu, Moonstruck was a terrific option for our Asbury dinner experience.

We got the doggy chicken with the side of mashed potatoes and the pup cup for dessert. She dogged the chicken and mashed potatoes, but unfortunately wasn't too into the pup cup (which is a shame because it's so cute, but maybe she was full!) Now for the humans -- we ordered the sweet chili wings and a side of the sweet potato fries. The wings also come with a side of carrots and celery along with a choice of ranch or bleu cheese. I loved the sweet chili sauce and kept redipping into it. I wish the order came with more celery and carrots. The food and beers/cider came out rather quickly. The server came by every so often to check up on us and brought napkins without us having to ask! The dessert was amazing; the combination of the ice cream and the ooey gooey-ness of the cookie was the perfect end to our beach day. We barely left any whip cream. Since we went during LDW, the vibe inside was almost opposite what it was outside. But that may carry over during other times. Only downside of this visit was the wait time to be seated...and it was not because there weren't seats available. It was a bit strange standing around while the host wasn't really doing anything :/ But everything else was great!

I ordered the steak tip sandwich with French fries, and it was absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked, flavorful, and very satisfying. My brother went with a salad and couldn't stop talking about how outstanding it was, which says a lot. Great food, welcoming atmosphere, and thoughtful service. If you're in Asbury Park, I highly recommend stopping by Kim Marie's. We'll definitely be back.

Okay so the ambiance is really chill. I really love what they've done with the outside. It gives…read moremore of a "sit here and relax" vibe to it. They even have seating that is cushioned and more of a lounge feel. Love that. Only downside is the music they were playing was sad lol personal taste, I know. We went on a Friday for a late lunch. Just rather not listen to sad music while I'm drinking. The service was great. Our waiter was so nice and ON IT! She didn't miss a beat. Even to be seated, we walked up from the beach, with our beach stuff. They allowed us to bring our beach bag, beach chair and cooler to the table. We were seated outside and it wasn't packed but it was busy. Okay so now the food! Food was okay. The wings were the best thing we had. The calamari was good and light. The sauce it came with was good. The fried shrimp and calamari came with the same sauce. Wouldn't get both of them together again. The fries with cheese sauce were okay. I think they put beer in the sauce. I tried to look on the menu to see if it said, but it didn't. Not that it was bad, it was just different. Biggest let down was the crab melt away I was so sad about that one. Think pita bread with a huge layer of crab dip. The center was still kind of cold. And it was just too much for that thin bread it was on. The filling on top just slid off every time I tried to pick it up. It wasn't a hit for me. I think that filling would be good on some bread, rather than a very thin pita. Didn't hate it, just wasn't impressed, don't think I would do it again. Maybe if I saw it came out on bread. Idk. The center was still cold also so I'm not sure. lol. The Pina colada came out cute and was tasty. Loved that. Last thing I want to mention, this is more of a "chill" spot now. The utensils are all plastic, plates all plastic, cups all plastic. Very chill vibe (not a complaint) I think I would go back to this place for wings and drinks. And to just hang out with friends and enjoy the view because the view is TO DIE FOR.

I ordered the 'Watermelon Crush', my friend ordered a Bucket of Pina Colada and my husband ordered a bourbon bucket drink. I do not remember the name though. The drinks were way too strong for my liking but my friend and my husband enjoyed theirs. We shared the 'Shrimp and Roasted Corn Queso' which was good. They definitely did not skimp on the cheese. Unfortunately, this appetizer also came out with the main meals. I really dislike when places do that. For our entrees, my husband ordered the 'Bang Bang Salmon' which he loved and thought it was delicious but not worth the $26 price tag. My friend ordered the 'Grilled Skirt Steak' which she seemed to enjoy although it was a small portion. I ordered the 'Grilled Shrimp and Pineapple Skewers' which I did like but the skewers were quite small and it was mostly white rice. Our bill came out to $164 which I really think is WAY too high for these meals or drinks. Our server was nice; but she was rarely there. The busser, however, she was on top of her game and super friendly! It might seem funny to mention the busser, but she was really great. I would not come back and honestly, I think there's other options that are better. If I did recommend it to someone, it would be for the drinks as they had buckets and seemed very popular and 2 out of 3 of my party enjoyed them.
