I also bring my girls here for haircuts and they love her. Emily isn't cut happy (which I appreciate) and her color skills are spot on. I'm sure you've already read the reviews about them not allowing a tip on a credit card but honestly, a lot of salons are like that. I just Venmo her a tip. Easy peasy. Always a good time here! My stylist was Ashley. Quick thing about me, I am very very very picky about how my haircut looks and feels because I have wavy frizzy hair that I cannot control. I came to America 5 years ago and my parents took me to a barber to cut my hair! Unbelievable, I know. But ever since I've been scared for my life and hadn't let my hair being cut by no ones scissors. Ashley has cut my hair twice now and it just makes me feel like another person when all that weight is cut off. On the last visit she fixed my balayage (it was stripy and you could notice it wasn't a natural look). Although it was a long process, I don't regret it. This is an honest review of my experience at R. Collective salon with stylist Tony. I came for a cut and balayage. I explained to Tony that I do NOT want bangs, and that I want the longest layer cut into my hair to still be mid-shoulder blade length. That's how I always get my hair cut at other places: long layers with some thinning out since my hair is very thick. I paid $300 for the cut and color, and an additional $60 for tips. I was shocked by the price initially, as that is a hefty amount, but for the right cut and color, I was alright with it. However, once I went home and took a closer look at my hair, I noticed that on the crown of my head, there were a lot of very short pieces. And after I showered, I noticed even more 3 inch pieces all around my head, as if I had a really bad bang job done. I'm talking about hundreds of short pieces, not a few. I was instantly shocked. Like I said before, my hair has always been long and I always get the same type of cut. So to end up with bangs, one year from my wedding, when I specifically stated that I did NOT want bangs....shocked and depressed would be an understatement. I spoke to Tony and initially, he wanted to make things right, so I went to the salon to meet him. The entire time he was looking at my hair he kept repeating "I don't know how this happened" and "well, I can't grow your hair faster, it doesn't work that way". This was even more infuriating, as I obviously know that hair doesn't grow overnight, hence why I told him I didn't want short hair! He went on to try a variety of explanations of why my hair had been cut so short at the top. - He said that it could be my hair tie that is too tight and caused breakage.... I told him that I only ever use the spirals with my hair to keep it protected. And this happened right after he cut my hair. - He said it could be from at-home heat products....I told him that I rarely use a straightener or blow dryer and that this happened ever since he had cut my hair. - And finally, I asked him, "well could this be because of an error when you thinned out my hair?" He said " oh yeah, that could be it...but that is a risk with the procedure, so you should have expected that" ANYONE who has gotten their hair thinned out knows that they never do it on the crown of the head. I have been getting my hair cut and thinned out the same way for years with different hair stylist and none of them have every ended up giving me accidental bangs. But he insisted that this was what I should have expected to happen. After 30 minutes of this back and forth, he gave me my money back on the haircut only, which only covered the amount I had tipped. So I had still paid $300 for him to make my hair worse. After going home and being depressed all over again with the state of my hair, I spoke to a hair stylist friend of mine from out of state and she mentioned that a Keratin treatment would help keep the fizziness down until the pieces grew back long enough to go in a pony tail. I contacted Tony twice to see if he could at least offer this service to help while my hair is growing out. I gave him the opportunity to at least partially fix his mistake. He did not respond to any of my messages. So I went to the salon with my fiancé to speak with him, again, to give him another opportunity to provide a treatment that will hide his mistake. He was very hostile and went on the offensive from the start, telling me that the hair was short because I had ask for thinning out, that I should have known what it entails. I have asked multiple stylists and they all mentioned how thinning out of the hair is never done on the crown of the head, and should never create false bangs. But unfortunately, Tony did not want to accept his mistake, and instead wanted to blame it all on me. The worst part of all of this is that he is the business owner. Sadly, I will not ever be seeing Tony again. My hair is in worse condition now, than is has ever been, and I wasted $300 to have it made worse. If the color were the issue, I would have gotten it fixed by someone else. But as Tony mentioned a million times "hair doesn't grow overnight" and I will have to live with this until it grows back. I hope this review helps anyone in the future to make an informed decision, so that they can avoid the mess that I have been submerged in. read more

I typically only get a cut (nothing fancy) but I've never been disappointed. In my experience, I've only been able to get a good haircut at Asian salons because they understand the texture, but this is an exception!! read more

I have been seeing Amanda for quite some time now. She always have colored my hair and it turns out great! Amanda and her team did my bridal hair for me and for my bridesmaids. They exceeded expectations! If you bring them a picture of what you like, they deliver and even make it better to cater to your style! She even helped direct me and my bridesmaids coordinating with makeup artist so that I was on time with schedule! I also had hair extensions done for the first time ever. Although it was an investment, she made it well worth it!! Amanda custom colored the extensions to my hair color ( I had baylage colored hair). Extensions looked so natural and great that I can see myself wearing these more often than just for the wedding. I highly recommend R collective if you need a hair stylist but I also definitely recommend them for bridal parties as well!!! They are amazing and you won't regret it! I had the privilege of having my hair cut yesterday at r. collective salon. My stylist was Emily Meier and she was absolutely delightful. Besides being a skilled stylist she was personable, professional and caring. She never seemed to be rushing me and really wanted me to be happy with my haircut. I received the best haircut I've had in years. The salon itself was clean and modern, and everyone was friendly and professional. Everyone I saw said hello and greeted me with a smile . They actually seeme If you're tired of the "quick cut " salons and want to get a professional haircut, give them a try I was fortunate enough to have Emily cut my hair again. I say fortunate because she is absolutely wonderful. Emily gave me a GREAT haircut and even shaped up my beard a little. This has a cool and fun vibe to it. It's always buzzing and bustling with staff of all ages, a couple of men work here too. Cheyenne has been my hair dresser for a couple of years. She is always warm and friendly but I at times don't recognize her since she is constantly changing up her hair and look often. She is chatty and easy to chat with and good at cutting my hair and quick. The thing that always rubs me the wrong way is that you can't use a credit card to tip and for me, who never has cash on me ever, that's always such an utter pain in the arse. I don't ever plan to run to the bank to have tip money before an appointment either. And I refuse to get charged for using the atm machine to get out cash. I didn't have cash the last time I was there and I had no money for tip and found out that I would have to use the ATM. Won't do that ridiculous task again, so sadly I am in search of another reasonable salon that will take CC for tips on top of the services. I think it's a great disservice to the well deserving staff here not to allow CC for tips for the many of us that aren't fond of toting cash. read more

She always listens, which is great as not all hairdressers do. And, she does a​ great job. I have thick but fine hair that always goes limp 10 minutes later. Amanda is the first to have picked up on that. When I said I was looking for something easy that didn't take so much time, she suggested an American Wave. It has changed my life! My hair is no longer limp and stringy. It's thick and wavy. AND most importantly, I no longer spend an hour every day to wash and curl my hair. I now literally wash every 3rd day, comb it and go. I recently moved from Chicago, and was on the hunt for a new stylist. Personally, I find it a little stressful looking for a new stylist. I have tricky asian hair and if you can relate, you know how important it is to find a stylist who knows the nuances of asian hair. As per the other reviewers, I can personally echo that R. Collective has great customer service with a friendly and attentive desk staff. I was randomly assigned to Sarah, and highly recommend her for men's cuts. She was very detailed oriented, and walked me through everything she was doing to make sure I was happy with the final results. I haven't gotten my hair cut in almost a year! I've bounced around from one hair stylist to the next and just haven't been able to find someone that I absolutely love and that have reasonable prices. I was so impressed with r.collective salon! It is beautifully decorated, and not cluttered with product advertisements. They offer you something to drink and for your first visit you fill out a small form of your detailed information. Then I met Trina, my hair stylist and she was so lovely. Such a nice girl and we chatted the whole time I was there. She explained exactly what she was going to do for my hair and how I can better take care of it. She explained some of the products she sells but I never felt pressured to buy anything. They sell a really cool curling wand that I may purchase at my next visit but I usually need to think about a product before I spend any money. Places I've gone to in the past for a hair cut end up charging me an arm and a leg for a wash, blow dry and style but this place didn't! I ended up spending only $45 for my hair cut and Trina even washed and styled my hair. It looked amazing! Now if only I could learn how to style it like she did! I have been going to Amanda since her days at AE in Royal Oak, but always just for cuts, I don't get my hair colored (to clarify, I colored it myself..yikes)! After dying my naturally light brown hair blue black in the fall, I decided it was time to go light again. As anyone who gets their hair colored knows, this is quite a process. Amanda and the folks at R Collective are the best, which now I know applies to coloring too, not just cuts. The color, a caramel brunette with honey highlights is perfect for the spring and she did it with minimal damage. Pulling that black off was quite the feat, but she did an excellent job! I love everyone there, they all work together and the atmosphere is wonderful because of that. I would not trust my hair to anyone else. And to Miss Emmy E. I say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion however, knowing what I know (and it appears every other person that has posted a review knows), if something like this did happen (IF), everyone in that entire salon would go above and beyond to fix whatever needed fixing...because that's how they roll. I was referred to a stylist name Holly. I needed a stylist who was very experienced in handling coloring & overall styles. She didn't live up to my expectations. I'm willing to try new products & styles. She said she had years of experience,but I didn't think that she did! I discussed everything with her,but she didn't even check my color every now & then to see it was the right color,when she removed it,thcolor was to dark!! She needs to know that gray hair grabs the color faster than other colors. She didn't have the products at her station to use,she had to leave her station to get the products. I asked for a spiked cut,she was lost!! I'm very disappointed!! My hair is very important, When I take a chance on an experience stylist I expect to be happier!! I had a great experience here! I asked Verona to make my hair very blonde. I hadn't had highlights in a couple months so it was grown out and I wanted a more ashy, grey color. She crushed it! I was offered coffee and wine which I loved since I'm on vacation for the holidays. It was so nice to drink wine and read while I waited for my highlights.
