I don't go to R Spa for the spa experience per se, so not getting into the locker room etc. which does indeed feel more like a gym. That said, I am a Club Sports member and enjoy the gym amenities. I go there to get deep tissue work and to address serious tightness and imbalance. I recently have started going to get deep tissue massages by Jared and have been blown away. It isn't often that I have had a massage where the therapist dug so deep that even one session did the trick. He is intuitive, respectful and really knowledgeable. One of the best massage therapists I've ever gone to, and I've had a lot of body work done. In addition to doing the work, he also explains what's going on in the body and gives you suggestions and ideas for stretches and exercises. He is starting a Stretch Lab as well, which I cannot wait to go to. Highly recommend Jared - just make sure to communicate clearly what you want him to focus on. Was extremely disappointed I did not get to experience the spa. I booked a package several weeks ahead of time for my mom and I to get a facial, body scrub and massage. I booked this as a couples type package where I had been told 2 people would be catering to us at the same time. The morning of our appointment I got a call (as I was already driving there from 45min away) that the massage therapist called in sick. I was told my mom and I could still get facials and scrubs so I agreed to not cancel. When I showed up, it was then explained to me that only one person was there to do the services and that I would have to wait around for 2 hours until they were done with my mom. I ended up paying for my mom and left, it was just truly heartbreaking that our girls day together had been ruined. She did enjoy it, so this review is not for the gal that has actually did the facial and shower, I'm just very frustrated with the lack of communication. I can also understand and sympathize any business having to cope with sick employees in the current climate. I just hope staff can better communicate with customers booking appointments in the future as my whole day had been wasted because of this. read more

I've been here a few times for massage's and manicures. One of my first times here I had scheduled a Valentine's Day couples massage. The staff was very sweet and had us get into comfy robes and they escorted us to a suite where we had a lovely massage and then treated us to champagne and fruit. The price was reasonable. I love that you get free valet parking if you have a service at the hotel. I recently got a shellac pedicure here for my wedding. I was walking barefoot down the aisle and wanted my toes to be perfect. I confirmed with the woman on the phone that they did shellac pedicures before I made my appointment. When i got to my appointment, the nail technician had NO idea that she was providing that service or that the salon even did that! great... she was unsure of herself the entire time, messed up the pedicure because she did not know what she was doing and complained about her daughter's they entire time i was there. they did not have very many colors to choose from and the ones that they had were odd color choices. I was completely disappointed which the experience; especially since it ended up peeling a few days later. NOT WORTH THE PRICE. staff was rude on the phone and when i was there. read more

This is as good as it gets! No matter where I have moved (Hawaii, LA, and now DC), I still make sure I get an appointment here when I am in the bay area. I have had massages, facials, and waxing. My consistant service is bikini and eyebrow WAXING with NICOLE. She has been my esthetician for about 4-5 years now. No one has ever shaped my eyebrows like she does! Nicole is professional, but also forms friendships with her clients... which keep us coming back! Love the R Spa. Its a local spot but once you walk in, you forget you're still in the bay area. Especially after receiving a treatment by Charlene. WOW! I usually get 60 minute massages, this time I wanted to try a 90 minute massage, boy is it going to be hard to go back to a 60 min. Charlene was very attentive to my needs, she noticed where most of my tension was and worked on it. Loved my massage. I'll definitely return and ask for Charlene. I've never had a bad experience at the R Spa. I enjoy all the amenities and really love the outside pool and cafe. Great place to go if you want a girls day out to relax, talk and chill. OK, I only had a manicure and pedi but was disappointed in the experience. First off, the people are very nice but the equipment that is available is meager at best. The room that I had my services in was large and seemed just thrown together. There was no pedi chair and my feet were placed in hot water for just a few minutes and then the water bowl was removed. The room was cold and the front desk wouldnt help get the heat up. That said, they did have throws to help keep me warm. I was a guest a the hotel and I must say I loved the hotel, the gym and most of the services but I wont go back to Spa. Upstairs is the weight room and the dropping of the weights was a jolting, unrelaxing experience. I paid $80, for what was suppose to be a higher-end service and I dont believe I received this. read more

I'm writing about my massage experience specifically. I am also a gym member and for the amenities, it can't be beat. Back to my massage experience today. I have several orthopedic issues from past sport injuries and was looking to start a monthly massage regimen in addition to regular trining. I signed up for the R Spa monthly membership (monthly hour massages for $89) and today was my first. Christina, my massage therapist was excellent. She had good knowledge of sports injuries and did a fantastic job getting the knots out and improving my flexibility. I look forward to my next session with her next month. I have been to RSpa many, many times, but today all of its short comings shined through. It started with a spa robe that looked dirty and soiled. The robes are old, heavy, and wore like the towels. In the summer they're unbearably warm. Sitting in the small waiting room, I notice the decor is cheap and tacky. Across the hall a curtain is left open exposing a cluttered storage area. Once on the massage table, the noise and pounding from the gym above asserts, once again, its constant presence. The music in the massage room wasn't particularly relaxing. Returning to the locker room after the massage the music is down right jarring, loud, nerve wracking. There is no place to relax and recline after your treatment. Checking out, the rates have increased now to $165.00 for an 80 minute massage, $200.00 by the time you leave a tip. The fee is vastly unequal to the experience. Time to call in some serious, professional, spa management and customer experience consulting. The Bay Club has dropped the ball. Very disappointing. read more

The Renaissance is a lovely hotel with impressive amenities. I took advantage of the R Spa retreat package with the facial, massage, and body scrub. It was all amazing. Every part was relaxing and I felt very pampered. The spa is inside the hotel and outside of the spa people are exercising and hanging in the hotel. I didn't mind it but I could see how it could take away from the experience. You are able to use other amenities while at the spa so I used the sauna in between my treatments. You receive a robe and sandals when you enter so you don't have to worry about your clothes as you can lock them in a locker. This was my first spa day experience, but I loved it and would say it's the best massage i received. The facial and body scrub were incredibly relaxing and felt wonderful. No complaints about the services. The environment could feel more spa-like, but I personally enjoyed it nonetheless! read more

I already have a regime and spa, but I received a gift card and was excited to try something new. I booked the anti aging facial and added an eye mask. Amazing! Diane was great, very knowledgeable. I loved my skin after. I work a lot and had the flu about a week before, so I was pretty exhausted by the time it came to my appointment. It was just what I needed. I felt great when I left. I've seen some of the reviews about front desk, and I have to agree it's not the best customer service ever. But honestly, who cares if your treatment is amazing. That's what you're there and paying for. Like I said I already have a regime, but I'll definitely come back to Diane when I have the time. read more

Ok. So I hate to write a bad review because my actual massage therapist did a good job, but I was not happy with the rest of the experience. And it wasn't just a fluke, it's the 2nd time it happened. I am 37 weeks pregnant and my wonderful husband booked me a prenatal massage as he did a a year and a half ago when I was 37 weeks pregnant with my first. I had the same experience both times. I have no complaints about the massage. The complaints I have are he following... -I was not offered slippers. I had to walk around barefoot. Which really bothered me, as I have to use the restroom often this late in pregnancy. -The room that my massage was in, was some sort of storage room. It has floor to ceiling tile that made for a freezing massage. -The room is also very noisy. Every footstep of the therapist was very loud and distracting. -There is also an ikea clock hung in there that was ticking very loudly. I know these things seem small, but when you're paying an arm and a leg for a massage during the most uncomfortable time of your life, you expect the best. This was far from it. I would recommend them giving prenatal massages in one of the regular massage rooms. Take the extra 5 minutes to switch tables and not give an expensive massage in a storage room. I won't be going back. I had a much better experience at the Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa. AND it costs less. read more

This is more Spa light despite the pretentious front desk staff. There is no quiet room or spa like extra touches. I have been here a few times and find the technicians who perform the massages and facials to be well trained and impressive. It is a convenient location. What is really lacking, is quiet during the service itself. There was drilling and easily heard vacuum noises during the last 3 visits. I have over looked it because I get a discount but the cold and detached front desk staff makes it hard to keep over looking the things it lacks. I won't spend my money here any more. read more

I have had the classic massage with Odessa and Reenie, both of which are great! They are attentive, sweet, and both apply good pressure. As I was getting my massages, I couldn't wait to review them.. that says a lot! My sister had Joseph, who she highly recommends. Everyone there is really nice and friendly. I've only had massage at R Spa at Renaissance club sport over the years, but have had many of them. My two favorite massage therapists are Donna and Jolie. Donna is really good with deep tissue and working out knots deep in the muscle. As an athlete I find her massages to be real easing of muscle tension. She's amazing. Jolie is really good also. I find that when I have a massage from her I get a really good detox afterwards. It's probably her energy. I can recommend both of them highly. read more

I've been going here for treatments for 7 years and even though I'm no longer a member at the gym I still go to their spa every 4 weeks for waxing with the occasional splurge for a massages or facial. It's worth it because the experience is that good! The staff are friendly and personable. If I could give this spa zero stars I would. I previously have been going to this spa for years for a spray tan and they were okay. My boyfriend said I looked a little orange but overall they did a decent job. Last week my best friend was getting a spray tan before her bachelorette party and was so excited about getting her spray tan. When she arrived at R Spa, the lady seemed flustered because she was a couple minutes late to her spray tan and rushed the "bride to be. My friend paid the receptionist and was handed by the lady a glass of water as she was walking out to leave. My friend pulled the door instead of pushing it to leave the spa and the water spilled all over the bride and she felt awful because her spray tan got messed up(my friend also told me the receptionist pulled the door the same way my friend did when she was leaving the building). She asked the receptionist if she could get it fixed and the lady told her she couldn't fix it but that she can shower and spray it again on her. And thats what happened and the receptionist charged her for a SECOND SPRAY TAN. My sweet friend tipped $10 to both spray tans and their spray tans are $40 each so she spent a total of $100 on her orange spray tan that day. She called me crying and I was really upset and called the spa. They said someone would call me back and nobody did. Fast forward to a week later I called again and Susan who runs the spa said for my friend to call her and she would talk to her about it. Susan told her she would offer her 20% OFF HER NEXT SPRAY TAN. Are you kidding me? She wasn't planning on going there next time anyways! Awful customer service and decent tan. Tell R Spa to put a sign on their door to pull and not push while exciting. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I have been receiving monthly massage from Diane for almost 10 years! I've had massage all over the world and I prefer to come back to her. She's great at modifying according to my needs at the time. She accommodates my request for light massage. The rest of the staff is friendly and helpful. The facilities feel clean. The peaceful waiting room helps get the 'calm' started. I am submitting this review based on the unprofessional and disrespectful treatment that I received after the management representative - Susan after returning to the facility in March after sustaining a serious knee injury last fall. I purchased a one year monthly massage membership that I wasn't able to use In November 2016, December 2016, January 2017 and February 2017. I requested that my membership be extended for four months since I wasn't able to have the massages while in a full leg brace. This matter remains unresolved even though the facility charged my credit card for the four month that I received no services. Be mindful of this business practice if you are considering purchasing an annual massage membership. read more

FERNANDA HECKMAN is by far the best esthetician I have ever had a facial from. I am incredibly particular about my skin. (arent we all?) I wear sun screen religiously and work diligently to keep my skin from maturing too fast. I have been to a gazillian different places over the years and after my experience with her.. I will follow her where ever she goes! The spa is beautiful.. it really is a local oasis if you cant go away for the entire weekend. But Fernanda is amazing. You can tell she is passionate about what she does. She only spoke when necessary to allow you to relax, she took her time and was thorough. I left there glowing.. not a red mark on my face and she made sure to extract every spec of what ever she could find :) The texture of my skin was improved, I was glowing and it stayed this way for weeks. Unheard of!! and did I mention her waxing ability is impeccable? I almost didnt write this review because I wanted to be selfish and keep her for myself. But that wouldnt be fair would it? A DISSAPOINTING VISIT. First off, my therap[ist was Gloria, who really didn't seem to want to be there. I got the 40 min Foot Renewal ($50) which actually only lasted 33 min! But out of that, she left me for 15 minutes to soak my feet in warm water, so you basically get a 10 minute treatment for $50 (the 10 minute did include some exfoliation and massage) but seriously a dissapointment! (the other 8 min she did a paraffin treatment, where again she puts this liquid parafin in plastic bags on your feet, and leaves you for 8 min). A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. read more

R Spa is my haven! I've belonged to Club Sport for 6 years now and the childcare and spa services are great. Nicole Tscherneff is the only one that I trust for facials & waxing.
