Well worth the short detour from I-10, I've been eating there for years. Pretty much any trip to Acadiana without stopping at Rabideaux's is a bit of a waste as far as I'm concerned. Great plate lunches, boudin, pistolettes, cracklin, all the stuff you come to Louisiana for. I can't personally speak to breakfast, but they're usually slammed at lunch time, which ought to tell you something about the food. They do a good business in fresh meat and smoked sausage, too. No food pics with this review, the food always gets snarfed before I remember. No servers, counter service only and there's often a line, just deal with it, you'll be glad you did. Tables and chairs inside, a few picnic tables outside. I've been known to eat off the hood of the car when necessary. There's generally a cat or two skulking around the parking lot waiting for scraps; they know what's good so leave 'em a bite or two in consideration for their recommendation. read more

A must stop if you're traveling along I-10 or heading to Coushatta from Texas. It's an easy detour from the Kinder turn-off. Instead of turning left, turn right to had toward 90 and go down about a mile. Regarding Ben T's review, this is NOT a restaurant, nor do they try to be. It is basically a deli, meat market, processor and food store. They supply cajun foods to various retailers and casino's throughout Louisiana. And you wondered why the gumbo was so good at Coushatta? The deli inside has mostly fried foods and a few tables to eat at. The sausage is pretty good, but not as good as many of the smoked sausage I've had in Texas. I prefer to use it in Cajun recipes, than eat it alone. Fried gizzards are pretty good when not overcooked. Boudain balls are heavy but delicious. Crawfish pistolettes are pretty good but I have to be in the mood for them. Their cracklings are okay, but I prefer other places in Louisiana like Best Stop or Don's. read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. If you want great cajun food to take home and make yourself, this is the place. Undoubtedly, you need to get some of the venison sausage. You can't get their venison sausage anywhere else, but you can get their regular pork in some stores. If you're able to get in there to eat, they make all the cajun favorites right there in the store for you to eat. The smoked boudin is amazing. Their boudin is ok. They use MSG which is a big strike against them. Also the boudin just wasn't as flavorful as I hoped. Boudin King in Jennings is a bit better by my taste, although they may use MSG too. read more

I will be fair the only thing I had here was the boudin. If its mainly boudin your looking for I would go elsewhere. This is what I call lazily made boudin with big chunks of meat and large pieces of green onion, literally they were pieces of green onion that was about an inch. I will say it was priced right... Perfect stop in from Houston to New Orleans. Excellent boudin balls and catfish po- boys! Get two pistolettes- a shrimp and a crawfish. Laid back and very casual. Order at the counter, get excited when your number is called, Seat yourself at red checker tablecloth and enjoy. Really nice gals behind the counter. On the way back, we plan to stop in and load up on meats and sausages to take home. Worth the stop. read more

The shrimp boudin was amazing! We will definitely be going back for that! The regular boudin was pretty good as well. They were out of boudin balls to take home and cook when we went, so that was disappointing. However, the lady at the counter said the next time we are that way, to give them a call ahead of time and they will make sure to have some. We did try the crawfish meat pie, cooked boudin balls, and a few other things while we were there. It all was very flavorful. CRAP FOOD I went there between traditional meal times (before dinner but after lunch)and selected from a display stand of things they had pre-made. I chose the chicken livers as the had no Boudin for sale just frozen. The chicken livers were so overcooked my wife and I threw them out the car window. To serve food that looked as bad as this food did shows NO PRIDE in the product they sell. I would have been better off with an MRE. AVOID this poor excuse for a restaurant. read more

When we visit Lousiana we eat all the boudain we can. Our first stop for boudain this year was Rabideaux's. We had just eaten lunch at another nearby resturant, and wish we would have waited. We paid almost $50 to eat lunch, and could have spent less than $10 here. We picked up one boudin link, and a boudin ball. Boudin balls were nice and big. Crispy on the outside, loaded with meaty boudin on the inside. Had a bit of a kick to it. The boudin link was boiled, and although I prefer a nice crisp casing, overall it was still great. The boudin was loaded with meat, and did not have an over powering liver flavor. The stop was nice and fast, got in and out in under 5mins. We will definitely be stopping on our way back through to take some home. read more

Omg, this place is the reason I had a difficult time leaving Houston. I'm originally from Alabama and would drive through LA (and pass Iowa). Their sausage and smoked meats (love the Tasso) have such a smokiness that I've never encountered in any store bought sausage or restaurant smoked meats. The store doesn't look like much, but it's usually crowded. People come from all over (with coolers in tow) to stock up on their delicious delicacies. Seriously, go to IOWA...stop by Rabideaux's, have some fried corn on the cob, Pork chops, sausage to eat while you're there and make sure to bring your largest cooler to stock up on all the meats...you will not regret it. Rabideaux has the best spicey Boudain Balls in the area. I also like the pistolettes and the meat pies but to my surprise they make a plain old cheese burger that is delicious. here today. first time. had the boudin balls and shrimp po boy. staff was nice and the place looked clean. good flow of customers at lunch time. boudin balls may not be what I fancy, but they were soft and mushy, not much flavor, cajun or otherwise. about 75 cent apiece when you buy 3. okay value i guess. shrimp po boy was a huge disappointment. the bun was like a glorified hot dog bun, no character. 6 or 7 little.. little shrimp. a soft and a little bit soggy sandwich. not a good value and I would never get a sandwich on such poor excuse for bread as that, again. many people eating the fried foods. might be better, but I wouldn't go again. read more

I have lived in Iowa for over ten years. Rabideaux's USED TO BE my favorite place to eat. Although, in the past several visits things have gone DOWN HILL. I kept hoping things would improve but they have not. HORRIBLE service, the employees are RUDE, and act like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you. In the evening they do not even bother to answer the phone. The girl who works the counter in the evening rolled her eyes at me when I mentioned how they did not answer the phone. She told me that they do not answer the phone when they are busy, but there was no-one in there. They also will start vacuuming by your table in the evening 30 minutes before they close!!! The food quality has GONE DOWN,shrimp/crawfish pistolettes at 1:00 in the after noon were cold and barely stuffed. Portion sizes have gone down and fried shrimp/ catfish are served cold and dry.. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!! IF YOU WANT GOOD HOT FOOD AND GOOD SERVICE DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more
