Hands-down the worst haircut of my life. I asked for a simple trim with some fresh color and they gave me a blunt bowl cut that totally ruined the shape of my hair. Now my hair feels dry and damaged. I just want to cry and shave it all off. Plus it legitimately smells like feces in there, the staff is unbelievably rude, prices were ridiculous, and it was overall a really nasty place. Just called in last week and again today to schedule an aplt. and whomever answers their main 415 phone number acts like she doesn't like her job. She doesn't answer with a greeting and also just hangs up without saying bye. She doesn't say her name either. Not a good 1st impression for the salon even if they are all independent contractors. I can't say enough good things about the Brazilian Keratin treatment (or Brazilian Blowout) at Untangled Salon. It took me about a year to get up the nerve to actually try it. I was nervous because I have never before dyed my hair or done any sort of permanent or semi-permanent treatment. Now that I have tried the Brazilian blowout, I LOVE IT! It has changed my life. Before I got a Brazilian blowout, I seriously felt held hostage by humidity and fog (both would cause an instant frizz halo on my naturally wavy hair no matter how long I spent blow drying and flat ironing). I have also shaved a good half hour off my morning routine. It used to take me upwards of 40 minutes to blow dry and flat iron my hair. Now it takes 10 minutes or less to blow dry and no flat iron needed! Here is what you can expect: First few weeks: hair dries completely straight, shiny, frizz free right out of the shower. You don't even need to blow dry it, though I have found it looks best if you brush it out and blow dry the roots for at least a minute. Next few weeks: hair still really straight and completely frizz free. This is when your hair starts to regain a little natural body (partly because your roots are growing out and partly because the treatment is not meant to be permanent). After two months: hair started to have big (still non-frizzy) waves when I let it air dry. This happened about two months after the first treatment. It took more than two months after the second treatment. After 4 months: hair 70% back to normal, still significantly less frizzy. I could blow dry it straight in 10-15 min and/or use a large barrel curling iron to create big waves in just a few minutes. I had consultations at two other salons before I made my ultimate decision. I chose Untangled Salon because Helen was really upfront about the process and took the time to answer my many questions. She is the best! The entire process takes about an hour and she uses the formaldehyde free formula. Also know that you will need to start using a sulfate-free shampoo, which you can buy at the salon or a drug store. read more

I just got the Brazilian Blowout and love it! Helen was so patient with me w/ all of my questions. She took the time pre-scheduled appt to learn about my expectations and answered any questions that I had. Just cause that is the type of person I am research, research, research. So having learned about the process, etc. I took the plunge yesterday and Helen was amazing. She paid special attention to my curly, textured hair (I think I'm a 3b-3c) so the results would be to my liking. I am so pleased with how my hair looks and feels. It has never been shinier and frizz-free before this treatment. The Brazilian Blowout is a curly/kinky girl's answer to her dream. She's a down to earth, professional hair stylist who is Yosh trained. (I have been a Yosh devotee for 35 years, as haircuts by these stylists just don't get any better). If you, like me, have that olive skin and the textured, curly hair that tends to go with it, this treatment works wonders. The result was soft, smooth and shiny hair that was a relaxed version of my own hair - it withstood rain in San Francisco and the humidity of Dubai and Beirut. Helen had the forethought to learn how to do this hair treatment long before salons in San Francisco were doing it, and her experience shows. Helen is the best! I have really curly, frizzy, unruly hair that most hair dressers get scared away by. Helen has done an amazing job on my hair with the Brazilian blowout. Love it, love it, love it! I have been coming here for a few years and Helen is absolutely amazing! I trust her 100% to do what is good for my hair. After getting bleach highlights for years from another place I got to a point where my hair looked like a multi colored mop. Helen changed all that and my hair actually looks healthy and good for a change... Also, unlike most places I have gone to before, Helen is on time and expects the same from her clients. The girl who answered the phone this morning was a bit rude and unprofessional. I was already a little nervous about getting the Brazilian blowout and her phone demeanor ensured I will not be going to this salon. I may be missing out on great hair care but if the people who work there are as cold and unhelpful as the girl on the phone then I'd rather go somewhere else. A tip: when you answer the phone you should probably say "untangled salon" and when the caller is confused because they are unsure if they are calling a salon or not don't be rude about it. read more

Hello, I felt compelled to write this review. Recently a good friend of mine visited this salon and had her hair done by Helen Raiter, salon owner. The results were nothing special and given the money my friend paid for a hair cut and color, I'd say it was a total rip-off!!! Helen recommended that she strip her existing hair color, something that was competely unnecessary in this instance, and had also neglected to mention this procedure is toxic and may damage her hair. My friend has pretty thin hair to begin with and that unnecessary procedure made her hair even thinner. Hair cut, color, and stripping of the existing color was certainly not worth the nearly $200 my friend paid! I decided to check out this salon for myself and had a brief chat with Helen on the phone. I must say she had a very unpleasant attitude about her. It felt as though she was doing the client a huge favor just by talking to them.
