After whale watching in the San Juan Islands, I googled this place in Anacortes to grab a bite. I really loved the area and how the sunset hits. The food was really good friendly staff. I had a nice Caesar wrap with fries. I like the idea of leaving a dollar in the ceiling to say that you were there.

This was our last meal in town during our first trip to Anacortes so I didn't know if this was a good idea. From the Yelp pictures it didn't look fancy and my SIL is a bit bougie and it definitely looked divey but fun, so I thought this place would either be hit or miss. Luckily, we all had a lot of fun here. The food was pretty good, but it's all the wall distractions that made it fun. They have markers so you can write whatever you want on a dollar (provided by you, of course) then you can pin it up to the ceiling. If you can't reach the ceiling, you can leave it with your waitress and they'll put it up for you. They also had a map of the United States where you could put a pin on your hometown and another map of the world so you can do the same. The waitress was nice and acommodating and got us our fried food quickly. I'm glad we gave this place a chance because eveyone in my party had a good time.

We really like the fries, they were thin and crispy. The fried chicken was a little soft and cold since we got it to go :(

The BEST Grilled cheese & tomato bisque I've ever had. Perfect amount of cheese & crunch without the excess butter/oil usually seen, paired with a creamy soup that is great on its own or paired with the grilled cheese. Great service as well, definitely will be returning.

    Best Manhattan in town!

We had excellent smash burgers and fries with garlic and Parmesan. Yum! So good! Highly recommend Rachael's.

Best burger in town, consistently. And their fries are always cooked well. Try the garlic fries if you are a true garlic lover.

I highly recommend the Brown Butter Breve too, it is delicious. There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.

This is a cute place, with ample seating, dining room style, as well as a walk up counter if you just want to grab and go. They have a bit of merch and a sunny environment. Service was cheerful and efficient.

The slight bit of crisp was peak, and the flavor of the sausage was also quite good. Additionally, the egg was soft and fluffy while the cheese inside the egg was noticeably stretchy. I believe this is the second Calico Cupboard I've been to. This chain seems to place plenty of effort into setting the right vibe with its building, decorations, everything. With that in mind, I think the La Conner one probably does this better with its almost fairy tale-esque location right on the river. Aside from that, uuuuhhh, this is awkward. I came here with my mom, and she left a one star review. I believe this is the first time this has happened as I review almost every restaurant I enter, but her account is essentially inactive, appearing only to cast shame on something unpleasant. If she saw this review, she would probably be angry. But I doubt she'll ever read this (hopefully). If she does...maybe it's worth it to write a high quality review. Lmao. Eating at a restaurant with her does give me a small opportunity as I think of myself as a low maintenance customer. Conversely, she has specific requests, and I get to observe how much each restaurant is willing to accommodate. Recently, she will always order a veggie egg white omelette. She will order this whether it's on your menu or not. It needs to be egg whites, and it needs to be an omelette, not a scramble. She will basically never want breakfast meats and will probably ask for something like shrimp. Oh, and swiss cheese or mixed cheeses. And if there's bread, it has to be English muffin. Absolutely no potato stuff. Calico Cupboard, to their credit, was able to meet all of these needs except that they don't have shrimp lol. Oh, and I guess the English muffin was an extra charge. She liked the broccoli. Anyways, service was slightly delayed, which left my coffee cup temporarily empty. I guess that's objectively a hit on service. Also, she didn't like the look and texture of her English muffin. I didn't try it so I can't judge that aspect, but I guess the cut did look rather "flat" to me for some reason. So these were the, uuuuhh, "impetus," for her to find something else, and she found it on a grape. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of this before the waitress took it to the kitchen, but it was some small....white.....thing. In my personal opinion, I could not tell what it was at all, and it could've been some small disfigured piece of egg or cheese, but she was adamant that it was a "bug." And basically demanded to know why the kitchen didn't clean their fruits. The waitress agreed (or at least pretended to agree) that it looked off and went to the kitchen with it. However, the back of the house was not so easily intimidated and maintained that they did clean their fruits and there was nothing wrong with it. As a result, even though the waitress apologized, we did not get a discount for the "bug," which obviously put her in a bad mood. I did at least take a picture of my own fruits, with the grapes towards the front. But naturally, I was unable to capture the same, errr, contaminant.
